I previously had this same issue August 2024 (associated complaint 11608428). My rear drivers side tail light is out completely-no brake light, reverse, turn signal, or nighttime tail light is working. I spent nearly $800 to replace part 68599920aa, as the entire motherboard was fried, as were the connectors from overheating. I’ve located several other complaints with similar issues: 11585014; 11142232; 11023686. This is clearly a defective issue with Jeep Renegades and a safety concern that should be a recall.

A faulty tail light connection to ground can cause a fire hazard, potentially affecting the circuit board. I noticed a burning plastic smell emanating from the back tail light one day, which I believe originated from this connection. If left unrepaired, this could potentially start a fire.

Am writing to formally report multiple serious issues with my 2019 Jeep Renegade (VIN: zacnjabb6kpk85059). I take good care of my vehicle, but it has been experiencing rough shifts, lurching and jerking during acceleration, loud noises from the engine or transmission, hesitation, unexpected power loss, and it frequently displays a warning that the license plate light is off. Recently, the car overheated and required a water pump replacement, and since then it emits a burning hose smell. Additionally, the driver’s seat does not lock properly, and the radio often turns off and on by itself. These ongoing problems not only compromise the safety, reliability, and proper functioning of my vehicle but also create a significant financial burden. I am requesting an immediate inspection and resolution, and I would appreciate guidance on the next steps or the earliest available appointment for service. A prompt response is important, as these issues pose a serious safety risk while driving.

Uconnect screen is out. Started glitching but now it is completely black yet the touch part of it is responsive?? now if only I could remember exactly where everything is located and in what order. . Haha. Not. Also I have no backup camera view, not being able to see what temp my ac/heat is at or which mode it is on. What time is it even? how do I turn on the passenger heated seat for my daughter in the mornings and evenings when the temperature outside is below zero? how do I know where my next turn is when I am driving to a destination with my children and this is the first time I have ever seen, much less been on this road? it sucks!! and my android auto is no longer an option. . . Music?? the safety I could put myself and others in by having to look at and use my phone to change songs, artists, podcasts, make a call or change a gps route. . . Not cool! also the "fog light" running light on my passenger side does not work at times despite having changed the bulb, wiring, even though the fog light works just fine? and I have often felt like my transmission was slipping when accelerating from stop signs or at other times and that is insane considering the vehicle had less that 50k miles at the time. I want to love my Jeep like I once did yet all this has me questioning whether I would even ever purchase another Jeep. I also feel like my front end is loose and there is a wobbling and have had the mechanic check several times. It doesn't sound safe or feel safe. Yet what is truly most important is that I want and need my current Jeep to last me but all these issues kinda scare me to be honest. I want my screen back!!! I want my light to work at all times! I need my transmission to be wonderful!! I don't even have 95k on my Jeep yet!!! I am praying that submitting this report will help out in some ways.

The car keeps shutting off while driving. Had to replace battery twice in the last few months. Also had relays replaced. Problem keeps happening. Something is draining the battery. I read there were problems with this make and model where even when the vehicle is shut off, certain connections remain active and drains. Shutting down with no warning while driving is very unsafe.

This is the 2nd time I am repairing the left rear light that controls the signal, brake and parking light. The wires are burnt to the bulb. There is condensation in the light. Not accident related. I note that there is a potential recall but not officially.
Driver side rear tail light assembly ground wire burned up and caused the tail light assembly to stop working. Replaced tail light assembly and wiring harness. This is a common failure on the Jeep Renegades and should be recalled due to safety.
I went to get a light fixed (driver side fog light) and the bulb had blown up and completely melted the housing. I searched the internet and it is on the Jeep site as extremely common. I just purchased this car. I can't afford $650 to fix the melted housing. The guy that tried to change it at the shop said it was a complaint he has heard before.
Catalytic converter. Part was recalled on the same engine but cuts off at 2016, however, my 2017 has the exact same engine and exact same issue as the recall issued to prior years. The problem has been confirmed by a dealership and mechanic. I have had a check engine light on to notify me of this error.
The rear driver side brake light, turn signal, and parking brake light, come and go as they please. Some days will work correctly and some days will not. I did read of a recall and my VIN number is not on that list. But it has been acting like short in the wiring for over 6 months now.

While driving around I suddenly got an alert from the car that the driver's side back up light, left turn signal light/rear tail light was no longer functioning. I had to drive around without people driving behind me knowing of any intent to turn left, which was a safety issue. I took it to an independent mechanic who replaced the bulbs and everything was back to normal, but only for 30 minutes. The same thing happened again on my drive home and I had to turn around to take it back to the mechanic. Upon further investigation, the mechanic noted that the connector for the light was burnt out and thus, causing a faulty connection, that had nothing to do with the lights themselves, and that could fail at any time. In trying to get a new connector, the mechanic found that they are on backorder, presumably because this is an issue being faced by numerous Jeep Renegade owners. So now, even if I wanted to fix the problem, I can't, which again, is a safety issue.

