1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2026

The contact owns a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The dealer informed the contact that the battery charge was extremely low. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, and was informed that the alternator had failed. The alternator was replaced. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle sputtered and stalled. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road. A tow truck arrived on the scene, and while the tow truck driver was attempting to jump-start the vehicle, sparks were coming from the battery. The tow truck driver became aware that the alternator was red hot, and the wires surrounding the alternator were burned, with a burning odor coming from the vehicle. The tow truck driver did not jumpstart the vehicle due to safety concerns. The vehicle was pushed onto the flatbed truck. The vehicle was towed to the residence and had not been driven since. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 17v435000 (electrical system); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2026

I brought my vehicle to the dealership (axis Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram in jersey city, NJ) for open safety recalls. The vehicle has been at the dealership for approximately 3 weeks. I was repeatedly told parts were coming (alternator and brake booster), but the repairs were never completed. I was later told I could pick up the vehicle, but no documentation was provided and I have reason to believe the recall repairs were not performed. This has caused delays, inconvenience, and safety concerns.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2025

I will be going 50-65 mph down the highway and my Jeep will just die. It will die for about 10-15 seconds then start again. This is very dangerous. I have talked to multiple people that this has happened too.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2025

- the core component that failed is the totally integrated power module (tipm). The failure was initiated by a fault in the external fuel pump relay (v62 safety recall remedy part), which caused improper power delivery. This improper power delivery subsequently damaged the fuel pump motor, requiring replacement of both components. This failure has cascaded, also disabling the circuits for the engine cooling fan (codes p0480/p0693) and exterior lighting (headlights/b1630), and the horn. I am in possession of the burnt-out fuel pump relay/fuse component. -the engine stalled while the vehicle was operating, the exact hazard the v62 recall was meant to prevent. This was followed by a catastrophic tipm breakdown, creating new, simultaneous safety risks: overheating/fire risk: the cooling fan circuit failed (p0480/p0693), causing severe engine overheating. No headlights: the headlights failed (b1630), causing total loss of visibility at night. No horn: the horn failed, eliminating the ability to warn other drivers. - yes. The initial engine stall and subsequent no-start condition (due to a blown relay fuse) were confirmed by an independent service center (monro). The cascading failures (overheating, horn, lights) and the diagnostic codes (p0480, p0693, b1630, c2201-00) were confirmed on 11/1. - the vehicle was inspected by an independent service center (monro), who returned the failed recall component to me (relay). Recommend it go to a certified Jeep dealership. It is waiting to be towed there. -the first warning was a history of intermittent starting difficulty. On 10/23, the engine stalled while operating and immediately resulted in a no-start condition. The check engine light illuminated after the subsequent failed restart attempts.

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2025

Was inspected @ my local garage. The tipm goes out and you lose turn signals, wipers, transfer case control ( locks in low gear) causes airbag light to go on. And Chrysler does not manufacture them anymore. Jeep had to be towed.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2025

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the vehicle’s ecm or tipm system appears to be malfunctioning, causing intermittent no-start conditions. The engine fails to turn over even though the starter clicks, and all electrical systems are functional. The issue is temporarily resolved by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, suggesting a logic fault in the ecm or tipm. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the vehicle fails to start without warning, potentially leaving occupants stranded without transportation. This can be dangerous in remote areas, severe weather, or emergency situations. A failure like this undermines confidence in the vehicle’s reliability and safe operation. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? the issue has been observed and temporarily resolved by resetting the battery. Research shows this is a known issue in similar Jeep models, referenced in TSB 08-007-14. The symptoms align exactly, but Jeep denies coverage because the VIN is not in the affected range. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? not yet inspected by the manufacturer or third parties, though Chrysler/Jeep was contacted. They acknowledged similar issues exist but declined to assist based on VIN exclusion. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? yes. The engine wouldn’t crank, and diagnostic code p0113 (intake air temp sensor circuit high input) appeared. The vehicle was stationary when the issue occurred and has had prior history of similar electrical faults.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2025

