Failure Date: 01/26/2018

Our 2008 Jeep Wrangler, while parked, with no outstanding issues, having come from the Chrysler Jeep dealership in freehold NJ just 3 days prior, burst into flames while parked. No fumes, overheating or other problems occurred during the 1 hr trip to the parking spot. Car was engulfed in flames, all down to metal. Completely lost due to fire/heat. Firemen were on the scene to put out flames but all was lost. Fire is a mystery to us. Always serviced at Jeep dealers, so all recalls should have been addressed when VIN input for servicing.

7 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2018

Jan 24 2018. I am driving my Jeep jk 2008. 103,000 miles. Stock everything. Was driving it all day in the everglades. All of a sudden as we were exiting the park my brakes stopped working and lights on the dash came on. We were going no faster than 35 mph. All of a sudden there was smoke coming from around the car. We ope the hood there is a fire in the engine area by all of the wiring. We attempted to put it out but it quickly engulfed the entire truck and I had to stand back and watch my entire Jeep burn to the ground!!!!! there was nothing to tell me this was going to happen or to warn me! Jeep needs to be responsible for this. We have burns on our arms. The car burned all the way to the ground. All of my belongings are gone from the fire.

15 Body problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2015

I was on 75 south bound going 70 mph. I had just gotten on the interstate from the bruce b downs entrance. After the right lane ended I switched to the middle lane. Coming up to fletcher exit, the gears changed. Almost like the car gave out. I looked down, I didn't change anything. On my way to look back up I see smoke from the hood and smoke through the rare view mirror. Grey smoke in the front and black in the back. I looked down at the gages and it was over heating. Looked to my left, no cars, pulled over to the left emergency lane. As I opened my door, the fire was already spitting out from the front left tire. I grabbed my phone. As I'm walking away, the fire was growing engulfing the whole front of the vehicle. Within minutes, law enforcement arrived on scene and we watched the whole vehicle go up in flames. At first 2 fire trucks put out the fire. Once they left and we were waiting for the tow truck to arrive, it caught fire again. The state trooper had to call the fire department to come back out. Before the fire started, there wasn't a noise or a light blinking to indicate a problem. The vehicle felt the same as it always did. Everything just happened fast and all at once. I never got any recall notices. I had the Jeep for 2 months. Insurance company never did an investigation because there was nothing left to investigate. I never called Chrysler because I didn't have proof who was at fault. I have never heard of this being an issue with Jeeps until I bought my new car and the sales rep looked me in the eyes told me it was manufacturer defect. It happened to 2 of his former clients. Told me Chrysler won't do anything because it can't be proven.

16 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2014

Filing up the tank causes gas to spew everywhere.

17 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2014

I was driving home from work on a state highway, even though posted speed limit was 65mph, traffic was heavy and I was forced to slow down to around 50 to 53 mph. When speeding back up to 55 mph my Jeep sahara shook violently and uncontrollably, I thought my vehicle was going to shake apart, I hit the breaks and went down to 50 mph (thank god no one was close behind me and did not hit me) and the shaking/wobble stopped. As traffic picked back up and I was able to speed up to 60 mph, there was no real problem (a slight shake as I past 55 mph), but as soon as I had to slow down to 55 mph the vehicle started to shake/wobble uncontrollably again. It appears if I accelerate from 0 to 55 mph I get the violent shaking/wobbling but if I go from 0 to 60-65 mph, I do not really experience the violent uncontrollably shaking, just a slight shake at the 55 mph going to 60-65 mph. If I slow down from 60-65 mph to 55 mph I get that same violent uncontrollable shaking/wobbling. This happens everyday - not randomly! I found even on non-highways, where speed limits that allow 55 mph, I get the same violent shaking. This is my only vehicle and I depend on it to get to and from work every weekday. I have read the forums and I have checked the tire pressure, it has no effect on the shaking/wobbling. I have never taken it off-road, I don't even put it in 4 wheel drive. My son has his own Jeep that he has work on for years and he looked at my Jeep (things like steering components, ball joints, tires, steering damper, etc. ) all the things Jeep owners have posted on these forums and have paid dearly for at the dealership and everything seems ok. I recently found from a Jeep forum that this is called the 'death wobble'.

18 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

I was driving down us rt. 60 headed back to phoenix arizona. During my time traveling down the road doing approximately 55-60 mph I ran over train tracks and immediately my Jeep began shaking uncontrollably. I was able to pull over my vehicle to stop violent shaking. I have looked into this on the internet and it seems to be a common problem referred to as, " death wobble. "this is the second time this has happened to me. I have owned the vehicle for 5 months. It was purchased at a Chrysler dealership.

21 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2014

Driver door mirror fell completely off vehicle while driving on a main highway. Actual arm bar oxidized and dropped off the vehicle, creating a dangerous situation for others around the vehicle as well as to me as the driver of the vehicle. I was unable to maneuver between lanes which created a major safety issue. Arm bar must be defective since it fell off the vehicle completely.

Looking under Jeep around motor area he saw flames and backed away from vehicle. The fire spread quickly and engulfed the vehicle completely and it is a total loss. The Jeep had no major issues, just something electrical happened and it was over in about 30 minutes.

24 Body problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2013

Upon filling up the vehicle, fuel rushes out of the inlet and onto the fender guard, body, and bumper and on the ground. This has happened repeatedly at every fill up. After the first three times this happened I caught as much as possible from the spill = 3 pints +. It shoots all over my hands, arm, and leg. Very dangerous and hazardous having gas all over me.

I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited(4-door model) it is a half door, not long after buying new my half doors started leaking, so went into shop 4 times, was fixed for almost a year now leaking very badley again! called Jeep they want me to pay to fix their flawed design! driving down interstate there is a 2 inch gap that opens up at highway speeds! and when it rains it comes right inside, hitting you in the face! which to me is a big safety issue, since I wear contacts really bad! and I have done research online at Jeep forums and this seems to be a common problem with the 4 door half doors. . So why should I have to pay for something they should recall? so please look into this issue for me. . . . Thanks kari.

27 Body problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2008

Purchased a brand new 08 Jeep rubicon. These have a removable top. From day one the top leaks a ridiculous amount of water. Even while your driving water will pour from the front of the windshield on the inside of the interior covering gauges and electronically components as well as causing water to run down and cover the windshield itself on the inside making it near impossible to drive in a safe manner. It is as if trying to drive without wipers. The water will also pour out from the top onto myself while driving the vehicle as well as any other passenger. Have made multiple complaints to the dealer and they "try" to fix it but always say that there is a limit to what can be done since no recall has been issued to make it a mandatory repair. I feel that any oem defect that is common in a large percent of the vehicle from day 1 that makes the car unsafe to drive or causes issues that operating the vehicle in a safe manner impossible. I feel that the company is trying to avoid spending money to fix a issue that should have never been allowed to leave the factory if they can get away with it. I just hope it does not take the loss of someone's life because of this problem to draw enough attention to make the company correct it. Not only is this bad business but a lack of respect of safety and possible the cost of human life.

28 Body problem

Soft top leaks on both side in the front. Seats getting stained and the carpet is starting to smell. Water stains on the doors, steering column, and down the dash.

29 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2008

When driving my new 2008 Jeep Wrangler sahara on the highway , the hood seems lose as it "moves" around at highway speeds. If there is a wind the hood pops up a few inches. On a 2 lane highway a big transport truck went by in the opposite direction and I swear the hood jumped up 6 inches. Chrysler says this is normal. What is so normal about the hood threatening to open? what about in a few years when the (rubber/plastic) hood retainers start getting old?.
