When I called the dealer and they said there were no replacement parts in stock. The cost to repair out of pocket is $1450. 00. Additional information, is available upon request. Thank you!.

5 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2020

Current issue - while waiting in a fast food line the battery light came on. . . After receiving food - I pulled into a parking spot and before I could turn the vehicle off, it started giving off error codes related to various electrical items not being available - first warning - svc. Air suspension - second - blind spot detection not available - third evic error - fourth - adaptive cruise not available. . . Then died and smelt like burning rubber when I exited the vehicle. . . A failed effort by roadside service to jump the vehicle did manage to turn on the windshield wipers which wouldn't turn off but that's all that accomplished so I had roadside service put it on a flatbed and tow it to my house since nothing was opened and I didn't want to leave it somewhere with the windows down (of course they wouldn't roll up). . . Pretty clearly this should be part of the t39 alternator recall that was issued due to bad diodes which cause the alternator to fry the electrical components with very little warning. . . The car should die and then the replacement of the alternator should rectify the situation. . . Not - the light comes on - the car immediately dies - and then you need a new pcm or ecm and all new wiring. . . Issue #2 - the suspension has been a total fiasco accumulating $13,000 in dealer assessments not under warranty - the whole system has gone out within 80,000 miles and even after replacing 2 air struts - 2 upper control arms - the tie rods end links - and the cv axles - and the compressor - it still sounds like a rickety bucket of junk. . . When driving - always. Issue #3 - the water pump continuously fails. - not sure if when driving but one would suspect that to be the case.

6 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2019

My 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee's alternator died. The battery light came on while pulling into the driveway and the next morning the Jeep was dead. It is covered under the t36 recall. The pcm went as well and is supposedly also covered under the recall. However, the battery was also damaged and destroyed. This situation could have caused a fire. The dealer, bob mariano Jeep dealer, at 146 manchester st, concord, nh 03301 tells me that I am responsible for replacing the battery. This cost should not be placed on the customer. The battery should be paid for by the dealer. The battery was damaged because of the faulty alternator, so was the pcm which is being covered. The short circuit that occurred in the alternator caused both the battery and pcm to die. So why should I pay for a new battery? the dealer is going to charge me $332. 50 for the battery plus $119. 90 to install the battery. The same mopar battery goes for approximately $230. 00. Again, the difference in price is appalling.

7 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2019

The damages directly caused by the alternator recall directly related to my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee are being declined to be covered by dealership in a vacaville California. They are wanting to charge me $1000 for damages to my vehicle that were caused by alternator issue.

8 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2019

My 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland started to smoking from the alternator and burned up almost catching fire. There was a recall that they only looked at the alternator never replacing it. I want to know more about this recall, I want to be contacted in regards to this faulty part that almost caught my Jeep on fire. I feel this part should have been replaced. The Jeep was running stationary when it started whistling and making a bad noice. Once I started to drive it to auto zone it got worse and started smoking, making a loud whistling sound and choking like it was going to die. When I pulled into auto zone it was smoking bad, smelt electric burning and it was all coming from the alternator. I had to have it towed 60 miles back home and another 12 miles to the dealership that next Monday morning because this happened on a Sunday when everything was closed. If it's a recall I want it replaced, tow paid for and the time it's been out of commission.

9 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2019

The contact stated that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 17v435000 (electrical system) and 17v572000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic). The contact did not receive any recall letters. The vehicle was towed to ganley Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (310 broadway Ave, bedford, OH 44146, (440) 232-2121) where it was diagnosed that the battery caused the failures. The dealer wanted to charge the contact for both repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 119,000.

10 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2018

Below is the read out for a recall that is on a few other Grand Cherokee's. My vehicle stalled the other day when my wife was driving and the engine completely shut off and had to be restarted. The problem: the alternator may suddenly fail, causing the vehicle to stall without warning and increasing the risk of a crash. The alternator also may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire.

