36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2025

As I was driving in a parking lot, the service hybrid error popped up and then suddenly the vehicle was showing to press brake & hit start button. The vehicle began slowing down and even while pressing the gas the vehicle wouldn’t do anything. I was able to coast into an empty part of the parking lot. The vehicle then wouldn’t go into park. The emergency brake engaged without me doing anything. Then it kept telling me to press brake & hit start button but it wouldn’t do anything. The veg hole seemed to be on. But acted as if it was off. I sat disabled in the parking lot for 5-10 minutes before it would turn back on and let me resume normal activities.

The contact owned a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked under the carport, a loud bang was heard coming from outside. The contact's husband was inside the residence in the back room when the abnormal sound was heard. The contact's husband did not go outside to check the origin of the sound until a second abnormal bang could be heard coming from outside. The contact's husband went to check the sound and noticed that the front section of the residence was on fire. The contact called the emergency number, and the police and fire department were dispatched. The fire destroyed the residence and burned a vehicle that was parked in the backyard. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire. The contact's husband inhaled smoke and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The contact's cat perished in the fire. A police report and a fire department report were filed. The fire marshal was called to the residence. The vehicles were consumed by the fire and destroyed. The contact's vehicle was left at the residence since it was not insured. The contact notified the insurance company, and the vehicle parked in the backyard was towed by the insurance company to an unknown location. Per the fire marshal, the origin of the fire was the engine. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact notified the insurance company. The failure mileage was approximately 27,000.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2025

The contact owns a 2023 Jeep grand wagoneer. The contact stated while his wife was driving approximately 65 mph on the highway, the vehicle lost motive power and shut off. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the thermostat had failed causing the engine to overheat. The contact was informed that the valve inside the thermostat had bind, causing improper internal operation of the thermostat. The thermostat was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The contact was informed that per TSB: 09-006-25, the same style thermostat was installed to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 17,500.

The contact stated that while his wife was driving 70 mph, the temperature gauge rose extremely high, with the message “engine overheating” displayed on the instrument panel and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact’s wife pulled over and parked the vehicle while awaiting tow truck service. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 21,722.

40 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2025

Vehicle loses power and warning lights come on “maintenance on the hybrid system”. A little red wrench appears down the lower left corner. It all goes away after about a minute and a half vehicle only loses power for a brief moment.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2025

While driving my 2023 grand wagoneer the serv 4wd light and dash spelled out service four wheel drive, it lit up the anti collision light, ecs, tcs, and hold!. The parking brake also engaged automatically while driving at least 4 times. This is a serious safety concern to allow a vehicle to continue driving with the ability to automatically engage the parking brake while driving. The safety of my entire family was put at risk. I currently have the vehicle sitting at the dealership to be diagnosed and reproduced as the vehicle lost all power after this incident. Another serious safety concern is the total loss of power with no notice. This could easily have been while I was driving and caused a serious accident and possible fatalities.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2025

My 2023 Jeep gc overland 4xe was at the Jeep service center for the same issue in a week. I get a service throttle control warning, cel, then every warning light on the dashboard lit up. It happened on my driveway the other day and I would not drive. I had Jeep roadside tow it to a Jeep service center. On 7/9/2025 I picked up the Jeep. Service tec said no open recalls, no software updates and the throttle body module was reprogrammed. A 14-mile test drive was done and the codes did not return. Shortly after pickup, while driving at 65 mph on the thruway, I got the same error message, service throttle control along with a check engine light and all warning lights again lit up. The Jeep displayed a reduced power warning, and many other warning but I didn’t have time to look at the dashboard. The vehicle slowed to a crawl in limp mode at 23 mph, the steering became very heavy and slow to respond. I was able to quickly move over to the shoulder, and I was almost rear ended by a tracker trailer. I got off the thruway, shut the engine off, then back on and was able to get full power back. I immediately drove it to the dealership service center. This is not safe vehicle to be in and there are many other reports of this happening.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2025

While driving, the vehicle sends a message that the automatic cruise control has shut down, the car starts slowing down and doesn't respond to pressing on the gas. Only recourse is to move off to the side of the road, shut everything down and turn it back on. The batteries show two miles left on the electric system. This is the second occurrence. Both have occurred at highway speed.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2025

