Gasoline Engine problems of the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Six problems related to gasoline engine have been reported for the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Gasoline Engine problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2002

Vehicle accelerated from 70 mph while going down interstate. Cruise control was not on at the time. Applying brakes slowed vehicle down but engine continued to accelerate. Vehicle couldn't be stopped with full pressure applied to brakes and emergency brake all the way on. Had to turn key off and stop engine. Cranked engine back up and everything worked ok. This happened to an 18 year old female and was a very trying experience. Luckily she handled everything properly, but was quite shaken up by the incidence.

2 Gasoline Engine problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2001

While driving at highway speeds consumer noticed smoke coming from front end of vehicle, next a puff of smoke let out, and engine died. Consumer felt lucky there was no accident, and did not feel unsafe driving this vehicle. Please provide any further information.

3 Gasoline Engine problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2000

While stopping on a hill and trying to get into in a highway vehicle was without power. Gas gauge showed that tank still had fuel, but, in reality, did not had any fuel.

4 Gasoline Engine problem

Failure Date: 04/02/1999

Vehicle has experienced continued engine/electrical/transmission failure on several occasions, repairs on four occasions did not rectified failure. (attorney for consumer) mjs.

5 Gasoline Engine problem

Failure Date: 03/05/1998

Noisy engine.

6 Gasoline Engine problem

At various speeds vehicle will completely shutdown, almost causing an accident, vehicle will not restart.
