I have a vehicle with a tire pressure monitoring system. Two tire valve stems are cracked and one has a slow leak. I have read of others with the same system where the valve stems simple break when hand washing the car and the tire goes flat in seconds. This is a serious hazard and could kill someone if it happened on the highway. It is outrageously expensive to replace these stems.

While servicing this customer's vehicle we put an a tire inflator on the vehicle's valve stem. The valve stem broke and was very brittle. The tire lost all air pressure and needed to be repaired at a tire shop for $138.
Tire low sensor was activated. Upon checking tire pressure, noticed two valve stems were broken off. They were replaced at owners expense as Chrysler said it wasn't covered under warranty. Car currently has three more broken stems. Material seems to be defective and cannot replace stems without replacing entire sensor.
