Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problems of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Three problems related to tank filler pipe and cap have been reported for the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2006

Auto had 40000+ miles when I bought it from my brother. I had it only a few months when it stalled on the interstate. It would not start until I sat for a little while. I am capable of overcoming auto trouble so I didn't think much about this incident due to the fact that I have been a mechanic for many years now. Then it began to stall in heavy traffic and sometimes would start again and other times after waiting several minutes. I replaced the crank sensor, in-tank fuel pump and filter. It ran okay for a while but began to hard start and stall again about 2 mos. Ago. Then 2 days ago it stalled something like 25 times coming home from the hospital. Since then I have been on the internet reading the blogs about this problem and if everyone that has this issue would email you, your computers would shut down. It is unbelievable that the manufacturer is just replacing the expensive parts at random, taking the money and not fixing the problem. These people, myself included, are begging for a solution to a problem with a very nice automobile made in America by skilled top dollar union labor. It is getting close to scam epidemic. My car is sitting in my garage not fixed because there are about ten different things in the electrical and fuel system that can cause these symptoms. I am a disabled veteran and cannot afford to go down that eliminating process. My doctor doesn't do me that way and I won't allow the manufacturer to do it either.

2 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2002

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo, 6cyl. Mileage 78000. During refueling, fuel would not enter gas tank. After having one dealer look and state it needed gas filler tube which would have to be ordered. I manage to get gas in car and get home from 200 miles away. The next time I drove vehicle I notice gas leaking under the vehicle. Took to local dlr, they had to replace fuel line to gas tank and filler tube. This was a $470. 00 repair. This is the 2nd time I have had a problem with the fuel tank system on this Jeep. This is a vary serious situation due to fumes getting into the passenger area and the possibility of a fire from leaking fuel running underneath the car. Two other problems with this car is the transfer case leaks due to a bad o-ring(this is a 10 cent part that cost $500. 00 to replace because the transfer case has to be taken apart), front wheel bearing going bad @ 78000 miles, replacement cost $400. 00. Ts.

3 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem
