1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2025

Lights on the dashboard were blinking, there were no turning signals, the gas gauge was not working, and the check engine light was flashing. My safety was put at risk because I could not let people know when I was turning. I took it to the dealer, and they said there were too many codes, but none were active for them to fix the problem. So, I have to drive the Jeep, but this is dangerous. The warning keeps showing me that there is a problem with the ignition switch that was previously recalled. I want this taken care of, please.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2021

All the electrical stuff on my car flashes on and off or will just go completely blank for awhile while I'm driving this includes speedometer and all my lights and windshield wipers which is very much needed to drive safely it appears that the car shuts off but it continues to run and I've done research and it is my ignition switch I saw that there was a recall on it already and I called and they told me they wouldn't fix it I'm not sure how all of this works so I'm writing you guys for help. When it had first happened I was going about 60 mph down the highway in the rain in washington state I feel very unsafe in this vehicle now I can't take the chance of being on the freeway and this happening again in the rain the speedometer wasn't so scary but when your windshield wipers go out while it's raining and you're driving on the highway it's pretty scary and very unsafe for everyone. The video I have is another day it still continues to happen it was too risky to try and take videos of it the first time. So I guess I can't upload videos on here the picture it looks like I could be parked but I do have a video that I can send in to you guys if you provide me with an email.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2020

Pcm has been replacement multiple times by different repair shop. When computer fails it has failed a circuit with 02 sensors which kills engine power randomly while driving on highways. It has turned abs light on and service 4x4 randomly and won’t let the vehicle travel over 10mph. Very dangerous on roads. I’ve had three computers installed in the last year and a half and have given me 3 close calls almost causing accident. That’s 3 too many. I’m not the only one with the computer issues ask around to owners with these Jeeps. How many close called does someone need for Chrysler to not even repair but just to look into. Do people need to die in an accident for people to take this seriously. The issue is not from lack of maintenance either. If my abs module was failed I would no. My vehicle has a 115,000miles on it and when this dangerous intermittent issues occur there are no dtc codes stored. This is a total epic failure done by Chrysler. If they don’t find something soon about theses vehicles. I will be sure never to by another Jeep product. I don’t drive this vehicle unless I’m alone never-mind one of my niece or nephews with me in this death trap I’ve learned my lesson on this one Chrysler please help NHTSA!!.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2018

Ok I'm fully aware my vehicle is under 3 recalls well technically speaking 2 cause ones a recall on the recall waiting for that recall to be recalled. This whole process is insane my vehicle has turned off while driving has unparked itself shifted on its own had the lights flicker I have even been pulled over mutiple times for these problems twice when the Jeep decided it was gonna stop accelerating 3 times because the lights start flickering sometime just inside sometimes just the outside and most recently all the lights just stopped working vehicle still running made it about 10 feet after the lights went out and sure enough before I could even pull of tbe road blue lights I've had the vehicle less then 60 days it's stalled while sitting still it's stalled while driving it's shut off while idle and while driving. Its shifted on its own while driving and idle most recently I was checking the transmission fluid with the car in park in my driveway the support arms are dead so I used my handy dandy block o wood to hold it open well I pull the dipstick from the transmisson it was a little low so I turn around to grab my funnel and a bottle of fluid and I before I can even turn all the way around my parked car is rolling towards me and so I didnt get pinned between my Jeep and my shed I tired to step into the vehicle to prevent my legs from getting stuck well I'm pretty tall and my head hit he hood witch lifted it slightly and my block o wood fell out witch lead to the hood pushing my face into the running car luckily a busted flip and a slight burn to my neck was all that happened now I understand that a block o wood is not standard safety equipment and I understand that a car rolling in netural a couple feet will more then likely not pin anyone but all I knew was the parked car was moving I didn't know if it was gonna speed up or what I need more room.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2017

Electronic shifter module had gone out. Park reverse neutral in and drive are the only functions available. To downshift from drive fourth, third, second, and first have lost all ability. Primarily the driving of the vehicle is through the streets of san francisco and the ability to downshift is necessary to avoid collision and to climb the steep hills. Not only for myself, but for anybody else with this problem for example: driving to an exit ramp from speeds of 65 and needing to decelerate to 25 would be very difficult and major where on the brake system. Now for climbing the hills of san francisco in a high gear puts a major stress on the transmission. Please take into consideration that the electronic shifter module should be recalled for safety . This vehicle has already been recalled for an ignition and has been replaced but I received several notices from Jeep starting out as simple and is nicely put his please see your service dealership there is a recall and to the extreme of receiving notices that said your vehicle has a recall and you are putting other peoples lives in danger by neglecting to have it fixed. I have done my homework and the ignition and was told from a dealership that it was not necessary since I only use the key with no keychain. I have also done my homework on the electronic shifter module and there are many people who have made videos or testimonies about their Jeeps having the problem of the ability not to downshift through the electronic shifter module. In the past 12 years I pray that there has been no accidents in direct relation to this electronic shifter module but if you're a driver you know that every gear on the vehicle is there for a reason and rely on the safety of the vehicle.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2016

