Because of the immediate thermal and fire risk, the dealership service department immediately grounded the vehicle on-site, stating it is completely unsafe to drive or park near structures. Stellantis/fca has failed to provide a timely remedy or replacement parts, leaving our vehicle stranded on a commercial lot. Furthermore, the manufacturer has refused to provide direct-billed alternative transportation, offering only an out-of-pocket rental reimbursement model. Because parts are delayed for several months, bankrolling thousands of dollars upfront for a rental vehicle is a massive financial burden that is completely unfeasible for our family. The dealership has also failed to provide physical or digital copies of the failed diagnostic paperwork or repair order. We are currently left with a grounded vehicle and no viable, safe transportation.
I am submitting this complaint regarding a serious safety-related failure involving my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe. I purchased the vehicle used with approximately 15,000 miles and was informed the previous owners leased it and rarely used it. At approximately 40,000 miles, despite completing all recalls in a timely manner, the vehicle experienced the exact type of hybrid system failure a recall was intended to prevent. The issue began when the hybrid system failed and left the vehicle unsafe to operate. Upon startup, only accessory power activated and the engine would not start. A full power cycle was required before the vehicle started. Immediately afterward, warnings appeared including "service hybrid system," "service charging system," "eab unavailable," "lane keep assist unavailable," "pedestrian braking unavailable," and "adaptive cruise control unavailable. " the check engine light illuminated and all hybrid modes became unavailable. Shifting became erratic and harsh. Downshifts from 2nd to 1st felt like sudden braking and caused me to hit my head on the steering wheel. During acceleration, the transmission slipped and shifted unpredictably. Fuel economy dropped from approximately 22 mpg in e-save mode to approximately 10 mpg at highway speeds. Diagnostic code p1e1d was retrieved and I was advised the vehicle was unsafe to drive. While driving to the dealership, the vehicle shut down twice while in motion. During both shutdowns, power steering and braking assistance were lost, posing an extreme risk to myself and others while moving the vehicle off a busy three-lane roadway. Dealership diagnostics determined one or both high-voltage battery systems failed and required replacement. Despite completed recalls, the issue still occurred. Parts were backordered over a month. I believe this failure and recall effectiveness warrant investigation due to the serious safety risks created by loss of propulsion, steering, and braking assistance while driving.
I, [xxx] was driving home from work on Friday, may 1st on [xxx] in [xxx] during heavy traffic when my vehicle suddenly shut off while traveling approximately 65–70 mph. I initially thought I may not have been pressing the accelerator hard enough, but the vehicle would not respond at all. I then looked at the dashboard and saw a message that said “push brake to start. ” at that moment I realized the vehicle had shut down completely while I was in active traffic. I had to coast across three lanes of traffic without any propulsion to reach the shoulder. During this time, I was nearly struck twice from behind because I could not maintain speed with surrounding traffic. Once I reached the shoulder, I was able to restart the vehicle. I was extremely shaken and frightened by the incident. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle again. I was very aware that I could have been seriously injured or killed, and I am thankful I was not struck. I am especially concerned about what could have happened if my grandchild had been in the vehicle with me. This incident occurred after a recall repair had already been performed in September 2025 related to powertrain/hybrid system issues. The failure appears to be the same or similar to the condition the recall was intended to correct. After restarting the vehicle, I drove cautiously to my husband’s workplace and left the vehicle parked. Since the incident, I have experienced ongoing anxiety and distress reliving what happened. This vehicle was intended to be a long-term purchase, and it is extremely concerning that it now appears unsafe to operate. This event represents a serious safety hazard. A sudden loss of propulsion at highway speeds without warning creates a high risk of crash, injury, or death. I am requesting that this issue be investigated, as the prior recall repair does not appear to have corrected the problem. I do not feel this vehicle is safe to operate. Hybrid battery system, still don't have heat after 2 years of car ownership. Not to mention the hybrid battery failure rate, I've driven several times and the vehicle will just have no power. I bring it to the dealership almost monthly and they always have some excuse. The vehicle's lane assist is also a hazard. I'll just be driving down highway and it'll just jerk the wheel randomly.
