10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2015

I keep my car parked in an enclosed garage when it is not being driven. One morning, I went into the garage to drive my car to work. I used my remote to open my car door. I then noticed that the backseat passenger window, immediately behind the driver side was rolled down. I know I had not rolled it down. I got in the car and pushed on the button to raise the window. The window rattled and groaned with an electrical sound. I looked at the window - it had not rolled up. I had to get to work, so I drove my car with the window in that shape. When I got to work I asked a CO-worker to help me tape it up. So then, my window was manually pushed up by two people trying to push it up from the inside and the outside. Then tape was applied to the window to hold it up, but it started to slip down. So the person who was first helping put a piece of cardboard on the inside part of the window, saying that would prevent it from falling down. It worked for awhile, but then the cardboard slipped down into the window. So then, I found two bigger pieces of cardboard to hold it in the closed position and we taped some more. It is now taped up and so far is holding, but as rain may come, it will probably fall again. I called Jeep and asked how this could be repaired. They told me it would cost about $400. I don't have a spare $400 to spend on a car that has had a massive number of problems and has cost me thousands of dollars in repairs over the year. Then the next thing that happened was that the front driver-side hubcab disappeared - this is never ending trouble with this car. The car has been a problem from the beginning. I told Jeep early on - they would do nothing to help or exchange it for a car without problems. This vehicle is terrible, and the dealership is even worse.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2015

I was pulling out of my driveway and the car just shut completely off and I was stuck in the middle of the road. About 10 mins later, it started back up again and drove normally. This is not safe at all and if I was driving on the road, I could have died. I'm scared to drive this car now and I can't afford to go to a mechanic and pay thousands of dollars. From looking online, this is a recurring problem with this car. There should be a recall on this issue. Someone can really lose their life over this.

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2014

I was driving my vehicle down the highway when my vehicle made a loud popping sound that sounded like it came through the stereo system. I noticed all power to my car went out. The radio, lights, dash, headlights, everything shut off. I went and tried everything. I thought maybe a fuse had blown, not the case. I replaced head lamps, and the lights still didnt work. I changed my steering switch out and have since figured out it must be an electrical issue? I have read many many pages about people with this same issue or very similar. I can no longer drive the vehicle at this time because I dont feel safe in it and its not street safe.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

The lock motor/linkage for the rear swing door stopped working. This in and of itself isn't a big deal but apparently every time I clicked the key fob to unlock vehicle for entry the malfunctioned lock motor caused battery drainage. In just a month a brand new battery was completely dead and couldn't hold a charge. I am lucky that I was only stranded a mile from home. There seems to be hundreds of people with the same issue and some people have had it cause more than battery drainage. Electrical fires ensued.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2012

My 2002 Jeep Liberty was bought brand new from the dealer. About two months ago I was driving on the highway when all of a sudden the dashboard turned off and then turned back on, then my car started shaking like it was about to stall, and the engine light started to blink. I got scared because I didn't want my engine to stall and break down in the middle of the highway since it can be very dangerous, so I got off the highway and parked it in a lot over night so that I could take it straight to the dealer the next day. I took it to the dealer very carefully, my car started over heating when it was sitting in place/ traffic for more than one minute, and then it would cool back down when it was moving. Finally at the dealer they changed the water pump, thermostat, and one of the coils. The dealership said the problem was fixed and sent me off. Within that week my car started acting up again, the engine light began to flash again and I noticed my car was still being jumpy. I took it back and it turns out it had blown head gaskets, not only that but the heads were not even repairable. I need a complete new engine. I looked online and have found that it is very common for Jeep Liberty's to have a major engine problem. There is obviously something wrong with the way Jeep builds their engines. There needs to be a recall, it is a defect in the Liberty's. There have been multiple complaints of Jeep engines breaking down with no signs. Also as a side note, the seat belt on the drivers side doesn't really click and sometimes un buckles on its own. There is also an electrical problem, the inside lights turn off and on all the time by themselves.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2012

Passenger side headlamp won't come on at all now and interior lights continue to flicker. While pulling into my driveway, passenger side front tire completely separated from the vehicle, leaving me speechless. We have been the only owners of this vehicle and weren't notified of any recalls. Hoping we can get this repaired soon. . . . . .

33 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2012

After lots of tries and no help from Jeep, I am trying to find help with a problem with an speed sensor that is not working properly. Apparently there is a problem with the routing of these wires causing them to rub, short out and it causes the sensor to quit, and anything options running off this sensor (example tranny shift points causing the torque converter to not unlock and causing stalling of vehicle).

34 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2011

Air bag light is coming on randomly. No pattern of any kind.

35 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2010

Headlights switch off without intermittently, without command, at random intervals when driving. Appears to occur in conjunction with, or shortly after, using the turn signal. Nothing has yet been done to correct the failure, though I am told the problem is caused by a defective multifunction turn stalk.
