1 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2013

The rear driver's side window fell out of the track; I tried rolling the window up but nothing happened. This is the second time the window regulator has broken. Apparently, this is a common problem with older Jeep Liberty models and from what I have read, the regulator is made of plastic instead of metal and the part is made to break often. I am tired of fixing the problem again and again!.

2 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

The contact owns a 2004 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that the front passenger side window opened without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. After diagnosis, the contact was advised that the window regulator failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileages were approximately 112,000. Updated 3/14/13 updated 04/22/2013.

3 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

Joining in the large numbers of Jeep Liberty owners, I purchased this vehicle January 2012 with approx. 86000 miles. The driver's side passenger window was already inoperable during negotiations and dealer repaired. Within months, the driver's window failed with the same problem, which has been a thorn in the side of many who own(ed) this model - weak plastic part involved in the window motor, causing the glass to fall into the door and difficult, costly repairs. Chrysler has not been made to help the consumer in the history of this wide-spread issue. Please consider action? the cost to repair each window is not inexpensive.

4 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2012

The window regulator has failed in the window. This is a well known problem. Just sitting at a light and the window falls down because of a small plastic piece that holds the window up breaks.

5 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2012

Rear driver side window slipped down inside the door. Unable to secure the vehicle. On 07/01/2012 front driver side window slipped down inside the door. Again, vehicle was parked and unsecured. These parts are expensive in addition to the labor cost to have the repairs made. Inability to secure the vehicle is a safety issue and weather conditions could cause additional damage to the vehicle. Note - during the first few months I owned the vehicle in 2004, the driver side window regulator motor failed and was replaced by the dealership.

6 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

When trying to roll down front driver window, it made noise and cable worm came up in between glass and door jam, flapping on inside of window. Window still worked but the cable wire would come loose sometimes and window would either not roll all the way down, or not roll down at all and other times would roll down just fine. I rolled the window down the other day and the cable wire came flapping up while the window glass is stuck inside the door. Had to pry window out of door and tape shut. Window motor still makes sound but no longer operates window.

7 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

Jeep window regulators are defective. The driver's window made a loud noise and fell into the door. Estimated repair at the Chrysler dealership was $300 - $400 for a small plastic piece. Within six months, the remaining three windows regulators have failed and all windows are now held in place with a plastic zip tie due to the high cost of repair/replacement and Chrysler's refusal to accept responsibility for faulty design or below standard equipment. Being unable to open the vehicle's windows is definitely a safety hazard for several reasons. Certainly do not want to be pulled over and not comply with an officer's request to roll the window down - and if you open the door instead of rolling the window down - that will be perceived as a threat to the officer and only lead to a bad situation. There are so many Jeep owners with the same complaint, please investigate this matter for the safety of all drivers since Chrysler is ignoring their responsibility.

8 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2011

While driving on the highway at approximately 65 mph the passenger side front window fell into the door. The window regulator was what went wrong. Did alot of looking on the internet regarding this and found that it is a common problem with Jeeps. I did not know how common until driving in 20 degree weather last week and the drivers side rear window did the same thing. I have contacted Chrysler about this and was informed that it is not covered under any recall. So I now have two windows braced in the up position with 2x4's and a total loss of respect for a company that I have supported by owning their products for well over 20 years.

9 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2011

Power window regulator fails causing window to unexpectedly fall into the door panel. Front and rear windows failed within 3 months of each other. Multiple complaints filed on this vehicle for the same issue.

10 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2011

I rolled down my passenger window and when I went to roll it back up it would not roll back up. It just kept sliding down. I had to buy a suction cup to keep it up until I could get the part to fix it. Since then it has happened to my rear passenger and rear driver windows also.

11 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2010

I am a 2004 Jeep Liberty owner. While driving my vehicle, I attempted to lower my passenger window on a clear sunny day. My passenger side window made a loud pop and then my window fell down. It would not go back up. I finally pulled over and tugged it up in to position and got it to close. It now will not raise or close properly. I called the dealership service department and they tell me it is the window regulator has failed. This sudden collapse of the window caused me to look immediately right to see what I thought was something hitting my vehicle. Then the surprise of my window dropping while driving in traffic. This could have caused me to make a sudden driving error causing an accident as it scared me when it happened. It was a very loud pop sound ! I called the dealership service department and I was told it would be about $500. 00 to fix. After researching this on the web, I see I am one of thousands with defective windows that drop for no reason in these doors of the Jeep Liberty. Some 6-7 times. We as consumers deserve better from Chrysler. If you check the service records for this problem it should stand out like a sore thumb. We desperately need a recall of for this part of the vehicle that the dealerships are willing to replace while under warranty and acknowledge there is a problem and replace the defective ones but once the warranty expires then we are on our own. The problem is in the design itself. The window regulator is causing problems that are a safety concern and hazard. Please investigate this issue with the Jeep Liberty. Customer service is no help. They tell me to pay the repair expense (caused by the manufacturer's cheaply made product) then send in my receipt and it may get reviewed. This is a safety issue. There are too many that are having to be replaced. This is a problem. I urge someone to launch an investigation into this. This is not Jeep quality that I thought I was purchasing when I paid the huge amount for this vehicle brand new.