I received the following from the dealer when taking my car in for a suspension repair. Stellantis (Jeep) is trying to charge for software bug updates after warranty when the fixes were not available and also the without the fixes it could leave the car inoperable. Most of these should be covered as a safety/operational concern and should not be optional or charged for. "software update ,msmd,ttm,eps,idcm,bpcmcustomer pay$239. 33 causes 1. Software ijpdate msmd customers may experience the following: • memory seat does not save on profiles 1 or 2. • easy entry/exit functionality is inoperative. 2. Ttm customers may comment on one or more of the following: e if the vehicle is traveling at less than 5 kph (3 mph) and the brake pedal is pressed, then both turn lights will flash for two milliseconds. If the vehicle is traveling at less than s kph (3 mph) and one turn light is activated, then the opposite turn light will flash for 20 milliseconds 3. Idcm customer may also experience the following: 12 volt battery drain. E vehicle will not charge. " 4. Eps *customer may also experience the following: • a low frequency eps motor noise during low speed steering maneuvers which may be more noticeable at higher ambient and system temperatures. " 5. Bpcm customers may also experience one or more of the following: e "vehicle does not start. " • low 12v battery causing vehicle not to start. ".
This is the third time that my Jeep has completely shut off with no warning and in the middle of traffic. I am unable to turn on any hazard lights. The power goes completely out, and I am unable to put the car in neutral or anything to be safe. I have reported this issue in the past. The dealership is unable to figure out what is wrong and I keep trying to get this resolved before it turns out tragically. Please help me before I loss my life in this vehicle.

Known software glich known as "the italian bug" car switches to italian and disables fcw, paddle shifting and changes many features to metric, farenheit to celsius, psi to kpa, mph to kilometers, many features can be reset but not fcw and paddle shifting. It's unknown what other features get disabled but this all causes significant driver distraction trying to reset everything while driving as they are encountered. Jeep has multiple tsbs on this with no known permanent fix.

Vehicle recently had recall 68c completed. Was driving in electric mode on the highway at approximately 55mph. Upon pressing accelerator further to increase speed to pass another vehicle, I lost all electric power and the vehicle lost speed down to 40mph, despite accelerator pedal being pressed to the floor. Approx 3-5 seconds later, gas engine started, revved high, vehicle lunged forward to 65mph, continued to accelerate after releasing accelerator pedal, and was able to be slowed by pressing brake. This same situation was replicated 9 hours later on the same highway. Dealer claims this is "normal operation. ".
Randomly, and without warning, the instruments, gauges, and displays will switch into a language I do not speak or understand (italian). Coinciding with the switch to italian language, cluster and radio display settings revert back to default settings, auto door locks and paddle shifter becomes inoperative (with no menu to enable), pedestrian emergency brake (peb) lamp or forward collision warning (fcw) lamp turns on with no way to disable, units of measurement including speed, temperature, etc. All change, and many other random settings change as well. ***this is clearly a dangerous situation because of all the functions and gauges that change, and the fact it is difficult if not impossible to recover from this due to the language of the setting menus, and the complexity of discovering and navigating through all these changes. When this happens, even if one is able to wade through all the settings menus and change setting back, some items cannot be reset (like the fca off lamp). I have had this to the dealership 4 times to be fixed without success. Because this is dangerous (for settings/gauges/units to no longer be useful while driving), and it occurs randomly.

Travelling with my young daughter on the freeway at freeway speeds at 9pm (nighttime). The entire vehicle just shut down. Everything - completely dark. Steering went out. Brakes went out. I had to get the car to basically drift to a shoulder and slow down gradually in a spot where we would be safely out of the way of traffic. Again no brakes or steering and completely dead. Hazzard lights would not work. I had to get the car towed and get my daughter and all of our stuff out of the car on the freeway at night in the complete dark. Scary stuff. It's an expensive car and 2022 is the first model year of the grand wagoneer. I suspect based on my experience with this car that this model year will have these types of problems going forward. The car has had electrical issues from day 1 and its unsurprising this happened. What is surprising is just how dangerous the situation was when you were in it. It was a shocking experience.
While driving 30mph in town, the vehicle shut off. The engine quit, lost power steering, dash message said, “press brake and push button to start. ” conditions were: in e-save mode, the gas engine was running, battery level was <1%. We came to a stop, pushed the start button, the vehicle started and drove normally. The passenger recorded most of this on video. We did complete the related recall last November.
