38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2018

It was parked in the nero ellie, I was in a hurry and could not get the vehicle in park so I put it into neutral, went around back open the rear gate door, then closed it, then as I went to get back into the Jeep and open the door touched the steering wheel the vehicle started to move and I fell to the ground pinned between a garage and the door. After the vehicle had moved by me, running over my right shoe, it hit a building, and then I was able to swing my right leg into the compartment and put on the emergency brake. The vehicle stopped and to my amazement the shifter lever was in drive. Normally on this vehicle if you put it in neutral and get out, you must press the break and hit start to shift it into gear. I came within about one second of dying by being crushed between the garage in the wheels. At 64 I am seriously hurting tonight. In reading on the web I see I am not alone in this occurrence, please do something in the way of a recall as I would hate to see anyone hurt like I was. Thank you.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2018

I was driving my vehicle and it stalled out in the middle of a road in traffic. I steered to the left turn lane because there was no shoulder available. I put the vehicle in park. The ignition (push button) was still in the run position. I pushed the button and the ignition wouldn't turn off. I tried pushing it multiple times and the ignition still wouldn't turn off. I also tried holding it down. Nothing I did would turn the ignition off. The display screen was flashing a lot of different error messages including vehicle not in park. I had to have the vehicle towed to the dealership. I have a video of the ignition not shutting off when pushing the button.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2018

The transmission hesitates from stop before connecting. Every time I slow down to stop, the transmission seems to do a double downshift and it feels like I am getting hit from behind. Also, at times, there is a loud clunking sound when on an incline and putting vehicle into reverse. It has continually gotten worse over the course of 1 year. I took it for service and was told there was nothing wrong, but they updated the computer. Now, the problem is even worse. I am taking it back today to have it reevaluated.

I was driving straight down the highway during rush hour at a low rate of speed and my vehicle shut down. Traffic was bumper to bumper and I was only travelling at about 15 mph. I heard a ding and a message appeared on the dash display that said "place in p then shift to desired gear". I attempted to turn the wheel to coast to the shoulder and my steering wheel locked up. I was able to get over to the shoulder and turn my hazard lights on. I placed the vehicle in park, restarted and let idle for a minute. I proceeded to drive home without further incident.

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/29/2017

Very jerky/lunging shifting from 1st to 2nd gear and downshifting from 4th to 3rd. The dealership has already done the update but it did not correct or help the problem at all. It sometimes lunges me forwarded as if I've been rear ended. It mostly happens when the engine and transmission are cold, but I've never owned a vehicle that has such terrible shifting.

55 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2016

We purchased a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee on July 25th at crown Chrysler of dublin, ohio. During the test drive, the car failed to push start. After it started the salesperson advised he'd have it looked at, diagnosed, and fixed before purchase. Two days later the check engine light began appearing. After 3 cycles of starting and stopping the vehicle the light did not go off. I stopped into the dealership on Saturday morning and after waiting for 47 minutes the service manager was able to plug in a computer and determine there was an emissions leak. The earliest appt was the following Friday. On Sunday, after filling the tank with gas, it failed to push start after 11 attempts which indicates that the salesperson failed to have it looked at, diagnosed, and fixed as promised prior to the sale. I was given a loaner on Monday and found this website, plugged in the VIN and noticed there was a recall (s28) for it! I advised the dealer to have it fixed. The dealer stated "your vehicle wasn't made within the time frame for that recall so it isn't necessary" I called Chrysler cust service and they advised that it most certainly was and is mandated to be repaired. This entire situation is unsettling to say the least. We've had this vehicle for less than 10 days and there is little faith in the performance of this brand new vehicle and zero trust that the dealership will do the needful in diagnosing, fixing, and at the very least completing a mandated recall (s28) I fear that this vehicle is a lemon. Especially after reading the horror stories regarding transmissions, gear issues, and unresolved issues from other complaints. I will post an update when we are to be picking up the vehicle but for now we are not satisfied with the vehicle or crown dealership of dublin, ohio.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2016

Since leasing this Jeep in July of 2016 there have been multiple issues. The main code found several time is a loss of communication from the main computer to the rest of the auto. Code u220. Issues include 1) incorrect shifting, 2) incorrect "brake" warnings, 3) unavailability of bright lights in the auto or manual modes, 4) lane change/object sonar warnings not available (back into cement wall at night) 5) nonfunctional automatic windshield wipers 6) lack of communication between the Jeep and iphone 7) inability to turn Jeep off 8) when in cruise control if + pushed it doesn't go up just one or two mph's, it speeds up very quickly and doesn't stop and 9) issue with adjusting the air ride and . The bright lights were not available 50% of the time. I would take the Jeep in and they could not find a code, so they would tell me there was nothing to fix. Finally, a tech looked into the issue and found a star fix and implemented it. Now I have the availability of bright lights 90% of the time. I drove for two years with no bright lights for most of the time at night, on country roads, and even in the PA mountains at night with no other light distractions. . Within the last couple of months the Jeep has started to shift incorrectly. I will be driving in town on a flat road and the Jeep will shift into "off road" and the rpm's go up to 8. I have an available video of this. I also have a video of the Jeep's dash after it shifted to another drive where the rpms went up to 4 on a level city road. When taking the Jeep for the "brake" issue the tech could find no codes. I refused to drive the Jeep and it sat for almost three months. Finally, a star was implemented, however now the "brake" alarm goes off more frequently. In summary, it seems the main computer is not talking correctly to the rest of the auto and the errors are becoming more serious as time goes by.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2016

Takata recall brand new with only 800 miles. Day one, shifting seemed odd. Thought it needed break in time. Stopped, the vehicle will almost lunge, making it feel like someone rear ended you. Shifts hard up or down shifting - around 3rd gear. Today, 20mph was running 3000 rpms and wouldn't shift. I pulled into parking lot and shut vehicle off and restarted. The tranny light was on and did not go off but the shifting was normal - which is not normal. Afraid that I will be stuck in stop mode and get rear ended or the vehicle won't shift going on the highway and will cause an accident. Doesn't matter what the temp is outside or temp of vehicle. Shifting is a jerky motion. Haven't made the first payment and already headed to dealer. I spoke with salesman and he said he is having same issues with his new Jeep. It should be under warranty but I am not happy that I have a brand new vehicle and paid this much money for it and it already has issues - major if it is transmission.

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2016

The electronic gear shifter in this vehicle went from park to rolling down a hill. I was parked and proceeded to exit the vehicle when it started rolling backwards. I jumped back into the vehicle and hit my right knee on the steering wheel and dash board. To avoid hitting the pedestrians behind my vehicle and hitting the vehicle directly behind me. No warning that the vehicle was not parked when the drivers door was open. I contacted Chrysler regarding this faulty design and was issued a case.
