The drivers side seatbelt will not catch or retract. I went to an independent shop who contacted Jeep to order the part. They were told the part is on “extreme backorder” and it could be months before I could get my car repaired. My Jeep is not driveable. Based on the lack of availability of the part I feel this should be classified as a safety recall.
I simply want to report the long delays (months) in having faulty front seat belt assembly replaced. I had to personally research this as local dealers were 'not aware'. 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee owners reporting malfunctioning or delayed front seatbelts as critical safety defect that directly impacts occupant protection, and reporting it will track issues and potentially compel manufacturer into faster action, even though this specific issue is now under a warranty extension rather than a recall. The fact that it's a warranty replacement under an extended warranty/bulletin should not result in long delays given the potentially life-threatening problem contributing to overall vehicle safety. are we waiting for a fatality to have the replacement parts become more readily available, given the warranty bulletin (d-21-04) was issued way back in 2021? I should hope not. Or is this a case of, it is what it is (with regards to the delay). Currently, customer service is now telling me the required part will be available March 6, 2026 . . . Three months after my identifying the cracked seat belt assembly problem. I just want to know if this is (acceptable) reasonable for a life safety issue?.
After a rear end hit by another car the red alert/caution light for the airbag system on the front electric dashboard was lit up. The system did not engage after being hit and after taking the car into for repair replacement parts are not available over 5 months later for the same year and model by any original source in the us as of today. Accident occurred in August 2025. Repair shop did identify the 2 failing parts, both related to parts associated with the driver side seatbelt and where it connects to the seatbelt buckle at the side of the seat. Insurance company of the person who hit us forced us to pickup the car from the repair shop despite airbag system not fixed and as of to date 01/17/2026 has not been able to repair or correct the faulty system. They have also as of to date shown willingness to total the car but instead forcing us either to drive a car with a faulty safety device or park it in our drive way and get a new car for personal use. They have also repair shop designated by the insured company inspected the safety system, identified the problem, notified the insurance company and also informed the insurance company the 2 replaced parts or not available in the us. No warning lights prior to accident regarding this airbag safety system and warranty light is currently present 01/17/2026 obviously this is a vital part(s) of the airbag safety system and if not corrected or fixed puts any driver at a elevated risk in case of an accident.
Seat belt locks and is not functional.
Passenger seatbelt does not retract at all. Only 60k miles.
January 2, 2025 - the front passenger seat belt failed to retract. Since we always use the seatbelts when in our vehicle, we have not had anyone sit in that seat since. There were no warning lights, messages or hint of a problem prior to this failure. January 30, 2025 took the vehicle to the local Jeep dealer to have the problem looked at. Per the service order, seat belt was inspected using x90 instructions and it failed. Replacement part ( 1vl06dx9ag) was ordered and I was told it would be 2-4 weeks before the part would be available. February thru early may I would visit the local Jeep dealer, as well as other Jeep dealers I may drive by, to see if the part was available and I was told it was backordered and the waiting list for it was growing. May 28, 2025 - Jeep dealer service rep called me to say that it was still back ordered with no idea on when part would be coming in. Until repaired I remain unable to use the front passenger seat.
The passenger seatbelt is broken, will not retract whatsoever!!.
Drivers side safety belt does not retract and stays loose.
Drivers seat belt not retracting.
Passenger seat belt did not retract. No accident or any incident that led to it, normal use. Then noticed the plastic portion where the seat belt feeds is cracked and obstructing it from retracting without feeding it manually back through the shoot.
Seat belt is not retracting. Feels unsafe.
Seatbelt does not retract.
Passenger seatbelt will no longer retract as the guide seems to be cracked and broken. Because of this the broken piece is pinching the seat belt down not allowing it to work properly. Seat belt can be guided back in manually but not on its own the way it’s supposed to. Please consider issuing a recall as this is a very dangerous issue in case the vehicle is involved in an accident. Shops are charging $3300 + to fix this issue that seems be very common for this year make and model.
