36 Steering problem of the 2018 Jeep Renegade

Failure Date: 03/31/2019

I was on a two lane highway on a straightaway with cruise control set at 70 miles per hour. With out warning my car turned to the right off of the highway and did not brake. I hit an embankment at full speed and rolled. I was not impaired nor did I fall asleep; however, due to injuries I sustained in the accident I have no recollection of the events causing me to leave the road. The vehicle did not skid or swerve and drove to the right until it started rolling. This vehicle should be investigated to discover possible reasons for it suddenly pulling right without brakes. Thankfully, the safety features of this vehicle saved my life, by all accounts they were expecting a fatality. I walked away with my life. I just want to know what caused this Jeep Renegade trailhawk 4x4 to suddenly turn right and not slow down as I know I would not have left the road in that manner for no reason and certainly would have been standing on the brakes and pulling to the left to avoid the embankment. I have full confidence in the Jeep brand and know that regardless of the cause of my accident, the safety features of this vehicle are amazing!.

39 Steering problem of the 2017 Jeep Renegade

Failure Date: 01/19/2019

Steering lock up. On two occasions we've had the steering lock up on our 2017 Jeep Renegade trail hawk. Fortunately, one happened at a stop sign and the other occurred when we dropped the vehicle off at the dealer for repair. When the steering locked up, our Jeep was also experiencing illumination of multiple malfunction indicator lights. There is a safety recall (t50 / NHTSA 17v-485) that specifically addresses the malfunctioning indicator lights in the 2017 Renegade. However, it only applies to Renegades built from 9 Jun 2017 through 18 Jul 2017. Unfortunately, our vehicle was built outside of this window and the service manager will not reprogram the instrument panel cluster unless it is in the vip as an open recall for this specific Renegade. I have called Jeep customer care twice on this issue and we still have no resolution.

Was in motion on city street and power steering / traction control randomly cut out causing the vehicle to loose control. This has happened several times. The power will cut the engine sometimes and other times the car just drifts and I cannot control it. I have almost seriously wrecked because of it twice.

42 Steering problem of the 2017 Jeep Renegade

Failure Date: 11/08/2018

My daughter was driving with 4 passengers on interstate 83 in pennsylvania when she heard a loud clunk, the engine light came on and she had lost most ability to steer. She fortunately was able to get the car to stop on the side. Thank god everyone was safe - this could have ended terribly. According to the mechanic and what we know so far, the bcm went bad and they are replacing (under warranty). The vehicle is a 2017 and has approximately 17,000 miles on it. How does something like this happen. We purchased the vehicle because it seemed like a reliable, safe option. This whole thing could have ended differently. You cannot be traveling on a highway and all the sudden have your car stop running. Chrysler may want to dig a little further and see if it is a recall issue.

43 Steering problem of the 2015 Jeep Renegade

44 Steering problem of the 2016 Jeep Renegade

Failure Date: 10/15/2018

I've had two separate occurrences happened to me. The first one I came to a stop sign and made a complete stop, when I went to accelerate my accelerator, brake pedal and steering wheel locked, I had to put the car on park and turn the engine off in the middle of the street, wait a moment, turn it on, it took a while to turn on but then everything went back to normal and I continued my journey. The second time, I was I was driving and slowed down to make a left turn, as I started turning my car completely stopped in the middle of the road, again, everything locked, and I almost got it with oncoming traffic. Once again I had to put the car on park and shut the engine off in the middle of traffic and wait for it to turn back on. I have no idea what is causing this but it's very dangerous and I could've been seriously injured as well as other people.

Vehicle was purchased may 16, 2016. On August 6, 2016 the vehicle completely shut off while traveling 60 mph down the interstate. The electronic traction control light came on and the 4-wheel drive lights shutoff completely. It only traveled approximately 20-30 feet before coming to a complete stop. All the lights on the dashboard came on and stayed on. After the stop, the driver was able to put the vehicle in park and attempted to restart the vehicle to remove it from the interstate. The vehicle did not restart, did not turn over; absolutely nothing happened. Shortly after the complete shutoff, the vehicle was hit by another vehicle. Now that the vehicle is in the shop, the body shop is also unable to start the vehicle. They have replaced the air bag assembly and seat belts and the light indicating the fuel shutoff is still on.

51 Steering problem of the 2015 Jeep Renegade

Failure Date: 03/15/2016

I have had the Jeep for 18 months, bought brand new, and have in shop at least 14 times. The scariest problem was when I pulled out into traffic, got up to about 35 mph and the car went into "lockdown". Car put itself into neutral, air bags turned off, brakes didn't work, and just about every other system turned off. This has happened 3 times and the 1st 3 times, they kept saying it was a software update. Turned out the engine thermostat was reading it was -40 degrees and this caused it. Now I have a service tire pressure system warning, after having to replace all 4 tires after only 28k miles. This is an unsafe vehicle and have been trying to work on lemon law in florida, but now my Jeep rep is gone and looks like I have to start the process over. Why doesn't Jeep just recognize that this is a severe safety issue and I won't let my wife or son drive this vehicle, but I need it to get to work, risking my life every time I drive it.

52 Steering problem of the 2015 Jeep Renegade

Failure Date: 08/21/2015

My transmission had been slipping in the lower gears, and especially when I turned corners. Finally the car got stuck in 5th gear, and barely goes when I hit the gas. Both the transmission and engine light came on. I am taking it in.

53 Steering problem of the 2015 Jeep Renegade

Failure Date: 07/03/2015

I purchased the car brand new and had it for 6 days. We drove from denver to breckinridge. We were coming down the mountain when the car shut off going 70 miles an hour. At one point the hydraulics went out and the brakes did not work. We pulled the car over to the side of the road. It took about 10 minutes to start up the car again. We proceeded on, thinking it was something with the altitude and was a fluke. No, it happened to us again. The same thing. The car shut off again going 70 and the brakes didn't work. It was terrifying. The car was towed back to the dealership. It needs a new transmission and associated parts, on a new car with 400 miles. If this was in the winter and the roads were icy, my family and I would have been dead.

54 Steering problem of the 2015 Jeep Renegade

Failure Date: 06/17/2015

I was on the highway when suddenly my brand new car stalled and would not shift back into gear. The car became immobilized and had to get towed back to the dealership. They replaced the fuel valve and did not test for transmission or electrical issues. Two days later the same thing happened on the highway. I took it to a different dealership and they did not know what was wrong with it, so they updated the software in the car because two updates were available. I got the car back and it broke down for a third time, again after only 2 days. The car is currently in the shop and Chrysler is reluctant to buyback the vehicle. Nobody can figure out what is wrong.
