general problems of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Eight problems related to structure have been reported for the 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Structure problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2011

My 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited x 4dr, has major water leaking issues. I got this Jeep used with 17,560miles on it. It runs great. However every time it rains, it leaks. My driver side seatbelt gets so wet that you can wring it out. The floor underneath the backseat gets soaked. I had to use a shampooer in the Jeep because I couldn't soak up all the water from the carpet, and it smelled like mildew. I pulled up the carpet to be sure that the plugs are in correctly, which they are, and noticed what looked like rust. The area where my seatbelt adjusts, and around the bolts for the seats is rusting. My Jeep only has 49,226 miles on it. My biggest complaint is that you have hundreds if not thousands of people complaining about the unlimited x 4dr leaking water. Why hasn't anything been done with this issue? I don't need my floor boards or seatbelt rusting out, in my opinion something needs done before something serious happens.

2 Structure problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2010

I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited. There is a recall for 2007-2010 Wranglers for the fender flare rubbing on a brake tube causing failures. When I learned about the recall I checked my Jeep and sure enough it has that exact issue. When contacting Chrysler, they said my Jeep was not part of the recall. When pushed that I had the exact same conditions the recall addressed, they said to take it to a dealer and pay for an inspection. If found to be similar, they would offer assistance (without agreeing to 100% coverage) to fix it. It is unacceptable that even though my Jeep has the exact issue addressed in the recall that they refuse to include it in the recall because of the VIN not being part of the official recall lot.

3 Structure problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2010

Soft top has leaked and been work on under warranty and is now out of warranty and still leaking from the center of the windshield. During periods of mile and heavy rain. Water drips down the center console and often causes electrical issues with radio. The dealers now will not work on it unless I pay for the service and parts. The dealer refused to replace the soft top itself as they have already replaced the mating windshield header.

4 Structure problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2009

My 2008 Jeep Wrangler shakes when going over a bump or when I accelerate at 40 mph. It is scary, it feels like driving on black ice. I had the tires checked and they are fine. There must be a problem with the steering component. Also, freedom top has leaked and stained my seats. Dealership just fixed it a month ago. Also, the Jeep was leaking oil, dealership just fixed the intake manifold gasket 3 weeks ago. It is scheduled to go back to dealership for this steering issue and it is rusting on both doors. Poor, poor quality. I am very unhappy with this vehicle. I have looked up recalls and none are listed for my issues , so I am starting to feel like I own a lemon. I have wrote to Jeep and Chrysler, waiting on their replies. Jeep owner need to be aware of this shaking you off the road, it is like you are swerving out of control, very scary. It is going to cause fatalities.

5 Structure problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2009

2008 Jeep Wrangler. There is a poorly designed bracket right behind the drivers and passengers head. The bracket has a sharp metal corner right behind the front drivers and passengers heads. If there even small accident, there would be significant trauma to the head if they were to hit the bracket. Currently this bracket is only covered by a styrofoam piece. This bracket sits right on the roll bar and can easily be fixed the trauma that individuals would get from this bracket would be significant. It is located right next to the plastic sound bar underneath some styrofoam.

6 Structure problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2008

2008 rubicon 4 dr 4x4. . Soft top leaks badly in center and at both right and left doors. The water drops onto shift console ,radio and both door panels. Last leak the floor was soaked with water and the seats have water stains. Dealer said I must contact feep hot line, waiting to hear from them.

7 Structure problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2008

Purchased a brand new 08 Jeep rubicon. These have a removable top. From day one the top leaks a ridiculous amount of water. Even while your driving water will pour from the front of the windshield on the inside of the interior covering gauges and electronically components as well as causing water to run down and cover the windshield itself on the inside making it near impossible to drive in a safe manner. It is as if trying to drive without wipers. The water will also pour out from the top onto myself while driving the vehicle as well as any other passenger. Have made multiple complaints to the dealer and they "try" to fix it but always say that there is a limit to what can be done since no recall has been issued to make it a mandatory repair. I feel that any oem defect that is common in a large percent of the vehicle from day 1 that makes the car unsafe to drive or causes issues that operating the vehicle in a safe manner impossible. I feel that the company is trying to avoid spending money to fix a issue that should have never been allowed to leave the factory if they can get away with it. I just hope it does not take the loss of someone's life because of this problem to draw enough attention to make the company correct it. Not only is this bad business but a lack of respect of safety and possible the cost of human life.

8 Structure problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2008

Exterior door handle has a big button to be pushed by the thumb for entry. The button/tension caused my thumb to develop a very painful condition diagnosed as "trigger thumb". After several dr's & many types of treatment, I will be facing surgery in hopes of correcting the problem. There is no guarantee for long term success. I've been suffering with this problem for the better part of a year & it has me recoiling at the Jeep I was in love with when I bought it last year. I've had it parked while I've driven an older car I own, but with winter coming and the need for an SUV. . . There's no way I can keep my Jeep & hope my thumb will ever be able to tolerate it. At one point when my right thumb was totally immobile, I started using my left. When it started exhibiting the same strain that my right one started with months before. . . I knew beyond a doubt it was my Jeep handle that had caused the problem. It's unfortunate I didn't realize sooner why my thumb was at first feeling strained off & on, then very swollen & throbbing, and finally locking in place with excruciating pain. It took an orthopedic hand specialist to finally diagnose the problem which comes from repetitive motion. My Jeep door handle is the only type of motion like that my thumb does. That, the timing & the fact that my other thumb started to do the same when tested. . . Convinces me the door handle is the problem. This is not limited to Jeep. This handle is probably on several makes & models. One other Chrysler product for sure is the Dodge nitro. Please file a complaint if you've suffered from this issue.