11 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced failures after it was repaired per NHTSA campaign numbers: 17v572000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic), 15v879000 (electrical system, interior lighting), and 15v115000 (electrical system). The dealer (stevens creek Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram, 4100 stevens creek blvd, san jose, CA 95129, (408) 248-1800) performed the recall repairs. The contact felt that manufacturer campaign number: t-36 and NHTSA campaign number: 17v435000 (electrical system) regarding the alternator assembly failed to provide a permanent solution. The contact heard a ticking noise and a fire occurred within months of the dealer's recall repairs. While pulling into a parking area, there was a strong burning odor and smoke appeared under the hood. The contact parked and exited the vehicle. Upon inspecting under the hood, the contact noticed flames near the alternator assembly. The fire extinguished on its own. Afterwards, the vehicle was unable to be locked electronically, start up, and be driven. The vehicle was towed to huntington Jeep Chrysler Dodge ram (1220 e jericho turnpike, huntington, NY 11743, (631) 673-0270), but they did not inspect the vehicle to determine if the failures were related to any of the recall campaigns. The vehicle was still at the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was not available.

12 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2018

Purchased this vehicle used for my 17 year old son approximately 4 months ago. On 7/20/18 the vehicle died as he was driving down the road. After testing the battery, we paid to replace it, but the new battery was only getting about 11v with the car running. Therefore, we paid for a new alternator and have discovered the issue still continues. After researching, we discovered the recall from July 2017, many months prior to our purchasing the vehicle. I have called landers Chrysler Jeep Dodge in benton, ar to schedule the service for the recall. The first appointment available is August 23rd. This is unacceptable. First, we are fortunate that our son wasn't hurt when the vehicle died while driving down the road. Secondly, we have spent approximately $650 for replacement parts and still can't drive the vehicle. Lastly, having to wait almost a month for the dealership to repair the recall issue is ridiculous. It is unreasonable to think someone can do without a vehicle for a month, especially when the issue is no fault of ours.

13 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2018

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 15v879000 ( electrical system, interior lighting), 17v435000 ( electrical system) and 17v572000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic). The dealer was not called. The stated that while driving about 15 mph, the alternator light illuminated and the vehicle lost power and shut down. The vehicle was towed to the mall of georgia Chrysler Dodge, Jeep dealer (770-945-0839, located at 4345 buford dr, buford, GA 30518) where the technician gave the options of repairing the failure with an after market part or to wait for two weeks for full recall repairs. The contact owns a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While pulling into the driveway at 5 mph, the contact observed smoke coming from the engine and heard an abnormal winding sound without warning. The contact stopped the vehicle, opened the hood, and observed that the alternator was red (glowing). The contact poured water over the alternator to prevent a fire. The local dealer (my Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram fiat, 4650 e pickard rd, mt pleasant, mi, 48858) was contacted at 989-773-6343. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was confirmed that the alternator failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 17v435000 (electrical system) for the alternator replacement, but the part was unavailable. The dealer stated that they could replace the alternator with another alternator for a fee. Once the recall alternator was available, the dealer could replace it with the correct alternator from the manufacturer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided case number: 32614886. The manufacturer confirmed that the parts were unavailable and there would be a fee for the non-recalled part. No additional assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 150,000.

18 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2017

Hi on September 8, 2017, while driving my bus quietly, I feel a strange noise in my bus Jeep, suddenly warmed up, they turned all the lights on the panel and went out , we called the service of crane, to take it to the dealer triangle in mayaguez, p. R. When I go to the dealer, they notify me that my Jeep has an alternator recall (which I never received a notification, since the dealer has my wrong address in his record). The dealer notifies me that they do not have the piece in the warehouse and that they have to order in florida and that it will take maybe two weeks. My husband, mr. Hector caban seeing that this situation was going to become a little difficult decided to rent a a car at allied car. We paid $656. 70 in car rental. The dealer promised to give me a car and at this moment October 26, 2017 nothing happens. Currently, I am resident of puerto rico and in this process hurracaine maria arrives in puerto rico on September 20, 2017. Actually the dealer inform to me that they have no lights no system and they cannot fix my bus promptly. Actually they inform to me that my alternator are in the docks in san juan, pr and these trucks are confiscated by fema, since the priority is to take the trucks with food and water to distribute to the victims of hurracaine maria. I need to resolve this situation, and the dealer has taken too long to resolve this, they are very negligent and not at all empathic with this. This recall was in June, why I was never warned, this situation could have been avoided if I had been contacted via cell phone or email. This situation would not have come so far, if they had been efficient. In the midst of this catastrophe I find my hands tied, frustrated and I do not know what to do. The triangle dealer in mayaguez and his manager mr. Ismael medina has made no effort to resolve this issue, his customer service is terrible.

