general problems of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Engine blew, engine not properly working.

While cruising a 50 mph not on crews control the engine started racing with out pressure on the accelerator. When stopped in natural the engine went to 4000 rpm and surged +- 500 rpm.

My 2006 Jeep just stop working, came out of work and would not turn over,ecm box went bad on my Jeep. This is a common problem per my mechanic the on board ( brain ) computer ecu, ecm and ec box must be recalled or else this issue is on the purchasers like us. Fords had the same problem back in 96. Your part for may 2006 Jeep ecm can not be located anywhere in the united states, how is this possible????????.

After fueling and starting the vehicle, it fails to accelerate for several minutes. Also when fueling it doesn't stop and will overflow onto the ground if you don't keep track of how much gas you are putting in. Another issue is that the vehicle shakes very badly when idle.

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 13v-252000 (fuel system, gasoline,) structure and 18v278000 ( suspension) . However, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and were not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. The contact had not experienced a failure. ( VIN tool confirms parts not available). Recalls on this car were not taken care of before being sold to the current owner. Information about such recalls were not disclosed before or during the time of sale. Small issues arose during the first few months of ownership. Recently ,in January 2016 bigger issues have come about and now the engine must be replaced. This has all happened while the vehicle has been in motion.

3 times while driving on the saw mill parkway this morning in stop and go traffic, while coming to a stop the vehicle started to accelerate out of control. The brakes could not control it. The first time I put it in neutral and the engine reverted to idle speed and I was able to continue normally. A few miles later it did it again as I was coming to a stop in heavy traffic. This time when I put it in neutral the engine raced at full speed as if it was being floored. I had to turn off the key. When I restarted the engine it ran fine for a few miles until I was exiting the highway. Again when I slowed to a stop the engine raced at full revs. Going into neutral did not help. Turning off the key fixed it. At the end of the day after work the vehicle behaved normally. This Jeep has done this 3 times in the past, in January 2009, Feb 2012 and October 2014.

I put my car into 4wd for a minute and came to a complete stop and took it completely out of 4wd. It stayed stuck in 4wd and after burning up my engine it broke my front passenger side axle and now I have to pay $800 for repairs. I have never used my 4wd and we are stuck in a snowstorm in the mountain close to portland, oregon and I cant get anywhere.

I tried to make a u turn road was narrow so I had to back up and got stuck in the snow . I rocked it back and forth a few times and then we noticed smoke and fire coming out from under the hood . We got out of the vehicle and within 10 minutes the whole Jeep was on fire! there was no damage to the vehicle when I got stuck not a clew why this vehicle would have started on fire.

While driving the vehicle stopped developing power. Wide open throttle was applied, the vehicle decelerated to approximately 30mph until I was able to pull over. The engine was running extremely rough and would not generate power. I shut it down, waiting a approximately 1 minute and restarted the engine where it ran normally. This problem has happened approximately 5 times in the past year.

I was at the car wash and I was running my a/c and everything was working great. All of a sudden it was hot air coming out of the blower which has only been working in speeds 3 and 4. It is extremely hot right now in America. Today in fort wayne it's supposed to be 105 and tomorrow 106. I have taken excellent car of this Jeep and serviced it regularly. This has come to great shock to me and my wife as we have just moved to the fort wayne area indiana. We are down two vehicles with this heat. Her car blew a timing chain and it was also a Chrysler product. We couldn't afford to fix the engine for that and the cost for the a/c is 866. 00 for the Jeep. I have read a lot of blogs on others losing their a/c in this year of Jeep. I don't want to have a stroke or worse and I can't afford to fix a six year old Jeep.

Dashboard lights for electronic stability control, and traction control come on and stayed lit until after turning the motor off. The systems don't seem to function when the lights are on. This occurs several times a month with no apparent reason, not slippery conditions, weather is variable. I noticed another driver said it happens when their lights are on. I always drive with my lights on, so I don't know if that is a factor.

Ac compressor had to be replaced I did not know there was a recall on it. . Also the computer went on it and that was repaired on 10/11/13. . . I was told the spark plugs were wrong. I have never had a tune up or my spark plugs changed! unless the wrong ones were in there when I bought this brand new in September of 2006. Vehicle started exhibiting a cyl #3 misfire showing code p0303 and all the signs included in TSB 09-007-06. Was also diagnosed by the dealer and having defective cylinder valves and valve locks. I have contacted Chrysler about this problem and they refuse to accept any responsibility for this even though they have a service bulletin out about it. This issue is causing the vehicle to produce more emissions and waste more gas while it runs incorrectly also causing premature damage to the catalytic converter. Any help the NHTSA can provide to help rectify this matter would be great help as Jeep wants to hide from all of there defective parts behind new owner fiat.

Every once in a while vehicle's engine dies at stop sign/ red light or when making a turn. May go for several days without the problem, and then it happens several times in one day. Seems to happen more on hot days, in the afternoon. Considering replacing crank shaft and camshaft position sensors. Have found several reports online with the same problem.

Hello, I bought a 2006 Jeep cherokee sport in romania kj / le85 (the Liberty 4x4 Jeep for europe), from casa auto romania: / 7 February 2007. My technical problems with this car, still in warranty (2 years warranty in romania) are: -the esp/bas warning lamp comes on continuously with engine running, the light remains on at speeds greater than 30mps. First, this problem was randomly appearing, but now it appears each time I am driving on highway with speeds greater than 30 miles/h . -2 times my engine lost power for no reason; -the fuel consumption urban: CA 17 l / 100 km; -the fuel consumption extra urban: CA 12 / /100 km. My car is for the second time in the service in the last 6 weeks for the same problem ? electronic stability control, the primary safety system of this vehicle. First time, after 3 weeks they said they fixed the problem. I brought it back next day with the same problem. My car is still in service. My great problem is that my authorized dealer is unable or don't want to fix these problems, waiting to expire the warranty of my car ? in few days. They don?t want to offer warranty for the pieces they replaced, they say the warranty of this pieces replaced expires with the warranty of the car. This is my third complaint for the same on -going problem. The abs/bas, esp lamp will come on when going 45-50 mph or medium acceleration. At various time the engine will lose power. Jeep Liberty has been taken back three times to dealer. They said they are unable to dupilcate problem as the problem must ne active. The codes are present, but not active. I've written Chrysler/Jeep with not help or assistance. Vehicle is still under factory warranty.

Engine stopped, coasted to curb, vehicle burst in to flames. Total loss.

2006 Jeep Liberty was leased in February 2006. In may, the car lost power steering, power brakes and completely cut off the engine while driving on the road, unable to restart. The dealership could not figure out what was wrong with the car. Sent the car home with us after keeping it for 5 days and assured us that the car was fine. August 3, 2006 same exact problem happened while driving the car, no power steering, power brakes and car completely cut off the engine, car would not start again. Car is in dealership. They are still trying to figure out what is wrong with it.

My client, pablo e. Coelho, bought a Jeep Liberty sport 4x4 in argentina for the sum of usd 40,000 and had several problems. Finally the seller change it for a new Jeep last year. With the new Jeep we are experiencing more problems than with the first one and there are more than three recalls incomplete and the seller is not giving us any notice of them neither any solutions to all these problems. The last recall is described as a safety recall and it is stating that the blower motor may overheat and cause an interior fire. This Jeep is not safe to drive and I do not want to have my client nor any third party injured. I will really appreciate if you can help me to have this solved ASAP.
