36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2012

37 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2011

For approximately 1yr, the headlights on my Jeep Liberty sport 2004 have been flickering on and off. It use to happen only once and awhile and they would go right back on and then stay on. However recently I have been unable to drive my Jeep at night because the headlights constantly go on and off on me and sometimes stay off.

38 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2011

For over two years, my headlights have flickered. Several instances are rapid fire, a few have been for several seconds. A relay type sound will indicate that it is clicking off and on as well. No interior lights are effected. I do not drive my Jeep at night, if at all possible. If I do, I travel as close to a tractor trailer, as I can safely get. I will not drive the car out of town anymore. I reported the issue to my dealer's service department, who claimed they have never heard of the problem.

39 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2010

All lights, (including headlamps), intermittently turn off. This has happened 3 times already, all at night while driving 65-70 mph on the highway. The first occurrence was around July, 2009. The last occurrence was last night, June 7, 2010. Nothing but pitch blackness when they went off. Had to try to steer car to side of road. If you turn the headlamp on/off a few times or jiggle the control it will turn on/off and then stay on. This is pretty dangerous. This is my daughter's car and I will not let her drive it anymore as a result.

40 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2010

Headlights intermittently flash on/off several times. I hear the relay clicking. This occurs one or two times every other day or so.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2009

My husband is a mechanic. He and his employer were trying to maneuver a 2004 Jeep Liberty into the work stall from the parking lot. The Jeep had a broken ball joint (a condition that they later found was under recall notice) and would not steer, so my husband was guiding it with a floor jack while his boss was behind the wheel, braking when necessary to help control forward momentum. The vehicle was idling. This is standard procedure, one carried out many times by both men. Both men have at least 25 years of experience each as auto mechanics. There is a lip just at the door of the shop to prevent water from coming in, and when the Jeep came to this lip, the vehicle tipped slightly, and the right front tire touched the ground. Instantly, the engine revved and the vehicle jumped forward at full power. The boss literally stood as hard as he could on the brake but to no effect. The vehicle left a long black skid line behind it where the back tires were trying to brake, but the front tires were continuing to accelerate. My husband was hit and dragged fifteen feet then crushed against an upright support. According to both mechanics, the front wheels should not have had power to them, since the vehicle was not in four-wheel drive and cannot put itself into four-wheel drive: a lever must be raised manually. My husband had to be life flighted to emmanuel hospital where he was diagnosed with a collapsed lung, broken nose, broken collarbone, nine broken ribs, and a broken ankle. He also suffered general crushing of most of his body. A broken left rib was diagnosed two weeks later. The Jeep was taken to a local Chrysler dealership for repair of the broken ball joint and the transmission pan, damaged in the accident.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2007

No warning. Efect as described by dealer involved a defective bcm, body control module. Peedometer, headlights, door locks, wipers, power windows, air conditioning would not work. Rear glass hatch opened and would not close/latch.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2006

Passenger side locks inoperable. When clicking remote keyless entry door locks would lock and unlock continuously for up to ten seconds. I feel this eventually led to the lock motor burning out.

44 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2006

: the contact stated the vehicle was taken to the service dealer about a year ago because there was a slight vibration in the front end. The dealer inspected the vehicle and determined the tires needed to be rotated. The vibration continued and progressively became worse. Today, while driving 30 mph the contact heard a loud grinding sound followed by the vehicle's failure to move forward. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but has not been inspected. Upon visual inspection, the contact noticed the lower ball joint was separated on the passenger side. Updated 7/3/2006 - the driver's side windshield wiper arm came loose twice. The wiper arm was realigned to factory specs and tightened to the correct torque setting. When the consumer used the turn signals while the headlights were on the headlights flickered. This is an intermittent occurrence. On another occasions the headlights remained on although the switch was turned off.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2003

While driving at 25 mph, the driver side air bag deployed for no logical reason. The consumer lost control of the vehicle and collided with an embankment. The vehicle never ran over anything or hit anything before the mishap. The consumer suffered a sprained wrist, a concussion and trauma to his back. The consumer also reported that before the air bag deployed, that electrical currents from the steering wheel were shocking who ever drove the vehicle. This electrical shock has happened on three different occasions and the dealer has tried to find the source. The manufacturer and the dealer were aware problem. Headlights go out intermittently, dealer replaced switch.
