Jeep Wagoneer owners have reported 26 problems related to automatic emergency braking (under the forward collision avoidance category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Jeep Wagoneer based on all problems reported for the Wagoneer.
While cruising on the freeway at approximately 70 miles per hour with no vehicles or objects ahead. The vehicle suddenly made a loud warning sound and flashed a message on the dash. The emergency brakes were automatically applied and nearly stopped in the middle of the freeway. The car behind had to swerve to avoid a collision. The vehicle then resumed driving forward. I was using the adaptive cruise control.

I was driving about 10mph around a turn and the motor turned off and I had to park to start the motor again. When I came to a complete stop the car engaged it's parking break and suddenly jerked forward. This has happened several times in the last year and this time I was the driver of the vehicle. It's a extreme safety issue and my wife has had it happen to her at a busy intersection more than one time.
My Jeep will randomly not let me back up as it thinks there is something behind it and automatically apply the emergency brake. I brought it to dealership when it was still under warranty for this issue and they could not figure it out. My Jeep will randomly stop as it’s driving, it will still rev when I push the pedal but it will not move in reverse or drive. The automatic shut off says it needs to be serviced and does not work. The automatic emergency braking comes on randomly if I stop. I constantly get alerts that my blind spots are blocked. I’ve cleaned sensors as the dealership has recommended which doesn’t make a difference. My lift gate will only work intermittently. Sometimes it shuts on my kids. My screen only works sometimes. Which is dangerous when I don’t have access to back up camera. I currently owe $31,000 still on this vehicle and I have 5 kids. I really need this vehicle fixed as I cannot afford to get rid of it. It has been unreliable since I’ve owned it and I’m really disappointed in this Wagoneer. It’s very expensive to insure and it’s had nothing but issues. The tow bills are becoming expensive as well.
We purchased a Jeep Wagoneer l from liberty Jeep in libertyville, IL in may of 2024 and have had issues since. The first issue was on August 25th 2024 when I was driving my vehicle it stopped in the middle of the road and turned off. I had to turn my car back on and thankfully was only a block away and drive it to my driveway with the steering stiff the whole way. After this, the Jeep had to come tow my car on August 26th. There was no warning until after it happened. Dealer had the car for one day and then said to come get it on August 27th it was fixed. My husband went to pick it up and as soon as he drove away the engine light went back on. So he turned around and brought it back in. It was in the shop from the 27th-sept 13 2024. They said it was a catalytic converter that needed to be replaced. Since purchasing the vehicle the trunk had never fully worked. We would always need to mess with it to open or close. On Nov 1 2024 the car was brought in for trunk repair. It was there until Nov 6th 2024. Well they said they fixed it and then in Feb 19 2025 it was brought back in again for the trunk. It stayed in the shop till March 4th 2025 for trunk repair. They said they fixed it again. November 3rd 2025 car was brought back in for stiff steering. When I went to turn the car steering went stiff and I couldn’t turn. I had my daughter and her three friends in the car. On top of that the navigation screen was freezing and the camera’s weren’t working. They said it needed updates with the technology and all was good. On Dec 14th 2025 the trunk wouldn’t close. It would open when I was driving my 3 kids in the car. I had to have my [xxx] son sit in the trunk to hold the trunk closed so I could get us home. Jan 17th 2026 I would be at a stop light and my car would alert me to put the car in park, turn car on and off then put it in drive then it would say abs service. This happened on a highway at a light multiple times. Someone could seriously be injured. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act.

While making a left turn on a green left turn arrow the vehicle for no reason slammed on the brakes without any notice. Causing the car to come to a violent stop. And almost causing us to be rear ended. The violent stop caused both of us injuries to our backs and necks.
At stoplight getting ready to turn left light turns green I proceed going about 15 20 mph in the middle of the intersection middle of the turn the car just slammed on its brakes. I thought I got in a car accident but looked around and there was no other cars around. This was very dangerous and could’ve been catastrophic the car now the next morning was taken to Jeep and they’ve been working on it for two days with no answers. I just bought this car eight days prior to it happening and do not want to get back in this car so I’m trying to do a buyback or lemon. Law are looking for my options for more so you and other people should be notified it’s a dangerous vehicle.
Truck has multiple electrical issues like the auto emergency braking, braking on its own had to turn feature off and now the power steering system, the steering wheel got stiff and truck turn off multiple times. Power steering light comes on then goes away after sitting off for a while.

