When filling fuel tank to full capacity and fuel flow is shut off, fuel comes back up out of fill port spilling at least 2 cups of gas over filler and ground. Happens every time tank is filled full. This occurs while vehicle is stationary engine off while at any gas station. It is an apparent failure on a valve in the gas tank requiring entire tank to be replaced at the owners expense. Is a known issue to manufacturer.
Tl the contact owns a 2008 Jeep Liberty. While the contact was filling the fuel tank, the fuel pump sensor did not alert her that the tank was full. As a result, fuel spewed out of the tank. The failure recurred numerous times at different fuel stations. The contact stated that she could not fill the fuel tank because fuel would flow out. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the fuel station pump sensors failed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Fuel system, after filling tank with gas vehicle stalls after driving away from pump. Vehicle stalls in traffic, at light and in intersections after filling up. My incidents have been many one time while merging into traffic from gas station, at a red light and has stalled right in middle of intersection with traffic. Unknown the problem but vehicle is hesitant to restart after the shut down for approxinately 1 minute.
When filling the vehicle with gas there is a "burp" that pushes gas out of the pipe to the tank. It's like the tank isn't venting, and building pressure when filling. This happens on evey fill-up. I thought the service station shut off were the problem, but after being on a web site, there are alot more with the same problem.
Gas spill when filling tank.
Purchased vehicle used in 2013 11/17/2015 1. Engine continues to run when key is removed from ignition switch. While parked. First noticed last week 11/08/2015 (only as long as the preset time on the radio shut off or the door is opened) 2. With cruise control set and going up hill, transmission down shifts to maintain speed. While trying to keep speed up and then break applied, excessive force is required to dis-engage cruise control. While driving at normal speeds. For as long as I can remember. (break switch has been changed twice) 3. While filling fuel tank at gas station, paying close attention to the pump, fuel will pour out from the filler neck after the pump has shut off. For as long as I can remember. (many occasions) 4. Check engine light continuously on. Possible damage to hoses on emissions canister in left rear wheel well due to gas spillage? (as long as I can remember) 5. Gas cap indicator comes on at start. Possible damage to hoses on emissions canister in left rear wheel well due to gas spillage? (need to manually turn off, changed gas cap twice) 6. It seems that all things electrical have a delay to their function, flashing high beams, honking horn. . . While parked or driving. For as long as I can remember. (all of the time).
While filling up my 2008 Jeep Liberty after the gas shuts off at the pump there is gas over flow from the tank all over the side of the truck and the ground below. I do not over fill my gas tank and I even try to stop before the tank is completely full, yet there is gas that flows back out of the tank after filling up my vehicle. This is a continual issue with the vehicle when I fill it up and I fill up at least 2 times a week due to the long commute that I have. I find that this is a hazard because I put my 4 year old daughter in the vehicle using the driver's side rear passenger door and the gasoline that has spilled is usually still present no matter how carefully I try to clean it up and off of the vehicle. Also there is always gasoline on the ground at the pump after I am done pumping gas which cannot be good for the environment or the next person who has to get gas after me.
Jeep Liberty spurts fuel when filling up. This has happened on numerous occasions. Auto shutoff on fuel pump/nozzle shuts off then a large quantity of fuel spurts out of tank all over side of car and ground. This is an environmental and human safety hazard. Now when filling up, I step away from the car and let the spurting finish. It happens every time I fill up. Also happens when I don't set pump/nozzle to auto shut off, but when I do that, I get fuel all over my hands.
When filling the tank with gas, the gas shoots out of the tank when removing the nozzle, spraying all over the car, myself and the ground. At first I thought it was the pump at the gas station but it has happened multiple times at different gas stations. I brought the car to the dealer and they diagnosed it as a problem with the valve in the tank, which cannot be fixed unless you replace the entire gas tank at the cost of $800.
When pumping gas, the gas pump shuts off as expected however gasoline spews out of the Jeep's filling system. Tried different pumps same results, this occurs without "topping off the tank". This I a serious safety hazard with gas spraying on my face, clothing and overflowing on my shoes, hands, vehicle and ground. I have been yelled at by gas station clerks because it is a safety hazard.
The problem occurs on a replacement gas tank. It did not happen with the original tank. When the tank is filled, the click of the pump shutting off can be heard, yet gasoline spews out of the filler pipe, down the side of the car, and onto the ground. This problem occurred a few times while the replacement tank was under warranty. I blamed the gas stations until I was informed by one of the attendants cleaning up the toxic spill that it was a known problem with Jeeps. When I talked to my local Jeep service on the phone, I was informed that the tank would need to be replaced. The cost of replacing the tank would be over $800 since the current tank was out of warranty. The problem has gotten worse in the last year, and I can no longer fill the tank completely without the gas spewing onto the ground. Slowing the rate of filling does not prevent the problem. Repeated stopping and starting the filling process does not prevent the problem. The only thing that can be done to avoid the problem is not filling the tank all of the way. Video of the problem occurring can be provided upon request.
Faulty/defective fuel check valve/system that causes the tank to overflow when filling with gas at the pump. Gas spouts out of the tank when reaches full.