The contact owned a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While changing lanes at approximately 40 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently without warning. The brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond. As a result, the contact crashed into another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was destroyed and towed. The manufacturer and the dealer were made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 73,000.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2016

Vehicle completely shuts off while driving, with 4 attempts by the dealership service, vehicle continues to shut off while driving.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2016

Vehicle will not shift into correct gear when accelerating from a dead stop. Tops out at 3,000 rpms at 60mph. This is an intermittent problem. But will at least happen 2 times a day. When it happens you have to pull over and shut off the engine off and restart. This most likely will fix the problem. This is very dangerous when in traffic. This typically happens when you stop at a traffic light and start to take off. I had the censers changed in the transmission but didn't fix the problem. The vehicle has less than 100,000 miles on it. It is getting worse every day know.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2015

I was leaving the car wash and after putting the Grand Cherokee in drive with my foot on the brake it accelerated on its own and the brakes were not responsive. Unable to stop or slow down, to avoid traffic, I crashed into a stone wall. The car is totaled and I had serious injury to my head as the airbag also did not deploy.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2015

In rush hour traffic, the car would lose power everytime the car came to a stop or idled. 3 days later, the car lost power in speed limit traffic after going over the railroad tracks. Since then, it loses power at every stop. If I am not aware, the car rolls into oncoming traffic! I took the car to my nearest dealer. They confirmed that it was the ignition switch that has been recalled and a part hasn't been sent to dealers. I called Chrysler and all they did was put me on a list! they apologized for me not having a car to drive and that was it! they would not provide me with a timeline of when the part would be ready. They refused to provide me with a loaner vehicle while it was off the road. I have lost my mode of transportation unless I want to risk my and my family's life, and they say there is nothing they can do even though they are at fault!.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2015

When I was driving my 2005 Grand Cherokee, the vehicle turned itself off causing me to lose braking and steering power. The ignition recall is what is going on however Chrysler/Jeep does not have the parts to fix the problem nor are the offering any possible solutions. They are refusing a rental car due to the issue not being life threatening. However, having a vehicle shut itself off while driving is very life threatening to myself, passengers in the vehicle and innocent bystanders around me on the road. I am highly dissatisfied with Chrysler.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2015

While driving approximately 55 mph the etc warning light came on and I lost all control of the throttle control of the car. I manged to coast home at 15 mph speed where I call call the dealer and have the car towed tothe shop for repair. A throttle control module was identified as being shorted and they replaced it at $1508. 20 cost to me. Prior to this incident my control module went out causing the electric seats to retract and engine begin to shut down. This required a new power module at $1543 cost to me. The recall issued by Chrysler for the ignition switch problem NHTSA 14v-438 has yet to be resolved by Chrysler since September 2014. I feel the earlier electrical problems could be very likely related to the ignition switch recall and I had to pay for the other repairs, also the plastic support that holds all the interior door handles secure to the door have all broken because of a know design failure Chrysler has on these vehicles. Chrysler has refused to repair the defect and this car is a danger to anyone who is in it while driving. If an accident occurred or a fire in the car, you could not escape from car in time to prevent serious injury. If there is no recall for this defect there should be one.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2015

While rounding a corner husbands knee bumped into ignition switch, car shut down. Received recall notice in sept. 2014 and have contacted local Jeep dealer several times, still no parts to fix this problem. We are following suggested handling of key fob, only the key in ignition. The danger became very present to us last night as we had just gotten off the highway where we were driving at speeds of 65 mph. This would have had a vastly different outcome going that fast. How long is it going to take before this fix takes place? we don't want to die!! had I been driving instead of my husband I would have surely panicked and wouldn't be sitting here writing you now. Chrysler needs to get moving on this before we encounter a dreaded accident.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2014

