Jeep Renegade owners have reported 63 problems related to air bag (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Jeep Renegade based on all problems reported for the Renegade.
The vehicle was involved in a crash and no airbags deployed. The front right (passenger) side quarter panel, windshield bumper, headlight, marker light, and turn signal will all need replaced. With no safety restraint system, had the accident taken place at higher speeds, my passenger and myself could have been seriously injured or worse. The transmission, at 54,000, has began to overheat and slip while shifting. The cooling fans only work with the air conditioner on causing the vehicle to overheat. This vehicle has a 194° thermostat and the temperature gauge reads 227° but the actual gauge shows the temperature still in the middle, where it always is. I have replaced the coolant bottle due to it separating at the seam causing a coolant leak. Also, NHTSA show that I have zero pending recalls when I know there is because I never took the vehicle to the dealership because the dealership is permanently closed.

The contact owned a 2020 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that while the vehicle was stopped on the expressway for roadway construction, another vehicle rear-ended the rear driver's side. The contact's head and face struck the steering wheel, causing a nosebleed. The vehicle spun and collided with two to three other occupied vehicles; however, the contact did not know if anyone was injured. The air bags did not deploy, and the seat belts failed to restrain the contact and her two minor children, seated in the rear passenger's and driver's side seats. The contact's child, who was sitting in the rear passenger's seat, was thrown into the trunk upon impact. The doors failed to unlock until the fire department arrived. The firefighters opened the door to evacuate the contact and her children. The contact and her children were transported to the hospital by ambulance, where police informed her that the vehicle that rear-ended her was driving at 90-95 mph. The contact was unaware that police and fire department reports had been filed. The contact had body aches, and bruises on her stomach, legs, and back, and her left pinky was fractured. One of the contact's sons suffered from back and leg pain, while the other had headaches. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed totaled by the insurance company. The contact later received an email from the dealer stating that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 24v510000 (air bags, seat belts). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was unavailable.
6/24/21 I backed out of my carport & my car jerked me very hard like something shifted. All error codes & lights came on, air bag (which did not deploy) e brake light was on, check engine & tire pressure the prnd light up simultaneously & flashed. I turned it off & back on, seemed fine I put in drive & drove in my circle driveway & suddenly it stopped accelerating even with me giving it gas then it took off & the e brake came on. Thank god I was in my driveway & not pulling into traffic when this occurred. My husband tried again when he got home & it did the same to him would go then just stop accelerating mid drive & e brake come along with all the flashing error codes & I mean every code it can throw it did. It was like it was going in & out of limp mode & the e brake would come on when it wanted to mid drive. It has been in service since 6/26/2021 when it was taken by tow to the dealer, as it was unsafe to try to drive. I do have an extended mopar warranty & im told they have contacted Jeep engineering team but have no answers. It’s been in their possession close to 40 days now. I will not feel safe at all if they fix this car due to that incident. I would either be dead or badly injured.

My 2016 Jeep Renegade was involved in an accident October 4th, vehicle totaled but no airbags deployed even though the Renegade was on and there was a passenger (buckled in) in the vehicle. Had fca run their investigation though they will not share the results of which with me even though I've asked. Their response your request for our inspection report is proprietary, paid for by us, belongs to us, and therefore, unavailable for distribution. If you disagree with our handling, you certainly have the right to hire your owner inspector, at your expense, to examine the vehicle . We have closed the file regarding this matter. both my insurance adjuster and body shop (who asked for the investigation) stated that based on the impact (crushed rear and driver side) should have set off the airbags though they didn't and the passenger was injured, why won't they share the report?.