On 01/30/26, I delivered my vehicle to an authorized Jeep dealership for the third time in connection with safety recall 68c involving the hybrid battery system. The recall addresses a battery defect that carries risk of fire. This is the third occasion on which I have had to leave my vehicle with the dealership because the recall repair has not been successfully completed. During the most recent service appointment, the recall repair procedure failed. I was informed that the hybrid battery would require full replacement and that the vehicle could not be returned to me. The vehicle has remained at the dealership and out of service since that date. As of 02/16/26, I have not been provided with a confirmed estimated time of arrival for the replacement battery. The vehicle remains unusable pending completion of the recall repair. No loaner vehicle was provided when the vehicle was rendered inoperable due to the failed recall repair. I was therefore required to obtain a rental vehicle at my own expense in order to maintain transportation for work and daily obligations. On January 30, I received written authorization from Jeep customer care approving rental reimbursement at $60 per day and explicitly listing specific companies as acceptable providers. Based on that written authorization, I secured a rental vehicle within the approved rate. After incurring rental expenses, I was informed reimbursement would be limited to $25 per day due to the rental company I chose being categorized as a third-party provider, despite being specifically listed in the written approval. It is not feasible to obtain a comparable rental vehicle in my area at $25 per day. The reimbursement discrepancy remains unresolved. The vehicle remains out of service. I am continuing to incur rental expenses and will be responsible for paying the difference out of pocket despite having relied on written authorization.
Smoke set off smoke dector in garrage has a burning smell not plastic like metel and the car has a odor like nail polish on the inside. I am writing to provide an urgent update regarding my Jeep. Per our previous discussions, we had intended to coordinate a service visit to the concord dealership. However, as of today, Jan 27 2026 at approximately 2:29pm, the vehicle has experienced a catastrophic failure and is no longer safe to operate or store in an enclosed structure. The vehicle currently presents a severe fire hazard. While attempting to move it today, the following occurred: smoke and melting odor: the vehicle began emitting a strong odor of melting components. This was severe enough to trigger the heat and smoke detectors in my garage. Erratic electrical behavior: even with the ignition in the "off" position and the charging cable disconnected, the vehicle continues to make loud clicking and internal cycling noises. Total system failure: the dashboard displayed multiple critical errors, including “unable to detect key fob,” “service electric charging system,” and “hybrid system failure. ” loss of motive power: the vehicle entered "turtle mode" and repeatedly stalled, rendering it undrivable. Immediate requirements: given that this vehicle has already undergone three unsuccessful repair attempts and now poses a direct physical threat to my home and safety, I am requesting immediate instructions on how Chrysler intends to safely remove this vehicle from my property. I have documented the alarms, the error messages, and the sounds via video for your engineering team to review. Because of the fire risk, I will not attempt to start, charge, or drive the vehicle to the concord location (85 miles away). Please confirm receipt of this safety notification immediately and provide a plan for a tow and a final resolution regarding a buyback, as this vehicle is clearly non-conforming and hazardous. I would like to file a complaint against Jeep. I drive a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe with 16,000 miles. While driving to the store, the electronic parking brake engaged while driving. This caused braking system damage. Jeep / manufacturer are refusing to reimburse me. The total cost was: $9,129. 26. This effected the actuators, brake calipers, rear rotors, and brake pads. This is not normal wear and tear, however a safety-related defect.
The vehicle has experienced repeated electrical failures. On multiple occasions the vehicle would not start and lost all electrical power. The main electrical system appears to fail suddenly, causing the vehicle to become inoperable. The vehicle has been to the dealership multiple times for the same issue and was out of service for extended periods. This is a serious safety concern because the vehicle can completely shut down without warning.
On January 23, while driving, the vehicle suddenly shut down and stopped working without warning. I attempted to restart the vehicle several times, but it would not start. Smoke was coming from the engine area, and the vehicle was completely disabled on the road. I was stranded on the roadside until approximately 11:30 pm, waiting for a tow truck to arrive. The vehicle had to be towed and taken to the dealership. The dealership later confirmed that the engine wiring harness had burned and failed. The failed component is currently at the dealership and is available for inspection. This sudden shutdown created a serious safety risk to me and other drivers due to loss of power while driving. The issue was not caused by misuse or modifications. The vehicle has since been inspected by the dealership and a manufacturer (Chrysler) representative.
Turned on the car to the find the check engine light was on. Drive 5 minutes to my son’s school to pick him up. Turned the car off, then back on to see if maybe the check engine light would go off. Instead the check engine light, battery light and service hybrid charging system errors appeared on the dash. The car would not turn off and I was unable to put it in gear at all. It left me stranded. I called a tow truck and about 10 min before they were set to arrive I tried turning it off and on again and it started like normal (check engine light still on) drove 5 min home and it did it again in my driveway. Happened again when my husband started it to take a look. This happened to us one other time about 3 months after we bought the car. We’ve only had it 9 months. Both recalls have been completed. This is unacceptable.