12 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2010

Passenger side, back window is stuck in the down position on my 2004 Jeep Liberty.

13 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2010

2004 Jeep Liberty, rear driver side electric window drops down into door, jams door lock, runs down battery-all due to a tiny plastic part breaking repeatedly. I paid to have this fixed in 10/15/08 ($205),read on internet all Jeep owners all models with electric windows having same problem. So, did not use window or door ever since. Same clip broke and was replaced under warranty 9/18/09. Still don't use door or window. Same clip broke again 10/25/10. No longer under warranty so dealer won't repair. Called Jeep corporate. They refuse to even consider working with me or explaining what they will do until I get "an official diagnosis" from a Jeep dealer which will cost me $94. 50 to get. Only then will they even talk to me about this problem. Everyone is having this problem. A tiny plastic clip into which the fuzzy cable connects gets worn over time and breaks. No rocket science there, take a thin piece of plastic and put metal against it and even if not used will vibrate if you drive the car and it will break. Costing Jeep owners big time. First time it stranded my daughter in the middle of the night, jamming the door and running down the battery as electric window kept trying to engage. Now it is sitting in my yard, cannot secure my car as windows is down inside door, and have plastic over window to keep out the rain. This is ridiculous. Case # now with Jeep is [xxx],case manager casey, 1-800-763-8422 but like I said, until I'm willing to pay $94. 50 for "official diagnosis" of a broken ten cent part, they won't tell me if they will work with me at all or to what extent. Only that without the diagnosis, nothing can be done further. First time it broke, sitting in driveway. Second time I pulled up in parking lot and exited front door when window in rear door crashed down inside, I hadn't even touched the door. This time broke in parking lot, no one in car. Window just falls down into door. Costing Jeep owners big time, you have to change entire window regulator, Jeep won't sell clip.

14 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2010

2004 Jeep Liberty. Plastic bracket on window regulator breaks. Have replaced both front and back door regulators. From internet postings - appears I am one of several thousands with this problem. Chrysler dealerships want to replace entire piece along with window. $500 repair over $4 plastic bracket.

15 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2010

My 2004 Jeep Liberty continues to have problems with the door regulator. This is the fourth time it has happened and Chrysler will not recall the defective part. The glass on the door will slide down, and the window will not operate. This has happened twice on the highway and it is very dangerous. The repair cost is approx $500 each time this has happened. It keeps happening to the windows that I have even gotten repaired already. The dealer stated that it was a defective part, they changed the part and now they are going back to the original as that one was no better. So even though I am getting the windows repaired, it continues to happen to all three of the windows. There is only one that it hasn't happen to.

16 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

Within months I have had all four of my window regulators break in my vehicle and all four windows fell completely into door. Two of the times I was driving down the road when window fell. Very expensive to repair already repaired one, now all four broke. Cannot get window to go back up. My extended warranty which I paid alot of money for does not cover these expensive parts. How many complaints does it take before making this a recall.

17 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

The contact owns a 2004 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that the front passenger window regulator failed and the window dropped inside the door. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the regulator needed to be replaced. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that someone would call him back; he was currently awaiting the call. The current and failure mileages were approximately 47,000.

18 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

2004 Jeep Liberty in good repair, drivers side window fell into the door and could not be raised. Motor makes a grinding sound. There was no crash, the window worked the day prior.

19 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2010

My 2004 Jeep Liberty had all 4 window regulators snap within a week of each other. The windows fall into the door, and I am worried about theft.

20 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2010

Was driving down the interstate and noticed the back window came down about 4 inches. Tried to raise the window using the power button and heard a loud pop. Tried again and heard another pop. The window does not roll up. I can raise it by hand but it does not stay up.

21 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2010

I have owned my 2004 Jeep Liberty for since November of 2003. Since that time I have replaced the rear window regulators 6 times. Now that my extended service contract is running out, I contact Jeep and was told that they would consider helping me on an incident by incident basis. I don't understand why this isn't a manufacturing problem and should not be addressed by the company. I have $600 invested in this problem and don't feel that I should have to invest more of my hard earned money for a manufacturing defect.

22 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2010

The contact owns a 2004 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that the windows fell down on their own. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that the regulator had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 160,000.

23 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2010

Left rear window regulator keeps breaking. Has been replaced twice. Now the driver's window is starting the same thing. Very costly. Chrysler dealer won't help with the cost.

24 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2010

The contact owns a 2004 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated the rear windows suddenly fell down due to a broken regulator. This occured while the vehicle was parked in a parking lot. The contact stated this has happened six times. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer to have them replace the regulator. The manufacturer had assisted the contact with the cost of the repairs but the contact stated the repair is not remedying the problem. The dealer informed the contact the regulator is made of plastic and it melts due to the heat and that's what causes the regulator to malfunction. The failure mileage was 110,000.