I have had issues with this vehicle recalls p73 and 41 for over a year. The truck has been sitting in my driveway for a year!!! I have notified Jeep numerous times, and yet the part has not been produced. I have been left with no car for 1 year. I have had to pay for uber, taxis, rentals, buses, trains, and have walked everywhere due to this recall. It has drained my battery. Jeep has not once compensated me. Every time I call, they say next month. This had been for one year now! the car lost power while driving on the interstate on 66, 395, and 495 interstates. What is it going to take for Jeep to do something? I had one rep said we'll reimburse me, how are you going to reimburse me, for a part that's not even in production. I reported this issue to the Jeep dealer where I reside last year about the lights flickering and the please fix the electrical brake system error, the refused , because they stated, they never saw it. I was told I can rent a car for them, on my own dime for 40. 00 a day!! I shouldn't have to when it's Jeep's recall. I have lost out on jobs, because of transportation. This is really serious.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

I have called several times and Chrysler cannot tell me when this part for the recall p41 will be replaced. Please note no accident has occurred but I think its criminal that they cannot give me a time when this will be replaced!!!.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2014

While driving the ligths on the intrument cluster, radio, ac and lights shut off as well as loss of power steering and enging shut off. Including the brakes, accelator, and all electrical system. Leaving me with absolute no control over the vehicle. I noticed the ignition key had slipped into the forward off position while the vehicle was in motion, creating a deadly hazard as it results in loss of all funtionality of the vehicle. When I tried to restart the vehicle, my vehicle will nott start up right away has to turn the key couple of times to get my vehicle started.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2014

It has happened on several occasions now; however, the first time my truck completely shut off, I was driving ~35mph then slowed down a bit to turn and suddenly had no power. It started back up with out issue, but it was terrifying, as I was in the middle of an intersection. Most recently, I was driving with my wife and kids in the truck and a similar incident occured. I was driving ~25 mph when the engine just shut off. Again, it started on the first attempt.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2013

I was pulling into a space to park, was coasting into spot did not have my foot on the gas. My car made a loud noise and shot forward -up over a curb and through a wooded area until I hit a trailer. Prior to this happening my gauges in my car were all flicking on and off on my dashboard. I reported the incident to my insurance company and had the body work done. The insurance company will not cover the cause of the accident only the accident itself. My insurance company sent one of their appraisers over to the body shop at the dealership where I purchased the car and had the work done and was told that the same incident happened to one of the guys that worked at the body shop while he was pulling my car back into one of their garages. I am supposed to pick up my car because the body work is complete but I am afraid to drive the car again and feel that this is a major safety concern. I purchased my car from this dealership 3 years ago, it was used when I bought it. Do I have any rights as far as having them test and repair the car at their expense?.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2013

After dealer performed recall 13v175000, traction control is inoperative but no lights are illuminated to indicate the failure of the traction control system. Also, shifting the transfer case is inoperative. No warning lights or informational messages are displayed to indicate the loss of functionality. Dealer has cleared codes and replaced parts multiple times, but the problem remains. Safety issues are: 1. Driving in remote areas in low range, and being unable to shift into high range prevents driving on paved roads. . . Which could leave a driver stranded. 2. Failure of traction control system could result in loss of control, especially in winter.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2013

The contact owns 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while entering a parking space, the vehicle abnormally accelerated and crashed into a parked vehicle. The contact was not injured. 24 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle's speed increased to 80 mph without warning. The brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond causing the contact to engage the emergency brake. The failure recurred on several occasions. Also, while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle decelerated without warning. The contact pulled over and the vehicle restarted after several attempts. The failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the part needed to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2013

Exact same scenario. . . . Traveling down the road, stopped at a light and car went into limp mode with the esp mode disabled lit up on the dash. Car was idling at just under 2k rpm and would not accelerate. Car normally idles at just under 1k rpm. With my foot on the brake the car wanted to drive forward, light turned green and let off the brake, I was doing 20mph without my foot on the gas. I pulled over and shut the car off, restarted and ran fine for a day. Next day I broke down 5 times coming home from work. Car would run fine and all of a sudden I would feel a power surge in acceleration and I knew it was coming, next stop light car would start to idle funny and light turns green, no power. No matter how hard I smashed the gas pedal, rpms would not move from just under 2k. I shut the car off, restarted and took off like normal. Im going to the dealer tomorrow to have it checked out and im taking statements from this page to show the dealer that there are many people having this problem and cannot fix it. . I am positive Jeep knows about this problems and will not admit to it. Hey if we have enough people can any say "class action law suit"???? OH yeah remember I said I have video of this??? because everyone said dealer could not replicate the problem or figure it out? I also have a 15,000$ paper weight in my driveway that's worth no more than 400$ at the local scrap yard. I've had to many problems with this Jeep and this is the last straw. Jeeps are junk, and remember "its a Jeep thing", you wouldn't understand. Yeah they are right on that, I don't think anyone understands!!! I also have recorded video of this if anyone from Jeep wants to contact me.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2013

