The right rear door handle has broken off making it impossible to open the door from the inside. The plastic that the handle mounts to has completely disintegrated and the right front door is starting to do the same thing. The vehicle is otherwise in excellent condition and has been impeccably maintained. After researching this issue I found that this appears to be a chronic problem. This is a serious safety concern as it is impossible to exit the vehicle from these doors.
When opening the passenger side door I noticed it was cracking. I just purchased the car used and found that all 4 door have the same issue though the back doors are far worse. This needs to be repaired ASAP. And Jeep will not cover the cost for repair as it's not on their recall list. It can result in injury if there is an emergency and the passengers cannot open the doors.
I drove into an advance auto parking and when I was driving the car seem to accelerated and I could not turn the wheel on the car I tried to push the brakes to stop the car but the braking system was not working. I could not turn the wheel and the braking system was not working and I started to panic. My car ran right into a metal pole and totaled my car. The police at the seen told me and my husband that the impact that the vehicle took, the airbags should of came out, but they did not. My car is totaled and the body of the car in the front is split in half.
The inside driver door handle assembly has cracked and broken thus rendering the door a safety hazard should the driver need to exit the vehicle quickly. I contacted Jeep and the only solution is to replace the entire interior door panel at a cost of $700 plus. This seems to be a pretty common defect with this model as well as the Jeep commanders.
I own a garage kept, 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 2wd with approximately 80,000 miles. 3 of the 4 interior door handles are severely cracking making it difficult to open the door. This is a safety concern because once they full break, the door in unable to be opened from the interior. Cost to repair each door is over $800. I contacted Jeep customer support on 6-22-15, but was told this was not a known issue and that there was no assistance they could provide in repairing the door. This is a well documented safety issue and needs to be address so that consumers can get assistance in dealing with the safety problem.
Driver and passenger interior door handle broke off in our hand will trying to open the door, these happend 4 months apart, this is a high priorty saftey issue have to roll down the window to open the door, god forbid we get in an accident and cant roll down the windows to get out, help.
All four door handle assembly system are gone 100% crumbled !! the handles are just hanging there. Any passengers in back seat can't get out of vehicle and according to my research this is a problem with thousands of these vehicles. . . The door handle casing assembly should be recalled immediately or do you just wait for someone to perish from not being able to open these doors??.
I was pulling into my driveway and the vehicle shut off and the brakes would not stop and my car ran into my pump house.
Driver's side door handle came apart. Replaced door handle. Now the two back seat door handles are coming apart. This is a safety hazard in that if there is an accident, there is no way for the passengers in the back to get out. Especially a problem if there are children sitting in the back. It never should be that all door handles on a car come apart.
The interior door handles are all broken because Jeep decided to go with the cheap route instead of using quality parts. The door handles crumble with very little effort and make it impossible to get out of the car from the inside. This is a very serious problem becuase if there were an accident or if the car were to become submerged, I would not be able to open my door from the inside and I would die. Ive seen many complaints from other Jeep owners online and it is rediculous that a factory defective part like this would not be recalled when it can cause a safety concern like this.
The two back inside door handles are cracked and broken. The rear passenger side door cannot be opened from the inside. The passenger side door handle is also cracked and its a matter of time before all doors cannot be opened from the inside.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that all four indoor handles inside of the vehicle had cracked and had loose handles. Due to the condition of the door handles the vehicle was not able to be opened from the inside the rear doors. The vehicle was taken to an dealer where was confirmed the door handles had malfunctioned and all four needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate vehicle failure mileage was 96,000. Kh.
In route to open gym for my 3yr old, after exiting exprsway in traffic approx 5-7mins, SUV shuts off. After it shut off it would nt start for approx 4 mins, it did not fully crank yet cranked, in a putting pattern, I was able to pull it out of traffic into an office park located at 3525 piedmont rd ne atl, GA 30308 in front of building 7 entering from piedmont rd. Once parked, my temp gauge was on hot panned hard right, the SUV would not start, I allowed it to cool down to halfway, during that time I made 4 attempts to start the SUV. Each time it would putter, or sound as if it was out of gas. Once SUV cooled to half I attempted to start and it started in the same putter fashion as before, yet appearing to catch as if it was start normal, all the while smoking out the back a slight pop could be heard coming from underneath the front of the vehicle, yet as it appeared to start I would give it gas with hopes that it would catch and then it just shut off and started smoking and there was a noticeably different odor that my 3 yr old and I smelled, from there I got out of the truck to see if the smoke was coming from the radiator, since the temp gauge was just on hot, I notice there was a fire burning in the lower back of the engine region, I immediately lowered the hood due to not having anything to prop it open with, I immediately got my 3 yr old son out of the vehicle to safety, I return to get his car seat and anything to hopefully salvage, I then return to the SUV to put out the fire out as best I could, I appeared to out on both sides and just smoking badly. Called a ride to take me and my 3yr old home. The following day I checked the SUV, the engine area, hood, front windshield had completely burned, there is no hood area, the hood is in the windshield, and everything else forward chard and melted, to the yellow pieces, I was able to take photos, and a video.
