2000 Grand Cherokee front brake rotors warping/failing due to manufacture defect. Just daily usage - brakes have been serviced once before, and are now going in for repair again. Jeep internal TSB's TSB 05-003-02b - front brake pulsation during light to moderate brake application describes this onoing issue- the vibration is so bad right now that loss of vehicle control is possibility. Next service to remedy problem is July 14,2005.

I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee with 68,000 miles and just had the brakes fixed again for the 6th time. My dealer keeps telling me the parts are inferior and I can expect to replace the brakes after 6-7000 miles. I feel this is excessive and Jeep should be able to develope a material that will help the brakes last longer. Other makes of cars never have the problem that Jeep does. I also feel this could be very dangerous since not every one can afford to replace the brakes every 7,000 miles. I can see by the internet that there are thousands of complaints, can't you do something before this is a fire, property damage or crash?.

My brakes were replaced at approx. 8,000 miles, 12,000, 18,000 and 25,000 I only drive the vehicle to work. The manufacture repaired it the times for free. I believe the vehicle should have come with a heavier braking system. I spent on 07/02/2005 about $450. 00 to repair the bakes myself. I was told by the dealer that the next brake job I would have to replace all four rotors.

13 months and a little over 13,000 miles after leasing my brand new 2004 Grand Cherokee, the steering wheel was shaking uncontrollably every time I'd I hit the brakes. I took the truck to the dealer and they said the rotors were defective, after a long discussion and many back and forth the svce. Manager at the dealer decided to replace the front rotors at no cost to me. Now 10 months later the problem returned. Went back to the dealer, but this time they tell me the rotors are damaged again, but I'll have to pay for the repair, which total cost is over $300. Now at 26,624 miles, they need to be replaced again, what's going on? after a friend of mine search the web, she found out that this is the same problem many 2004 Grand Cherokee owners have encountered. Is this a factory defect? even though Chrysler doesn't acknowledge it. Can rotors get damaged in such a short period of time, this is the second time I leased a Jeep, I never had this problem with my 2000 Jeep. Is anything being done about this?.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee - all four brake rotors warped at 20,000 miles of normal driving (no trailer, etc. ). Dealer machined the rotors. Suspect warping will occur again in less than 20,000 miles as less metal on rotors now. Dealer measured brake pads at 60% rear and 50% front, so those components seem ok. There is something in the design and/or manufacture of the brakes that causes warping. Fortunately, no accident.
Brakes developed vibration at highway speeds when trying to slow down. I am suspecting warped rotors which should not happen at 34000 miles.
Brake rotors warp approximately every 4,000-5,000 miles. The front brake rotors have been replaced 6 times under warranty and are ready for the 7th. The 1st time they were replaced, the calipers were replaced also under a TSB. Back brake rotors have been replaced twice - once at my cost & once under warranty. Dealer & manufacturer no longer wish to assist in remedying the problem. They seem to think they have replaced them enough times, even though the problem continues to occur. I've seen numerous complaints about this at this website. When is Chrysler going to be held accountable for the design defect?.
I read in the news today that the NHTSA is investigating the brakes on a
number of gm products. I wish that you had included Jeep Grand Cherokee
brakes for 1999 through 2004 models. The design is such that pulsation,
sometimes severe, occurs after 10k to 15k miles due to the rotors
warping. My dealer either resurfaces the existing rotors or replaces
them at no charge. In 1999 the dealer blamed the problem on a new design
and supplier problems. My 2004 model had to be taken in for pulsating
front brakes at 18,500 miles, and I was told that Chrysler was locked
into a contract with their supplier that they could not break, which is
why substandard parts continue to be supplied but replaced at no charge. For Chrysler to go through 5 model years knowing they were supplying
substandard brake components is inexcusable! the brake problem with
their 1999 model was an engineering and/or supplier problem. The brake
problem with the 2004 model is a senior management problem. Brake work d
one on my 1999 model and 2004 model was done exclusively by the local
Jeep dealer, and those records are in their system should you wish to
pursue this. The VIN number of the 1999 model, with which I experienced multiple brake problems was VIN 1j4gw68s8xc576847 and the 2004 model experiencing the same problem is VIN 1j8gw58n74c268518.

