My 2001 Jeep cherokee Laredo front driver seat broke. It is extremely dangerous I have been trying to replace the seat and have been unable to find one. I was driving when the seat broke luckily I had both hands on the steering wheel tightly and sitting completely straight or I probably would have lost control of my car. It is so widespread that several different body shops and junk yards have told me they break so other they never can get one intact. I have looked for oem parts which is my first choice and have found this item not available it. The bracket under the seat is not very supportive and seems to be very poorly made(thin metal) I am not a mechanic but I grew up around several. I am still hoping to not have to give my Jeep up because I can't find a seat. We also own a 1998 Jeep cherokee limited and we have not had anywhere near the problems as we have had with the 2001 I seriously think the 2001-2003 were made poorly and Jeep needs to step up and accept it and recall the problem items. I have already had headlamp, tail light and the gas tank recalls corrected on my Jeep but next to the gas tanks blowing up in rear end collisions this is extremely dangerous and unacceptable. I have also by a private repair shop had the "Jeep death wobble corrected" which I had not heard about until another person at the shop who had the same year Jeep said I had this fixed about a year ago and he said if I really wanted to know how bad it was to google it after I did I didn't even want to drive my Jeep. I love my Jeep for many of its qualities but if I could afford to I would go get a different year Jeep. I did not know this site was here until my brother told me so I wonder how many others are out there with the same problems and have not reported it. I am glad it is here I will definitely research my next vehicle on this site, unfortunately I am disabled.

Diver's seat started breaking, a little at a time. The metal brackets are still good and in place, it is the frame of the seat. It leans back and to the left. It breaks more and more every time you sit in the seat, creaking when someone sits down in the seat. If the controls are set to have the seat pushed back for someone with long legs, the seat leans all the way back and down as if you purposely are trying to lay down. There was an initial loud pop when getting out in June as if something broke, but it didn't seem like anything feel off. The seat now has been getting worse.

Driver seat made slight bumping noise when moving seat back and forth on a daily basis for about a month. I was then involved in a very low impact accident where I was hit in the right front of my vehicle. At impact of collision the drivers seat completely sheared off of the bracket. This should never happen! I could have been seriously injured. Im now fighting with my insurance company to fix this seat. They are stating that it is not normal for a seat to break like this from a low impact collision. Apparently from everything I have read online it takes very little for these seats to break and they should have been recalled for a major safety issue.

1996 Jeep grand cherokee - driver's side seat broke completely. . . To the point it cannot me moved forwards or backwards. So it strains any driver's back if driving longer than 5-10 minutes. One has to literally hold and puch themselves up to sit upright and drive. Need recall, please.

Seat track broke and seat is only practically attached. Impact from another veh, or sudden stop will cause a total failure of seat. I am now in the process of trying to get this repaired.
2. Bracket on driver's seat broke unexpectedly causing driver instability and hindering safety. 3. Body shop will attempt to weld bracket (cost estimate $150); however, we are unsure if this will remedy the problem.
Front seat broke off - no accident, just everyday use.
I have owned my 2000 Jeep grand cherokee Laredo for almost 9 nine years. Almost a year ago, the drivers-side seat began to wobble. At first, it was more of an inconvenience. However, soon it became apparent that the seat was really coming off of the base. About a month ago, I took it to southpoint Chrysler Jeep in austin, texas in order for the seat to be fixed. Before taking it to the dealership, I removed the seat from the base and noticed that where the seat was affixed to the base, the metal had sheared off, rendering the bolts useless. . Read more...
Driver seat is broke the tracks are good but the seat frame is split and leans to the right side, the seat mounts are broken. The seat rocks, luckily no injuries have been caused. Tried to find a seat went to a local salvage yard and was told many people have been looking for the Jeep driver seats , state wide. If Chrysler doesn't address this problem soon I am quite sure there will be some law suits. I love my Jeep, it has been faithful to me since I bought her. She has 166,070miles on her and have no signs of giving up.

I own a 2000 Jeep grand cherokee. The drivers side seat connection to frame has broken from seat frame creating dangerous shift of seat while driving vehicle. I have heard of similar seat separation on this vehicle.
Driver's seat where it mounts to the movable rails is broken. Repeated calls to various used part dealers shows that there is a problem with this. Apparently at around 60,000 miles or so the seat breaks. This is a safety problem in that the seat can come loose during normal driving, or during an accident causing loss of control, serious injury, or death.
The drivers side seat frame broke and the seat rocks back and forth.
Front seat broke while driving down the road.
