My 2005 Jeep Liberty 4x4 was serviced on January 11, 2007 at its place of purchase (brown daub Chrysler in easton, PA). I had described to my service tech the car was making a loud screeching noise when turning and that the car had pulled to the right off and on (every few days) while I was driving. The mechanic stated that he found a "normal noise" related to an air valve in the power steering, and there were no repairs made to the vehicle. I was operating the Jeep Liberty on Saturday, February 3rd. I had the vehicle in park at a drive-up atm. When I shifted the car back into drive, the front tires grabbed, the car kicked forward and the steering wheel pulled to the right. The Jeep rode up over a concrete curb and struck a cement pole, shattering the passenger's side front window, ripping off the door handle, causing a dent and paint damage to the passenger's side of the vehicle. Beyond this problem, the Jeep has been serviced for a broad range of mechanical problems at least seven other times since the purchase date (October 2004). The fuel sending unit has been replaced twice, the vehicle has had two recalls, and four months after I purchased the vehicle the sensor wires had "rubbed through completely" on the transmission. Right now, the vehicle is at a body shop for repair and inspection. It will then be returned to brown daub for a thorough diagnostic checkup of the power steering and/or steering column. Beyond the steering issue, this is not the first time the car has 'kicked forward' - normally this occurs after stopping on wet roads (at traffic lights)
my main concern, again, is the steering issue that contributed to this accident. I believe it needs to be further investigated.

August 15, 2006, I bought a brand new Jeep Liberty from lithia Jeep in aurora, CO. Oct 27th, 2006 my steering wheel fell off the column while driving. According to my invoice, "the steering wheel cracked. The screw that held it together was found and apparently it was never threaded in place. Luckily, I was stopped at a red light and was just gaining speed when it fell off. However, just 2 minutes prior, I was on the highway going 70 mph. I feel very fortunate. I have not received any acknowledgment or response from Jeep regarding this incidence.

2002 Jeep Liberty: since purchase at 6k miles and 6 months old the vehicle has had major issues and I feel unsafe driving it but cannot get a new car at this time. Tow bills topping $1000 since purchase in 2003. Between 2003-2004 the Jeep was at the dealer several times due to internal grinding, difficulty steering which increased when braking, and felt like it was in 4high all the time. Took to dealership but they could not figure out issue. Fiance was driving & we heard loud bang vehicle started jerking & making a grinding noise, then we spun into a median and came to a stop not hitting anything luckily. Turned off and back on and seemed to work fine. It broke down again in lexington, ky during rush hour traffic about 2 days after the dealer told me the problem was in the anti lock braking system. We lost all gears and started rolling backwards at a redlight almost hitting a car until I pulled up emergency brake. It had to be towed to dealer. Transfer case had cracked and exploded at less than 30k miles. Dealer replaced under warranty with refurbished parts. Has broken down several times with sensor issues & battery problems. Has been towed at least 3 times when sensor problem was not properly fixed at dealer and overlooked as the problem. Entire time I have owned my Jeep the steering wheel has had a major shaking and rattling action which increases when applying brakes due to recall on ball joints & issues with steering column according to dealership when asked why it will not drive & brake smoothly. After fixing recall Jeep worked fine for about 3 months then goes back to previous issues again. Ball joint issue causes much difficulty in steering and braking properly and makes me feel unsafe & uncomfortable driving it. I feel as though the ball joint issue prior to & after recall repair has still not been fixed and seems to worsening.
