48 problems related to seats have been reported for the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
At approximately 137,000 miles, the driver's seat frame snapped at two points, causing the seat to rock from side to side when entering/exiting and when making sharp turns. Since it is not attached to the frame at that point, it will not pass inspection. I was in motion on a busy city street on the way to school when the seat gave way and started moving.
The driver's side electric seat bracket has broken in two places making the seat wobble. Also, the passenger side brake caliper has an abs problem.

I have about 192,000 miles . . . Owned the car since 2001. . About 1 year ago I noticed the front seat was beginning to wiggle. . . In time until 10/14/15 when I took it to the Chrysler deatership (franich) in watsonville, CA. 95076 where I was advised I had a broken frame on the driver's side front seat. Their only solution was to try and sell me a whole new seat assembly. . . At the cost of $750 which would have represented about 20% of the present value (my car is in super condition). . . I asked if there was another place I could go. . . . The serviceman put me on hold as he spoke to the manager. . Came back on and . Said no. . . And actually sent me on my way in that unsafe condition. . . Never once did they tell me that there have been simiiar complaints with the same problem and that Chrysler was refusing the NHTSA suggestion for recalls for this unsafe condition. . . Had they at least told me. . . I would have begun searching the web for solutions. . . . Luckily, I had a relative fix and weld the problem for me. . . . However, I do not want any one else to suffer with this problem. . . . As a loyal Jeep owner I am ashamed of Chrysler to not provide a fix for us all. . . . I paid the cost to fix. . . And their reputation should be sullied by their refusal to recall or at the very least have a fix in place . . . . I love my Jeep. . . I am 73 years old. . . Could I have died due to this safety issue if hit by another auto . . . Has anyone else suffered?.
I was driving along, and made a left turn when I heard a loud pop and felt my driver's seat become loose. It wobbles around and feels as though it would go flying away if I were to be struck by another vehicle at any time. It makes the car very hard to drive and feels very unsafe. I took it to the dealership as soon as I could get it there and was told the part to fix it had been discontinued. I was advised to go and try to find a seat at a pull apart place and take it all to an upholsterer to be fixed. I explained that the internet warned against doing that as the used part is likely to break and that a fix was available at Jeep seat bracket dot com. I asked the dealership to order and install this part, as I knew that Chrysler knew about the problem and had been asked by NHTSA for a recall and has to date refused to do so. I was asked to leave the dealership.

Driving home following and as I was slowing for a curve in a residential area near home the seat gave way. I checked as best I could and noticed some rust areas on the carpet, bolts, holding the seat frame & the frame itself (there was no interior water leaks in the vehicle). The seat has continued to give & break. I checked to see if a recall had been made or a safety bulletin been issued and found it had not, but the number of people that had made inquiries and complaints, many with much sadder consequences while driving at speed on interstates and superhighways, was sizable and quite honestly frightening. As I read these and saw that after these other persons suffering this same obviously manufacturing defect had gone to their dealerships with the dealers offering to repair it at the vehicle owners expense ($700-$1200) and for a technican to check the seat and bracket could cost a minimum of $60-$90/hr. I personally do not have that kind of money readily available especially to pay for a manufacturer's error that they have been aware of for more than a decade! my solution has been to limit my driving to going back and forth to work m-f (running basic errands during these drives) with my staying home on weekends, and only making trips to visit family that live within 45 miles every two to three months. Last year, I drove this, my only vehicle at my home, around 3,300 miles. The quality of my life, I feel, has suffered as I have become restricted in the ability to safely travel! I feel it a travesty that the Chrysler motor company has known about and has failed to care enough about the safety of their vehicles to do the right and proper thing, recall and replace these materials. I guess if it doesn't explode it doesn't matter! please don't get me wrong, I do love my Jeep, but not corporate negligence!.