The rear driver side tail light, brake light, and turn signal stopped functioning at one time while driving (leaving a parking lot). Warning indicators for all 3 appeared on the dash notice area. Checked all lights and fuses for the 3 lights to ensure nothing was damaged or blown. All were fine. The issue is the center pin for the ground wire connecting the rear lighting housing had melted. This was determined after searching online for assistance to figure out the issue, as the lights and fuses were all in working order. Apparently this is extremely common in the 2017 Jeep Renegade specifically. It is a costly repair, which most people cannot repair themselves, myself included.
Received warning that rear drivers side taillights, reverse light, parking light, and turn signal were out. Changed all 3 bulbs related and still didn’t work. Looked at the circuit board and connector and the center pin is burned out. Searching Jeep Renegades and this is a common issue with many model years of the Jeep Renegade. This appears to be a defect the manufacturer should be responsible for through a recall.
1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the primary components that failed in my 2018 Jeep Renegade, equipped with a 2. 4l engine, include the electrical system and the fuel pump assembly. The vehicle has randomly reset its electrical equipment by morning and has turned off while driving, which stiffened the steering wheel without warning. These components should be available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? my safety and the safety of others were put at significant risk numerous times. The vehicle has randomly turned off while driving, causing the steering wheel to stiffen without any warning. This sudden loss of power and control in traffic is extremely dangerous and could easily lead to accidents. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes, the problem has been reproduced and confirmed by both a dealer and an independent service center. The dealers identified issues with the electrical system resetting and the engine turning off unexpectedly, but solutions have been inconsistent. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? yes, the vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer and the dealership. The manufacturer has been notified of these issues, and the dealership performed diagnostic tests, but the problem persists despite their interventions. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no, there were no warning lamps or messages prior to the failures. The electrical system would reset by morning without any prior indication, and the vehicle would turn off while driving with no warning signs. These issues have occurred intermittently since I purchased the vehicle, putting me in dangerous situations multiple times.
The grounding wire in the wiring harness of the driver's side, rear light assembly has melted. According to owner forums on the internet, there aren umerous reports of this being a problem.
Both fog lights have had to be replace due to the inside reflectors getting so hot, the bulbs are melting them with the potential to cause a fire. This vehicle is a 2015 bought brand new and has 52000 miles on it.
My 2022 Jeep Renegade VIN tag: zacnjdb18npn57950 has had another issue pop up, I’m still having the vehicle shutdown and other issues. But recently I lost my headlights on now 3 different occasions starting on 12/18/2023, now about a week ago I lost both front daytime running lights both front marker lights and both front signal lights all at the same time. I was told by bay Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram in panama city, FL it happens but when I called my dealership back in connecticut papa’s Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram they told me I might loose a light or 2 but now all 6 at the same time and definitely not led’s with these extremely low hours on it. They thought it might be a voltage surge or something like that, I was told to take it into them and have a diagnostic done and also have the lights changed under warranty because led lights should last at least 15,000hrs not 500hrs - 1000hrs or around that. If it was lightbulbs and not leds, I could understand but leds are a minimum 15,000 hours and we’re way under that. I want someone to step in and get this dealt with before I call an attorney. I’m driving around right now with no front daytime running lights both front marker lights and both front signal lights out, I was stopped by a police officer today and told I should have it recalled just for the signal lights alone because that’s a safety issue. Oncoming vehicles cannot see which direction I’m turning because I have no signal lights, we need to get this addressed yesterday. Also I would’ve paid for one light but I’m not gonna pay for 6 because this now I know is a serious issue with my vehicle and to have all 6 go out at the same time be serious we know unless you have a surge 6 won’t happen.

