1 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2025

While driving down the highway the passenger seat headrest airbag deployed. Causing it to hit the back of my head with no warning. There were not any lights on or anything.

2 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2025

Last year while driving my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the headrest collision system went off for no reason, hitting me in the back of the head. Luckily I did not lose control of the vehicle and there was no collision or injury to myself. It was very scary, but I maintained control of the vehicle. I went to my local Jeep dealer pembroke pines Jeep auto nation at 13601pines blvd suite a pembroke pines, FL 33027. They told me it was a known issue and the service person made an appointment for me later that week , at which they replaced the headrest at no cost to me under a recall service bulletin issued by Jeep/stellantis. The same thing happened last week while driving, when the passenger side headrest activated for no reason, this time striking my wife in the head. I went back to the same dealership. They told me that this headrest is no longer covered under the warranty which has now expired in April of 2025. And would cost $800 to repair. They told me to call stellantis and see if they would cover the repair. I went home and called stellantis, whose customer service agent advised me that he was going to escalate my concern to his supervisor. I got a call today and they told me that my car is not covered by any warranty and that I would be responsible for the repair. My car VIN number does not fall under the recall which has expired. He also told me that stellantis is not responsible for the repair and he should ask the dealer to see if they would possibly split the cost of the repair with me. This could of been a very serious situation, had I lost control of the vehicle as a driver. I looked further online and in Jeep owners club forums and this seems to be a common problem with Jeeps and Dodge durangos, both owned by stellantis. This is a clear and dangerous safety issue!.

3 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2025

I was driving my car going 30-35mph when all of a sudden my driver's side headrest popped me in the back of my head as if the airbag in the headrest was deployed. I was not involved in any collision for this to occur nor was there a bump in the road that would have caused it. It startled me thinking someone was in the back of my car and hit me, but that was not the case. There were no warning signs or lights telling me to get any of my components inspected. I took it to the mopar service department for inspection, and they said it's a known issue for Jeeps, but there is no recall.

4 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2025

After a rear end hit by another car the red alert/caution light for the airbag system on the front electric dashboard was lit up. The system did not engage after being hit and after taking the car into for repair replacement parts are not available over 5 months later for the same year and model by any original source in the us as of today. Accident occurred in August 2025. Repair shop did identify the 2 failing parts, both related to parts associated with the driver side seatbelt and where it connects to the seatbelt buckle at the side of the seat. Insurance company of the person who hit us forced us to pickup the car from the repair shop despite airbag system not fixed and as of to date 01/17/2026 has not been able to repair or correct the faulty system. They have also as of to date shown willingness to total the car but instead forcing us either to drive a car with a faulty safety device or park it in our drive way and get a new car for personal use. They have also repair shop designated by the insured company inspected the safety system, identified the problem, notified the insurance company and also informed the insurance company the 2 replaced parts or not available in the us. No warning lights prior to accident regarding this airbag safety system and warranty light is currently present 01/17/2026 obviously this is a vital part(s) of the airbag safety system and if not corrected or fixed puts any driver at a elevated risk in case of an accident.

5 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2025

Jeep constantly leaks oil and overheats even after replacing the water pump, radiator and thermostat. The airbag light comes on randomly and also navigation system no longer works.

6 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2025

While driving downtown atlanta, GA I heard a loud noise and then a hit in the back of my head. I was startled at first not knowing what had happened. I first thought maybe I way hit by another vehicle, or someone may have thrown something from the overpass. I got off the interstate and found the head rest had blown open. I have since learned that possibly the car maker is aware of the problem, I don't know if the car maker is fixing the problem. I see where this could have negative results to owners that already have neck and back problems, another big concern is having an accident. This occurred [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

7 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2025

The srs airbag light keeps coming up and does not show up as an error when a diagnostic is run on the car and they need to pull tge system apart to figire iut what the issue is. Secondly the capless gas tank nozzle keeps falling off.

8 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2024

The panel that holds in the knee airbags under the steering wheel came open for no reason and exposed the air bag. The vehicle was not involved in a crash and appears to be a manufacture workmanship issue.

9 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2024

I have a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the front seat headrest popped out while I was driving at 35 miles per hour. My daughter was sitting there, and fortunately, no injuries occurred. This happened on the passenger side, but six months ago, it happened on the driver’s side as well, which I replaced with a used part for $200. This is definitely a dangerous defect and needs to be added to the recall list.

