1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2025

When driving it will randomly shift into 4th gear very hard and stay in 4th until you turn it off. It will happen at any speed and be fine for months or do have the issues consistently for long period of time then stop. It happens with no pattern or related reasons.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2020

I have two 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee's. Recently I became aware of the fca group p57 recall which is an updated ignition cylinder and wireless module after asking around my circle about my two vehicles stalling. Most recently my wife and child where driving at 110kph driving straight when her gc shut off. She safely pulled to the side but this is extremely unnerving. My gc has also turned off, but mine has been at lower speeds or when idling. My VIN is 1j8hr48m48c522270 her VIN is 1j8hr68m08c504912 my local dealer has said there is no oustanding recall and that p57 does not apply to either of my vins. \this is confusing since my existing ignition cylinders are the same as those coverend under the recall and the new part requires a push-to-turn (mine do not have this now).

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2019

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Jeep cherokee. The contact stated that when the vehicle was turned, the engine started and then shut off. There was no warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that there was a recall number:14v567000 (electrical system) and told the contact to called the dealer. The contact called an unknown dealer and was told that there was no recall, the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000. Fe.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2019

2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee goes into limp mode and stays in fourth gear. If I restart the car it goes back to normal but eventually goes back into fourth gear and stays.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2019

I was driving down a busy road and all my warning lights came on at once-abs, check engine, battery, etc. All my lights started to flicker. My head lights began to get very dimmed so I tried switching my fog lights or high beams on but that only made it worse and the lights completely turned off. My windshield wipers began going very slow making it really hard to see as it was raining. I was able to pull onto a side street. My car felt strange while driving like I wasnt able to accelerate so once I was able to pull off on the side somewhere and get my car in park, all my lights flickered heavily and shut off 1 by 1 and then my car lost all power completely. I had to have my car towed back home bc nothing would start it.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2018

Vehicle has randomly shut down completely while driving. Loss of power, power steering and brakes. Very dangerous. Took to dealer and left for a week for them to test and replicate and repair. They said they were unable to. This has happened 3 times. Each time, so far, I have been able to coast to a stop out of traffic, but I fear that it may happen in a less fortunate setting. It happened again today, just driving straight ahead down the road. Check engine light comes on and a red lighting bolt light also comes on over on the right side of the instrument panel.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2018

I was driving on nys route 17 in the vicinity of liberty when my left front axle broke, the left front wheel came off, the vehicle veered left and crashed into the center island guard rail.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2018

The vehicle experiences an issue in one of the areas noted, usually when accelerating through a gradual turn to the left such as on an "on" ramp. The drive train has been inspected by both independent mechanics as well as Jeep's authorized service center in yonker's, NY with reports of no physical damage. The Jeep service center has stated that while they too have experienced the malfunction, they are incapable of diagnosing the problem, suggesting it be driven by the owner "until it worsens".

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2017

2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Consumer writes in regards to recall on parts p57 and p73 on vehicle.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

While driving at freeway speeds (approximately 75mph) the vehicle intermittently stalled several times and twice in 1-hr it completely shutdown. The motor lost all power. It requires a complete restart of the vehicle. The key must be turned to the off position and restarted. It has done this several times before. It seams to happen under a load or while accelerating or pulling a hill. It has happened in high traffic circumstances and has at times been difficult and dangerous to pull to the side of the road. I've taken it to Jeep to have it repaired. They apparently have a star case number s1218000003 in which they say to change the spark plugs. This seems like a dangerous situation to put consumers in.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2015

My 2008 Grand Cherokee will not start at all. Dash light up but will not turn over. Battery in new. Starter tested and ok. Win recall was performed. 4wd software updates were performed. Over the past year the vehicle has had multiple no start/no crank issues. After few hours or days, it will turn over. Vehicles is always parked/not moving when this occurs. The dealer wants me to pay out of pocket for the tow for a diagnostic test. If the test does not show anything, I pay another $120 for the diag and have to pay for tow elsewhere. Jeep customer service is useless. I pay monthly payment and insurance for a driveway ornament.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the vehicle lost power. In addition, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v470000 (electrical system) however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000. Oo.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2015

