The headrest on passenger seat exploded causing concussion, neck and shoulder injury. I am not sure what to do moving forward. Am afraid that the driver headrest will explode as well. Really need guidance.

38 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2021

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the service air bag warning light for the passenger’s side air bag was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where they informed him that there was an open circuit in the airbag module that needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed him that the vehicle was not under warranty or recall. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair which he declined. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 76,600.

39 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2021

On 6/14/2021 I got in my vehicle and noticed the driver side headrest was deployed outward. I can see broken plastic clips inside.

40 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2021

We were entering the vehicle, as I was getting into the drivers seat there was a terrible noise beside my right ear and pressure on my head. At the same time my grandson was entering in the rear seat behind me and was hit in left ear area with an exploding active headrest restraint. The car had been remotely started but was not actually running yet and was in park with nothing behind it. I had no idea of this potential hazard, we drive long distances with grandchildren in the rear seat and if this would have or if the passenger headrest explodes while driving, it could be catastrophic. This is not acceptable. They should be replaced immediately, not wait until they actually cause a catastrophy !!!! I would rather not be in constant fear of the next explosion in my car which could have far worse results.

41 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2021

I was driving the vehicle when my drivers headrest popped and hit the back of my head. I pulled over to see what happened and it looks as though the headrest exploded but nothing came out. I’m not sure if an airbag was supposed to deploy but it did not. Luckily because my son was in the back seat. I did not hit anything when it happened and I was just driving.

42 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2021

While parked, the front passenger head rest exploded, part of a rear-collision safety feature as I understand it. Concern is this could cause head/neck injury or worse if it occurs on the driver side while driving, this could cause an accident.

43 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2020

I thought somehow I broke my headrest and didn't realize. But when I went to look it up and to my surprise I see hundreds of people with he same exact issue. Car was not moving and was parked behind my business, came back to the headrest deployed. Surprised Jeep hasn't recalled this yet seems like a major issue, can't even imagine if someone was sitting and it exploded.

44 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2020

I was driving on a highway at approximately 5 mph. I was in a line of traffic and we were nearing a stop sign when I heard a very loud noise and felt something hit the back of my head, thrusting my head forward. I initially thought I had been rear ended by another vehicle, but then I discovered that my headrest had spontaneously deployed. The headrest is unable to be reset because the plastic pieces that keep it together are broken, which appears to be why it spontaneously deployed.

45 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2020

Seatbelt having trouble retracting.

46 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2020

We just got in the car and my wife sut the door and the head rest exploded on the passenger side.

49 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2020

Passenger headrest burst open in vehicle unexpectedly while vehicle was in motion.

50 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2020

The passenger side headrest deployed. The car was sitting in the driveway. No one was hurt. It appears that the plastic pieces clamped on to the metal bar that was holding the headrest closed broke, causing the headrest to open. I notified Jeep customer care and they told me someone would call me concerning my case and I have not received that call at this time.

51 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2020

We had just left home on a family trip, traveling at highway speeds. The passenger headrest violently sprang open, striking myself in the head. We were a lie to get the vehicle stoped, looked the whole vehicle over to make sure nothing could have cause the headrest to release like that. The headrest plastic that locks into the safety release had broken due to deterioration of the plastic. Luckily it wasn't the driver side because it possibly could have caused a wreak/loss of life. Still waiting on manufacture to resolve the issue.

52 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2020

My cars driver side headrest deployed when I started the car in my driveway in park.

53 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2020

Passenger active headrest deployed while vehicle parked, will not reset. These vehicles have an active headrest system that is designed to deploy forward in the event of a crash but the plastic housing that keeps it in place has crumbled and made the headrest leap forward in the deployed state and will not go back into position and hold.

54 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2020

Driving down the road the passenger headrest just popped off with no rear end collision. This should be a recall as this has many people with the same issue.

55 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2020

The headrest on my Jeep popped forward suddenly and unexpectedly while parked. This appears to have been caused by a failure of the plastic parts of the whiplash mitigation system built into the seat. While the seat was unoccupied at the time I feel this would have caused injury had someone been in the seat.