10 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2024

Passenger headrest exploded suddenly while driving on highway at highway speeds. Loud bang which made me swerve. No accident or incident preceded, it just exploded. If someone like my wife with neck problems was in the seat she could have been injured. I was told that Jeep has extended the warranty on this item and it appears this happens often. Had this happened to the drivers one I may have had an accident. I suggest they replace drivers headrests to stop an accident in the future.

11 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2024

Front passenger seat head rest deployed for no reason and without any impact or accident.

12 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2024

On Saturday, August 31, I was traveling approximately 50 on a freeway overpass, when my head was hit/jutted forward, causing an immediate migraine. This caused me to hit the brakes a bit and veer a little. Upon stopping and inspecting, the headrest had come apart. After googling, I see there had been a serious issue with the “active headrest restraint” on select Chrysler models. This matches my incident.

13 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2024

The advanced headrest deployed on the passenger side without cause. I was getting into the drivers side. It was in our driveway.

14 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2024

There is a recall on certain vehicles for air bags I also am experiencing a problem with mines.

15 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2024

Passenger headrest popped open while the vehicle was unoccupied, discovered it the next day taking my daughter to the bus stop. Drivers side head rest popped open a couple weeks later while we were driving about 35mph. Vehicle was not in any kind of collision when either of these incidents happened.

16 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2023

Driver's seat - headrest burst apart, airbag did not deploy. No accident, clips somehow broke and headrest is separated with airbag and internal components visible. Not sure when this happened and/or if we were even in the car. Reporting today because we had other service performed on vehicle and asked automotive shop to look at headrest. I googled this and came across others who recommended reporting to you.

17 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2023

Air bags failed to deploy during major mva. Sensors clearly should have been hit (see images). The vehicle is no longer in my possession. Safety- driver knocked unconscious likely from hitting head on steering wheel. If the vehicle did not collapse the way that it did, major injuries or death would have occurred with the airbags failing to deploy. Reproduced- unsure vehicle was collect and assessed by the insurance company. There were no warning lights prior to the accident.

18 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2023

Drivers side head rest airbag deployed for no reason. Something in it broke and now it doesn’t work and airbag service light is on.

19 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2023

Car accelerated without warning propelling me across a curb, street, then a second curb. The SUV was stopped upon impact at a concrete building. Fortunately there was no injury to others but the accident caused the car to be totalled by my insurance company. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. The airbags did not deploy upon impact,.

20 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2023

I purchased a used 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5. 7l v8 hemi on 03/03/2023 at approximately 7:30pm from rairdon Honda in burien washington. The car started displaying on the dashboard that the seat belts for the passengers weren’t on even though the seatbelts were indeed on, and then the sensors for the airbags started going off stating that there was a problem with the airbag sensor. The car was then taken back to rairdon Honda in burien and they simply stated that they recently replaced the car battery and that was the reason as to why the sensors weren’t working. After speaking to one of the technicians they stated since the seatbelt sensors showed that the seatbelt wasn’t on that incase of an accident the airbags wouldn’t deploy. This was not disclosed at the time of sale, I was reassured that everything would be fine when I took the car home the first time. I can’t risk having a car that has such severe safety issues and put my son and partner in this car knowing that the airbags could possibly fail to deploy.

21 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2022

With no warning or reason the active headrest deployed while I was at a stop light having been stopped for a few minutes and smacked my passenger in the back of the head.

22 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2022

The front passenger headrest deployed unexpectedly while driving hitting me. The car was not involved in an accident to cause it to deploy. I have not taken it to a dealership to diagnose - it is pretty obvious though (you don’t really need a qualified technician to tell you your headrest deployed). It can’t be pushed back together and it has to be replaced. There were no warning signs or any physical adjustment being made of the headrest at the time of deployment. Since this is a safety feature of the vehicle - like an airbag - a malfunction like this should not be acceptable. I would like to see this investigated and a recall issued for the component that caused the failure. Chrysler need to be held accountable for things like this. We can’t have safety systems failing unexpectedly and then charging the owner $1000 to fix them again with the same crap that is going to break again.

23 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2022

Headrest airbag deployment spontaneously. This is a known issue that has caused numerous accidents. Here is a link with multiple people experiencing the issue. People are directed to contact Jeep cares but this is a safety issue that needs to be recalled. . Read more...

24 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2022

2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the passenger side headrest deployed while driving, I understand that others have had this problem and there’s a recall for either passenger side or driver side but my Jeep does not come up on the recalls. Please advise I would hate to have the driver side headrest deployed while I’m driving. Thank you.