While traveling at highway speed the electronic throttle control system of the vehicle completely failed placing the vehicle into limp mode as indicated by the flashing warning lights and the dashboard display reading "esp disabled". The vehicle reduced speed drastically without driver input to do so. Were it not for the awareness and capability of the driver following the vehicle, this drastic reduction in speed would have caused a vehicular collision on an incredibly busy main thoroughfare. The affected vehicle suffered a complete loss of throttle control and the engine stayed at approximately 2000 rpm's regardless of driver input to the throttle pedal. Maximum speed dropped to no more than 15 mph. Stopping the vehicle completely at traffic control devices was difficult due to the constant high rpm the engine was maintaining. The vehicle was taken to the service department of the nearest Jeep/chrystler/Dodge dealership where it was troubleshot. The electronic throttle body was replaced consequent of the diagnostic check ran on the vehicle. The next 30 miles driven in vehicle were uneventful. The next day the exact same malfuntion occured again, albeit on a not so busy road (thankfully). Conversations with the service department reveal no confidence inspiring trouble shooting and/or repair procedure for what is apparently a known problem for many products across the corporate line, spanning many model yeas and generations. Basically, it was stated that they are aware of the issue but are unsure of what causes it or how to remedy the malfunction. The vehicle is now parked useless in owners driveway until a solution is found and the vehicle can be safely driven again.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2012

The air bags light coomes on and stays on, the fuel system light comes on and stays on. When checked by mechanic was told some sort of sensor. The speed control does what it wants it can go from 45mph to 20mph and the vrhicle tries to cut itself off I have to emediately put it in neutral to prevent that from happening.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2012

My car was recalled by Chrysler under p41/NHTSA 14v-438. That was in July and I just called the dealer and they still don't have the part. How much longer do I have to wait?.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2012

The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle went into limp mode. The traction control light and the esp light illuminated on the instrument panel during the failure. The vehicle's speed then decreased from 30 to 5 mph. The contact maneuvered the vehicle to the shoulder and shut it off. Upon restart, the vehicle operated as normal. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the throttle body was dirty and needed to be cleaned. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 98,350.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2012

My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee (first incident) while turning a corner at approximately 15-20mph revved up, would not shift, and prnd were all lit up on the dash, as well as the engine light came on. After a few starts the engine light has gone off. Second incident, from dead stop at a light and accelerating, same issue. Engine light goes off again. This has now occurred 4 times within 2 months and is a safety hazard considering the fact that your speed drops down out of no where and can potentially cause a serious accidents, causing harm to car a drivers, especially behind you, them not being aware that you are suddenly about to drop speed without brake lights!.

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle was at a complete stop when it surged forward and crashed into another vehicle. The transmission, slippage, and various other warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel after the failure. During the failure, the contact applied the brakes but the vehicle continued to surge forward. The contact suffered major back injuries as a result. There were major damages to the front end of the vehicle and the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer. The dealer could not diagnose the failure, but the vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileages were unknown.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2011

We received a recall notice June 2014 for ignition switch. My vehicle dash board, gauges hear, air, everything shuts off at least 5 times a week. I am told from subclass that the part is still not in. In doing research, I have found the some cars completing shut down. Some while driving 60 on a highway. This needs to be fixed. I feel that over a year is long enough. I need my Jeep fixed and safe to drive around with my 4 year old grandson in the back seat. Thanks, deb.

33 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 2 mph, the vehicle surged forward until crashing. A police report was filed and the driver was reported injured. The fire department also appeared on the scene due to smoke emitting from the engine. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop where the vehicle was not examined for the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 60,000.

34 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle would lunge forward abnormally. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unavailable and the current mileage was 83,000.

35 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2010

My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee started acting up about a year after I purchased it and has progressively gotten worse and worse. It has problems shifting and identifying what gear it is in on a daily basis, for example when I put it in drive from park prnd will all be illuminated like it doesn't know what gear it is in and it will make a loud thud sound. Then when you drive it won't shift from first gear and will rev up or it will get stuck in 3rd gear and won't down shift. Sometimes it will be driving normal and when I stop at a stop sign and then go to pull out into traffic it will stall right in the middle of traffic and I can't get it to snap out of it! it will also decide that it doesn't know what gear it is in while I am driving on the expressway and will start to rev up and freeze on me. This is very unsettling and dangerous and could defiantly cause a serious accident. From what I have read in other reviews many people have this same problem with their 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee so it doesn't seem like just a coincidence to me and something should be done. I have taken it to different mechanics and no one can give me an answer as to whats wrong or how to fix it.