56 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2020

As I was driving the head rest exploded hit the back of my head and neck. Car was not breaking or driving over any bumps at that time.

57 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2020

The car was turned off, parked in my drive way. My sister and I were talking (I was outside of the car- she was sitting in the passenger seat) with the car door open. All of a sudden the headrest flew out and hit her in the head.

58 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2020

While driving in a straight line at about 35 mph through a city park, the driver head rest blew open and hit me in the back of the head. There was no accident of any kind or potential reason for it to blow open. It was a loud popping sound and strong blow to the back of my head. I stopped to access the situation and saw that the driver head rest had popped open. I called fiat Chrysler the next day to file a claim. They are in the process of having the vehicle repaired at their cost. I am still experiencing wip lash pain 3+ weeks later and plan of seeing a doctor ASAP.

59 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2020

I was driving on the highway when my headrest airbag deployed for no reason. It smacked me in the back of the head. There was no impact from my vehicle hitting anything & no sudden braking. It popped and smacked me in the back of my head. I was on my cell phone at the time but it was sitting in my cup holder & I was using my airpods.

60 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2020

Front passenger seat headrest deployed while sitting in the seat. I was not hit at anytime.

61 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2020

I was sitting in the car in the parking lot and was about to start the car and all of sudden the driver headrest suddenly popped open. It smacked me in the head. There was no accident or nothing unusual to cause it to happen. I am hoping there is a recall on this problem and it gets fixed, it was not my fault at all. Thank you.

62 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2020

Headrest just popped out on drivers side. 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

63 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2020

Cant believe this happened to me in my 2015 Jeep srt also today! why does this defect go without a recall for all Jeep owners? while driving to drop my daughter off to her moms, my pregnant girlfriend gets smacked I the back of her head! startled her for a second and says shes still feels like shes got a headache from it. Thankfully this didnt happen while she was driving because that definitely could have resulted in an major accident causing injury or death! I am the second owner on this Jeep so I have no warranty! I inspected the headrest when I got home to find the plastic tabs that hold the metal rod from deploying the headrest are broken with the rod still in place like it never went off. Reading all these comments I certainly hope Jeep will accommodate repair without charge because this seems to have happened to many Jeep/Chrysler vehicles!.

64 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2020

While driving the headrest hit me in the back of the head. I was driving in town therefore was quickly able to stop my vehicle to see what had happened. The headrest was deployed. I drove it home to show my husband & he said there was an air bag that had deployed. Had I been driving any faster I could have very well wrecked my car, as I thought at 1st someone was in my back seat. I have been unable to find a recall on the headrest but have seen recalls on earlier years. Please advice me what to do about this. The Jeep dealership surely will replace the headrest? thank you.

65 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2019

Passenger seat head rest air bag deployed while sitting in garage.

66 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2019

I was driving and all of a sudden, my headrest smacks me in the back of my head. After looking at it after I parked, I found out the headrest is a restraint system that deployed. The plastic tabs that hold the headrest together were broken. So, after driving back home, I am pulling up to my garage and then the passenger headrest breaks too.

67 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2019

Passenger side headrest safety feature deployed at low speed. I was backing up in front of neighbor home on cul DE sac. Not involved in any collision or impact. This is on a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

68 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2019

Passenger headrest safety feature deployed overnight while the vehicle was parked inside our garage. The plastic on the inside of the headrest is broken and the headrest can not be reset.

69 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2019

Passenger seat head rest deployed for no reason. The vehicle was stationary over night in our garage. In the morning we discovered the deployed head rest.

70 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2019

I was driving home from work today 9/29/19 on a two lane road and was traveling around 40mph coming up to a red light when all of the sudden the active headrest on the drivers side deployed striking me in the back of the head with enough force it felt like a punch, this caused me to swerve and nearly rear end the car stopping in front of me. I have done some quick research on this issue and notice this is not a current recall nor an isolated incident. In my case this could have been life threatening had I not been able to keep control of the vehicle.