25 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2010

While driving through congested traffic on the highway, the rear window of my 2004 Jeep Liberty made a grinding noise and unexpectedly fell down inside of the door, my dog nearly fell out and I nearly caused an accident while pulling over to safety. My family and I had to drive 45 minutes in the rain with no rear window. . Read more...

26 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2010

I got into the car, started it, and the back left passenger window dropped. I bought part number 68059647-aa regulator 2303900 for $167. 00 on 7/2/2010. To repair the window. 2/20/2012 I had to replace the driver's side window regulator as it dropped the window and would not function. I bought part number 68059645-ab regulator 23039005 for $182. 00. Since then the passengers' side windows have also failed. On 9/28/2012, the back left window regulator failed again. I might accept 1 window regulator failing but not 4 or 5, if you count a second failure. What gets me is the fact that the back windows do not get a great deal of use. I believe they've been used maybe 10 times since I bought the car in 2004. For a second failure, when the part has not had but 2 uses (to check that the window was operational), is ridiculous.

27 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2010

11 months ago my driver side rear window regulator broke and I had to have it fixed. They said it happens because of the heat. Fine, I forked out a few hundred dollars and a few hours of my time. Then yesterday I got into my car and sure enough the window was down, when I tried to roll it up and nothing happened I immediately called the dealership. They set me up with an appointment for this morning. They said it happens all the time and Chrysler is aware of the problem, but is not doing anything about it, rather they are making more money off of the customers in the repairs. There are thousands of complaints about this online, and now this is the third regulator my car has had, with no guarantee I wont be back again next year for another.

28 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2010

I bought a 04 Jeep Liberty for my son. The driver's window went out immediately after buying it. Research showed thousands of occurrences of this happening to people everywhere. The nylon support bracket is not strong enough to perform its designed function and breaks over and over again with no recall from Chrysler. This is a safety issue and for that reason Chrysler should issue a recall and fix this problem. Chrysler seems to be just getting rich off of fixing their badly engineered window regulator at the consumers expense. I am sure glad the government gave them bail out money but when will they accept responsibility for their poor design and recall this window regulator bracket. In my case, only the nylon support bracket that supports the window to move up/down the track is broken. This is a shameful way for a car maker to handle a problem that is obviously a design flaw. Some agency needs to force Chrysler to own up to this and help the consumer get what he paid for - a vehicle with power windows that work as designed.

29 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2010

My 2004 Jeep Liberty has had the same broken window three separate times. The regulator inside the window motor is poorly designed and snaps. I have just read hundreds of complaints on the internet about this and several other people said they filed a complaint as well. The window basically falls down, and it could have easily shattered all over my three year old who was sitting beside this window. Now it is 100+ degrees here and I have to try to unsafely rig this window so it doesn't fall and break. Chrysler will give an estimate of over $500 to fix this. This is the third time. Something needs to be done to fix this issue and now.

30 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2010

Jeep Liberty window regulator breaks allowing window to fall down into door and remain inoperative until fixed. We own a 2004 Liberty and have now had 12 regulators repaired/replaced over 6 years because of some executive decision to cut cost with a plastic part vs steel. Been caught in monsoon with broken window, 100+ degree temperatures with broken window. This can happen at any time/mileage, moving or stationary, using or not using windows.

31 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2010

The driver's side window regulator failed and the window was inoperable. The regulator was replaced by a mechanic.

32 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2010

I have a 2004 Jeep Liberty that I have had for about 3 years. Within the last year I have now had two of the windows suddenly stop working with no warning. The first one was the driver's side backseat window. Last year I was putting it down due to the heat. When I went to put it up, I could hear the motor trying to work but to no avail. After checking it out, I could actually see a long, metal cord or cable sticking out of the small hole in the door. At the time I took it to the local Jeep dealership and they said it would be about $500 to fix! unfortunately, this is too much for me so I have been using doorstops to keep the window up. Today, I had a similar experience with the driver's side window. This time the window would not go back up. I just spent the last hour dissecting the door and prying the window back up. After looking online, this seems to be a very big problem for this car. I do feel something should be done by Chrysler.

33 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2010

2004 Jeep Liberty, windows repeatatly fall off track when driving, door and rear latch do not lock. The windows have broken 6 times. The car will not lock.

34 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2010

I have a 2004 Jeep Liberty and on 4 separate occasions have had the driver's front and rear windows fall into the door unexpectedly due to a failed window regulator. On two of these occasions the window failure occurred while the vehicle was in operation. On all four occasions, the dealership charged me $325 to fix the window even though they admitted that it was due to a faulty part because I was no longer under warranty. The rear driver window has failed on 3 separate occasions, each time, within less than a year of having the regulator replaced at a Jeep authorized dealership. The service manager at my Jeep dealership has admitted to me that it is a faulty part and that the right thing would be if Chrysler were to issue a recall for the parts.

35 Power Window problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2010