My passenger side seatbelt does not retract. The plastic “d” ring at the top is broken and it causes the seat belt to not retract. I have read that many people have this issue. I contacted my dealer and they said there was no recall on this part. Because it does not retract, it doesn’t “catch” and causes a safety hazard. A passenger would not be restrained in an accident.
The seat belt will not latch properly, it can take up to 10 minutes or longer fasten the driver's side seat belt. Now that I have it locked, I have to crawl in and out of the seat belt. I dare not unlock the seat belt in fear that I will not be able to get it to lock back. Please note, each time I have locked and unlocked the seat belt it has progressively gotten worse to lock the seat belt. I am at the point where I now longer unlock my seat belt, as I states earlier, I fear that I will not be able to lock it back.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 15 mph at night time on a road construction site, the front end of the vehicle suddenly declined on a 10 ft deep road surface. The contact stated that she immediate depressed the brake pedal; however, the front driver's side seat belt failed to restrain her as needed, and she hit her head against the steering wheel. The contact was able to exit the vehicle. The contact sustained a concussion and two black eyes, but did not receive medical assistance. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The contact then drove the vehicle to the residence. The contact stated that the failure occured due to the seat belt d-ring wear. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the front driver's side seat belt assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.
The seatbelt plastic tensioner guide cracked and now the seatbelt won’t retract.
Headrest just popped open and deployed.
Front driver and passenger seat belts do not retract, front passenger headrest clips failed and will not snap back in place.
The drivers side seatbelt was not retracting correctly. We we’re taking a road trip on 95 and as a passenger I notice my seatbelt was very loose on me. When we stopped to get out, the seatbelt literally fell out the car door. We need to drive about 150 miles back home tomorrow and we are scared to death of being thrown through the windshield if there is a sudden braking or accident. I call the closest Jeep service center and they said there was no recall for the seatbelt not retracting. However, I found this in a google search: front outboard seat belts may not retract properly - x90 warranty extension date: 4/15/2021 models: • 2014-2015 Grand Cherokee laredo • 2014-2015 Grand Cherokee limited • 2014-2015 Grand Cherokee overland • 2014-2015 Grand Cherokee srt • 2014-2015 Grand Cherokee summit summary: customers may comment on one or more of the following: the front driver and or passenger seat belts may not retract properly; a front seat belt d-ring plastic is cracked.
The seat belt was recalled 2 years ago and we are waiting on a part from Jeep dealership and we just heard that this Jeep is being recalled for possible explosion in conjunction with back door of Jeep.
My driver side seatbelt no longer retracts, and is not functioning.
Passenger rear seat belt is jammed and will not extend properly. It is completely useless and will cost $940+ to fix.
The driver side seatbelt will not retract. This is a significant risk in the event of an accident. Yes, my local mechanic has confirmed that the seatbelt is not retracting.
I purchased a used 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5. 7l v8 hemi on 03/03/2023 at approximately 7:30pm from rairdon Honda in burien washington. The car started displaying on the dashboard that the seat belts for the passengers weren’t on even though the seatbelts were indeed on, and then the sensors for the airbags started going off stating that there was a problem with the airbag sensor. The car was then taken back to rairdon Honda in burien and they simply stated that they recently replaced the car battery and that was the reason as to why the sensors weren’t working. After speaking to one of the technicians they stated since the seatbelt sensors showed that the seatbelt wasn’t on that incase of an accident the airbags wouldn’t deploy. This was not disclosed at the time of sale, I was reassured that everything would be fine when I took the car home the first time. I can’t risk having a car that has such severe safety issues and put my son and partner in this car knowing that the airbags could possibly fail to deploy.
Front passenger seat belt will not retract.
Driver side seat belt does not retract and is not secure. When I called the dealership the service person said there is no open recalls it’s my responsibility to have it fixed. There are several 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee‘s on here with the same problem. Jeep need to take responsibility and fix it! click it or ticket is the catchphrase here in florida. Jeep needs to fix it so I can click it!.
