Jeep Patriot owners have reported 143 problems related to electronic stability control (under the electronic stability control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Three times our 2011 Jeep Patriot sounded like something broke then went into limp mode. We were on a busy freeway twice and getting ready to get on once. After calling good sam roadside assistance they sent a tow truck to a mechanic. We had two different mechanics at 2 different times and they could not get any codes on it. A few years back when on a different incident we went into limp mode and ended up replacing the control module which fixed it. This time was different. I was done after three times. We ended up trading it in for a new Honda crv. Will never buy another Jeep again. We are surprised they never recalled the problem with the control module. I have all receipts and proof.

Wow, just wow!! all the complaints on the 2014 Jeep Patriot. Mine is at the Jeep dealership getting a new throttle body kit. (600$$). . . . I am not sure if I ever want to drive it again after what happened to me. Lost power and all the lights came on in s curves on a rural road. . . Had to creep at 10 miles and hour hoping to get off the road. No recalls are crazy considering all the complaints.

2 incidents same day. Vehicle in motion, lost of control, poor response of steering wheel, brakes not responding, engine and/or electrical system not working properly. Engine cutting off. Tipm problem. Esc and engine lights on. Sounds of car surging. No acceleration in some cases and uphill in particular. We could have got killed if it had happened on the highway for sure.

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Patriot. While driving 60 mph, the electronic stability control warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The driver was able to coast the vehicle onto the side of the road. The vehicle was restarted and driven, but the failure recurred the following day. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the VIN was not included in a recall. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
I've had my Jeep for one year when one day a red lightening bolt and an engine light appeared on my dashboard. No acceleration or power. I had to keep cutting my car on and off in order to make it home. I had to take it to the shop the next day where I had to pay lots of money to replace the throttle body unit. 2 years later even after replacing my engine (due to an accident) the same light has appeared again. Jeep we need answers? sounds like a pretty common problem.

Vehicle was in motion on a residential street doing about 25 mph and all the sudden my engine shut off. My traction control light came on. I could not steer the car and my brakes would not work. Luckily I was on a residential street and was able to stop and restart my car.
Traveling 95 north with cruise control on traveling 73 mph. After about 15 minutes the engine raced as if I were trying to increase my speed. The vehicle surpassed 80 mph. I had to stomp on the break to disengage the cruse control.
Takata recall electronic throttle light keeps coming on cause the car to lose speed and eventually stall as the weather changes. While car is in motion once reaching above 40 miles per hour.
I bought a Jeep thru randy wise durand 3 monthss ago. Since buying it is has been relaired w or 3 times for the enginee randomly stopping while driving. This past time I was on the highway going 70 with a semi behind me when the engine for no reason just stopped running. We were almost killed because the Jeep went from 70 to 0 with a semi behind us that almost slammed us. It just "shuts off" when it feels like it. Randy wise has not offered a replacement and cannot seem to fix it. A witness is available.
Airbag light on and off. Limp mode turning on. Car going from 45 mph to 15 mph.
Brief summary: I purchased the 2008 Patriot in 2014 with 70k miles. First occurance of vehicle stalling and shutting off occured in 2015 with 80k miles; when the throttle body light/ esp began flashing and sputtered a few seconds before it shut off while in motion. The vehicle restarted with in 10 minutes. I had the throttle body and gasket repaired. Since then there has been other random occasions of stalling where the throttle light/ esp and engine light flashes precedding a stall. Now 2018-19 (107k miles) I went in for diagnosis because my car stalled agin this time was in busy traffic and throttle light, esp lights, engine light came on before the engine shut off. I have been advised that there is a crankshaft issue that causes the engine light to come on and stall the vehicle intermittently. I had crankshaft replaced the spark plugs changed, the throttle body cleaned and the electical harnesses serviced to yet have the same issue occur when the vehicle stalled 24 hrs after repairs. The engine, throttlebody and esp lights came on again with in 24 hours before shutting off in the middle of a busy intersection of traffic. I am now having a 3rd independent mechanic look into the issue and see if there is anything else that could be causing the intermittent stalling. I spoke with Jeep customer care and they stated that my particular VIN doesn't have a recall although other Patriots of the same class have had same occurence and recall yet there is nothing that they can do for me in this case to address the safety issue or repairs since I am out of warranty. I strongly reccommend that the dot investigate this matter and require Jeep to either recall the vehicle or require Jeep to repair these vehicles to safe performance on the roads and/or refund me the purchase price as I am still in contract paying for a non functional risky vehicle.

