36 Door problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

The interior door handles all break and crack. The handles are cheap plastic and fail after time. This is a safety hazard and Chrysler should be responsible for replacing these. They do not even have the parts on hand. I have contacted local dealerships and there is a waiting list for over 400+ people a month ago who knows how long now.

37 Door problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2011

All of the inside door handle pockets have fallen apart, the plastic used was bad and this should be a recall due to the safety issue. I could see if one went bad, but all four, this is a major problem. From what I have seen online, it seems all types of this vehicle and year seem to have the problem.

38 Door problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2011

The plastic paneling near my door handles have become brittle and have broken causing my passengers to become stuck on the inside of the vehicle and unable to operate the door handle properly on exiting the vehicle. This is a safety concern as the passenger may not be able to exit the vehicle easily in case of an accident.

39 Door problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

Interior door handle on driver side & passenger side plastic broke making the inside handle no longer usable.

40 Door problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2011

My interior driver door handle started cracking, then eventually broke and is useless. At first I thought it might have been something I did until the back passenger on the driver door did the same thing. I rarely have passengers in the back so I know its not just wear; instead, just crappy quality. When you're a die-hard Jeep person you don't want to admit (especially to yourself) they would've used poor quality. Unfortunately, after reading about everybody else that this has happened to, its obvious it is infact just poor quality.

41 Door problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2011

Door panels broken on back rear doors. Passenger front door is cracked. Unable to open doors due to the door handle is broken. Unsafe conditions. I have a child that sits in the back and this is a safety issue.

42 Door problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2011

I bought this Jeep brand new and it is garage kept. We are older and have no young kids riding in our car. It still looks like its brand new. My 1998 Jeep which I still own has 86,000 miles on it doors are perfect. My 2005 has three interior door handles that are cracked or completely broken. The back door has to be open from the outside. This is a safety matter. It's really unfortunate the amount of complaints but no recall. Will it take someone getting in a firey crash or running into a pond and not being able to get out of their car?.

43 Door problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2011

Rear door handle plastic around base began cracking & currently driver door hand is about to fall off. This is dangerous! this plastic surrounding the door handles began with small cracks then huge chunks fell out . This could cost a life of my grandchildren or even myself as driver. Nevermind anyone owning one. This safety hazard should be an immediate safety recall! I am astounded at the numbers of Jeep owners reporting same or similar incidents. I hope to hear it has been issued.

44 Door problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

The door handles on two doors have failed and broken off. This is a safety issue as door can only be opened from the outside and so far I have been quoted $1100 to replace and repair these handles as the entire inside door component must be replaced.

45 Door problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2011

The interior door handles on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee are all broken. Two of them are inoperable. The cheap material used by the manufacturer should be recalled as it cracks very easily. Once the inside handle is broken the door can not be opened from the inside. This is a safety concern in case of a fire or accident. The dealer says the whole door panel would have to be replaced and not just the handle, as they are attached together. The cost of each panel is approximately $700 each.

46 Door problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While parked the contact noticed the plastic that holds the door handle within the interior was deteriorating on both the front driver and passenger side doors. The contact stated the door could not be opened from inside the vehicle. The doors needed to be open from the outside in order to exit the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing but he was informed that the entire door panel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

47 Door problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2011

The plastic on the interior door handles has cracked around the door handle. The driver side front interior door handle and the driver side rear interior door handle are inoperable because they are no longer attached to the door.

48 Door problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2010

I own a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited hemi , it only had 26,000 miles on it. All four of the interior door panels have now broke where the door handle is attached. The drivers door panel has broke the worst and the door handle is not even attached to the panel anymore , which has become a safety concern. I have contacted my dealer and turned in a claim for customer complaints. After 3 or 4 weeks they contacted me to say it is out of warranty. That is precisely why I called them and explained my situation. Surely they can do something to alleviate this situation , all four door panels is going to cost around $3,000 dollars. I have read numerous reports about this problem on several different sites on the internet. The whole interior panel is connected to where the door handle is situated. Meaning you have to replace the whole door panel. Please help, this is definitely a big defect and a costly one to us the consumer. Any help to this matter or a fix to this situation would be hugely appreciated.

49 Door problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2010

On the drivers door and the right passenger door, the plastic of the panel supporting the interior door handle has broken leaving the handle unmounted and useless. Obviously, this is a safety hazard as it takes more time to egress the vehicle in an accident.

50 Door problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2010

All the door handles on this vehicle are cracked and broken and two of them no longer operate from the inside!.

51 Door problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2010

My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee door handles inside are breaking. They are plastic and seem to be cheaply made. They just start to crack and after a few months the whole handle is gone. Jeep needs to issue a recall or look into this issue before someone cant get out of there vehicle in a emergency.

52 Door problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2010

Rear passenger door handle broke from door panel causing child to not be able to open door from inside. The handle is now dangling there from wire. The other doors are showing signs of spider cracks, eventually leading to breakage.