The vehicle has abruptly lost power and shut down while driving. This has happened while pulling out to cross traffic at intersections which have nearly caused an accident from the vehicle abruptly losing power in the middle of the intersection. The emergency braking system has also activated without any obstructions in front of the vehicle resulting in vehicles behind me nearly hitting me. The vehicle's four wheel drive system has also been inoperable with no parts available from Jeep to remedy this specific issue.

My 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe was recalled in the summer/fall because the high voltage battery could catch fire. This is one of many recalls the car has endured (due to battery trouble) since I purchased it in 2022. I called the dealer as soon as I received the letter and was told that no parts were available and to check back later. I drained the electric battery and did not charge it after that. By mid-December, the check engine light came on (as it has done with other recalls). I took it to the dealer on January 6, 2026 and was told that they would order a part and do a software update in the meantime. Got the car back late January 7 and it wouldn't shift into gear properly when driving. Took it back January 8 and was given a loaner car. The part was supposed to arrive January 22 but has not shown up yet. The dealer has had my car for almost 2 months now. Called Jeep 2/2/26 and 2/23/26 and talked to recall department. Both times I was told there was nothing that could be done and I just have to wait it out. Also on 2/23/26 I called the number listed on the recall notice at 10:10 am mst and received the "office is closed" message. Had to call the main Jeep number that the dealer provided. Dealer says they can't do anything and Jeep says it's the dealer that has to call on the part. Meanwhile I'm in limbo in a rental.

How many recalls does one vehicle get in 2 years of ownership get before they take car back? this is the absolute worst vehicle I have ever owned at $64,100 price tag. We went through this battery recall last year at this time and could not use hybrid system for 5 months and had to park outside until recall was performed and god forbid you take grandkids anywhere in it, and with all the countless other problems that are so speratic they cannot fix. Recall number 95b, when weather was finally warm enough for them to perform the diagnostics on it, it was deemed okay. Now I get another recall for same thing and once again it is a fire hazard again and no fix is available according to recall info. So people are suppose to drive around in a $64,100 vehicle that could go on fire and cannot park in garage or use hybrid system for its intended use. Tonight s weather is suppose to be -10 degrees f in iowa and we keep having problems with the heater blowing cold air and have taken it to dealership for total of 10 days trying to figure this problem out with no resolve yet. When does someone finally say is enough is enough? they have had my Jeep in their dealership 34 days total not counting recalls trying to resolve why the power steering goes out and all safety devices are offline and nnobody can resolve these issues so it is a total crap shoot every time you start it up! the fire hazard thing really bothers me being a past fireman and nobody seems to care, just park your car away from flammable material and structure, are you kidding me! what happens when you have kids and grandkids in this car? somebody ha to help us! internet is flooded with these problems with Jeep 4xe. Please help us out of this situation because stellantis and dealerships do not care! you want your family riding this crap when heat does not work and windows fog over or start on fire while your driving or its sitting in driveway while you sleep? I tried to lemon law this last year so I have 70 plus docume.
Driving home and car had a sudden loss of power randomly while driving. It would not restart until 5-10 minutes later despite multiple start/stop attempts. On the screen it stated to “plug in to condition battery. ” we were in the left lane on a busy road with construction and were almost rear ended multiple times while car was not functional. Have had multiple issues with battery on this 4xe - did recent software update at dealer. I have taken it to dealer previously for battery code (service battery) and they stated they can see code, but unsure of what problem is. No warning lights prior to incident. It sounds like through reviewing on internet this is a common problem with 4xe vehicles and if it hasn’t killed someone yet, it certainly will. We did call 911 for assistance due to the vehicle being disabled in middle of highway, but no official report was made.
Yesterday, I had been traveling on the turnpike and was attempting to merge back on from a rest area when the Jeep entered "turtle" or "limp" mode without warning, indicating a failure of the hybrid system. The speed dropped instantly to 2mph and the engine kept revving, generating dark exhaust and a concerning smell (hot, different from regular vehicle exhaust smell). Eventually I was able to move back into the parking area and needed to be towed. I have yet to have it evaluated by a dealership as they are closed today. Following multiple previous hybrid system recalls since purchasing the vehicle oct 2022, I've experienced numerous malfunctions of the hybrid system (taking it to the dealership multiple times to be evaluated after the "wrench" service hybrid electric system warning showed) over the last 6 months. Each time I've been told a "software reset fixed it" by the dealership. The problems with this hybrid system have been increasing in severity. Currently two recalls are in place due to these hybrid system issues (remedy not available). This was a scary, dangerous experience and I have no confidence in stellantis resolving this issue.