While in the elementary school carline this morning, waiting to drop my kids off at school, my brakes completely failed unexpectedly, causing me to roll into the SUV in front of me. The line in the mornings is long and slow moving and I was stopped behind several other cars also waiting to drop their kids off — letting off the break and re-engaging the break to move forward as the line progressed. Halfway through the carline, I pushed on my break as the car in front of me had come to another complete stop, however, my break never engaged and my Wagoneer continued to roll forward without any warning or rationale. I continued to frantically push on my brakes trying to get my car to stop without them ever engaging and I rolled directly into the back of the SUV in front of me. I ultimately had to turn the gear to 'park' to prevent the car from continuing to move forward. After sitting for a second and shifting it back into drive, I did not experience another issue, however drove straight home and have not driven it again out of fear. My brake fluid was replaced less than 3 months ago and my pads and rotors are in great shape. There is zero reason this could have happened. I have an appointment with the mechanic (corwin Jeep) tomorrow morning to look into the issue. Thankfully no damage was done to either car based on how slowly we were moving (1-2mph) but I cannot stress enough how catastrophic this could have been had a child been walking in front of my car, or had I been driving on the open road. This needs to be looked into urgently and a recall issued if others are reporting this same problem.
For the third summer in a row, this vehicle has had a "hybrid/battery/engine" issue which has caused the vehicle to stop in the middle of traffic, specifically at start/stop intersections during high traffic times - the first time was on a vacation road trip about 600 miles away from home, the second time was in town while we had our three kids in the vehicle, and this most recent time thankfully I was alone driving home from work in rush hour. The vehicle shuts off, battery and check engine lights are illuminated and the vehicle must be stopped, restarted, and turned back on in order to move away from the middle of traffic. This is the third incident of this happening with Jeep warranty covering the first two repairs due to it being the hybrid/battery system. I am now waiting for two weeks before the dealer can even diagnoze the issue to undrstand what our next steps might be.
This vehicle has presented a myriad of electrical problems as follows: 1. Glitching in the central display panel. Slow to turn on, flickers at times. 2. Alm (active lane management) system randomly and suddenly turning off. Often unable to turn the alm system back on while driving. The same issue with the adaptive cruise control system. 3. Vehicle sensors showing "unavailable" on the driver's display screen. 4. Vehicle was completely dead due to both batteries dying (main and auxillary) 5. Engine ran hot after a short period of time. Temperature reached as high as 253 degrees, then the engine overheating sign came on, followed by low oil pressure notification. Oil pressure dropped to at least 21 psi 6. There were no warning messages prior to any of these incidents occurring. 7. Auto emergency braking (aeb) would randomly engage for no apparent reason. 8. Alm unavailable service required message would randomly show up. 9. Front passenger screen would not come on, when the screen had seldomly been used. 10. The engine jumps every so often while driving. This is unrelated to the engine automatice stop feature when the vehicle is stopped. 11. A/c system is faulty. The "auto" button does not automatically adjuster the temperature or the fan speed when it is in use. I've had this issue since I purchased the vehicle. Reported to dealership more than once and it's still unresolved. 12. Driver's side window will remain stuck in the down position after window has been lowered. You have to turn the vehicle off and on for this to reset and window starts to operate again. Dealership cannot duplicate and this has happened more than once. 13. Stop/start not ready engine temperature too low message would randomly pop up at times. 14. When engine cranked, various dislay signs appeared on the driver's panel and would not allow me to use the brakes. 15. The vehicle has been in the shop since July 11th. No loaner vehicle was provided. Incidents cover various dates.
With only 4811 miles on our Jeep Wagoneer, it had total brake failure causing my wife to drive thru a stop sign avoiding pedestrians. I had it towed by Jeep roadside assistance to st. Clair Chrysler Jeep in st. Clair mi. On [xxx]. A week later on [xxx] I was told to come pick up the car and that it was repaired. The porter went to move the car and again total brake failure. The vehicle was again repaired and when I went to get it, I asked if the brakes were guaranteed to work and no one would say that they were. This car model has a lot of brake issues and I can't have my family drive in it anymore, I traded it in on another new car but lost $14. 000 in depreciation do to brakes. This is not my fault. The car randomly loses communication with power steering module and locks the steering column. This car has been in shop 6 times for it happening. Creates very unsafe situation as I’m unable to steer car to safety.