53 Door problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2010

Rear passenger door handle broke from door panel causing child to not be able to open door from inside. The handle is not dangling there from wire. The other doors are showing signs of spider cracks, eventually leading to breakage.

54 Door problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2010

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee interior door handles are defective. Passenger side door handle has completely broken due to the cheap plastic and the driver side door handle has almost failed as well. I am afraid that in an emergency, I and my passengers might not be able to exit the vehicle. I've been reading online and this appears to be a very common issue, but Chrysler refuses to fix the doors. They want $700 plus to fix each door handle, but you can't even get one because they are on back order.

55 Door problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

Over the past year, both driver's side door panels on my 2005 Grand Cherokee (limited) have broken. Pieces around the opening handle have snapped off. The front driver side door is still usable, but the rear driver side door handle is just hanging there. These were not damaged through abuse, instead just routine use. I have not contacted my dealer as I have seen on line that most people have been unsuccessful in getting their warranties to back their claim and I don't have a lot of faith in my local dealership to go out of their way for a warranty claim. Hopefully the NHTSA can make daimler / Chrysler / Jeep / fiat, whoever step up to the plate and repair what has been pretty much proven to be a design flaw.

56 Door problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

I have two 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokees. All the inside door handles are cracking and some are completely destroyed to the point you can not open the door from the inside. Which in the event of an accident, no one would be able to exit the vehicle. It's obviously a problem with the plastic being too thin/brittle. It's all over the internet and there are even youtube videos.

57 Door problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2010

The interior door handles, all 4, broke off, at almost the same time. There is a common manufacturers material defect, as the door handle "pocket" is made out a brittle plastic, and they just shattered, or cracked simply by using the interior door handle to exit the vehicle. This is dangerous because in an emergency, one would not be able to exit the vehicle if the door handle breaks off in your hand.

58 Door problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2010

Two of the four interior door handles on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee are broken off and unable to open the door. This is a huge safety problem, if there were an accident it would be impossible for two of the passengers to be able to exit the vehicle. They were not broken from damaging actions, they simple have just broke from everyday use.

59 Door problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2010

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited edition interior door handles breaking off. 3 of the 4 door handles are unable to open the doors in case of an emergency. Due to the number of the same complaints about this safety issue, Jeep obviously has a manufacturing defect that needs a recall issued.

60 Door problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2010

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 42275 miles, the door panels on the rear doors are broken at the door handles and the doors cannot be opened from the inside. Additionally, both front door panels are cracked at the door handles and more than likely will break soon. Have inquired with local body shop and new door panels are approximately $450 each and are of the same design.

61 Door problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2010

Interior door handles on front passenger and rear driver side have both failed. The handle pivots on brittle plastic and it cracks.

62 Door problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2010

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee door panel plastic has become damaged around the door handles causing the handles to become inoperable. Both rear door handles have broken and become unusable requiring the person in the front to exit the car and open rear doors. Both panels in the front are cracked and will most likely fail in a short period of time rendering the car useless.

63 Door problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2010

The contact owns 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that all four interior door handles have cracked and the doors could not be opened from the inside. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who indicated that all panel assemblies needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

64 Door problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

The door handles are disintegration. The plastic is so brittle it snaps under very little pressure. This is happening on all four doors. I was told by the dealership its not a recall item but in my opinion being able to exit the vehicle under normal circumstances or in an emergency is critical. I use more force to break a piece of celery in half than I did to break off a piece of this plastic. Its only a matter of time before someone has an accident and dies because of simple handle failure.

65 Door problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 4 doors panel handle area are 2 broken and 2 cracked, now its became to an a safety issue once is very difficult to open the doors with the broken parts, I have to scroll down the drives and back driver windows to open the doors from outside the car. Occurs every time have to get out the car. I spoke to the dealership and said is out warranty, I spoke to Chrysler customer service rep and told me the same is out warranty and there is nothing they can do for my.

66 Door problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

The front and rear passenger side door handles have broken off the door panels. The person sitting in the back seat cannot open the door on that side. I've been told it will cost over $1000 to replace the panels. Based on all of the similar complaints I've heard and read about, I think there should be a recall on this problem.

67 Door problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited interior door handles. 3 of my 4 handles have broken off. Jeep charges $700. 00 to replace this. It is a joke, considering I have used the backseat door handles maybe 15 times since I have had it since 2007. I have never heard or seen door handles on any vehicle completely break off out of no where.

68 Door problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2010

2 of 4 interior door panel on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee are broken. I have not replaced the panels due to cost and working around the problem for now.

69 Door problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2010

Interior door handles broken due to cheap plastic. In case of an emergency is a safety risk. Dealer won't sell door handles but instead a entire panel for over 500 dollars and I have all 4 broken.

70 Door problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The interior door panels (all 4 doors) have cracked/crumbled around the door handles making it impossible to open the doors from the inside. This is a very dangerous safety hazard and should be addressed immediately. I have 75,000 miles on the vehicle, therefore it is not under standard warranty. The dealership said they could replace the entire panel on each door for about $500-$700 each.