The vehicle shuts off for no apparent reason with no warning. It has happened multiple times. Sometimes while in reverse ,sometimes while in drive and sometimes while moving from reverse to drive. It has happened at low speeds and at speeds up to 30 mph. Sometimes the vehicle won't let you shift to park to restart it. There are no indicator lights when it happens. Very scary as its happening more frequently. It has happened in dry and wet conditions, on residential and city streets. All indications are that ithe cause is the same as other fiat Chrysler recalls fir the 2008 Grand Cherokee though ours is not on a recall list.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2015

I took it in for a recall p73. . . They instead tried to get money for oil changes and other things that came to over 1000. 00 was suppose to take 4 hours had my Jeep for 2 days. . Said unless I paid them 130. 00 to replace a badly corroded tc connector they wouldn't do it. . . Got my Jeep back looked at the tc connector and it was not corroded. . In the mean time I called fca and they said it showed the recall work was done . . It was not!. . They lied. . It also needs a new tc motor that some do need on the recall, lucky me mine was one. . . Now what. . They didn't do it and this could cause me harm or a accident. . .

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2015

My transmission goes from drive to 4th gear on its own and stays there this is extremely dangerous also my engine light and other lights come off and on & also water is coming into the vehicle around the molding this vehicle is a defect and is unsafe to drive.

Johnson Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram of budd lake, new jersey, 07828 was made aware of the failure and stated that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000. Ad.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2014

The 5. 7 liter hemi motor in all Chrysler vehicles have this similar issue. The driver side exhaust manifold bolts break and an exhaust leak sputters out of the driver side engine compartment. I spoke to several mechanics and Chrysler service technicians and they all confirm it is a common repair. I have also seen numerous complaints online. The cost to replace the manifold and drill out the broken bolts is around $700. 00. Although this is not a safety issue I still believe it should be recalled instead of the manufacturer passing the bill to the consumer. It occurs to nearly all 5. 7 liter hemi engines at some point.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2014

I filed my second complaint on 07/14/2014 component(s): electronic stability control , unknown or other date of incident: 06/28/2014 NHTSA id number: 10610308 on 10/22 I transferred my Jeep transmission into neutral to tow behind our RV. When I took my foot off the brake the Jeep electronic fdcm threw it into 4wd and it lurched forward almost hitting our RV and my husband who was working on hooking up the vehicle. I warned your office in January and again in July that this was a safety issue but had no idea it could do this!! I was concerned about needing 4wd and not having it. Now I am concerned about our physical safety. Nothing has been done to make Chrysler fiat step up, own up the n23 debacle that caused this issue and fix it. They must be held accountable and fix this before someone is injured or killed. Please do not ignore this complaint and just another Jeep owner complaining about the n23 recall. This is a serious safety issue!!!!.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2014

Vehicle has had a history of unresolved electrical issues beginning at the time of purchase. In 2009, the ignition switch began to fail and the key fob was replaced. Due to a VIN number issue with a replacement program, Chrysler refused to replace the key assemblies though they were replacing identical assemblies on other vehicles that used the same modules. Several "reprogrammings" have been conducted to clear problems. Specific issues include: 1. Erratic behavior of electrical system that stems from the operation of the ignition switch. For example the engine will start but the vehicle will be impossible to shift out of park and the radio/navigation will not work until you jiggle the ignition switch and key fob. 2. Chronic failure of the electronic throttle. You can be driving along at any speed and you will lose throttle control. This has caused several near miss accidents. The problem is acknowledged by a check engine light and lighting of an specific idiot light on the dash. However, the lack of throttle response is very dangerous and can be restored by only stopping the vehicle and shutting down the engine several times to reset the electronics. 3. Chronic failure of the dealership to address proper correction of the electrical problems. Vehicle was covered by a full warranty and an extended warranty but these problems were never repaired. Due to sporadic and random nature of the systems faults, the dealership refuses to make repairs. 4. Dealerships unable to clear check engine light and blame issues on the fact this unit has a diesel engine. Local waterway car wash is refusing to wash these vehicles due to rapid and unattended acceleration issues which have caused accidents at their car washes. This problem can be documented by calling them by telephone. They consider the vehicles to be a safety risk. Please help!.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2014

