1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2021

On 10/21/21 myself and my child (rear passenger in booster safety seat) were in a solo vehicle accident that resulted in our vehicle hitting an embankment before rolling 3x landing on the wheels again in the right position on the same side of vehicle we originally had impact. We were less than 1 mile from our home, headed to school, there was no unsafe conditions, and I don't have any memory of the morning or accident due to severe injury and brain injury, but there's no reason or logical reason for me to be driving in the manner or at the speeds that I was. I passed a car in front of me on a very rural road right as we came upon the almost figure 8 curves on a road I drive everyday. The people I passed and many witnesses including my small child stated that I was gaining more speed as we came to the sharp curves, I crashed at approximately 65-70mph on a 30mph road, there were no brake marks or any sign of an attempt to slow down on my part, but I have too wonder because I am not sure anything that would have made me want to drive that recklessly, especially when I had my child in the vehicle. My child was asked what was happening before we wrecked and she said she heard a pop sound? and I said "OH [xxx]", that was the last thing that happened. We rolled 3x with not one airbag deploying, and the way that the Jeep is caved in, I am very much interested in this model being looked over for structural flaws, pictures will be provided. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2018

"takata recall" my driver's seat has been replace once, at my own expense, due the seat becoming extremely "wobbly" and being broken from the bease frame and frame under seat. I was on highway driving when the seat first became slightly unstable, had I unfornatunately been struck from the rear, I would've been violently thrown forward. I have researched this matter and found that there had been a recall for the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo wj, yet I found nothing on this site. It costs me $600, which is a lot for a disabled veteran. But my safety comes first. Please look into this.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2014

While driving the vehicle experienced a power loss except for the electrical system. I was unable to control my speed and lost power steering. After 5 seconds, while coasting to a stop, the vehicle resumed full power. Since the first occurance, it has become more frequent (up to twice a week). In addition, the vehicle will not start randomly and requires a few minutes wait time before a successful start.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2014

(relating to the driver-side seat only) my daughter and I was waiting at a traffic stop, (I was driving) when the light turn green I pressed on the accelerator and my entire seat including myself swung back. Because of the backward momentum, it causes me to abruptly press further on the accelerator. I was able to regain control of the vehicle and pull on the side to inspect the seat. I found that the two front brackets under the seat had broken off. Since I had adjustable power seat, I lower the seat to align the broken brackets to wedge under the bar causing the seat to stabilize or at least hold in a semi-solid position. I called Chrysler and they said they could not do anything about it since the vehicle was out of warranty. I argued that this is an unusual incident where I have never heard that the driver-side seat brackets would break off and possibly cause an accident. Especially for a Jeep, this vehicle is meant to be driven on and off road. Again, they said that there was nothing that they could do. This is a design flaw and should be address before someone gets seriously injured.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2010

There are two issues, one being the issue with the engine dying once the vehicle is put into a forward or reverse position from either reverse or drive position. Second is the issue of the vehicle surging forward just prior to stopping. The engine will rev up just prior to stopping and start a hard but load rumbling due to the brakes being held and the vehicle wanting to drive forward. I have an appointment with my repair shop to diagnose the issue, and it is very wearing of the possibility of this issue causing an accident.

While on the website of consumer affairs I noticed that there was an issue with automatic acceleration on the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo which I own and have experience this happening luckily I have always been in control of the situation, and frequent stalling. Either it jumps at a red light or it stalls, stalling is better, not being able to bring it to a shop due to financing, I try to stay on top of it, this already has caused some deaths I see on the site, when are they going to recall this vehicle due to this situation, or are they waiting to get a height body count? this happening once to anyone is too much! what is this country coming to?.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2007

I was driving home from a restaurant less than a mile away from my apartment and took a left turn onto the road where my apartment complex was located , and the car started up fine and was okay until about 3/4 of the way home. The 2004 Grand Cherokee overland after making the left turn accelerated uncontrollably to about 60-70 mph on a not-so-straight road. The brakes were applied, which did nothing, the emergency brake was applied for no response, finally before running into oncoming traffic I pulled the keys out of the ignition and pushed the ignition into neutral and then park. The car skidded to a halt right before I dead ended into oncoming 5 o'clock traffic. The car was off, so I restarted it and it, being in park took off forward at maximum rpms. 8 or 9 thousand rpms in park, and moving! talk about scary. It did this approximately 7 times while starting where it skidded to a stop after the first rampage. I waited until a green light, turned the key, it took off in park, and allowed me while driving to move the shifter to drive, hauled around the turn at full speed into the adjacent parking lot where it finally started being normal. Thankfully that parking lot is adjacent to my apt complex so I drove back without really any trouble aside from a few over revved. Left the car in the garage, and have turned it on twice with no issue. Its being towed in the morning for the second time that this type of problem has happened. I will now be selling this car.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2007

On 2 separate occasions, my Jeep lurched forward while parking. The 1st time I had to put 2 feet on the brake pedal to stop it, & the Jeep was still trying to drag itself forward. It happened again 2 months later. On March 28, 2007, I had a major incident that has left me terrified of ever driving this vehicle again. I pulled over to transfer some things to another vehicle. I put my Jeep in park & left it running. I got out of the Jeep (my driver's door was open) & as I got to the rear of the vehicle, it started to slowly roll backwards. I ran back & tried reach the brake, but my foot slipped off & I hit the gas pedal. The Jeep let out a roar - it was revving uncontrolably (normal in a vehicle that is in park) - then I felt a bang & the Jeep took off, in reverse, like a shot. My right foot got caught under the brake pedal as I scrambled frantically to get into the vehicle. My shoe came off, I was thrown to the ground by my open driver's door & run over by my own Jeep. The truck continued in reverse & slammed intoanother vehicle. I was taken by ambulance to hospital for x-rays, a CT scan, and a tetanus shot. I have a broken tailbone, staples closing a gash in my head, abrasions on my feet and hands, wrenched back & neck & severe dizzyness. I know I put the car in park. I heard the door locks release. When I hit the gas, the engine revved for several seconds before banging into reverse & taking off. If the car had actually been in reverse, it would have rolled as soon as I got out. Also, it would've just taken off in reverse when I hit the gas, not revved like a jet engine. The vehicle was in park when it was turned off after the accident. I've contacted daimler Chrysler. They said "thanks for the info, we'll be in touch. " I'm not holding my breath. I don't want to ever drive this Jeep again. I don't want anyone to ever drive this Jeep again. I'd like daimler chrisler to address these issues before others are hurt, & I would appreciate your help.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2007

Car was parked in garage. I put my foot on the brake, put the car into reverse and the car literally shot out of the garage straight into a tree. My driveway is curved - fortunately the tree stopped the car or I would have been in the street. Impact totaled the car, broke the gas tank which may cause environmental issues on my property. It probably took less than 2 seconds to travel out of the garage and then 54 feet up the driveway into the tree. I felt as if it were airborne.