I am reporting repeated safety-critical failures with my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee that have rendered the vehicle unreliable, dangerous, and now inoperable. I believe this vehicle suffers from a systemic electrical defect related to the totally integrated power module (tipm)—a well-documented issue across Jeep models that causes starting failures, loss of power, and unpredictable behavior of vehicle systems. On [xxx], my vehicle failed to start. The starter clicks but does not engage. These symptoms align with known tipm-related failures. Despite this, the authorized dealership (madison Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram) has refused to test the tipm, insisting on replacing the starter without confirming the root electrical issue. This places consumers at risk of breakdowns without warning and reflects a pattern of ignoring known defects. My vehicle also has a history of major mechanical failures: water pump, thermostat, and oil pressure unit replaced (Feb 2024) rack and pinion, control arm, wheel hub replaced (Jul 2024) rear brake caliper seized (Aug 2024) radiator failure (Apr 2025) the vehicle remains with the dealership since 4/30/25. As of 5/14/25, I have received no update or repair. My case with stellantis (case [xxx]) has been met with repeated communication failures. I missed one call from the case manager on 5/8 and immediately returned it—leaving three voicemails over two business days and receiving no response. I was promised a callback by 5/13 and still have not heard back. These issues raise serious concerns regarding the safety and reliability of this vehicle. I am requesting the NHTSA investigate potential tipm-related electrical defects and non-compliance with manufacturer responsibility to address safety defects. I do not believe it is safe for my vehicle to be returned to me in its current state, and I urge your agency to consider further action regarding this recurring and widespread defect. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2025

I was driving down a hill, came to a stop, and it died. I put the car in park, and turned it off and on. There were no messages on the dashboard. The car started, so I took a left turn and suddenly the car stopped moving. The rpm went up, but the car didn't drive. It kicked back and it finally started driving but with the car hesitating. I was in the middle of a very busy intersection. The car died 3 times yesterday, and today it died 2 times.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2025

The Jeep Grand Cherokee overland starts upon pressing the ignition button, and will shut off when I try to put it in reverse. Some days it will shut back off immediately after cranking it up.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2024

The timp started melting and almost caught fire. Luckily I caught it when if first started and am getting it replaced. . After reading this is a common issue I am relieved my car didn’t catch fire. Please address this with Jeep. This is dangerous.

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2024

Ok July 14th 1:30 pm we got into car to go to lunch started driving and smoke started coming from the headliner and smelled like burning plastic on driver side near visor, smoke filled the car we were able to roll down windows and able to stop the car. The area continued to emit smoke and area on headliner felt hot. After turing the car off the smoke/ fire continued and had to locate the battery under passenger seat to disconnect power. Extremely stressful and scary situation as we have grandchildren and an elderly mother that we care for. I called Chrysler on 7/16/2024 spoke with kayla she gave me a case number and informed me I would receive a phone call. I never got a call, so I called today 7/22/24 spoke with ash she informed me this is not under warranty and my call was sent to a survey . I called back spoke with druba she told me I can expect a call within 24-48 hours .

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2023

Has been having issues with the hydralyft suspension. There has been a leak in both front air suspension fittings that connect to the air lines that supply air to both of the front air bag suspension suspension shocks. Replaced both of those out of pocket. My main reason for contacting you guys today is because I've searched my VIN number & after further research I've found out that my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland w/the 5. 7litet hemi engine has started to give me some issues the other day with the battery dying while I was driving it home. The very next day I walked outside because I was about to head to work. So I cranked my SUV up noticed the battery light on the dash was back on again but then I seen a little bit of smoke coming out from underneath my hood so I shut my truck off opened the hood & seen it was coming from my alternator. I even got a video of when I opened the hood that morning when I seen the smoke, & when iooked under the hood the copper wound wrapped diodes inside the alternator were glowing red hot the color of lava. All I smelled was burning copper so it was on the verge of the metal being so hot it melted, like they were just pulled out of a metal furnace. My VIN number should be in this request I can provide it if not. I can also provide pics & video of SUV & alternator. I pulled the alternator off earlier myself because I've been out of transportation for the past week. So I'm going to get it testing here ina bit.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2023