This vehicle continues to have electrical issues which effects the drivability. For the current service visit, the vehicle was taken in due to “shut down” or “shudder off” as if the car had completely been downshifted and lost power while in full drive mode causing a driving interruption. This driving interruption causes a concern for safety. As of today, the vehicle has been in the service department for 56 days. Red wrench appears each time with "service hybrid system", check engine light. Discussions with service department: "no definitive fix" . . •b273c-00 meaning: (one of the codes) the code specifically points to an issue with the digital crash input, meaning the vehicle's computer is detecting a "crash" event, even when one hasn't occurred. •4xe specific: this code is frequently seen on Jeep 4xe models, likely due to the complexity of the hybrid system and its interaction with the orc.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2025

The vehicle is a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid SUV. While driving in heavy traffic on a 45 mph road, the vehicle suddenly lost propulsion, with the dash lighting up with a large "service hybrid system" warning. After several seconds of no response, with traffic trying to work its way around my stalled SUV, the vehicle began to move again, albeit very slowly, just enough to limp it to a side street. After another 30 seconds or so, the problem cleared itself and the vehicle returned to a normal state of propulsion. I took the car to the dealer where I left it for more than a week. Apparently this is a known issue, and a code appeared (b273c-00, digital crash input), but they were not able to replicate the issue while they had the vehicle and so they just reset the code. The automaker is also aware of this problem, but doesn't deem it severe enough to issue a warning to customers or provide alternative transportation while a fix is developed. The dealer's advice is to let them know when it happens again. At this point, I don't feel the vehicle is safe to drive, and it will remain parked until a fix is available.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2025

I was traveling on the highway at highway speed during peak commuting times when a notice to service hybrid system was displayed on the gauge cluster. The vehicle then lost all acceleration and shut down. I had to safely navigate to the side of the road with zero ability to accelerate or brake in fear of not being able to get off the roadway safely. I was automatically shifted into park once I reached a speed of around 5 mph.

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2025

Vehicle wouldn’t go into gear June 2025 was towed due to service engine, abs braking error, service hybrid error. Messages were cleared and declared “no fix” wait for stellantis update. 7/2025 vehicle service hybrid went on, vehicle lost acceleration when turning onto road. Customer states serive hybrid light turns on and the vehicle is losing power on and off verified concern, code b273c-00, documentation from Jeep this issue, it is a known issue with no repair available at this time, it is not recommended to park the vehicle inside until a repair can be performed warranty courtesy vehicle inspection section: see attached know your vehicle report for inspection results warranty claim type:.

48 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2025

In February 2025, my Jeep would flash a “service hybrid system” code that would last about 3-5 seconds and disappear. This happened about 4-5 times over the next few months, code would not stay up and vehicle seemed unaffected. On June 10, I was driving with son on a highway about 60 mph when my car completely shut off, no power to engine, no power steering- absolutely nothing. We experienced a very aggressive jerk when this happened and I limped the vehicle off to the shoulder- we live in a remote area and I had no cell service. I was able to restart my car and drove it in “e-save” mode home. The next day, I drove my car again and had my son and daughter in the vehicle and the same exact thing happened. I was driving about 55mph around a corner with a large semi coming at me in the oncoming lane and my vehicle shut off and lost power and power steering. I was terrified that I would veer into that truck and there was not a shoulder readily available. We had to yet again limp the vehicle a few yards around the corner to pull off and I did not have service. So I had to walk to call my husband to pick my children up. The car has been at the dealership since then and told there is a digital crash code showing with no eta on a fix. Stellantis has denied a buyback yet my car has 26,000 miles on it and is under warranty with no eta on fix. Vehicle is unsafe to drive and unfixable for 60 days now.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2025

Hybrid electric system warning light on while driving with my family on the highway, difficulty with the rear seat headrests, fresh engine oil residue on the underbody. On two occasions, the vehicle remained on and was unresponsive, and all the lights on the dashboard came on, displaying lights and warnings for faults in the hybrid system and battery. It didn't respond when I tried to turn it off. As this may put my safety and that of my family at risk.

50 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2025

I was driving my Jeep Grand Cherokee 2023 at night on the 580 freeway in northern California. Was traveling about 65 mph. When the vehicle lost all power. I was barely able to pull off to the right shoulder still was partially in the right most lane. After multiple attempts of restart the vehicle, it did restart after about 10 minutes. I’ve taken the vehicle in to the nearest dealership on a flatbed truck. It has been there since the beginning of June. Jeep is unable to repair the vehicle sighting a software update needed for the hybrid system that they have not released yet. This problem will apply to any 4xe vehicle by Jeep. Vehicle is not safe to operate on public roads. Jeep does not seem interested in accelerating the fix. I’ve been waiting nearly 3 1/2 months.

