Electrical System Problems of Jeep Wagoneer - part 2

The vehicle indicated to stop and pull over when attempting to start it in the garage, it was not moving. It made a terrible grinding noise. Towed to the dealer with a failed battery and need to replace the motor generator unit (mgu), part of its etorque mild-hybrid system. The part is on back order for more than 45 days as there are more than 282 failures reported. This is a 2022 Jeep Wagoneer that the dealership is saying is out of warranty and will charge me $4,000 to fix.

For the third summer in a row, this vehicle has had a "hybrid/battery/engine" issue which has caused the vehicle to stop in the middle of traffic, specifically at start/stop intersections during high traffic times - the first time was on a vacation road trip about 600 miles away from home, the second time was in town while we had our three kids in the vehicle, and this most recent time thankfully I was alone driving home from work in rush hour. The vehicle shuts off, battery and check engine lights are illuminated and the vehicle must be stopped, restarted, and turned back on in order to move away from the middle of traffic. This is the third incident of this happening with Jeep warranty covering the first two repairs due to it being the hybrid/battery system. I am now waiting for two weeks before the dealer can even diagnoze the issue to undrstand what our next steps might be.

When starting the vehicle, the instrument panel cluster freezes on the start screen, eliminating the ability to see fuel level, speed, engine temperature. This has been reported to the dealership and examined by them. Although this was reported months ago, there has been no communication from the dealership. The dealer indicated that I am not alone in having this issue. Thankfully, it has always reset to date, but it is not safe to drive when in this configuration. There are no warnings before it happens. There is no pattern as to when it happens.

This vehicle has presented a myriad of electrical problems as follows: 1. Glitching in the central display panel. Slow to turn on, flickers at times. 2. Alm (active lane management) system randomly and suddenly turning off. Often unable to turn the alm system back on while driving. The same issue with the adaptive cruise control system. 3. Vehicle sensors showing "unavailable" on the driver's display screen. 4. Vehicle was completely dead due to both batteries dying (main and auxillary) 5. Engine ran hot after a short period of time. Temperature reached as high as 253 degrees, then the engine overheating sign came on, followed by low oil pressure notification. Oil pressure dropped to at least 21 psi 6. There were no warning messages prior to any of these incidents occurring. 7. Auto emergency braking (aeb) would randomly engage for no apparent reason. 8. Alm unavailable service required message would randomly show up. 9. Front passenger screen would not come on, when the screen had seldomly been used. 10. The engine jumps every so often while driving. This is unrelated to the engine automatice stop feature when the vehicle is stopped. 11. A/c system is faulty. The "auto" button does not automatically adjuster the temperature or the fan speed when it is in use. I've had this issue since I purchased the vehicle. Reported to dealership more than once and it's still unresolved. 12. Driver's side window will remain stuck in the down position after window has been lowered. You have to turn the vehicle off and on for this to reset and window starts to operate again. Dealership cannot duplicate and this has happened more than once. 13. Stop/start not ready engine temperature too low message would randomly pop up at times. 14. When engine cranked, various dislay signs appeared on the driver's panel and would not allow me to use the brakes. 15. The vehicle has been in the shop since July 11th. No loaner vehicle was provided. Incidents cover various dates.

With only 4811 miles on our Jeep Wagoneer, it had total brake failure causing my wife to drive thru a stop sign avoiding pedestrians. I had it towed by Jeep roadside assistance to st. Clair Chrysler Jeep in st. Clair mi. On [xxx]. A week later on [xxx] I was told to come pick up the car and that it was repaired. The porter went to move the car and again total brake failure. The vehicle was again repaired and when I went to get it, I asked if the brakes were guaranteed to work and no one would say that they were. This car model has a lot of brake issues and I can't have my family drive in it anymore, I traded it in on another new car but lost $14. 000 in depreciation do to brakes. This is not my fault. Without any warning my car will power off, then power on while I've been stopped at a light and getting ready to make a left turn. Incident has occurred on 3 separate occasions.