Vehicle has now put itself into park and applied the parking brake while moving 3 times and requiring restart to move. Dealer and manufacturer unconcerned because they cannot duplicate. But it’s had numerous other issues too.
Concerns: electrical is slow to respond the screen. The turn knob is a huge safety concern. The turn know sometime doesn’t not click or stay in park. The vehicle will lunge. The knob is easy hot accidentally hit and move out of the gear causing the auto brake to jerk the car to a stop. The getting the brake release to get car back in gear is slow to unlock. Sometimes I have to turn the car completely off. Turn it back on then do the break release and start all over. The auto break has actually stopped in the middle of the road for no reason and I’m lucky. I just didn’t get hit from behind and I had nothing to do with the turn knob. The auto stop is very sensitive. I turn it off almost 100% of the time like when you’re at a stop sign because when it comes back on, it’ll jerk the car. I’m just very disappointed in the Wagoneer as a customer. I’ll look forward to the day that I can replace this car.
The main head unit for the infotainment system, specifically the software. Upon failing a software update in August 2024, the vehicle started switching itself from english to italian, from standard to metric units, the high beams would no longer function, the auto locking doors after 15mph would no longer work, the emergency pedestrian sensing braking was turned off, the entire infotainment screen randomly shuts off and comes back on as well. Without readily available high beams my ability to see further distances at night was diminished. 2)the uninitiated change in language and units of measure made it more difficult to verify vehicle speed and other important settings with intervention to return the system to english. 3) largest concern, auto locks not turning on, without notifying the driver, left my young children at risk of opening the back doors and falling out of the vehicle at high speeds. The dealership has tried to fix this twice, they have updated the software to current version and reset the system. They also reset the customer programmable features, which corrected the issue with the high beams, but the other issues with software remain, including the auto locks at speed, language change, units change and screen shutting off and on. I have also contacted Jeep customer service, they do not have a remedy in place and verified the software is up to date. After reviewing Jeep Wagoneer forums, this is effecting many owners of the Wagoneer after that fall 2024 update, and all the dealerships are scratching their heads. But without autolocks at speed, this is a big issue. No warning lights came on to let me know, and the bug seems to be in all software versions for the Wagoneer from fall 2024 to current.
The truck is shutting off on it own while driving it has happen about 5 times already dealership cannot keep the issue and keep returning the vehicle to me. I feel unsafe for me and my family to be driving this vehicle. And Jeep services is no help. I have a case manager who keeps selling me. There's nothing they can do.
Brakes completely went out, needed a brake module, received the vehicle back and the brake light is on.
Driving down the road no cars close in front of or behind me. All sensors on Jeep were clean and not obstructed. Radio started making weird noises and the emergency brakes completely locked up. Vehicle behind me was a truck pulling a trailer and nearly crashed into my car. I had to turn the car on off a couple times before I could move again.
The vehicle was bought June 2023, starting September 2023 we have had continual electrical problems. The blind spot warning system constantly activates and takes over. The automatic braking system randomly activates for no reason. The car will go into full braking and stop. This will happen at all speeds to include highway speeds. Now I am getting check engine lights and the code changes every time the light activates. When we take it to the dealership for service all we get is "we can't replicate the issue" and nothing is fixed. I ran a car fax and found that instead of coding the problem that it was brought in for, Jeep has coded it as maintenance inspection or electrical system checked. This is even when modules, radios or electrical systems have been replaced. I have a feeling that Jeep is coding this way to avoid recalls or to hide problems. I would think this constitutes fraud. My Jeep has serious electrical issues that Jeep will not address. I am stuck driving it as it is my only vehicle.
After very minor accident the car crash symbol and the car in lane symbol came on and will not turn off. Took to dealer and they said there was no update to correct the problem. Feel unsafe in a car that should be safe since it's new. And has error message of limited functionality.