When backing into parking space the car took off like a rocket ship/full throttle (5. 7 hemi) like it had a mind of it's own. The result was property damage (unknown amount) and car damage over $7600. 00 not including car rental for 2 weeks. Chrysler sent inspector to body shop and their determination was they found nothing wrong and said the case is closed. A Jeep/Chrysler dealership replaced the throttle body January 31, 2014 under warranty. We know this was not driver error. It was the scariest 15 seconds of our lives and could have easily killed someone. Now we wonder when will it happen again? we would like to know, has there ever been an engine going to full throttle accident involving a 2005 Jeep/Chrysler product?.
3 out of the 4 interior door handles in my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited have severely cracked and are even missing parts of the panel. During my research online I have found that I am no where near the only one having this issue with these models and it appears to be a manufacturer defect.
There is a known issue on the Jeep Grand Cherokee 2005 model where the interior door handle housing cracks and the handle falls and becomes unusable. This happens on all doors of car but the first one to go in my case was the drivers side door. Once the handle falls you are unable to get out of the car using that door. In the event of an emergency this could be extremely hazardous. Jeep has not provided a fix except to replace the entire door. A recall is needed as almost everyone with this model of car is having the same issue.
Since we purchased this vehicle, the rear door handles and the passenger door handles have been cracked. Over the course of us owning the vehicle for the past year the rear door handles no longer open from the inside. This is a not only a problem but a safety issue because if there would be an accident or a fire or anything people in the back seats would be stuck in the vehicle. I have read many, many similar issues regarding this issue and how Jeep refuses to fix it unless you buy a whole new door panel which can be up to $600 a door. Chrysler should really recall these vehicles, it is a terrible design and something needs to be done.
Rear door of vehicle-trunk door-will sometimes not stay in place and has hit my fiance in the head a couple of times. Unsure of cause, or how to fix.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated the all four door handles fractured and separated from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was determined the handles needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 44,000. Ss.
The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that upon inspection, the driver's side door handle panel and the passenger's side rear door handle panel failed to operate normally. The contact also mentioned that the problem recurred intermittently and passengers could not exit the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the handles had to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the plastic interior doors handles were cracked. The front driver¿s side and both rear doors exhibited the failure and could not be engaged. The contact and passenger¿s would have to open the window and engage the rear door handles in order to exit the vehicle. In addition, there were shards of the door handle breaking off and falling into the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was advised that the door handles, the molding and the frame of the door would need replacing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70000.
Interior door handle assemblies are defective. Break and non functional under regular use and normal wear. Unable to safely exit vehicle.
Driver's side rear inside door handle broke, making it impossible to open door from the inside (major safety issue). Upon inspection, I found that the plastic surrounding the handles on both passenger-side doors are also cracked in the same spot, they will soon fail. Called dealership (farrish, in fairfax va), they said Jeep wouldn't do anything for me as out of warranty, and entire door panels would need to be replaced at $780 each (note: not the dealership's fault). Given the number of complaints on this and other websites, it is clear Jeep is aware of this issue and has decided to to address it, despite the obvious safety implications. Furthermore, they have refused to offer the handle as a separate part - replacing a door panel with another one with a similarly defective part is not economically feasible, and doesn't seem like a real solution as the new part is just as likely to fail as the old one. A recall should be implemented. The problem is so widespread that there is now an aftermarket solution (door handle replacement kits) designed specifically to address this problem, but you can't get them installed by the dealership.
All four (4) interior door handles have cracked. The result of this issue will impact the ability to exit the vehicle from inside. In the event of an emergency such as fire/accident, passengers will not be able to adequately exit the vehicle to escape from potential injury/threat.
Door handle cracked if there was fire and a frantic person used it, it would break. I feel this issue is a big safety hazard Jeep should replace with better material it already has to go in for a different recall.
