Loose control of steering due to the shaking! other issue is the cruise controller kicks on and the rpm spikes to red zonnnne the only way to disengage it is to turn vehicle off then back on!!!.
My Jeep Grand Cherokee limited four-wheel drive all the time cruise control automatically kicks on and off I have no control over what causes the Jeep to idle even after I hit the cancel button. Caising me no control over my speed even after I hit the brakes . . . Ive had to replace brakes calipers and rotors beacuse the cruise controller dont work right and the dealerahip says its not a recall????.
Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while at 65 mph the vehicles cruise control caused the vehicle to excelerate on it's own. While going up the hill on cruise control the vehicle picked up speed. The contact had to place extreme force on brake to stop the vehicle or place the vehicle in neutral to stop. No warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not towed. The dealer was notified today and the contact is waiting for a response. The manufacturer was not informed. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The mileage was 85,000. Jw.
While parallel parking, with my right foot on the brake pedal, I shifted the automatic transmission out of reverse. Immediately the engine rapidly revved up and lurched forward. I pressed more firmly on the brake, causing the car (a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee) and motor to pause, then the motor rapidly revved up again, overcoming braking. Horrified, and unable to stop the car, I watched as the car raced into the vehicle ahead of me. Immediately after the impact, the engine returned to normal idle. I then checked the car: cruise control was off, my hands were still gripping the steering wheel in order to provide additional leverage for my foot on the brake pedal, my right foot was still firmly in the middle of the brake pedal and not near the accelerator pedal, and the gear shift lever was in neutral. The vehicle ahead of me sustained damage to its bumper and tailgate. This is the 4th time this has happened with this vehicle, the first two of which were reported to you earlier. In all three earlier cases, I was able to barely avoid an accident, but not this time. As noted earlier, the Jeep mechanic was not able to find any causative problem.
The contact stated at a stop the vehicle accelerated on its own. The parking brake had to be applied to stop the vehicle. After this was done the vehicle was drivable. The cruise control was not in use when these incidents occurred. The dealership was unable to diagnose the cause of the problem. Updated 01/25/06.
While in cruise control at 60 mph and traveling uphill the automatic transmission suddenly down shifted from over drive into 2nd gear causing a violent lunge forward (approx 2000 rpm to 5000 rpm). This rpm change was so violent that lost of vehicle control happened momentarily.
While engaged in cruise control and driving up a steep grade. The vehicle jumped from 2000 rpms to 6000 rpms. The vehicle dropped two or three gears and would speed up uncontrollably. This caused problems with the steering and the vehicle has tried to drive off of the road in one case.
While driving at 65 mph on a hill cruise control failed. Vehicle was taken to the dealership, and mechanic indicated that there was a problem with the cruise control, but we did not know how to fix it.