I started my 2022 series ll Wagoneer in my driveway and began driving away. I realized I forgot something and had to run back into my house. My 82 year old mother in law was I. The passenger seat and remained there while I ran in the house. I opened my drivers side door, left the Jeep running and left the door open while I ran inside. I was inside maybe 30 seconds and when I walked out the door my Jeep was driving by itself up my driveway with the door wide open and my mother in law seat buckled in the passenger side screaming. The Jeep drove until it landed on its side in a large ditch with the other side up in the air. When I ran to the Jeep the gear shift knob was in park. I got my mother in law out by her crawling across the middle and the driver seat. I have this all on video from home security cameras. I had the Jeep pulled out by tow truck and I drove it to the dealership. They had it for over a week the first time for this and they said during the time they had it , it would intermittently work as it should , then not work the next time but had no answers or resolution bc there were no codes that came up. So it was sent back to me with no resolution. It still does not work as should when tested. Also now it will at any given time totally shut off while sitting at a red light and give no warning other than when I go to accelerate when the light turns green, it will roll backwards and the gear shift says park but the dash says d1. This has happened several times now and I have to hurry and restart the vehicle with cars honking behind me and almost causing accidents. These are the two major issues amongst many smaller but significant issues.
Abs lock up and collision avoidance system (blindspot sensor) failures - the vehicle has been serviced unsuccessfully 5 times now for shaking and vibration on the highway, software failures and blind spot collision avoidance sensor failures. Twice since I picked it up at the dealership on Saturday 9/17 (5th visit), the abs has noted a system failure on the dash. It also shut down the collision avoidance system several times after noting a blindspot sensor failure. However, today after it noted the abs failure, the brakes locked up the rear tires while braking. I reached out to Wagoneer on Saturday, and again twice today by phone and once by email to the rep at fca and have not gotten a return call or email.
As I was pulling up to a red light, the vehicle threw itself into park and completely stopped and would not move. I was unable to put gear into drive. Thankfully, I was not going at full speed. After a couple minutes, I was able to put my foot on brake to restart the car. At this point, the engine and battery light were on as well. My fear is what would have happened had the brake auto-engaged at full speed or the highway? there were no issues with this prior to this happening. It has been taken to dealership for repair and has been escalated with a star case to get additonal engineer input. Given the dangerous nature of what occured, I wanted to report now even though I'm not sure what the resolution will be to fix it.
I leased a brand new 2022 Jeep Wagoneer. On August 5, 2022, day 5 of having the vehicle it had a major safety incident. While I was driving the vehicle through an intersection it came to a very sudden and extremely aggressive stop with no warning. The stop was so sudden and extreme that my daughter and I thought that we had been hit by another vehicle, but there were no other vehicles around. After the abrupt stop in the middle of the intersection, the Wagoneer started beeping repetitively and it would not allow me to move out of the intersection. Luckily no one was behind us and I was able to get the vehicle out of the intersection. After the incident I had the vehicle towed back to the dealership and it has been there ever since. Due to the abrupt stop I ended up going to the doctor the next day as my neck, shoulders and lower back were very sore. I am now terrified of this vehicle and I cannot trust it. The dealership says that there is nothing wrong with it and therefor they cannot fix it. After the incident happened I immediately drove it to a parking lot. When I got to the parking lot I turned the vehicle off and when I tried to turn it back on the emergency brake was locked up and I could not drive the vehicle. After several attempts I was finally able to get the emergency brake to release. On day two of having the vehicle I was driving on the freeway with both hands on the wheel and the vehicle started beeping and braking and telling me to put both hands on the wheel, even though they were. There were no other cars close to me at the time and this was startling and very distracting.
The first instance I was pulling out of the driveway. When I got to the end I tried to turn my steering wheel and it was completely locked. The alert started going off to service the lane assiatiance. I couldn’t move the tires at all. I turned the car off and re started it multiple times to try to get it to unlock. After about 5 times it unlocked but still said to service the lance assistance. Called dealership they made an appointment 2-3 weeks out to look at it. Two weeks later driving at 35-40mph alert goes off that brake system needs to be serviced the car kicked on the parking break within seconds and steering wheel locked. I had two children in the car. We feared for our lives. Once pulled over the car was kicked into 4wd low on top of all the other things. Called dealership and they sent me to voicemail. Didn’t return call for hours. After restarting the car multiple times I was able to drive it to the dealership. I could only imagine how bad this could have ended up. Still no word on what exactly happened. I’m currently in a loaner.
On 3 occasions over last month the emergency parking brake has engaged while vehicle was in motion. Twice at low speed below 10 mph and one at approx 20 mph. The incidents caused near rear end collisions on 2 occasions.