While driving 65 mph down the highway with my son in the car, the car shuddered, lost all power and the powering steering must have gone as I could only turn the wheel with extreme force enough to coast off the side of the road. Car then cranked but check engine light was on. Drove slowly home. Was taking the very next morning to have service done and it happened again. This is very dangerous as there is no way to notify the cars behind you that you have no power or control. This turned out to be the crank shaft position sensor which I have read is a common issue and the 2016 was recalled for this as a church friend told me about his. I'm wondering with the safety risk involved why only the 2016 has been recalled. My father is a mechanic and he said he has never had a vehicle with this issue.
230am on interstate 25, no road lighting, no traffic nearby. By ourselves, four of us on the way to the airport. Set cruise control to 75mph. Seconds later all lights including dashboard went out. In total dark ness. Guessed side of road. Managed to stop car. Turned off, back on, all restored. We actually grazed an overpass which I have attached photos. We four came near death. Scared to drive car. Just had "patch" work done at nearby dealership to repair abs and traction lightss that were on. Please advise.
My car isn't even 5 years old and the lightening bolt comes on and my car slows down in the middle of highway traffic. It takes at least two tries to turn the car on before it actually starts and now in the middle of driving on the highway the lightening bolt comes on and the check engine light came on. The car will jerk and won't go more than 35 and won't respond to accelerating. This is unbelievable and shouldn't be happening with a car less than 5 years old.
I have the same exact problem as everyone else. The throttle lightning bolt flashes, car wont shift or do more than 35. It wont respond to accelerating. It jerks all over the place when at a low speed. I went off of the road in the snow but was ok. When it first started it kicked into a lower gear, jerked and the car slid. You are going to get people killed ignoring this and now here is written proof that you have been warned. Do hear that, Chrysler? because youre about to.
Same complain as everyone else. My Jeep Patriot 2014 suddenly lost power and started jerking while driving not allowing me to accelerate. Three lights came on the throttle control warning light, engine and traction control light. Replaced throttle body my self and I want my dang recall or a lawsuit filed because this could cause a major accident and lifes are involved.
Takata recall: computer errors, power connection errors, power steering errors, transmission replacement x1, power fuse box x1, steering/suspension/steering wheel errors. All of these problems happened within the year of purchasing this vehicle dealerships are no help and I am still making payments on a car I can not drive the repairs are way to high theses problems have no explanation they just keep popping up with out warning.
Driving on the interstate, and the electrical indicator came on as well as power reduced down to 25-30 miles per hour during morning rush hour. Drove car on shoulder of highway until closest exit for safety. Towed vehical to mechanic, and throttle body was replaced.
Jeep Patriot converter recall my 2015 Jeep Patriot completely shut down on me and was unable to be put into either a drive or reverse option. The Jeep shut down and could not be driven due to the Cadillac converter. The transmission on the Jeep became physically torn into pieces while it was overworked due to the converter issue, and my exhaust system was overworked. Acceleration became an issue as well. Had to have the Jeep towed, and repaired with high costs due to the serious problem of it not being driveable. I had the converter replaced, the transmission replaced, and other small repairs in order to fix it and save it. I have not had any issue with the engine as of yet, and am hoping to avoid any in the future. I just became aware of the national recall for Jeep Patriots and their converter malfunctions. Please advise me how I can go about sending my receipts for these repairs to be reimbursed.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Patriot. While driving at an unknown speed in heavy traffic, the vehicle lost power. The electronic throttle control and electronic stability control indicators illuminated. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road, turned off, and restarted. The vehicle was taken to leith Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram aberdeen (910-944-7115, located at 11049 us-15, aberdeen, nc 28315) where the contact was informed that there was no recall for the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v668000 (seat belts, air bags). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Vehicle in motion - cut off/loss of power when accelerating from ramp onto busy highway with my 2 year old in vehicle [cause unknown, vehicle is not throwing any codes] vehicle in going from stationary to in motion - when going to make a left turn out of a shopping center car staled with me and my 2 year old in it, with on coming traffic. Quickly put car in park, car would not start, had a long start, electrical system freaked out, I could not stop it by turning off the key, key wouldnt move. [unknown cause] vehicle in motion - bucking and staling after filling up with gas [cause unknown, could be vapor/liquid separator valve] vehicle stationary - when fueling, after removing nozzle sound of air being sucked into the gas tank [vapor/liquid separator valve at top of fuel tank] vehicle stationary/running - at idle car randomly drops rpms and tries to stall [unknown cause] vehicle in motion - grinding sound while driving, loss in the ability to respond quickly to pushing on gas pedal, causing an overload on cvt transmission [unknown cause, maybe drive train] vehicle in motion - when driving whining sound [unknown cause] mixed advice from mechanic some say could be cvt transmission others have cited technical repair notice for whining of power steering. This has been going on randomly since Feb 2018.