My computer had started to glitch within less than 100 miles of me buying the car I was told it was because the oil was low now I have a service engine light and within a day my car has lit up like a christmas tree with every light power steering has gone and I've already gotten an accident worth almost the whole car -1 grand so it was not totaled nor can anybody explain why my car did this and I got the blame for it when I have no control over this car this needs to be recalled this happened to me on the highway and side roads I have no e break and I cannot steer my wheel nor do I know if the airbags are even going to work because I got an a $10,000 accident and they did not go off.
I made a right hand turn and my vehicle just stopped. Engine was still on but just quit moving I pressed the gas but no response. I turned the ignition of and back on and it started but then an service air bag warning came up on the dash. I can't believe an air bag warning would make the vehicle stop in traffic with no warning and no control.
I got t-boned so hard I was trapped inside of my vehicle and none of the airbags ever went off.
Car looses power steering and power and does not shut off and air bags are not on while driving.
My car keeps ringing seat belt alert even when seatbelts are on. The panel lights up and says service emergency break and air bags. Also at times I get alert saying fob key is not in vehicle at same time I am driving down the road. I have to drive to NY from FL and back again and am afraid to drive.
Airbag service is on and don't know what caused it. There has been no damage to my vehicle. The engine is using up a lot of oil in a very short amount of time. 2000 miles after my oil change I discovered that my engine has no oil left in it and my gas is being depleted at a very fast rate.
Purchased 4/20/2017 the problems began with the ac going out at 10000miles. The dealership didn't want to fix it told us to drive with the windows down. After arguing about our warranty we got a loaner. Next they replaced the wiring harness 2 times. Again, did not want to provide loaner had to complain for them to honor warranty agreement. Then transmission skips and radio frequency hub was replaced twice while in the shop for 4 months from Dec 14 2018 till around March 17 2019. Steering module replaced due to the steering wheel in the center getting completely hot. Complained about the transmission skipping still. Check engine light always comes on. Automatic start faulty. Will attach all repair invoices. Most recent! 5/6/2019, a Monday the car was scheduled due to a recall on the fuel pump and the automatic start would not work. Along with that when the car started the screen would flash warning signs: emergency break system, airbag system warning. The service department claimed to not have a loaner. However, Friday 5/10/2019 I had not received a call back and on my way to take my daughter to school. The emergency breaks locked up while driving 70 mph down fm 1289 heading to port o'connor, texas from port lavaca, texas. I went straight to the dealership and demanded a loaner. The vehicle is clearly a lemon! however larry taylor, a service technician, told us "I value my life I would not drive this vehicle". Paul perez service department manager said "I wouldn't put my family in that vehicle. " then they demanded we bring the loaner back 5/17/2019 to pick up our vehicle. The vehicle according to them had a short circuit, this is the second time mind you, and made the emergency breaks engage and the seat belts malfunction. Also, the airbags malfunctioned flashing warning as the breaks locked up. I could only select 3 options but seat belts needs to be checked.
I turned on my Jeep Renegade with the automatic start button in like 30 weather. I drove it down the highway for about 10 minutes and the service engine light turned on. I also had the air bag, brake warning sign turn on. I stopped to put gas and just the service engine light stayed on. I had a diagnostic test done with code p0128- thermostat failure. Had to have it replaced in canada since I am on a temporary work permit. So it cost me an arm and a leg for service. Checked online and many people have had the same problem.
I am reporting a possible safety problem that has developed over recent months with my 2016 Jeep Renegade trailhawk 4x4. The vehicle has a recurring malfunction with the driver side seat electrical wiring assembly. The problem occurs intermittently after the seatbelt is properly secured and there is normal body movement in the driver seat while the vehicle is either in motion or stationary. The problem so far affects several of the electronic subsystems connected to the vehicle's driver seat. This malfunction has caused temporary or permanent disabling of the driver seat power controls, airbag system, electronic parking brake system and seatbelt warning system.