On June 11, 2013, I pulled into a convenience store parking lot. I put my (2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee) in park & got out (the engine was still running). After a moment or so, my Jeep started rolling forward. It rolled between the fueling islands & it was headed towards the street. My Jeep hit a yellow pole & that stopped it from rolling into the street. (the yellow pole is a safety pole that protects the fire hydrant). I am 100% confident that I put my Jeep in park before I got out of it. I was shocked & scared when I saw it rolling down the lot. I filed an accident claim with my insurance company. The damage was around $6,000. My deductible was $500. Today, (August 13, 2013), I received a safety recall notice from Chrysler. The reason for the recall is the "final drive controller module software may unintentionally cause the transfer case to shift into the neutral position without input from the driver. This condition could allow the vehicle to roll away inadvertently while the vehicle is parked and cause a crash without warning. " I was (and I still am) 100% confident that I put my vehicle in park before I got out of it. What are my options at this point? my insurance company paid the claim & I paid my deductible. Now, my insurance rates will go up. Who should be responsible for this? how do I proceed?.
The trunk door for this car does not stay open and hits your head of can close on your hand if you are not careful. I have taken it to the dealer and they told me that the parts that hold the door open need to be changed (they look like hydraulic arms).
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the lighting on the instrumental panel, interior and exterior lighting failed. The failure occurred intermittently. In addition, the vehicle stalled. The contact also mentioned the interior passenger and both rear door handles fractured and detached. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the shifting cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The contact received NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer stated that the parts would not be available until approximately September 2015. The manufacturer was made aware of the delay. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000. Djr.
The interior door handles broke when being lightly used. The plastic cracked and the handle came off. It looks like this is a common issue. I email Chrysler about this and they blew it off as no big deal. This is a big deal and a safety issue!! if the handle breaks at a time when emergency evacuation from the vehicle is needed then that person will become trapped. This needs to be addressed.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the driver and passenger side front door handles were fractured, causing the door handles to separate from the door panel. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 34,558. Kmj.
All of the interior door handles molding are broken and because of that, you can not open the doors from the inside using the doors handles. You have to let down the windows to open both of the back and front passenger doors in order to get out of the car. The driver side is beginning to have the same trouble with opening. The dealer price for replacement cost is about $2500. 00 not including labor. I checked the internet for a solution only to discover that is a major problem with this year's model and many complaints have been filed with Chrysler. All said that Chrysler refused to help with the problem which is very costly for the average working person. To me it is a serious safety hazard when driving the car. What if the car catches fire, or rollover in a accident or goes in a body of water? I am hesitate to drive the vehicle because of that. All car owners expect to make repairs to their vehicle from daily use. However, it should not be the owner responsibility to pay for a repair when it is a know fact that many owners are having the same problem on the same model and year of the vehicle. Chrysler should be made to have recall to correct the problem.
The 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a very flawed interior door handle. The plastic molding of the interior door trim panel is composed of composite material that is susceptible cracking and breaking, at the focal point from which the door handle is located. All four of our interior door handles are broken, rendering our escape from the vehicle from an accident thru the use of our windows or windshields. . Read more...
Passenger opened up their door to exit the vehicle, and a hole cracked in the door panel next to the door handle. There was no abuse to the door, just a weak spot and defect in the manufacturing of the door panel. Jeep does not sell just the inside door handle piece, they make you replace the whole door panel which is quite expensive! there are numerous complaints of the same thing happening to other Jeep owners with vehicles of the same year. This is a safety issue if you cannot open a door in case of an accident or emergency!.
I was sitting at a red light and a florida state trooper was behind me, also stopped. When the light turned green, the cars in front of me started to move forward so I took my foot off of the brake to ease forward, awaiting to hit the gas when the trooper hit his gas, slamming into the back of my Jeep so hard that it lifted the back of my Jeep up and forced the front end to hit the vehicle in front of me at the bottom of his rear bumper - pushing me forward into the car in front of me approximately 7 feet. My Jeep stalled during the hit but the air bags did not deploy.
All four interior door handles are falling apart. One door handle is completely inoperable and as such the passenger is unable to open the door from the inside. This presents a huge safety issue. The driver's door handle is barely hanging on and I fear that soon I will not be able to open my door from the inside anymore. Chrysler has yet to issue a recall on this very defective product. Please pressure Chrysler to issue a recall to address this issue. The cost to replace the door panels for all four doors is over $2,000.