Rear brake and back up light assembly ground wire shorted and burned out. This caused all of the lights in the assembly to go out and sent multiple warnings to the dash board. This short came close to melting wires and the plastic assembly itself.
The indoor cloth paneling is peeling off due to cheap adhesive materials used by Jeep manufacturers. The filament inside the cloth paneling is falling out and getting in the air I am breathing in the car. I looked online and it seems this is a problem with many 2015-2017 Jeep Renegades and is said to be a design/material defect. This should be a recall. The head lights and right side parking light flicker and sometimes don’t come on. This may be an electrical issue that other 2015-2017 Jeep Renegade owners document having as well. The dealer wants to charge hundreds of dollars for these repairs when they are Jeep brand defects.
The rear tail light, backup light, and blinker have simultaneously quit working. After inspecting further, the connection from the electrical wiring has burned the ground connection on the rear lamp housing. The ground wire also looks to be burned.
The entire lamp needs replaced for the front passenger running light. Continues to blow lights and sockets. Estimated cost to fix is $600 and is not covered by factory warranty or most extended warranties. I see this issue with many Jeep son the road. Car will alert driver that running light is out, replace light, will blow new light within hours. Replace socket - will blow new socket. Car will also alert driver that other lights are out on the vehicle even if they are not. This speaks to a possible, more serious, wiring issue. Lights exist on a car for a reason. I should not be paying to fix shoddy workmanship by Jeep. Please, investigate how many Jeep Renegades have come in with this issue or similar. I was told by my mechanic that many Renegades have such poor light wiring that beating on the lights a few times will "maybe make them come back on". Yes, my dealership looked at the car and told me the entire lamp needs replaced for $600. Not covered by any warranties, but broken no fault of my own. This is not a wear and tear issue. This is a lighting and wiring issue which is unsafe. Yes there were warning messages, but some are false and some are true! I received warning that my plate light was out, when it is not. This running light issue is a known problem with Jeep Renegades. Please investigate furhter. This has been an ongoing issue since I certified pre-owned purchased the car with 5,000 miles on it. Took it to dealer on Monday 01/02/2023.
While running some errands, I put my left turn signal on to change lanes, and I immediately got a dashboard indication that the rear turn signal lamp was out. Curiously enough, I also had a running light out, back up light out, and brake light out indication. I went to a local parts store and purchased two correct bulbs and upon returning home, I replaced them. Didn't fix the problem. . Read more...
Notification on dashboard that driver tail light, blinker, and brake lights were not on and need to be serviced. Took the vehicle to dealership. Bulbs were replaced and still not working. Was quoted that the connector and pigtail would need to be replaced with an estimate of $700. It is safety concern to try and switch lanes without a working indicator. There was a software update issued for the electrical system instrument panel id 17v485000 that had not been completed. This software indicates a malfunction in the warning system lights. The tail light could have not been working before and the indicator light did not light up. All of the is occurred on November 17 2022.
Headlights keep going out. Multiple repairs have been done by independent service center. No warning. They have been replaced 7 times and they just keep going out.
Left rear brake light, blinker and reverse light stopped working simultaneously. Bulbs replaced, so not operating. Found multiple complaints online and discovered the ground to the tail light was burnt and the board and pigtail connector had to be replaced.
Oil consumption, electrical problems like lights flickering, fuel odor, brake light olways on.
The drivers side fog light reflector was melted and charred like it was nearly on fire. There was no silver coating on the plastic reflector and it looks like the plastic was absorbing all the heat of the bulb.
Fog light wiring issue front drivers side. Changed light. It happens to be in the wiring and I’ve heard other people have issues with this and it is a safety concern based on not being able to see or have people see you in the fog.
Fuel pump has a hard time engaging. Truck will not start after filling gas tank. Also if you hit a bump the radio station in electrical systems go out.
Shortly after purchasing my vehicle I was informed that one of my lights had “blown out” but upon further inspection the light still works but is very dim due to a black lense. I recently noticed that the other light is starting to turn black also. My mother has a 2017 Jeep Renegade and one of hers is also having this issue.
Parking/daylight continually goes out after repeated replacement of the bulb. I will have the vehicle available upon request. I have had it inspected by the dealer and third party services each and every time all they do is replace the bulb. It's only been 1 month since I last had the bulb replaced (but I've had it replaced 3 times this year). . Read more...
Went to change the rear left side lights, (tail, tunr signal and brake). Found that the circuit board holding the lights and the connector pin was burned. The connector pin was actually melted. Research this on-line and found that numerous complaints regarding these circuit boards and connectors have this same problem. Reached out to Jeep and no comments from them. The only place to find a replacement circuit board and connector is on e-bay. Cannot find it elsewhere.
Had this car since 2016,only 39,289miles,no problems whatsoever, and then I did this recall thing the 12th of July 2021,and today the 14th of July 2021 I have an engine light on,I have this horrible noise when I turn it on,I am so pissed and mad!!!really mad!!!techs should not touch anything else than whats is called for to be fixed!!!I feel that when we take the cars they mess things out so we,the customers have to end up putting money since is free, they need customers to go back and spend on something that it didn’t needed it from the beginning!!!like I said 6yrs and not a problem, even have a multi point inspection sheet that it shows everything was great!!!I am scare to take back, because now I’m going to end up paying for their mistakes/fault/unprofessional work. I am so disappointed, upset, mad. I was planning to buy there again, but now I’m re thinking bout it!it won’t get fixed I know I will end up paying, but I want to make a complaint so that way at least it will pile with other people who end up having the same problems!why do mechanics do that,or techs do it!if is not broken, don’t fix it please. They should take an integrity test and not take advantage of the situation.
My vehicle has suddenly shown warning lights for brake light out, head light out, both turn signals out, running lights out. Basically saying all my lights suddenly burnt out. There is a recall on 2017 Jeep Renegades for the exact problem I’m having but it doesn’t show my vehicle included, it says no unrepaired recalls. They have determined this can cause an accident as the lights are not really out, and so the driver has no idea when the lights actually do go out. This is dangerous.