My car is not starting. This is the third time this year that I had to bring it in to the dealership. The red bolt goes on last two times and I was on the road driving and it slowed down. This time it won't work. I took it to dealership twice already and it's less than two months apart. Third time happening now.
Purchased vehicle in December, complained of loose steering from day 1 nicely, inspection sticker was put on through dealerships mechanic which I later discovered was on local news for investigation of fraud like activity, reached out to credit acceptance, no results, later discovered they have past lawsuits, investigations, court rulings against them, as well as dealership having multiple business claims in MA/nh, I proceeded to bring my case to the bbb, district attorney as well, two written estimates of vehicle not being safe, still have one of two bald tires for evidence in my possession, pictures of 5 safety lights on to date, I have spent at least 500. 00 additional repairs, vehicle monthly payment, insurance, initial deposit and trade in, I am a struggling sole parent/provider that was tired of dealing with my prior vehicle, I have research to present my case including lemon law support, loan company on probation in NY and one other state, I desperately need assistance in this circumstance as I am employed with amazon flex subcontracting and needing reliability, I struggle with writing so hopefully this message is an example of why manufacturers should be learning from their mistakes, not keeping horribly dangerous vehicles for resale, and I'm going to end this note by giving additional input on how unfair it is that mopar was fined 1. 7 billion dollars, this vehicle is vibrating when I get to 40mph, making whistling noise at all speeds, 5 safety lights, electrical system issues getting worse as well.
My vehicle will sometimes not go when I press the gas. The brakes don't properly work, the 4 wheel drive lock fails, the esp light flashes, the traction control fails, and it makes it difficult to drive over 5 miles an hour. I have yet to be in an accident, but I fear it may happen. It happens immediately after starting to drive, and doesn't always correct itself. I contacted Jeep and they told me I'm on my own. It is a known issue with these vehicles and wonder why they haven't recalled them to fix the problem. I fear I'm stuck with a lemon vehicle, because the transmission has already been replaced and I've only been in possession of the vehicle for 10 months. What are my options moving forward?.
On 11/5/18, my fianc was driving on the freeway, about 65 miles an hour, when the car engine completely shut off. This caused the power steering to stop working. She was barely able to coast off of the freeway, struggling to steer it, without hitting other vehicles on the busy freeway. It sat for four hours, and then it started again. It has shut off while driving at least four times in a week, on city streets and stop lights, and wouldn't start numerous times the car only has about 35,000 miles on it. It was taken to the Jeep dealership in woodbridge va. , for a sensor chip replacement on 11/10/18. That evening, after taking it home, it wouldn't start. It will be towed back to the Jeep dealership on 11/12/18. There seems to be numerous complaints about this vehicle shutting off while driving. This is an extreme safety concern, especially on the freeway or with children in the car. I don't understand why this serious problem has not initiated a recall, especially when the mileage on the vehicles people are reporting on are so low, including one with only 11,000 miles. It's obviously a Jeep problem. It should not take a fatality in order to initiate a recall.
While driving I made a right turn and then the "tire light" began to flash and a warning sound was heard then the "traction control light" began to flash and alert sound was heard and then a "red lightning bolt" warning light was flashing on the dashboard and the "engine light" turned on, all lights were lit up and the engine stalled and couldn't get passed 20mph even thought the accelerator was almost to the floor. The vehicle has only less than 32000 miles, and has had its regular maintenance. I've seen several similar complaints on Jeep Patriot forums and seen that the 2014 and 2016 had recalls for this or related issue. When stopping the vehicle idles high and still moves even though the brake is fully pressed, and the temperature rises fast. I was driving at night on a city street so luckily the wasn't much traffic. The lights came on before I lost engine power and I shut off the vehicle and turned it back on and they went away but that didn't happen the second time it occurred, the lights stayed on and that's when I also lost engine power and the vehicle would stall. Moves fine in reverse but because the vehicle is idling really high it takes off in reverse by itself without using the accelerator.
When driving on highways and city streets the whole dashboard lights up with all the warning symbols. Everything in the dashboard including the speedomoter resets to zero lights up and then goes off and on for a couple of miles. It sounds like the car system is trying to click on and off or readjust. I then am not able to accelerate above 40mph when the gas pedal is all the way to the floor while driving on highways, city streets and turning. The traction light is on although I do not manually have it on and sputters when turning on city streets and grinds gears and gets stuck not allowing me to accelerate above 20mph. After receiving a diagnostics from a Jeep dealership they said that the above stated issues could be related to the throttle body system. The issues are still occuring after mulptile mechanic checks.