We have owned our 1999 Grand Cherokee since 1999 - its been a great car but every single issue listed on this website has befallen us. Currently @ 149k miles we have no heat on the driver side due to blend door assembly, the airbag light goes off all the time and there is no heat in the drivers side seat. I am shocked that so many people have the exact same issues and that to me says there is truly something wrong. We also took part in a class action suit that covered some of the expenses we had in continually replacing the brakes - especially the rotors which warp with out notice and can do that if you just step on the brakes to hard! even if you have just had them replaced. Cheap parts? I am a die hard Jeep owner but after reading all of these postings I am wondering if my alliance should be elsewhere?.
I own a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee I have had the driver seat welded 3 to 4 times since 2005. Now the seat and brackets are so bad drivers seat snapped near the top and rear the bracket. I thank the powers that I wasn't driving in traffic when it happened. . . . . I think Jeep and the Chrysler corp should replace my and all of these brackets in all Jeeps before someone dies as a result of the incident.
The front left and rear right brackets on the drivers side seat have shear completely in half.
Driver side seat frame snapped in front right corners. This is a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have not been able to find a replacement frame. It is a safety issue to have the sea snapped under normal use. . . I have read there are multiple complaints of this regard. . . Please let me know if ever there is a recall.
The contact owns a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. The contact stated that the driver seat rear bracket was broken. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who offered no assistance. The contact called the manufacturer who also offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 156,000.
While parked, I leaned back in my seat and the plate that connects to the floor broke. If I were in an accident and the same had happened, a lot of good a seat belt would have done.
Driver's seat brackets broke - normal use. Looking into repairs now.
Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo drivers side seat completely broken off of frame. Started with one side breaking several months ago, leaving seat to lean to one side and unable to adjust anymore then just completely snapped off. Drove for couple days with something wedged in the back to keep propped up until it could be looked at. Was told it is not repairable. Would have to be a costly replacement.
Driver side seat frame snapped in two opposite corners. This is a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. After further investigation I have not been able to find a replacement frame. Please if you have a recall solution I would like to know about it. There are a ton of complaints online about this issue. Making an american car company that was bailedout by our wise government, look absolutely terrible. To americans buyers.
The front driver's seat of my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee suddenly became loose and wobbled during driving. While the seat track and floor-level frame appear to be intact, the seat itself has become detached from the frame. Driving the SUV now requires carefully maintaining balance, especially in turns.
Under normal use, the hollow steel tube supporting front of driver's seat sheered completely on the side closest to the driver's side door causing the chair to move 6" - 12" up and down and sideways during normal operation.
The drivers seat keeps braking causing you to loose a safe drivers control while driving this is the fifth time this happen in the last 2 years and not at the welded area different places.
1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo 4x4; driver side seat housing metal brackets broke. Very common issue with this model. And extremely dangerous safety issue.
1. Normal wear and tear lead to the failure of the driver seat anchoring. 2. The rear anchoring of the driver seat buckled under normal conditions while driving. The metal broke at two locations causing the seat to wobble severely making driving safely impossible. 3. According to Jeep, the entire seat must be replaced at my expense. Reinforcement welding could repair the problem and prevent future failure of the driver seat during normal operation.
1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, track on drivers side has broken. Poor design. Seat is now unsafe.
My 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited w/42,000 miles. Yes . Not a typo . 42,000, orignal owner & "scared to death" to drive this SUV. I have alot of the already problems, that have been reported. Had to pay many, w/my own cash. This SUV schould have came in 1 color "lemon yellow". It is an accident watng to happen. The recent problem is now I have no a/c-heat or defroster. Ths is due, to failure of the automatic temp control to work. I t started 1st by intermittently working, till now not working at all, this is just 1 more, to the list , of many other problems. I don't think that it is an coincidence that all my issue have happenned, almost exactly, in the order, of all the other complaints. I can't undestand how a company can get away w/this. This new problem can cost up to $2000, if it is, like previous reported problems, happens to be the "blend doors". As a handicapped driver I drive less than 4,000 miles a year. This is the only auto I drive, thus the many, many probs have yet to raise thier head. I have read almost all complaints(too many to read) this SUV schould be a "total recall, I have never heard more complaints & problems, in my life, for any automobile. This SUV schould be studied & reseached, on "how not to build an automobile. Just read the many complaints here & on the internet. We are not making this stuff up. I don't know how they stayed in business as long as they did. We, the taxpayers, bailed them out. Who is bailing out all the owners, of this "death-trap"? if that is not absurd enuff, many problems could have been repaired, by Jeep & still can. What is the purpose, of nhsta, if not to intervene? you have all the complaints. Hundreds of them. You have them posted, yet, we taxpayers/owners safety, has been at risk ever since this SUV was driven out of the showroom. How did you not make a recall on the rotor/brakes issue which was reported at 3,000 miles? I am so frustrated. Is braking problems not a safety issue? please, help us!.

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee with aprox. 77,000 miles. I noticed the driver seat was rocking from side to side, upon further inspection. I saw 2 broken parts in the base support of the seat. This can cause instability and end with a crash. This car is too new to have a problem like this.
The frame of the seat in my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo has broken, along with the carriage that the frame sits on--in 2 different spots. There was no crash, or trauma of any kind delivered to the seat. The failure of the seats carriage and frame cause me to pitch and yaw rather wildly when I make turns even at low speeds. I am worried that the added stressed placed on the remaining contact points betweent he carriage and the frame will cause them to break as well.
