Nine problems related to cruise control have been reported for the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The vehicles cruise control motor failed.
Vehicle has been to dealer 5 times now for very rough idle, engine sag, idle undershoot, etc. Pcm has been reprogrammed with current software, etc. Dealer called Chrysler and was told no fix is available for this condition. Vehicle shakes and tries to die. Very unsafe to drive as may die when trying to pull out. Dealer basically says Chrysler knows of the problem but won't fix it properly.
When using cruise control and driving uphill, vehicle will downshift to first gear, causing driver to be thrown forward. Dealer stated this was a known problem, and Chrysler did not have a remedy.
Dealer examined and replaced the control unit twice. No help. Idle speed is too low (400mph)! I want Jeep to do something. It's a lemon!.
Intermittent engine idle problem. Occurs when engine is fully warmed up and in gear and at a full stop. Engine idle speed will fluctuate between 300 & 600 rpm . When this happens, engine roughness is very noticable and on occassion it will stall. On the first visit to the dealer, the computer was reprogrammed as per a TSB. This did not solve the problem. Second visit, Chrysler advised the dealer to replace throttle position sensor. Again the problem still exists. The dealer has notified Chrysler and is still waiting for an answer.
4 attempts have been made to fix this problem. When check engine light comes on, gas mileage drops severely and engine rides rough. Vehicle has been out of service 29 days and problem still persists.

Vehicle experiences backfires, jumps forward when stopping and rpm's fluctuate continually, replacement of transmission did not rectify problems.
Brakes: front end shakes when braking, rotors turned by dealer, but problem continues - dangerous. Differential/transfercase: loud clunking noise from rear, 'roaring' noise at speeds of 30-40mph and 65-75mph. Engine: stalls(dies out) when idling in gear and when putting gear from park to reverse, delear doesn't know how to fix. Vehicle lunges forward when coming to a stop, almost hit vehicle in front - dangerous. Idles roughly, rpms go up and down at stops, stalls. Steering: pulls to right, dealer says alignment is fine. Noise from steering column when turning. Lots of water condensed inside of vehicle at passengers feet when ac on, dealer says normal.