We were driving and approaching a stop light at a major intersection when the vehicle stalled out. We heard it sputter at first and then cut off. We tried multiple times to restart, but to no avail—just kept sputtering. This is the second time this has happened. The first time was also reported to NHTSA, and I was driving alone and ascending a colorado mountain when it stalled out. Thankfully, both times, we were able to remain safe; however, this is a huge problem as both times we were on major roads.

While driving my 2023 Jeep Wagoneer on 12 Jun 2025 I stopped at an intersection preparing to make a right turn. When I took my foot off the brake and prepared to accelerate, the vehicle abruptly turned off and lost all power and control. The instrument cluster said to shift to park in order to restart. I was able to restart the vehicle and drove it immediately to the Jeep dealership service. The dealership immediately scanned it, but was unable to diagnose the issue. We drove the vehicle back to our home and are now afraid to drive it due to concern over the vehicle shutting down while driving.

The contact owns a 2024 Jeep Wagoneer. The contact stated that while approaching a stop with his foot on the brake pedal, the vehicle shut off once slowed down to 1-3 mph. As a result of the failure, the contact was forced to restart the vehicle, with the power steering and check engine warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the pcm (powertrain control module) was reset, and the software was updated. Despite the repair, the contact stated that the failure returned immediately while driving the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and remained with the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 150.

The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Wagoneer. The contact stated that several unknown lights on the instrument cluster were illuminated and flashing. Additionally, the headlights were flashing, and the camera screen was blank. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, additional force was needed to stop the vehicle. There was an abnormal horn sound detected. The contact stated that the engine overheated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was jump-started. The contact was locked out on several occasions. The contact stated that the third-row seat had folded her child up while parental controls were enabled. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where the battery was replaced, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, charbonneau car center (346 1st street west dickinson, nd 58601); who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

Breaks, engine and transmission as well as radio and screen (electrical).

The vehicle is stalling. The vehicle has been to the dealership three times and they cannot figure out the issue. The vehicle has only been inspected by dealership. There was no warning lamps or message of this issue. The issues started two weeks after we purchased the vehicle.

Leaving for work this morning and reversed out of parking spot, tried to pull out onto a busy road and almost died. The car just kinda rolled forward a bit and would not accelerate or do anything! the ignition switch was blinking. I could not reverse or go forward or put it in park, the gear shifter lights were all blinking as well. I couldn’t shut the car off to restart it. I could not change gears or go anywhere but sit in the middle of an intersection with cars approaching me at a high rate of speed. It took approx 2 min for the car to do anything. It finally allowed me to shut it off and restart. Check engine light on. I reversed back into the parking lot I had exited from and drove it around to make sure I could accelerate onto this road where people do 70mph. I’m extremely lucky I did not get t-boned. I have read about this issue escalating to the car having this problem and told my dealership about this when I was having the check engine light issues mentioned below. I really do not feel safe in this car now after getting stuck in an intersection. Prior issue with Wagoneer, it’s been to the dealership at least 4x for this: bumps you back into park when you try to reverse and then the check engine light comes on. I have to shut the car off, open my door, restart, and then it’ll go into gear and check engine light remains on until I bring it in or sometimes after driving a bit it goes off itself. There was some known issue with possible problems with the transmission regulator valve so they switched that out and said that should take care of the issue. But check engine light on again. It now progressed into being completely disabled at an intersection today.

While driving at lows speeds approaching a stop light the vehicle will just shut off and shift into park. I have to hit the brakes, make sure its in park, and hit the start button, it restarts then doesn't do it until randomly later it does it again. There is a check engine light on.

We bought the vehicle new in 2022. There have been intermittent issues with emergency braking while going in reverse that we wrote off to sensor issues and never reported. Last weekend the electrical system went haywire. Lots of flashing lights, sounds under the dash, etc. Engine quit and would not start. Was able to get to the dealership after changing the battery. Battery warning light and check engine light never cleared. Dealership is saying it is the 48v battery issue so I wanted to report it.