25 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2022

The dashboard is got some wrinkles which makes me think the dashboard is weak now, so when the airbag comer out the dashboard may come out.

26 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2022

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated upon raising the front driver's side headrest, it deployed inadvertently. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the front driver's side headrest needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000. The VIN was not available.

27 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2022

The passenger side active headrest restraint spontaneously engaged and will not reset. I was a passenger when it happened and it struck me in the back of the head. I’ve noticed many others with my year, make and model of vehicle have had similar issues, but Jeep is not wanting to accept there is a manufacturing default. Luckily it wasn’t my drivers side headrest. But it could be next time and potentially while I’m driving. There were no warnings prior and it’s extremely rare that anyone rides in that seat.

28 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2022

There are two issues. One is that the air bag light is on and never goes away and could mean faulty air bags, two the car is making a clicking noise and jerking when accelerating and the 4 wheel drive service light has come on. It could be the transfer case or differential. The car only has 60,000 miles and isn't driven everyday. It should not be having these safety issues.

29 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2022

Drivers left front headrest airbag deployed for no reason. No accident or owner abuse caused this headrest air bag to deploy. Did research and found many other Jeep owners are having the same problem. I am a florida resident and found that a lawsuit has been filed about these safety incidents. Watched Jeep repair videos and read Jeep tech documents to try to manually reset deployed headrest, but was unsuccessful because when it deployed unexpectedly the plastic pieces were cracked. Please help me resolve this safety issue.

30 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2022

I took the vehicle to the dealership because the driver’s side air bag at the knee seemed to be expanding and pushing the panel out. Naturally, I was concerned about safety in the event of an accident, so we want that bag to operate properly, but also I was concerned about the air bag continuing to expand even when no impact event had occurred. Jeep service found found that inside the sealed knee blocker panel, the airbag cover was ripped & caused the airbag to have some expansion that caused the knee blocker assembly to bulge out. The cost for this repair was $1,419. What I am struggling with is how can an airbag installed behind a sealed panel actually rip thus causing the owner to be responsible for the safety equipment repair cost. Is it under warranty? no, but why wouldn’t a safety air bag be safe in the sealed compartment without ripping therefore putting the driver (or their passengers) in danger by either deploying improperly or not deploying properly? I do believe it is reasonable to alert Jeep & NHTSA to open an investigation. I have to wonder how many other 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees have ripped knee airbags inside the sealed knee blocker panel? if a driver side air bag can rip after 7 years in an enclosed/sealed knee panel – I imagine there must be significant danger to other owners too. I am now concerned for the safety of other 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee owners which may have an undiscovered ripped air bag cover causing expansion that could injure the driver or not protect them properly in the event of an accident (and possibly cause harm to their passengers or other vehicles around them when that deploys without an impact). Drivers have a false sense of comfort thinking their Jeep’s airbags will help keep them safe but that may clearly not be the case. I have reported to Jeep case #83266298. A piece of safety equipment malfunctioned inside a factory assembled/sealed panel. The consumer should not have to pay $1,419 for dangerous poor design.

31 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2022

I lost control of my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo and crashed head on into a utility pole. The airbags did not deploy and my seat belt did not lock up on. I was traveling about 40mph at the time. The lack of restraint from the seat belt and no airbag sent me smashing into the steering wheel. No warning lights telling me something was wrong with airbag.

32 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2022

Driver side head rest broke free while driving down the road and hit me in the back of the head. No collision. No wreck. Did not activate properly, plastic holding the system together broke apart.

33 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2021

None of the air bags deployed after running of the road and hitting a tree causing inuries to the driver (broken ribs, compressed lung, fractured vertebrae, extreme bruising on right side). Insurance company is currently working a claim to total the vehicle. There has been no inspection of the vehicle or problem duplicated. If there was a passenger in the front passenger seat they would have been killed. No warning lamps or indications the air bags would not work.

34 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2021

11. 09. 21 the service air bag system light came on and when off immediately. A few days later it came on again and went off and kept doing it once a day since then repeatedly. Now yester 11. 13. 21 it came on and wont go off and it keeps beeping when it shows up on the dashboard, but the icon doesn't go off on the side dashboard.

35 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2021

I was sitting in my parked vehicle when the drivers active head restraint suddenly came apart and knocked my head and neck forward. This happened without warning and was a jarring motion to my head and neck. Thank goodness my vehicle was in park.
