1 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2022

I have not owner this vehicle for very long but while driving the engine will tune off! the engine isnt stalling it straight tunes off at low speeds or high speeds. It will tune off while accelerating almost like its miss firing. Most time the vehicle will recover on it own but ultimately will tune off. This is important becuase it dose this while on the highway, in traffic and it unsafe not to mention scary.

2 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2018

When filling up my Jeep with gas the filler neck over flows every single time and I heard the counterparts on the Dodge durango is having the same issue and there is a recall on them fixing the same issue. This is a huge environmental hazard and since other Jeep owners I know with the same make and model are having the same issue.

3 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2018

When pumping fuel at a gas station, the fuel spills over in large amounts onto my Jeep, fender and onto the ground. This has happened more than once.

4 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2016

Vehicle turned off while driving down the highway. Lost power steering and power brakes and came to rest in the middle of the highway. Vehicle indicated problem was failed electric throttle control. Problem reoccurred 8 times while driving the vehicle to the dealer for service. Vehicle would start and go and would then shut off randomly. Major safety issue.

5 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2013

So the starter has been a issue ever since I bought the car from my father 2 years ago. The key seems to be the problem since I got the starter rebuilt. It just doesn't start and will turn off at times for no apparent reason which would scare everyone in the car. I was wondering if there is a recall because there should be.

6 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2013

I was driving the Jeep and it accelerated suddenly as if the throttle was stuck. The throttle pedal in fact was not stuck and I had to shift into neutral to get it to stop accelerating. After shifting to neutral, the Jeep stalled in the roadway and I ended up driving through my neighbor's yard to avoid pulling out into a busy intersection as I had no brakes or steering. I almost ran over a pedestrian I didn't see walking on the sidewalk. This vehicle has been to dealerships multiple times for stalling at freeway speeds and stalling when driving around town. This has been an ongoing safety concern, especially with the stalling and Chrysler is well aware of the problem. Most recent Chrysler case # is 23853259. They have replaced multiple things so far and the problem still exists.

7 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2013

On June 10 2013 we purchased a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. 6 days after the 30 day warranty expired, was the beginning of a series of incidents that have continued until now 6/3/2014. About a week after purchasing vehicle the motor died in traffic. My wife drove to the dealer and told them what happened. They drove the vehicle but nothing happened and told her it was probably nothing and not to worry. But over time the problem has worsened to the point that it is not safe to drive. The ignition is on, everything is working, then the ignition kicks off, motor dies, and steering is lost and we have to roll to the curb and restart the engine. Drive a few blocks or maybe a mile or two then the ignition kicks off again. This has happened once on a freeway here in California, luckily close to an exit where we were able to roll off. Now the dealer wants to charge a very large sum to analyze and repair the problem and we feel they knew about this at the time of sale. I see on the net others have the same problem we have with their Jeeps cutting off.

8 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

On many occasions both my husband and I have smelled gasoline when getting into the car as well as when driving the car. This is not after fueling the car when there may be a smell of gasoline. Its when it has been sitting or just driving down the road. We have not noticed a leak. I have seen on the news today that the national highway traffic safety is wanting a recall of certain model Jeep grande cherokee's but the corporation is not planning to move forward with recalls. Although my Jeep grande cherokee is a 2008 model and not on the list of year models, this issue with fuel leakage and dangerous situations with rear end crashes concerns me since we have and continue to smell gasoline when getting into and driving our car. Can you please document this and provide me more specifics as to why and how the leak may be occurring and if there is any action I need to take to remedy the problem.

9 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2009

While sitting at a stoplight, on two (2) occasions my 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 suddenly accelerated on its own while my foot was on the brake and revved up (throttle surge), then the tach went back to normal, and the engine went back to idling. Took it to the dealer I bought it from, they checked the on-board computer and no incident showed; they told me they called Chrysler but no one has reported this before and no technical bulletin has been issued regarding throttle surge issues. Have only had the vehicle 11 months. Now at times, while stopped and idling, the engine will act like it's going to cut off as the idle drops for a few seconds. Dealer also did not find an issue in the computer with this problem when I took it in a second time.

10 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2008

Sudden acceleration/ loss of brakes. Vehicle accelerated to full throttle while entering from freeway onramp. The driver took foot off accelerator and vehicles accelerator pedal continued to move downward to full throttle and would not decelerate after an attempt to "pump" the accelerator pedal to try and get the pedal to release. The automobile was then put in neutral and the engine would not slow down in" rpm's". The brakes were applied and an attempt was made to stop the vehicle and the brakes were not functioning properly with the automobile coming to a very long and slow stop white trying to maneuver the automobile to the side of the road. Once the vehicle was brought to a stop the motor was still at an extreme "rpm" level. The motor was turned off at the ignition switch and the engine finally stopped running. After sitting at the side of the road for sometime the vehicle was restarted and driven to a safe location where the driver let the vehicle sit for an hour or two and restarted for the final drive home(about five miles). The vehicle was taken to the dealers service department the next business day. The dealer ran a scan on the vehicle and diagnosed that the event occurred as stated. The dealer consulted Chrysler service center and were recommended to replace the throttle and brake modules for the sudden acceleration and braking problems. The vehicle parts are at the dealer with the vehicle. The vehicle was test driven by the dealer and the customer was told the vehicle was ready. When the customer asked if the vehicle was repaired and safe the service department representative said "we installed the recommended parts by Chrysler service" and would not say if the vehicle was repaired properly or safe from the sudden acceleration/brake problem. The vehicle as of today 12-24-2008 remains at the dealer.