I've had 2 new 2014 Jeep Patriots, and the electronic throttle control has failed on both while highway driving at 65mph, leaving cars with no engine power or power steering. Somebody will die one day in this car. I junked the first one after repairing the etc, and now it has happened again on the 2nd one. Please google the subject and see thousands of others w/same issue. Jeep refuses to acknowledge all the way down to the dealership level, and will not repair or replace the defective part. I have had this happen twice on 2 new 015 Patriots purchased from the same dealer in marietta, GA. There is something seriously defective in these etcs, and I am lucky my wife and daughter were able to negotiate themselves off the highway without getting maimed or killed. Jeep needs to be brought to acknowledgement, and recall on this very dangerous issue.
Tamara recall to whom it may concern my 2014 Jeep Patriot throttle body went out while driving and almost caused a crash I looked up on the Jeep forum and their is thousands of people with the same year and make with the same issues alot of them caused recks from throttle body issues, what happen was I was driving on a city street and came to a stop sign and then my etc light and check engeine light came on blinking and then with my foot completly on the break and I just got new breaks done a couple of months ago , my Jeep started to rev and the rpms went all the way to the red and my Jeep was off bucking and went straight ahead while my foot is still on the break I was completely not in control of my Jeep and I was heading right into another vehicle I slammed on my horn and put my hazards on and the other person slammed on their breaks, I was able to coast off the road because it wpuldnt go over 20 mph after that and turn my Jeep off and called a tow truck and sent it to the shop , and they called me saying it was throttle control body went out and saying its going to be like 600 dollars to fix. It was the most scariest and dangerous thing I've ever seen happen with vehicles. I called Chrysler and they seemed like they understood this has been a promblem and they just did not care the below pictures are just some of the people that went thru the same thing its called Jeep forum. Thanks for your concern.
Throttle body housing failure: while driving to work on an interstate with speed limit of 60mph, vehicle would decelerate from 50mph down to 20mph and would not speed up regardless of how I pressed the gas pedal. The esc, etc, and mil indicators began to flash and the vehicle would not speed above 20-30mph. I had to have the vehicle towed to a local Dodge dealer who diagnosed the issue as needing a replacement throttle body housing at a cost of $880 for that repair and replacement of a leaking coolant / radiator hose.
April 2017, while driving on the freeway Jeep started to shake. Etc and engine light were lit up, car would not accelerate. Pulled over at nearest exit. Shut off car and tried to restart, car would not start. Dealership determined that throttle body needed to be replaced. August 2018, while waiting at stop light I started to make a right turn. Car was shaking and did not want to accelerate. Traction control and engine light turned on. Had to shut off vehicle and restart in the middle of a city street. Car restarted, the next day only engine light stayed on. While at stop light and foot on the break the engine shut off. All lights and radio stayed on. Restarted car, driving fine. Took it to dealership, they replaced the throttle body again (and wanted to do so at my expense). While attempting to return my car, it shut off on them. They returned it to me saying it had been fixed. Next day problem persisted and became more frequent. Took back to the dealership, they replaced sensor cam and sensor cra to my expense. Now my breaks are shaking. It's a three year old car. I'm the second owner. It shouldn't be having these types of problems. I'm not spending more money at the dealership. I'm selling the vehicle. I'll be sure to never purchase Jeep or any other Chrysler brands.
While driving the car runs rough. I've scanned the car and no codes come up. I was driving and the etc light flashed and it felt like the time went out. I was afraid that my car went out of time. While driving and shifting the transmission sometimes slips out of gear prematurely. I was driving straight when all of these problems happened.
Driving on the frwy car turned off and would not turn back on , from then in it has has trouble starting light signals trip . I've been stranded with no crank. Took it to several mechanics all whom saynits a faulty tpim . With a $1000 or more fix.
While driving, the check engine light, the electronic throttle sensor light and the abs light came on. As a result, the engine loses power, the transmission is choppy and I cant drive faster than 20-30 miles per hour. If I turn the car off and restart, the sensor light and abs light goes off, the check engine light stays on and the car runs normal. After five minutes, the aforementioned lights come back on and the engine returns to its subnormal running conditions. There is no specific explanation for this problem and according to Jeep's forums, it is a common problem among all Jeep models.
