1 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2020

I had just gotten off the highway and took the wrong turn so in the middle of the street I tried to whip a uturn and when I turned my wheel to the left I heard a loud crack and my vehicle was unlevel so I asked my passenger to see if we had blown a tire and he said it looked fine but I got out and looked and saw that the whole entire wheel assembly fell off. I had brake fluid draining in the street and there was the piece (control arm) that was snapped in half leaving my car stuck and broken .

About a month ago I was coming up the mountain and it was hard to stere and it made me hit a gard rail on the other side of the road and then about a week ago I was going to town and I stopped at the store to get gas and turn it off and it would not start back so I don't no what is wrong.

I drove for about an hour on a steep mountain road. Sometimes using the overdrive to go up steep grades. The cruise control would not work. I made it to town and was on the main road stopped in traffic. Suddenly, the rpms raced and the Jeep accelerated on its own. I had my foot on the brake, but had to put it in park to stop it, but not before it hit then truck in front of me. I was shaken up and checked the floor mat to make sure it was not touching the gas pedal. It was not.

Was going down a hill. Didn't notice a stop sign. Tried to stop but couldn't in time. Took the corner and hit a tree with my passenger front corner and the Jeep flipped on its side. Smashed my face on the steering wheel shattering my jaw due to airbags not going off and seatbelts not locking. Needed immediate surgery. They had to smash the front window to get me out of the vehicle.

6 Body problem

7 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2017

Two concerns - the first being safety related. There is metal grinding noise when braking. All speeds - slow or fast, and in all "drives", two wheel or four wheel drive. No mechanics I have visited have been able to diagnose it. There are hundreds of other Jeep Liberty owners experiencing the same problem. I have spoken in person with several and read hundreds of complaints online of the same thing. Secondly, three of my windows have now failed to operate. Also a widespread Jeep Liberty issue with a piece in the lifting mechanism. The motors are operating just fine, but there is a piece inside the door that breaks and the windows fail to open or close thereafter. Sometimes, a lifting mechanism spring-looking piece grinds upwards into the cabin of the vehicle when the "broken" window mechanisms are accidentally activated. Also concerned these spring mechanisms could snap in the cabin and cause extreme harm.

8 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2017

Fuel tank straps rotted & broke off.

9 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2015

While driving, the sunroof motor assembly suffered a catastrophic failure while closing. The plastic rail assembly made a loud cracking sound and the glass wedged firmly against the roof, half open. This occured shortly after my replacing all 4 door window regulators (for the second time) due to what can only be described as negligence in the engineering design of the plastic carrier assembly that cannot support the load of the window as it is intended to. The failure to properly design these components has led to the windows falling into the door unexpectedly while driving, each time causing an unnerving distraction to me as a driver, and unnecessarily endangered myself and the general public in the vicinity when these events occurred. It appears there are countless instances of this issue being described on line, and a recall needs to occur.

20 Body problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2014

We received a recall for our 2004 Jeep Liberty. It is a safetly issue where these vehicles often ignite when rear-ended. We have been contacting the dealership since last August and they claim not to have the parts. We have notes on the number of times called and their various vague responses. I don't know if it is Jeeps shortcomings or the dealership, but they are each blaming one another. Meanwhile we are driving an unsafe vehicle. Is there anything else we can do? this seems to be quite a long response time.

28 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2014

On the 18th of January of 2014, I was driving back home on a rural road where the speed limit is 25mph and I was driving around 15 mph because the road doesn't have an adequate pavement, where there is alot of pot holes. My 2004 Jeep Liberty on a small hill, came to a sudden stop shutting all the system which turned the vehicle off. I attempted to turn the car back on, by turning the switch and it wouldn't turn on. I waited approximately 3 minutes when I saw a thick black smoke coming from the hood. I attempted to react quickly and saw that the doors were closed shut. I forced the door to open and ran quickly to the front of the vehicle. I lifted the hood and it was steaming hot that it burned my fingers, I then opened the hood and witnessed that the vehicle's motor was completely in smoke. I began to car 911 and stepped aside when flames started to come out from the motor. In less than 8 minutes the car was completely in fire. Both police and fire department assisted me during this tragic event. I have both reports to evidence the events that had occurred. I have attempted various times to contact Chrysler within my local area and have not received any return call from them, while they have indicated that they will send a inspector to verify the vehicle, I left all of my personal details and am still waiting for their visit. I have been waiting and I have continued to cal them in effort to have an inspector to verify my loss knowing that the car is still within the vehicle guaranteed, still I have not received any response after a two months of the incident. Here, I have not only suffered from material loss but also Chrysler in my area does not demonstrate corporate responsibility nor customer satisfaction or concern for their state of being.