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2025

Had 60 miles to empty of gas and slowed down while entering a turn lane. All the electronics flashed a few times, forced the car into park (while moving) and then would not turn on to drive. Music continued to play, car would not turn off or restart, ac stopped working, and was unable to shift into neutral to get out of the road. Was almost hit by multiple cars getting into the turning lane expecting me to drive like everyone in front of me.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2025

The vehicle has been regularly throwing an error saying service hybrid system and having a massive stutter in power while the hybrid motor shuts off and the engine is started to try and take over immediately. The vehicle has been in the shop for this previously, only to be returned to me saying they don’t have a fix for the problem and to continue to drive it. This happened again at highway speed and caused a near immediate loss of 10-15 miles per hour and were it not for evasive driving on my part and the other car, would have caused an accident. This powertrain has major issues that continue to happen.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2025

My 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid electric vehicle is subject to multiple NHTSA safety recalls involving loss of propulsion and vehicle fire risk. These defects have created ongoing safety hazards and extended loss of use. Safety recall 73c (NHTSA 25v-576) addresses a hybrid control processor software defect that may cause sudden and unexpected loss of drive power without warning, increasing the risk of a crash. Safety recall 78c (NHTSA 25v-766) involves potential contamination of the 2. 0l engine from the casting process, which may result in catastrophic engine failure, vehicle fire, and unrecoverable loss of drive power. For an extended period, no remedy was available. Safety recall 68c (NHTSA 25v-741) involves a high voltage battery defect that may lead to a vehicle fire. Fca instructed owners not to recharge the vehicle and to park away from structures or other vehicles. I have been unable to safely charge the vehicle for over six months and have been restricted from using my assigned covered parking due to fire risk. Despite multiple dealership visits for recall-related service, the vehicle has not been fully restored to safe, normal operation. No loaner or substitute transportation has been provided during safety-related repairs. These conditions significantly impair the safety, use, and value of the vehicle and create ongoing risk to occupants and surrounding property. I am submitting this complaint to document the safety issues and extended lack of an effective remedy.

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2025

When my plug-in hybrid vehicle’s service engine light came on, an authorized Jeep dealership diagnosed and fixed the electric coolant heater then also performed a software up to address the recall 95b/NHTSA 24v-720. In less than 2 weeks, my vehicle flagged a hybrid system error code “b273c. ” the Jeep dealership immediately impounded my vehicle per the regional stellantis technical team’s orders. My vehicle has been held at the dealership for over a month with no repairs or timeline for when a repair will be available. It’s unacceptable for a custom built fully paid off vehicle (2023 jgc 4xe summit) to become such a huge liability and poorly reflects on the Jeep/stellantis brand. There has been no support from their case management team and no urgency/ timeline provided for when this issue will be resolved. When manufacturing defects result in making a vehicle un-driveable, the manufacturer should prioritize finding a solution and provide customers with a rental of equitable quality to ensure the Jeep brand experience is maintained. Most importantly, for a vehicle that is only 2 years old, it is concerning from a safety perspective that it has had so many issues with the hybrid system for which the manufacturer has no solutions available.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2025

Below is the letter I sent to stellantis. I am writing to file an urgent and formal complaint regarding ongoing, severe safety and functionality issues with my Jeep 4xe , leased through stellantis financial. These issues have not only rendered the vehicle unreliable, but they have also endangered my life, the lives of my children, and the public-particularly as I work in an elementary school setting where safety is paramount. Most alarmingly, my Jeep 4xe recently reversed on its own at an accelerated speed without input, and would not stop until I prompted the brakes repeatedly. Had a child or pedestrian been behind the vehicle, the incident could've resulted in severe injury or death. As a parent and educator, this experience was traumatizing and has left me fearful of operating the vehicle in any public or residential space. Additionally, my vehicle frequently enters "turtle mode" (reduced power mode) without warning, significantly increasing my risk of being rear- ended in traffic. This unpredictability is unacceptable for any vehicle-especially one marked as a safe, family-friendly hybrid. These critical safety failures began shortly after the recall involving the vehicle's battery. Since then I've experienced: *multiple simultaneous sensor malfunctions *reduced driving speeds and performance *inability to charge the vehicle on a professionally installed level 2 charger *recurring shop visits without permanent resolution while earlier issues were inconvenient, they pale in comparison to the dangerous and erratic behavior of the vehicle now. Despite repeated attempts by service technicians to address these problems, each "fix" is followed by a new or recurring issue. This pattern shows that the vehicle is fundamentally flawed and no longer safe to operate.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2025