The Wagoneer while driving twice has shut off, gone into park, and emergency break turned on. The problem is shutting off on its own while driving. This could cause a wreck obviously if happens at a higher rate of speed. Thankfully both times I was at about 5-10mph and nobody was behind me.

For the past five months, the vehicle has stalled nearly every other day, including while backing out of driveways or parking spaces and when slowing to stop. Each time, the engine suddenly shuts off without warning, the transmission automatically shifts into park, and the emergency brake engages. An engine warning light appears with a “battery fault” message. The repeated engine shutdowns and automatic braking create a serious safety risk, particularly when backing into traffic or stopping at intersections. In several instances, the vehicle would not restart for several minutes, leaving it disabled in the roadway. The vehicle has been taken twice to the authorized Jeep dealership in stonecrest, georgia, but the service department was unable to reproduce or correct the issue. The problem persists, and the “battery fault” light continues to appear intermittently. I have had nothing but issues with the electrical part of this Wagoneer. For months the blind spot alert system has flashed on for no reason. And then it sets an entire host of sensors off that beep continuously on and off while driving down the road. My car has been with the dealership for going on 4 weeks with no fix.

Vehicle will randomly lose all throttle power when driving and at the same time following a warning beep will flash a large red lightning bolt with the following messages: service electronic throttle control,stop/start unavailable service stop/start system, service electronic stability control and check engine light. Engine continues to run but car will not move. Once vehicle is able to be pulled over to the side of the road and turned off then cranked back up the vehicle will drive normally. Check engine light will stay on for several key cycles then it will eventually go away. This has happened at intersections and at speed on the interstate. Repair of this issue with the vehicle has been attempted 4 times and is currently at the dealership now for the 5th time and the diagnosis is that they can replace the throttle module but there are not codes pointing to that as the issue and it was stated that is is just a guess and I can then drive it and hope that it is repaired. The vehicle has been to two different dealerships for the issue as the 4th occurrence was too far away from home to get it back and it was only 319 miles between failures. The issue has not been taken seriously by the dealerships nor the customer care agents that have been contacted through the last 3 occurrences. The agent has been helpful in getting a rental or loaner to drive and delivering my vehicle back but the gravity of the problem has not been fully grasped by those examining the vehicle. The only reason this has not resulted in a crash is that each time it has occurred a space to get off the road was accessible. This will not be the case if the vehicle is continued to be driven. I did continue to drive the vehicle with the hope that the repairs would have been adequate to prevent the issue from reoccurring. This issue began in September 2024 at 30k with most recent 5th time noted below.

While driving, coming to a stop & starting from full stop at lights, car shut itself down. After 6 separate events it happened whislt in motion. Exvept this time it engaged the e break, park break, killed power steering, locked the steering wheel, reset all systems and put itself in park. All while travelling at 25mph. The vehicle jacknifed and bodilly injury sustained by driver.

Dec 17, 2024 2022 Wagoneer was dropped of for service for a slight rattle in the engine. It was determined that the cams and shifters were “over-torqued” and had thrown metal shavings into the engine. This would require a full engine replacement which was conducted over the course of nearly 4 months. This is a reported and known issue/defect for Wagoneer. It was picked up March 28, 2025. On April 11, 2025 I experienced a full mechanical and/or electrical catastrophic failure while driving. The vehicle would not accelerate or brake. Multiple warnings and failures lit up the dash: service engine, oil pressure, throttle, etc. The emergency brake engaged, the engine very loudly shook, rattled and died. When trying to engage brake to put vehicle in neutral to be towed we heard a series of clicks and a pop and the engine began to smoke near drivers side. Stellantis refuses to acknowledge the recurring issues in these engines and continues to deny our buy back claim. These vehicles are dangerous. This experience violates every customer protection in this country and stellantis should be held accountable for taking millions of dollars from customers knowing this issue is recurring. We are still hoping for a positive resolution.