Vehicle sent for recall repair and service on June 12, 2023 at northland Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram, 14100 west eight mile rd, oak park, mi 48237. Vehicle serviced date release on June 19, 2023. 17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2023

Alternator, fuel pump, and brake booster water shield all recall parts were supposed to be repaired at the Jeep service department on June 18 entered in to service department on June 12, 2023 and ready for pick up on June 19, 2023. The service department informed me that after installing the new parts that they shutdown the pcm had to be replace. After picking vehicle up from the Jeep service department the car shut down on the freeway which it stalled in the middle of the busy freeway which could have resulted in death which is a safety concern. After vehicle was safely pushed to side of road the vehicle was towed to home. I called the dealership next morning they informed me that I would have to repay for another tow back to the dealership to see what the problem was but I had to wait for an open appointment for this service so waited and finally the service department stated that I could send the vehicle back to service now on July 05, 2023 after week of calling and not getting an appointment. As indicated on the receipt from the Jeep service department on June 19, 2023 the vehicle failed because of recall parts failing. Now the second time the vehicle is in service the Jeep service department indicated that the recall parts failed again and now they don’t know what’s wrong with the vehicle at this point and they are trying to find remedies such as making me pay for a new tipm that was damaged from the burnt out recall parts after being fixed. The vehicle is still not operational and no loaner vehicle was offered to me since this is my second time experiencing the same issues from the recalls that supposed to have been fixed which can put me and my family in danger without a proper solution or remedy.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2023

The contact owns a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 15-25 mph and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated before accelerating as intended. The contact stated that the brake pedal resistance increased while depressing the brake pedal, which required the brake pedal to be depressed to the floorboard. The contact stated that the emergency stop brake engaged unexpectedly while the vehicle was idling and while driving at various speeds. A "low battery" message was displayed, and upon inspection, the battery was hot. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who diagnosed failures with the tipm (totally integrated power module) communication and the transmission; however, the vehicle had not been repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously included in unknown recalls and was taken to the dealer where the recall repairs were performed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/25/2022

Vehicle has stalled over twenty times, whether driving on the highway over 60 mph or driving locally within 20 mph. Initially stalled December 25, 2022 while driving home on christmas day with my entire family, driving full speed on the highway. I felt the stall and pulled over as quickly as I could. Attempted to restart several times and engine would crank but not start until after 5-7 attempts and several minutes. Since then I continue to experience the same stalling and attempts to restart vehicle. Took to service center multiple times and they are unable to determine the issue. Fuel pump relay was changed twice by the dealership. I had to pay $1500 one time as they said the cost was not covered, which is ridiculous since the problem reoccurred many times after that. Most recently, fast forward to almost 1. 5 years later and the issue is still occurring. Now it stalled and appears to be rolling back when in drive until I shift the gear to park and move the gear several times. It has been losing traction and power. I really need someone to determine a resolution to the issue as this is a severe safety issue and I am very concerned about driving it.

20 Electrical System problem

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2022

1)the alternator caught fire. Napleton Jeep arlington heights is replacing it so you would have to reach out to them for the part. 2)driving and smoke started coming from under hood of car. Car stopped dead while I was trying to turn onto side street, almost causing an accident. My safety, other drivers safety, as well as the homes in the area were at risk because of the fire. When hood was opened there were small flames and smoke coming from the alternator. 3) unknown 4) unknown 5) no warning lights came on prior to any of this happening. No indication by vehicle that there was an issue. Vehicle towed to Jeep dealership and they are replacing the alternator and battery. Do not believe dealer service center is looking into this. They said they are charging me to replace the items. Noticed there was a recall for this issue (t36) but Chrysler said my VIN # does not match the "batch" that was recalled. This clearly is the same issue. This needs to be looked at!!! Chrysler needs to stand behind their product and rectify this so no other cars do this. It could have been a catastrophic situation.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2022