Car was recalled 95b. Recall completed in 1/25. Engine light 2/19/25. Car was held until 5/12/25. Had to trade car in for a lost of 6k dollars.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2025

We leased a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe in June 2023, and since that time the vehicle has been a chronic source of mechanical and electrical failure. Over the past two years, it has been in for service 11 times, spending more than 115 total days in the shop, with at least 9 repeat issues—largely related to high-voltage interference and hybrid system instability, from our research. The problems began before we ever took possession, with a service record at just 12 miles on the odometer showing a repair to the integrated dual charging module (1890169a). Since then, we've experienced a cascade of issues affecting sensors, control modules, cameras, switches, and critical vehicle systems—many of which appear to stem from electromagnetic interference (emi) related to the hybrid platform. Key repairs have included: park assist and adas control modules (09/28/23) reprogramming of multiple modules (backup camera, backup sensors) (01/25/24) backup view camera replacement (02/16/24) fuel system pump and lighting issues (04/05/24) high-voltage recall 95b, battery coolant pump, wiring harness, battery fire risk & issue (01/30–04/01/25) the final straw came on 05/09/2025, when—while driving 70 mph on the freeway—the vehicle suddenly shut off without warning. We lost all acceleration and power, forcing us to drift to the shoulder in traffic. It took multiple restart attempts and a wait period before the vehicle became responsive again. This was not only terrifying—it was dangerous. The next day, the Jeep dealer where the vehicle was purchased, picked up our car, and we’ve received no update on its status. It is currently undrivable, and we fear it’s unsafe. We previously filed for arbitration for with ncds (March 2023), which was denied. The situation has deteriorated significantly since then, and we are now filing a second arbitration, alongside this formal NHTSA safety complaint. Certified letters sent to the manufacturer earlier this year have gone unanswered.

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2025

Monday 4/28, as I was driving at approx. 35-38 mph the vehicle came to an abrupt and hard stop, like someone just pounded on the brakes, the engine ceased running. A large red wrench looking icon and something about the battery flashed very quickly on the screen. After a matter of time (please note this was very frightening,, and am unsure of the elapsed time) the car restarted and I continued very slowly to a corner where I could pull off the road and contact the dealership. At the rate of speed I was traveling I was forcefully slammed into the steering wheel, there were cars behind me and in the adjacent lane. My dog in the rear compartment and in her kennel was also forcefully thrown. This vehicle has had on going battery issues and many others as well. This is not the first report I have filed. Vehicle has been at the dealership for one week, I had to insist upon a loaner which they could not provide. Jeep has a program for a comparable vehicle which they set up and which has not provided a comparable auto. I have had no word from the dealership as to repair and issue found. The ongoing safety issues with this vehicle and it's battery system are totoally unacceptable for me. The Jeep has spent 3. 5 months from 10/14-mid 01/15 parked due to fire or explosion possibility. It has been in the shop repeatedly for up to two weeks at a time with heating and cooling issues. This latest is just another in a long stream of problems unaddressed proprerly by the Jeep corporation. As the vehicle is still in the shop at the dealership I have no items to download at this time.

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2025

On the highway from chicago to boston while driving 70 mph my car had lost all power. I was barely able to get car from left lane to right side of road. Truck almost hit us. We immediately reported incident to our dealership and their response was “we have nothing but problems bring the car in”. We were 300 miles away and they said there was nothing they can do. I restarted car and appeared normal. On way home outside chicago on highway at high speed we lost all power again. Started back up and returned home and called field dealership in glenview and Chrysler corporate. We brought car in and they have had it for week with no solution or phone call.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2025

There is a loss of power in the moment the propulsion changes from electric to gas followed by an error message to "service hybrid electrical system". Dealer inspected an found there is currently no remedy. Seems to be a known issue by now.

61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2025

While idling (vehicle running in electric mode) in park, for approximately 10 minutes we attempted to put the car in drive. The vehicle acted as if it needed to be turned on, displaying the message "press brake and push button to start" while also displaying a red battery light. Different warning messages came up showing traffic sign assist unavailable and others. We could not turn the vehicle off even with holding down the start/stop button, were unable to shift the vehicle either. Finally after ten minutes of pressing the start/stop button the vehicle finally shut off and we were able to restart it with no issues. The next week as I was driving, I would randomly get a warning light with a red wrench and a message that said service hybrid system. Both instances have happen two additional times. The vehicle is now sitting at the dealership and they are unable to diagnose the problem. This all has occurred after the 95b recall work was completed. This is a safety issue as the vehicle will not shut off and won't shift. So if the vehicle is parked inside of a garage and idles and then doesn't shut off that will lead to carbon monoxide leaking into the houses. Or being stranded somewhere unable to move your vehicle.