19 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

Driving home from work on Friday evening of labor day weekend (9/1/2017) the check engine light in my vehicle went on. I took my car to a good year dealership in town. They told me my alternator was going out and needed to be replaced. They were not aware of any recalls on that vehicle at that time although, I do think one existed. When I contacted Jeep about this the following week they indicated a recall was in place and I needed to submit a form for reimbursment. I have checked with Jeep several times and they indicated that they have the necessary paperwork but will not be issueing refund checks until 2018. This is five months after I have incurred the expense and submitted a request for reimbursement.

VIN tool confirms parts not available.

22 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2017

While driving my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee on a busy 4 lane highway my alternator failed, resulting in the engine stalling. I had no steering, no brakes, no control over the car whatsoever. Fortunately I was going up a hill and the car came to a stop without anyone being injured! I could have been killed. The dealer is saying that recall p60 - which covers exactly what happened to my car - does not cover my car because I have a 180 amp alternator instead of a 160 amp, which is covered by the recall. How can Chrysler group limit the recall by the amps when clearly this is what happened to with my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee??.

24 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2017

I smelled something burning while idling at a stop, and then the alternator began making a whining noise after vehicle began moving and vehicle began throwing codes (check park assist) . After shutting car off it wouldn't start again. Replaced alternator, battery, ground straps and car would then start but continued givng off codes and wouldn't run right. (wipers coming on by themselves, etc. ) had to have the car towed to the dealer, who replaced the computer but charged me $600 and denied it was related to the alternator. Recall notice then received for alternator, but I'm now out $1,244. 21 for alternator, battery, ground straps, tow and computer. Parts not available by Jeep to fix the problem for this recall. Have submitted receipts to Jeep but don't know what will be covered since dealership refused to fix computer as a related expense to the alternator.

25 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2017

My Jeep was recalled for alternator diode thermal fatigue. I received notice in July 2017. As of November 15th 2017 parts still not available ( 5 months ). Unacceptable as car could stall at anytime due to this failure. Fca needs to affect repairs now! recall #t36.

26 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2017

I was driving my vehicle, when all of the sudden the vehicle's display panel started to flash various messages (I. E. Park brake assist, safety belt, battery, etc. ). While this happened, the vehicle began to loose power and I was able to cruise slowly into a parking lot, in which it crept into a complete stop. I turned off the vehicle and attempted to turn it back on and it would not crank nor would any lights turn on. I had a friend try and jump the vehicle but it would not hold a charge, and there was an electrical smell coming from the alternator. The vehicle was then towed and brought to a Jeep dealership, were they had diagnosed that the alternator was bad and needed to be replaced.

27 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2017

June 16, 2017 - vehicle was in motion being driven on city street. Day earlier, the vehicle's "check engine light" appeared. Brought to mechanic who initially diagnosed as an evaporator/ vacuum sensor failure. Next day, dashboard began to display other warning lights in rapid succession which was then followed by loss of a/c and within minutes stalled. Turned off roadway just before suffering complete loss of power in office parking lot. Vehicle towed to mechanic shop who performed test and declared alternator failure which is being replaced. Description similar to recall announced in October 2014- NHTSA reference #14v634000.

29 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2017

While driving on a city street, all indicators illuminated on the dash & the windshield wipers came on. The vehicle stalled and would not start back up. Jeep was towed to the owner's home. Mechanic found faulty alternator. Car still did not start with replacement alternator. The computer was faulty as well. After nearly 4 months of repairs, the wiring harness was replaced, new computer installed, and the new alternator, the vehicle started. Currently, the car creates a strange noise while driving & it struggles to start. No recall was listed to this specific VIN until 2 days after getting the car back from the shop (only on the mopar & NHTSA site. ) (17v-435)(t36). Owner has not been notified of the recall.