We issued a complaint on 12/2/2024 (#11628353). The dealership found our alternator to be faulty which caused the battery to fail the SUV to completely shut down. This happened again to us on 4/6/2025 with a full vehicle of passengers. The low battery warning appeared on the screen, we lost power steering, we lost our ability to brake, there is no emergency break when all systems are shutting down and then we lost all power to the vehicle. This all happened in a matter of 2 minutes. Thank god we were on a side road without any cars parked on the side of the road for us to pull over on. Stellantis needs to resolve these safety issues. We had elderly people with us during this last incedent, they were all scared. It is getting dangerous owning and operating a 2022 Jeep Wagoneer.

On 2 occasions, the car has shut down at a stop and killed the engine. Car had to be placed in park and restarted. Most recently, the car suddenly shut off while moving. The control panel flashed low battery and shut down systems. It disabled the power steering and shut down all power including the engine, thankfully this didn't cause an accident, but would have been a very dangerous situation if traveling at higher speed . Car couldn't be restarted, when trying to it would shift itself from drive to park and die again. After about 30 minutes, the car started when jumped. All gauges read correctly and didn't indicate any low battery issues. When in for service approximately 2 weeks ago, dying at a stop was discussed with the dealer and they said they weren't aware of any issues and would need to keep the car for potentially weeks to diagnose the issue. That issue was is far less severe than dying while moving. Attempting to get in for service ASAP. Looks like there is already an open investigation into the issue.

Speedometer & gauges will randomly blackout and not work and it causes the engine to do funny things while driving. Battery drains from the issues (stranded twice even after new batteries installed). Rear view camera sometimes glitches as well and freezes up.

The vehicle wouldn't start once I started it the start stop light warning lamp illuminated. When I got to the redlight it stopped and shut off. I had the battery checked and it was ok but the auxilary battery was drained. I had the software updated a couple months back on a recall. It has a TSB u0485-00 that may be the problem. Stellantis has several star online pubs about it. They say since it had 36600 miles and was in canada first for 10000 miles they won't fix it the cost is mine unless there is a recall. They said they has been hundreds of people with the problem but not enough for the recall.

On 2/11/2025 while at a stop light the vehicle stalled and I had to restart the vehicle when the light turned green. An hour later it happened again. At that point my husband and I took my Wagoneer to the dealership. They determined the vehicle needed a new battery. Then on 2/13/2025 I went to my vehicle in the garage and it had "bricked out". I could not start it at all. I had to have a tow truck bring the vehicle back to the dealership and they again replaced the battery. On 11/26/2025 again while at a stop light the vehicle stalled and I had to restart the vehicle when the light turned green. A little while later on the same day I was at a stop light and I felt the vehicle start to stall, but the light turned green so I stepped firmly on the gas and the vehicle hesitantly went forward. This issue is recurring despite the dealership's efforts to address it.

The second row easy entry keeps failing. The easy entry goes out and throws the seat forward. Person in seat has to force the seat down. Immediately after stopping and passenger getting out the seat is forced forward unable to latch until after shoving it back a few times. Warning on driver panel comes on to check second row seat. We have taking the car in twice and it continues to fail. Very unsatisfactory for a 85k vehicle. My children are afraid to sit in this seat due to it being unsafe and the seat belt being the only thing holding it down while in motion. Dealer said its a sensor that is going out. We are going on are third trip to the dealer. Would have been more but seams to reset itself every now and then. Forcing us to reschedule to maintenance visit.

While sitting at a stop light my vehicle started malfunctioning and put itself into park. Several different warnings came across the screen and I was unable to change gears or start my car for a while. Finally my car allowed me to push the break and restart the vehicle. A warning light came on with an “a!” but then was no longer on the screen once I turned my vehicle off and back on.

