Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problems of the 2004 Jeep Liberty

On sept. 2, 2019 while driving on route 23 our 2004 Jeep Liberty's gas tank broke off and we dragged it down the road with gas pouring out, another driver alerted us that the gas tank was dragging. If a spark happened we would have been set on fire. The police and fire department were called and our car was towed to a repair shop. I saw a recall #18v278000 online today 09/05/19, we were never notified of this recall.

My car caught on fire last night, fire department was unable to confirm source of fire. I researched Jeep Liberty 2004 recalls and found on June 12,2012 the office of defects investigation (odi) of the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA) opened (ea) 12-005 to investigate an alleged safety related defects concerning fuel tank system integrity for Jeep my 1993-2007 for , which included numerous fire. On 1/16/2017 my Jeep Liberty caught on fire, in the snow. Car was stationary, had only driven 2 blocks, got stuck in the snow, revved up the engine and smoke began coming out the hood. I bought the car used after I've been hit in the back from somebody and I no longer had my Subaru or the money to buy another Subaru so I was stuck buying this car in the meantime and the windows work but only for a little bit 6 hours after I bought the car the engine light turned on course it didn't have any transmission fluid so I put some in but one window dropped had to pull it out and now the driver door does completely will not roll up or rolled down and then I see that they have done some work to it because I didn't notice when I bought it that the door has power they have opened it another issue is that I washed my car when I call the person that bought it it was a little small dealership I stated that I washed the car he stated to me to me "you washed the car?" I said yes I didn't ask any questions however the next day the front left headlight went out and it cost me $15 so not sure what else I can do it appears that there was a recall there is a recall on the fuel tanker what not they can catch fire I would like the recall to be repaired also I should have noticed that the car occasionally randomly feel like it's fishtailing while I'm driving I was struck by a vehicle on the freeway while I was walking after my Jeep grand cherokee that I had prior to my Subaru completely died on the middle of the freeway I began to walk to the call box when I was struck by a car so I have to have a safe car I am a single mother and grandmother thank you for your attention in this matter.

I was approaching the onramp,& as I turned on I heard a noise. Thinking I had a flat I immediately pulled off to check my tires upon rounding the rear of my vehicle I saw liquid on the ground upon backing up a step I could see it was my gas tank with the broken brackets. I thank god there were no sparks & that I was not yet @ speed on the interstate. I was terrified as to how close to death I possibly was. Then I find out here that it had happened 1 other time (that's reported here) but not to the manufacturer. Now I'm out of my vehicle while being repaired and out of work till it's fixed. This should never have to come out of my pocket but will because of negligence. I only wish I had though to take pictures before it was loaded & towed to the garage.

I got my Jeep repoed in 2016 because of not making my payments. I was having the problems with the gas tank and the engine was not running correctly. Is there anything you can do? please let me know. 714-476-9858 jose manzo.

Chrysler had a recall on this Jeep over fuel tank fires, I took the car to a local Jeep dealer twice (Jeep Chrysler Dodge city, 631 west putnam Ave, greenwich, CT 06830 on oct 25th and Nov 17th) (I made appointment at least two weeks earlier in both times), but were told there are no parts available for the recall.

Recall notification NHTSA 13v-252 was issued on 12/11/2013. Recall notice states "Chrysler is making all reasonable efforts to obtain the parts as quickly as possible. Chrysler will contact you again by mail, with a follow-up notice, when the remedy parts are available. " that follow-up notice was never received by me. After calling the Chrysler group recall assistance center on 5/1/2014 to inquire, was informed that parts are not yet available and that it has not yet been determined how the Jeeps are to be fixed. There is no estimated date for remedy of this problem. In my opinion, this is an unreasonable time period to wait for correction of such a potential hazard as fuel tank leakage during certain types of rear end collisions.

I received a recall notice on my Jeep Liberty that the fuel tank has a small chance of experiencing a fuel leak during certain types of rear end collisions. The parts were currently not available and I was to receive a second notice when the parts are available. I have not received any further information and would like this problem fixed. Thank you.

I was sold a vehicle with a known safety defect, ie the fuel tank and filler neck. I have been notified of the recall, but am told there are no parts available for repairs. I believe that this vehicle should not have been sold to me and I believe that Jeep / Chrysler should be doing a buy back / voucher to get these vehicles out of service reducing the potential for injury and death.

Months ago I recieved a vehicle saftey recall. The recall is in regard to my fuel tank having a chance of fuel leak during certain types of rear end collisions which can result in an underbody fire in the prescence of an ignition source. I have made three different inquiries and follow up, 1st with my local Chrysler dealer than with Chrysler group recall assistance in regard to an eta of parts and expediting this process which as far as I am concerned and have been notified, is a serious saftey concern. I have been told the same thing everytime that the parts must not be available yet. I need your help motivating the appropriate parties to expedite this process. My saftey is at stake and the issue here and I am becoming impatient. Please get back to me ASAP with a follow up and some results. The recall # I think is n46/ NHTSA 13v-252. Why hasn't Chrysler complied with safety recall n46 (gas tank leakage)?? I have contacted Chrysler several times and get the response that there is no safety problem with the plastic gas tank. But they will install a tow hitch just to satisfy NHTSA. They said they don't know when the parts will be available either. They said they would let me know later, maybe in August (this year I hope). I just don't understand why it is taking so long. The most important question is; is the vehicle safe in the event of an otherwise survivable rear-end crash?? thanks, mike gardner.

No accident, recall for gas tank collision. Fire explosion danger. This has been reported by your agency. . Chrysler has not yet begun the recall as reported by NHTSA. They have informed that the recall will start soon. That was in June, October and then again in December. As this is a crucial safety issue, I assume your agency must want this resolved. Was alerted by internet blog in Feb. Of 2013 that rear collisions on this model of Jeep Liberty (2004) may cause gas tank to rupture creating a fire hazard. Responses to the blog indicated that a class iv or better trailer hitch may absorb the impact, thus increasing the chance that the gas tank would not be damaged. This explanation sounded reasonable and therefor I opted to have a class iv draw tite hitch installed as a precaution. This hitch meets or exceeds oem specs. I received a recall notice several months later regarding this issue. The notice stated if I had purchased and installed a trailer hitch after the initial purchase of vehicle that I would be reimbursed if I sent proof of purchase. I sent an invoice and a copy of the cancelled check as instructed. I was notified by phone that my claim was not valid as I failed to purchase an oem hitch. My hitch meets or exceeds oem specs as I mentioned earlier . Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide to help me recoup my expenses.

The contact owns a 2004 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the fuel tank detached from the vehicle and spilled fuel onto the highway. The vehicle was towed to a used car lot. The manufacturer was notified and instructed the driver to leave the vehicle where it was until they could send someone to inspect the vehicle. Several days later, the manufacturer notified the contact that they would not send anyone to inspect the vehicle and if she wanted to have the vehicle towed to a dealer she could do so at her own cost. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was unavailable.