30 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2017

I have a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with only 54,248 and the alternator all of sudden started smoking, however, this Jeep is not on any previous recall. I was heading home from work. Burnt smell, siren noise, and the battery light came on. I made it home and called the Jeep dealership. My husband said its a bad alternator.

31 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2017

Used factory auto start and the alternator shorted causing the engine computer to burn out and possible the fuse box as well. Car would not start and must be towed to mechanic. Luckily we weren't in the car when it started smoking up.

32 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2017

Alternator failed at 35118 mi. Had in repair twice for issues when driving. Loud whine, burning smell and smoke reported. First time dealer keep car for overnight and said they could find no issue even though they had smelled the burning smell too. Second time they told me it was my alternator. They replaced the alternator, I picked up the car, drove 2 miles and the battery light came on. I returned immediately and they kept the car for 3 more days. The failed alternator had "arced" to the power train, and then that had to be replace too (that under warranty thank goodness). But alternator was replaced for $1000 out of my pocket even though very low mileage because was over 3 yr warranty period. In researching how could this have happened so early, I found that the 160 alternators from the same period had been recalled, but the 180's are not (at least not yet. . . . I am hoping to help initiate another recall since I see online that others who have this model and year and 180 alternator have had same issues as me). I was encouraged by fca customer care to file a petition for reimbursement, and have just heard from them that they have declined it since my VIN isn't included in the recall. To be specific about the episodes, I was driving both times that this occurred. Both times I had just started to drive and the car made a loud whining noise that lasted for a bit, and increased on acceleration, and quickly I could smell something like burning rubber and see smoke. I was afraid the car was going to stop suddenly because it started to be jerky, and when I came to stop light it seemed like it was going to stall. But it kept going, and I drove straight to the dealer both times.

33 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2017

As I was driving the car shut off and power steering went out. I barely made it safely to my destination. We called our Jeep dealer and there were a few recalls. We were able to get the Jeep to the dealer. They told me it was the alternator and battery. There is currently a recall on the alternator for the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee (p60/NHTSA 14v-634); however, they claim that my 180 amp is not covered. What I experienced is exactly like the description of this recall. Luckily I was driving when this occurred, because I don't think my wife would have been able to control the vehicle to a safe stop. They are not honoring the recall to replace my parts. More importantly, they are not including my vehicle in the recall because its 180 amps; however, this is a tremendous risk to any owners of this vehicle and I was not notified. I discussed this at length with fiat Chrysler automobiles (fca) on 03/02/2017. I spoke to customer representative ramario and nicole.

34 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2017

There is a current Chrysler recall out right now (below). P60 - safety recall - alternator / 2011-2014 (lx) Chrysler 300, (ld) Dodge charger, (lc) Dodge challenger, (wd) Dodge durango and 2012- 2014 (wk) Jeep Grand Cherokee my alternator burned up and the whole Jeep was dead randomly one morning emitting smoke under the hood and throughout the cabin. I turned it on and heard a whining noise which then stopped and then smoke just coming out of the alternator. I read the recall and it only applies to the 160 amp alternators. According to my VIN, I have the 180 amp alternator and I feel this recall applies to the 180 amp alternators as well but it isn't listed. I had to get it replaced and ended up spending over $900 on something I think should have been part of this particular recall given the specifics of this recall and the matching symptoms of my burnt up alternator. Thank for any information you can provide.

35 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2017

Low battery light came on while driving 35 mph, and two miles later the majority of dashboard lights came on. Simultaneously, a constant beeping began and wipers turned on. The scary part is that within seconds, I lost power steering and brakes did not work correctly. The road I was driving was precarious, windy, and did not have a shoulder. I continued at minimal speed around the curves for less than a mile, looking for a safe place to pull over. Very soon, the car accelerator stopped and the car died. I managed to pull the car onto the side of the road (took effort without power steering). Terrible and sudden experience. Not enough warning to get the car serviced before complete electronic and vehicle shutdown occurred. Thankful that no other vehicles were around during the incident, as I am confident I did not have safe control of the vehicle during this time. Towed vehicle to safety. Mechanic tested and discovered that alternator fully shorted and battery was completely dead (unable to recharge).