The vehicle was on a 65 mph highway and collided with a work convoy truck. The front and both front quarter panels were involved, more damage on the passenger side. Vehicle was a total loss. No airbags deployed.
Interstate 5 south of cottonwood heading south bound briefly tell us what happened?I was driving south bound in my 2017 Jeep Renegade. I was going to pass some morning traffic that was building in the right lane. Waiting and watching for a safe opening and looking back at the traffic in front of me as well. After 5 or 6 attempts to get over and we'll over a mile I saw an opening. I accelerated to get in and before I knew it I slammed head on into the back of a diesel tractor trailers steel duel stage bumper at almost freeway speed 65-70 mph from sitting at about 55-62 mph waiting for an opening. I blacked out and had only half a clue what had happened the officer on site thought I was drunk or had briefly fallen asleep because of how out of it I was. But over time the memory came back. . I passed his roadside eye exam and was taken by him to st. Elizabeth's hospital in red bluff for a chest exray as I was in the first pain I have ever been in. Dr said I had broken cartledge throughout my chest and sever swelling as there was a failure in the airbag and only the strearing wheel and seat belt stopped me. W/ o the air bag my lower back skipped forward in the seat as my upper chest slammed into the wheel and ripped back into the seat after. I totaled my Jeep and did not get one airbag. These Jeep Renegades boast a plethora of 10 + airbags I didn't get one.
My vehicle was involved in a serious front end crash and no airbags deployed.
Tthe steering wheel locked up on neice causeing her to go towards the right side, and back tires locked up and caused her to spin. . Eventually getting hit from behind by another driver! it could have killed her, she couldnt do a thing with the steering wheel at all it needs to be recalled ASAP so others wont be hurt or worse killed. She was driving down the road to an appt. Douglas GA.

Tl the contact owned a 2017 Jeep Renegade. While driving approximately 60 mph in the fast lane during heavy rain, the vehicle skidded to the center lane and struck an 18 wheeler. The vehicle turned 360 degrees three times, crashed into a cement divider, and stopped in the middle lane facing incoming traffic. None of the air bags deployed. No injuries were reported. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a private impound lot. The manufacturer was contacted and case number: 34583064 was filed. The manufacturer also sent a third party company to investigate the crash. The third party company stated that any rate of deceleration would hinder the air bags from deploying. The approximate failure mileage was 1,200.
Car will not start. Push button key start. Lights on steering column light up, radio goes on car doesn't start. After multiple attempts of shutting car off and on the car delays and then kicks over. Nothing we'd up when it happened when on the e at dealer. Dealer replace a component in the push button key start. Had car back for 5 days. Happened again x 2. Dealer took car and again could not get to simulate.
For the fourth time I took my car to the service at the dealer , and for the fourth time the same problem occurred received a 'service power steering' dashboard message. . . . And the vehicle has no power steering. I have 20,000 miles on my vehicle. After I leave the car for two month in the dealer finally they call me and said my car was reedy as today March 2018 but continues with the same problem . I am of course concerned that my power steering could fail while I am driving the vehicle could cause serious accident. This happen one time already, I'm very frustrate I don't know what to do this point. If some could help me or indicate what to do thanks. Same problem here- except total loss of steering while on highway. Numerous electrical issues, 7 total since 2016, 16 days and counting in service bay and not driveable. This car is a nightmare. Dealer service they don't know how to service.
I have had the Jeep for 18 months, bought brand new, and have in shop at least 14 times. The scariest problem was when I pulled out into traffic, got up to about 35 mph and the car went into "lockdown". Car put itself into neutral, air bags turned off, brakes didn't work, and just about every other system turned off. This has happened 3 times and the 1st 3 times, they kept saying it was a software update. Turned out the engine thermostat was reading it was -40 degrees and this caused it. Now I have a service tire pressure system warning, after having to replace all 4 tires after only 28k miles. This is an unsafe vehicle and have been trying to work on lemon law in florida, but now my Jeep rep is gone and looks like I have to start the process over. Why doesn't Jeep just recognize that this is a severe safety issue and I won't let my wife or son drive this vehicle, but I need it to get to work, risking my life every time I drive it.