2nd, to continue with the issues of the vehicle lastly provided, while driving the check engine light come on and the traction control turns off, cannot turn back on using dash button, cannot access vehicle system on wheel, change display of dash view, windshield wipers are stuck on constantly, turn signals do not work nor does the hazard lights, vehicle is also stuck in 4x4 drive and cannot be taken out. Vehicle was taken to preferred jcd of muskegon mi and diagnostics were run with no clear diagnosis and no fix, suggestion was to replace tipm box. Now Jan 2024 and vehicle still sits with issues and not driven.

23 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2022

Two years ago I replaced my thermostat as my car was overheating on the highway, not a big deal as it was just shy of 10 years old. Now two years later I am having the same issues, I brought it in, as it is doing the same thing and it again is the thermostat. It is not a faulty thermostat so, it is something that is obviously making the thermostat fail in the vehicle.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2022

Yes the Jeep developed a stall while going down the highway then would crank and run for 3 or seconds and die again and that’s all it would do. Check engine light comes on as well as the lighting bolt on dash. I believe the fuel pump is part of the problem seeing how at a qt tank of gas it will die and only run when more gas is added but also the body control module cause it keeps throwing diff codes after I fix the issues. As well as the way it cranks n dies like security issue. This is very common for Jeeps everywhere.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2022

Shortly after purchasing vehicle we noticed there was an issue when using the remote start, the vehicle would start and then the horn would go off as if the alarm was going off, the vehicle would shut off and not want to start with the even with the power button. I disconnected the batter and let it sit for about 20 minutes and then reconnected and started the vehicle normally with the power button, about 6-7 weeks go by and after not using the remote start we had another issue, (no key detected) with both keys in the vehicle, did the same procedure with battery disconnect and reconnect and holding the key fob on the power button so that it would recognize the fob and it seemed to be ok for the time being until the next issue arrived.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2021

The contact owns a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 19v813000 (electrical system) however, the part to do the recall repair was not available. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The dealer informed the contact that the fuel pump relay for the recall repair was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that parts were available for the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 198,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

27 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2021

Truck wouldn’t start found a recall for my vehicle took to dealer for recall recall is for wiring harness to fuel pump and if fuel pump fails it’s suppose to be covered under the recall dealer saying otherwise that I have to pay.

28 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2021

2013 Grand Cherokee: driving on highway, battery indicator came up on dashboard, all dashboard lights started flashing, windshield wipers turned on, and the car abruptly stalled in the middle of the highway. Inside hood, alternator smoking as if it was going to ignite. Alternator, battery, wire harness, fuse box, computer: all fried. Expensive repair. Problems line up with exactly this existing recall NHTSA campaign 17v435000 "if the alternator fails, the vehicle may stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash. There is also the possibility that the alternator may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire. " Jeep/Chrysler already fixed this recall on this specific car in 2018. According to dealership the warranty for repair is 2 years. Jeep is allegedly "fixing" these cars resulting in the recall consequence to happen regardless. Looking into this issue online it seems I am not the only person to experience this. Jeep/Chrysler needs to open the recall back up as there are unsafe cars on the road unbeknownst to drivers. In addition to this there is an existing recall-NHTSA campaign 19v813000- fuel pump relay, which can result in the car suddenly stalling and causing an accident. I have been trying for two years to get this repaired by various Jeep dealerships. They claim there is a limited amount of parts. I have been informed numerous times that if the car stalls as a result of that recall they will reimburse the repair, which indicates there isn't a shortage on the part. Jeep is dragging their feet leaving unsafe cars on the road.

29 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2021

Vehicle stalled while driving multiple times. When I try to make an appointment for the fuel pump relay recall the part was either out of stock or the dealer only accepts recall appointments during specific dates and times that are inconvenient.