My 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee has once again burned up the brake rotors. The first time it happened I had only 10,507 miles on it. The dealership "machined" the front brake rotors. Within 6 months the problem was back and this time they replaced the front brake rotors. I now have 38000 miles on the vehicle and today was informed the front and back brake rotors are shot. Unfortunately, it appears I'm not the only victim of this debacle. I am taking my car to someone I can trust and I will have the rotors replaced. I intend to pursue this matter as I feel I have been ripped off and so have a lot of other people. This Grand Cherokee is an expensive vehicle and I find it disgraceful that chrylser has suceeded in ignoring the problem and ignoring the people who purchase their vehicles. Does there have to be loss of life to get anyone to act on behalf of the consumer??? please tell me, what do we do now???.
At approximately 14,000 miles, my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee began to pulse when I hit the brakes. This caused the whole car to shake and scared my wife, and my two young daughters. I took the car to the Jeep Chrysler dealership. They said the rotors had to be resurfaced. For a brand new car, I feel the rotors are defective. They should not need resurfacing so soon. They also claimed that nothing was wrong with the brake pads. This implied that I was hard on my brakes. I have driven a Ford, a Toyota, a SAAB, Mercury, BMW and other models. This has never happened before. I also found in my research that other people have had the same experience with the Jeep Grand Cherokee as I have-low mileage the rotors had to be resurfaced. I contacted the Jeep Chrysler company. They have refused to admit wrong doing. I feel this is a safety hazard due to a defective product. I would appreciate if ntsb would look into this matter.
I own a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee that experiances brake rotor wrapping about every 10 to 15k miles. This is a well documented problem, and there should be a recall placed on this component due to the sensitive nature of its effective operation.
Jeep gc 2002-had rotors, pads and calipers replaced at 12,660 miles because of violent shaking during braking on highways at speeds of over 40 mph, had to replace everything again at 23,989 miles and now at my own cost. Manager stated that the rotors were "blue" and that someone has been riding on the brakes all the time and that is why they are worped ("blue" from high temperature). That is not the case, I do regular driving in the city and on highway. Please investigate as I have found other Jeep owners with the same problems all over the united states on the Jeep internet forums.

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. In early December I was driving the vehicle when my engine light illuminated. I immediately called my mechanic, who happens to work for midas. He told me to bring it in right away. Because I live closer to midas than any Jeep dealer, and because of the service I have received in the past from Jeep/Chrysler, I took it to my mechanic. He advised me I had a blown head gasket. I received an estimate from him and he also advised me that the dealership would be considerably more expensive, I allowed him to repair the vehicle. After the repairs were complete, I talked to my mechanic and he advised me to contact Chrysler/Jeep and ask for reimbursement. Here in lies the complaint. When I contacted the dealership, bob dance Jeep in oralndo, I was told there was nothing they could do to help because it was my fault I drove the vehicle "hot". I explained the reasons I took it to my mechanic as opposed to the dealer and I was told so sorry. I then try to contact the warranty people for the vehicle. I was told I only had a 3year 36,000 mile warranty and that I wasn't able to do anything about it. The vehicle had 49,000 miles at the time of repair. I asked if I would be allowed to purchase an extended warranty and was rudely told no. This is only one example of the customer service I have received since purchasing this vehicle in July 2000. I have also replaced the transmission, two bateries, repaired the window which did not work and had the rotors cut three time. When I spoke to Chrysler headquarters, I was not surprised to receive the same response. I was told because the work was done by an independent garage, midas, I was not entitled to any type of reimbursement, period. I don"t trust Jeep/Chrysler. I don't want them working on my vehicle. Someone please help me!!.
2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 1. Cruise control kicks out when on the highway driving 2. Front end makes horrible noises when turning 3. Dash rattles 4. Had to replace brake linings and rotors at 7000 miles 5. Rear end howls 6. Transmission does not shift right.
Wrapped front rotors.
I have had to have the dealer replace/machine the front rotors every 8 - 10,000 miles since I purchased the the vehicle new in September, 1999.
Rotors and brakes. I have resurfaced my rotors once and now I am replacing them. I purchased the car new and it is now 12 months and 2 weeks old, much too soon for either of these repairs and replacements. The dealer tells me its my problem, not theirs. I am also having to replace the brake pads for the second time.
Vehicle vibrates excessively when brakes are applied from 40 to 70 mph. Rotors have been replaced at 5800,12500,&19900 miles. Dealers in FL. And nc have serviced vehicle under warranty, stating rotors are prematurely warped and therefore defective. Now at 30000 miles and vibrating again.
2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee brake problems. My Jeep has 45,000 on it and this will be my forth set of brakes. Dealer has covered the brake work while under warentee. But this has not solved the problem between 5000 to 10,000 I will have to have a brake job done.
Consumer called complaining while driving the vehicle at any speed and applied the brake, vehicle is shaking front and rear. Dealer has been notified and will replace rotors, brake pads, and caliper. Please provide further information. Ts.
Experienced vehicle vibration when applying brakes. The dealer told me it was not under warrenty and it had to do with driver's braking habits, but this is our second Grand Cherokee and never experienced this problem before. I had the rotors (two front) turned, but it is doing it again after 5 months. I took it in again, and they tell me the rotors (two front) need to be turned again. From all the complaints I see and hear about, it seems there is a problem with these vehicles.
Have noticed an uneven braking and shake in the front when brakes are applied. Took vehicle in for routine oil change and asked that the brakes be checked. Before they even looked at them the service person knew what the problem was. . . . Warped rotors. I asked if it was covered under warrenty and he said no. . . . . Extended warrenty and he said no. I told him that I didn't even have 30,000 miles on the car, it's only 1 1/2 years old and that I've had vehicles whose brakes lasted to 40,000 or 50,000 miles. He said he's seen these brakes go at 20,000! also told me that diamler/Chrysler knows they have a problem. . . . . Hmmmm funny how they don't cover brakes past 12 months/12,000 miles. Said that he'd put new brakes on that weren't factory installed for $400 when I get tired of the shimmering. . . . . And guarantee them for the life of my vehicle.
While applying pressure to my break pedal front wheels began shaking violently. Nearly lost control of vehicle while driving at high speed on expressway. Took vehicle to Jeep dealer and was told there is a product problem with front rotors, calipers and pads and that manufacturer has issued an upgrade kit. Dealer said he sees this on many, many Grand Cherokees. I had just had my pads replaced 14,000 before this incident. Jeep dealer could not work on my vehicle for a week so I had to have new rotors and pads put on by another repair facility. Called Chrysler-Jeep consumer hotline. Asked if they were aware of this problem and if they knew about the nhsta summary bulletin number. I was told if I persisted in seeking an answer to that question I would be disconnected. I asked again and was disconnected. What kind of stone walling is happening here? please check into this incident. I have read of other where rotor had broken off and caused wheel to lock up. Ts.