62 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2025

On multiple occasions my 2024 Grand Cherokee 4xe will flash "service hybrid system" and cut out while driving. Brakes, steering, and other functions are severely limited on these occurences. I have brought this issue up with the Jeep dealership every time the incident happens and they always ask if there are any lights on. No lights stay on, the engine and all systems just cut out. Tried contacting Jeep corporate help line and never get anywhere with them. I would like to turn the vehicle in, but they will not allow me to do so as they can never seem to find anything wrong with it, since it shows no codes.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2025

My cars dash had a lot of lights turn on and my car just shut off while I was driving I took my car to the dealership and was told that they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. About six weeks later my car just turned off again while I was driving but this time only the service hybrid light turned on and quickly turned off. I just called the dealership and will be dropping off my car again.

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2025

A couple months ago our check engine light came on. Through going to the dealership and a local mechanic we found out that it's an electrical issue as well as a safety issue. The wire connections have failed. This led to the grill shutters being forced open and if they close there will be no air going to the engine which will cause the engine to seize and/or a fire, which would lead to an accident and/or death. This isn't a safety recall at this point and this is a very big concern.

67 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2025

I am filing a formal safety complaint regarding my hybrid Jeep vehicle due to ongoing and unresolved safety issues that present a significant risk to myself and others. Since the beginning of ownership, I have experienced repeated and escalating problems with the vehicle, including: * hybrid system malfunction warnings and persistent red wrench indicator * aggressive and unsafe gear shifting while driving * vehicle stalling unexpectedly * vehicle intermittently failing to turn on or shut off properly in addition to these critical concerns, my vehicle has been under recall 68c since October 2025. To date, there has been no available remedy provided. I have been explicitly instructed not to park the vehicle in a garage or near structures and to avoid charging the vehicle due to an increased risk of fire. This situation has created significant hardship and safety concerns. I am unable to safely use or store my vehicle as intended. I have also been informed that potential fire damage related to this issue may not be covered by homeowners insurance, further increasing the risk and liability I am being forced to assume. Despite repeated attempts to address these issues through proper channels, including dealership service visits and manufacturer communication, no resolution has been provided. This vehicle poses a clear safety hazard due * risk of fire associated with the hybrid battery system * unpredictable stalling and drivetrain behavior while in operation * lack of manufacturer remedy for an active safety recall I am requesting immediate investigation, accountability, and corrective action to ensure the safety of consumers affected by this issue.

69 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2025

Vehicle shut down completely while in the left lane of the highway. Thankfully she was able to maneuver it to the shoulder and started it back up and continued on. At 4 am. Another four days later, the Jeep failed to start in the parking lot of work. Threw every code, including the "red wrench"- service hybrid electric vehicle system, check engine light and other others. We abandoned it in the parking lot and checked the next morning. It started on a whim still with every light on. We were able to get it to the dealership where it has been since January 24. When we went to pick it up today, they told us it was ready to go and it road tested good with no lights on. When we got in it to leave, the red wrench and check engine light went back on. They don't know what the problem is. This was replicated by the dealership and the invoice states: "vehicle will not move. Pushed into shop".

70 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2025

When accelerating at highway speeds there is a significant power lag when the vehicle switches from between the internal combustion engine (ice) and the electric motor causing deceleration in the vehicle. This is typically followed by a sudden surge in power causing rapid acceleration. This causes unpredictable speed and makes merging onto highway traffic difficult. When this issue occurs the "service hybrid electric vehicle system" warning lights illuminates. After several miles, the warning will turn off, but this occurs off and on when changing lanes, merging, or braking in heavy traffic. This typically only occurs at highway speeds when the vehicles transfers between ice and electric power frequently and has not been observed at normal city street speeds. The sporadic acceleration performance makes this vehicle dangerous to drive at highway speeds unless the electric motor is turn off. The car has been returned to the dealership numerous times to address this issue as it is still covered under warranty. However, they have informed us that "the code present in the car is currently under investigation by Chrysler. The Chrysler representative told us not to change any parts until Chrysler makes a decision on a potential recall. " despite repeated calls with stellantis / Jeep customer service who promised us to expedite parts to the dealership for resolution, we are stil left driving this unsafe vehicle. This problem arose within 48 hours of the battery recall maintenance being performed and has been recurring ever since the repair.