Seatbelt not retracting.
My passenger seatbelt does not retract as it should.
I lost control of my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo and crashed head on into a utility pole. The airbags did not deploy and my seat belt did not lock up on. I was traveling about 40mph at the time. The lack of restraint from the seat belt and no airbag sent me smashing into the steering wheel. No warning lights telling me something was wrong with airbag.
Both passenger and driver side seatbelt guide cracked and made seatbelt inoperable. Unable to retract seatbelt freely.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the driver's side seat belt was fractured. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed the seat belt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified but no additional assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
Both my driver and passenger seat belts are not retracting as they should. Seat belts are really loose and puts my life at risk every time I drive my vehicle. I did take my Jeep to my local auto shop and they quoted me over $1400 to get both seat belt retractors and assembly replaced. In my opinion, its something that should be replaced without cost due to manufacturing malfunction. I have not had my vehicle inspected by the manufacturer or insurance. There was no warning lamps or messages prior to failure. I bought my Jeep pre owned and have only has it for 2 years. This is not a “wear and tear” situation.
The want retracted . It ‘s in a lock position want go in and want come out on passager side.
In December 2021, the b-pillar mounted d-ring cracked in my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee causing the passenger seat belt to not retract. The cracked d-ring prevented the proper retraction of the seat belt so that it would not fit snugly and securely around the passenger. Research showed that NHTSA initiated a preliminary evaluation about such occurrences in the 2013-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees with fiat Chrysler automobile us llc in September 2019. I have ordered a part from the Jeep dealership and am awaiting its arrival so that the dealership can perform the necessary repair.
The front passenger seat belt malfunctioned; it does not retract and is stuck in one set position that can not be used by a passenger. Not having a working seatbelt in the front passenger seat is a significant risk to anyone that is a passenger in the front passenger seat. This problem has been inspected and confirmed by the dealer (north olmsted Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, ram located in north olmsted ohio), but not by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. After the dealer inspected the seat belt, they confirmed the seat belt is covered under an "extended warranty", which may suggest this is a well known problem with the vehicle. This inspection by the dealer was completed on November 24, 2021 and the seat belt still has not been fixed by the dealer. It has been nearly three months that I have not had a working seatbelt in my vehicle due to the dealers inability to fix the problem, and luckily no one has been seriously injured or killed in that time.
My seatbelts won't retract due to cracked plastic on the d ring. Dealer says this is a known issue but it's been since November and they say it's on backorder.
The seat belt retractor on the passenger side stopped working completely several months ago and the drivers side is not working correctly. The vehicle is basically unsafe to drive. We have been told that this issue is part of a warranty extension solution that was approved by your organization. . . Instead of an actual recall. We have been waiting for months to have it repaired, but Chrysler reports they cannot get the part because of supply chain issues. We feel that Chrysler should pay to have it repaired with another seat belt retractor (not the one that has been on back order for months) so that can have a safe vehicle to drive. We have found the part locally. . But have been told the warranty will not be honored because it is not the part that Chrysler approved for the repair. Please help us resolve this. I have filed an official complaint with Chrysler (reference number 81226409) but have received no response. Thank-you in advance for any assistance you can provide.
Passenger and driver side front seat seat belt fail to retract once extended, resulting in excess seat belt material across the body, and thus possibility of a delayed or insufficient tensioner reaction in an event. Vehicle is subject to a warranty extension for a similar concern (slow retraction), but after inspection by an authorized dealership, it was determined that the seat belts upper d-ring does not exhibit the damage that the warranty extension was released for. However, upon inspection it was found that other plastic routing components on the seat belt have begun to crack, fail, and separate. As this other damage was not specifically addressed in the warranty extension, no coverage for this defect applies.
Glockner of ashland ky has determined that both front seats belts will not retrace. I understand that the warranty is extended for 15 years. I have been waiting for several months, they trll me they sre on back order. My wife drives this vehicle every and this is s serious safety issue. Thank you in advance for your help. Please help us. Regards rjholloway120@gmail. Com.