My Jeep stalls every month or every month. I have brought it to the dealershipt for over a year regarding this issue. Jeep stalls while driving at low and high rate of speeds. This mostly happens to me at high rate of speed. My road is a 50 mph road and I have had to pull off to the side of the road and restart my Jeep. This is very dangerous no matter what road I am on, but I do live on a major road which has lots of traffic. The dealership cannot seem to find what is the cause of this stalling and says no codes show in the computer. I put the latest stalling episode above. Chrysler really needs to step-up and fix this issue. I am not the only one with this problem.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

I was purchasing a used Jeep cherokee 4x4, and had completed a full and detailed inspection of the unit on Apr 28th, 2014. I had tested the 4 low and it worked fine. The unit was to go into Chrysler on the Apr 29th for the n23 recall prior to my picking up the unit the following day. The n23 recall was completed and Apr 30th I picked up the Jeep. The next day again tested the 4 low and now the service 4wd light came on. The Jeep had not been used at all since the recall other than a very short drive home.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2014

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to shift into neutral. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that the actuator mode switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000. The VIN was unavailable.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2014

I took my vehicle in for the n23 safety recall and my 4 wheel drive system no longer works. The work Jeep did to fix the recall has has removed critical functionality of the vehicle.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

The vehicle has two chronic problems, the most severe of which is that it suddenly shifts into neutral while being driven, resulting in a sudden & dangerous loss of acceleration and maneuverability . Recovery action requires pulling off the road to shut off and re-start the engine. This problem has occurred at least twenty times, usually in damp or rainy weather conditions. Two different Jeep dealers have been unable to diagnose or fix the problem! one dealer thought replacing a module for about $900 would solve the issue but it did not. The other chronic problem is that the car sometimes will not start for no apparent reason!.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2014

Went into dealership service service center to have "n23" safety recall performed. Before n23 software update there was no problem using the 4wd-low function, afterwards the 4wd-low shift function comes up with "service 4wd" code and will not shift into 4wd-low. I discovered this while stuck in a snow drift this weekend. After researching the issue I discovered that many Jeep owners that went in for the n23 recall are having the same issue.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2014

Lost 4x4 drive low range. Problem is directly related to the "safety recall n23 / NHTSA 13v-175 reprogram final drive controller module" that a Jeep service center had preformed. I am from north canada where we have snow from early November to may end it's not safe to travel without functional 4 wheel drive. Do we have to wait till someone freezes to death or dies from dehyadration in desert until Chrysler do something.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that when the ignition was turned to the on position, the vehicle did not start. The contact stated that the key had to be turned to the off position then back to the on position in order for the vehicle to start. Once the vehicle was started it would not shift out of the part position unless the ignition was turned to the off position and back to the on position. The failure recurred continuously in cold weather. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000. Sg.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2013

Jeep stalled in traffic. Had to quickly shift to neutral and attempt to restart. Has been in the shop probably 7 times for this issue and still hasn't been fixed.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2013

After having my vehicle serviced for the n23 recall, the service 4wheel drive indicator has been coming on and I no longer have 4 low. It is at the service center again for the third time. I am concerned that the recall is either not performed properly or isn't an adequate fix to the transmission issues and is creating I unintended problems.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2013

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4. The contact stated that he received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 13v175000 (electrical system , power train) in September 2013. 31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2013

2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland hemi 5. 7 stalled after a rapid sudden acceleration. Jeep started "bucking" (losing power and regaining it) then took off without anything touching gas pedal and no warning. The Jeep went from 30 mph to over 50 mph and kept accelerating. I had to throw in neutral to get it to stop. I then pulled over and it stalled out. This has been reported to Chrysler case # 23853259 and I spoke to carrie.