you implemented a recall that included 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokees in certain states. My question is why was delaware not included in this recall since you have practically every state surrounding delaware included? (ie. Maryland, new jersey, PA & NY.

We have had our Grand Cherokee since December, 2000 and have had to have the front brake rotors serviced five times in the first 29,000 miles of use. Daimler Chrysler contends that my wife's driving habits are the cause of the problems yet there are several service bulletins logged at the NHTSA site for this problem. Jeep's attempt to blame an obvious product defect on the driving habits of their customer is unethical and should be reported.
Brakes, starting: at 2900 mile wheels started to vibrate on braking. Turned front rotors. 7000+ miles same thing. Replaced rotors. 13000+ miles same thing. Rep[leced pads and rotors. 21000+miles same thing replaced calipers. (note) by this time I had had my wheels rotated 7 times in 21000 miles. (4) 17" michelin radials shot. At this point I replaced the tires with 600. 00 worth of goodyears. Goodyear checked the allignment. It was out. They repaired it as best as they could but said that I needed a partial ball joint. I went to Jeep since I thought that the ball joint would be under warranty. Yes it was but only if the car was out of allignment. Since goodyear had alligned it as best as they could to prevent uneven wear on the new tires. Jeep refused to repair the ball joint under warranty. They said I would have to pay 200+ or wait until it went out of alignmnet again. The gas tank has been off three time to repair a starting problem.
Bad steering vibration when braking at highway speed. Have only 36,000 miles and have repaired this problem 4 times now at the dealership since I bought Jeep new in 2000.
When putting on brakes, front end would shimmy and vibrate. Took to dealer and they changed rotors/ resurfaced rear rotors, and replaced shoes. Dealer keeps replacing defect with same fix, and problem keeps reoccurring. . The brakes fail every 10,000 miles. First two brake jobs were replaced under warranty. Consumer refused to pay for the third brake job. Dealer resurfaced rotors for free.
Front rotors become and stay warped after long (greater than 2 hr) trips. This has happened 3 times and each time the vehicle becomes unstable when brakes are applied and subsequently until the rotors pads and calipers are replaced. This is a real safety issue!!!.
I am on my 3rd set of brake rotors. I am anticipating another failure with this same part.
Water pump rear wheel bearings.
Left front brake rotor completely separated & shattered -right front rotor severly corroded -same as ea99-014.