Rear seat belt retractors do not adequately tension seatbelts.
The driver side seat belt does not retract back to position. When parked and exiting the vehicle the seat belt hangs and gets caught in the door. This has to be a safety issue with the seat belt fitting so loose because it no longer retracts.
Within the same month period of time both passenger and driver side seat belts are now completely failing to retract. Earlier this year they started retracting more slowly but now will not retract at all making the seat belts essentially useless. I've taken this vehicle to the local dealer who reports the retraction assembly needs to be replaced on both sides. The vehicle is going on 6 years old with limited use on the passenger side. The dealer quoted me $1200 to replace both sides. This is a very expensive repair to be doing every 5-6 years. Safety equipment should be more reliable and durable than 6 years.
The seat rest popped opened and it cannot be pushed backed together. I was parked at the time when the incident occurred. Both seat belt locks do not open properly without pushing down the buckle into the lock while pressing on the release button at the same time. This has been ongoing for a couple of years.
The driver seat belt will not retract, it stopped working for no reason. . Took it to the dealership and was told it will cost over $500. 00 to repair. I do not have that kind of money to repair it, the car is not safe to drive, this car is only 5 years old. I have read numerous other complaints about this same problem.
At all times, the drivers side seat belt will not retract. Very unsafe! the belt has to much slack after I have clicked it in place. I have tried washing/cleaning the belt with no improvement. Dealership states it will cost me $500-$750, and that my warranty will not cover the cost!.
My front seat belts do not retract at I had to replace my driver side seat belt for now which is over $500. 00 dollars and my passenger side soon. .
The front two seat belts in my vehicle do not retract back to their original position. This is at all times, only solution is to feed the belt back into the retractor by hand to let it reel in. Dealer said there is no recall for this issue.
The front passenger seatbelt will not retract, therefore it will not lock into place. We are unable to have a front passenger because of this safety issue. We have tried to get it to retract while in park or drive, also with the Jeep turned off.
The seat best tensioners on both front seat belts have cracked. The drivers side seat belt will not retract to keep driver secure. The vehicle has an extended warranty but the repairs for this issue are not covered. The repairs will cost $750 in parts in addition to labor. From searching online I see many other people having the same problem. This should be a safety recall.
Service shifter message appears.
Seat belts on both driver and passenger sides have frayed.
Vehicle was involved in an accident driving on a highway (speed approx. 45) when another vehicle failed to yield at a stop sign. Front passenger side of vehicle impact with front of other vehicle. Air bags did not deploy and the seat belt did not lock causing the driver's face to hit the steering wheel. Due to the seat belt not locking facial injuries were sustained.
Driver seat belt does not retract. The dealer will replace the seat belt under warranty as soon as the new parts arrive. I will avoid driving the vehicle with a non-functioning seat belt because it is unsafe and may be illegal in my state.
Seat belt didnt click all the way, the seatbelt for the drivers side was indicated as not on as well as the airbag light. This is a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee - the belt on the drivers side is faulty -.
Tl-the contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the rear seat has a strap with a buckle that is bellow the level of the seat in an angle, therefor not allowing the tong to fit inside the buckle. The contact also stated that was not able to strap the child safety seats to the rear seat. The contact talked to the dealer about the failure, and was advised to purchase seat belt extenders. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 1,865. Bp.
The rear passenger seat belt latch is not flexible at an angle below the seat. As a result, the contact was unable to latch the seat belt. Even if the seat belt is forced to latch, the belt stuck in the corner of the buckle unless you adjust to the right angle to tighten the belt. This is totally not safe to any passenger (especially any child). Over time the seat belt also gets wrinkle from stuck in the corner of the buckle and it does not roll back by itself. I saw someone asked the Jeep dealer about the problem online but the dealer told the consumer to purchase a seatbelt extension. I do not think it is fair or a safe future to any Jeep consumer. I'm hoping Jeep can resolve the belt buckle or wrinkle belt issues.