While at a stop light, with start/stop active, I released the brake, which should have "reactivated" the car. Instead, it shut down. I got a quick transmission service error on the dash. Once I put the car in park and turned it off and then on again, it functioned properly. I. The meantime I was being honked at from everyone missing the green light behind me.

Vehicle purchased on September 7, 2022, with 16,182 miles. It was sold to me with an open recall. Late December 2023, I complained about car not starting on a frequent basis. Roadside assistance was called to jumpstart battery. Every time the vehicle was jumpstarted the check engine light remained on for days to up to two weeks. January 5, 2023, vehicle went to repair shop, techs claimed nothing was wrong, vehicle returned to repair shop 5x within a 4-to-5-month period for the repair shop to decide it needed a new auxiliary battery. Unfortunately, the fix was temporary as it began to fail again and now leaving me on the road stuck. I drive, I stop at a stop sign or red light, or intersection as I move to turn, car shut off. Almost causing several accidents. I was on the highway when my gps started glitching and shut off, turn back on and some of my safety icons would stop functioning. I strongly believe this car has major electrical issues that the repair shop cannot seem to find what is actually causing the battery to fail or die. When a repair is done the main issue is never totally corrected and other issues arise. November 9, 2024, vehicle went to repair shop, again they can't seem to find what's wrong. November 18, 2024, it was towed again for same issue, it is now January 12, 2025, and my vehicle is still in the shop. About a week ago they told me that "they think was causing the battery to fail is the sideboard that seems to not work properly" and they cannot guaranty me that that's it. I asked the repair shop for the multi VIN summary report, and I am at total disbelief at the amounts of visits this vehicle has been in the repair shop before I purchased this vehicle. Since I purchased this vehicle, it has 12 confirmed repair visits, with 3-4 recalls and not to mention the visits that's nothing wrong was found. Prior owner had 6 repairs and 2 recalls. Totally unsafe on the road!.

For the last six months (since Dec. 2024) my Jeep has randomly stalled out at traffic lights or won’t restart immediately after having just driven it. Sometimes when it stalls out while driving into a traffic light it will restart without a jump but then the check engine light is on for a few drives then eventually turns off. This happens once or twice a month and typically requires a jump to get the car started. I have had the battery, alternator and started checked multiple times. A Jeep dealership has reviewed and could find no issues with the car. The safety issue is being stalled out at a light or anywhere on the road randomly puts myself, my passengers and other drivers at risk.

In December 2024 I received a check engine light with a locked code that disappeared after a short distance. The vehicle would not auto start from the key and we thought it was a battery . In February 2025 while on a trip I received a warning light for power steering fluid we went to a parts store and topped up the power steering fluid . On [xxx] I was driving the vehicle at 55mph while I had my [xxx] and [xxx] in the car as well as heavily pregnant along with my [xxx] grandmother . I pulled away from a traffic light and the dash board lights lit up completely check engine, stability, abs, emergency brake ,traction ,crash detection . I went to use the brakes and to change lanes and while doing so I lost brakes and power steering causing me to have to use a grass verge to bring the vehicle to a stop as the brake pedal was to the floor and the emergency brake was not engaging even though the light was lit on the dash. Had I not pulled into grass to stop I would have been in a catastrophic accident. I took the vehicle to 2 Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram dealerships who could not fix the vehicle so took it to a 3rd dealership who were able to get brakes and power steering back into the vehicle . Upon trying to pick up the vehicle within 24 - 48 hours I received a check engine light for brake pressure sensor the dealership have opened 6 star cases with Jeep regarding this issue and just keep storing the code and returning the vehicle to me. When I take the vehicle to a auto zone or advance parts store with a check engine light the code is stored 4+ times with a red banner advising customer to not drive vehicle due to possible brake failure . I am 4 months into not having my vehicle and still have a check engine light for brake pressure sensor which has now been changed 4 times as well as the whole brake system. Jeep are not assisting with anything other than keep telling the dealership to change the pressure sensor and re bleed the brake system.
