43 problems related to electronic stability control have been reported for the 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
When going over 35 the wheel starts to wobble like the dealth wobble. Has a lot of lack in steering wheel. . When control control is on it going to 5 rpm and shifting funny. .
While in motion driving down the highway and on a city street car suddenly dies, no power steering, lights flashing, horn blaring, windshield wipers and fluid are activated and doors lock and unlock. Mechanic informs me it is tipm issue with 2007-2011 Jeeps/chryslers/dodges. I investigated online and Jeep forums etc. Support this and yet Jeep refuses to accept accountability- as someone who has nearly wrecked on multiple occasions, I implore you address this or someone is going to die, because Jeep continues to ignore this problem!!! this also happens in the middle of the night when the car is parked stationary and isn't even on- I have woken in a panic several times by what I think is my car alarm going off, to find the horn blaring, blower motor, flashers, interior lights, and the wipers going on and off. Also, while driving at night, the lights suddenly go out. Once again I urge you to investigate this dangerous problem, because this will cause a serious accident, or worse if these issues are not resolved! *these incidents have happened on multiple occasions, but the most recent was today, so that is the date used to answer "when did this happen".
Issues started with vehicle not able to start and inability to shift out of park. Battery would test good. After disconnecting battery, vehicle would start as usually. Issue began to escalate with oil light and esp light randomly lighting up on the dash. Finally, electronic throttle control and esp light would come on while driving and accelerator was unresponsive while driving on highway. I have replaced the throttle body and the entire wiring harness with no resolution. I am now replacing the computer in hopes that it will resolve the issues. I have had the Jeep in for auto service 5 times since January.
Jeep has major electrical issues. Jeeps tipm module has caused the Jeep to die while driving, experience lacking power, check engine light to go off and seems to brake itself. I replaced itnless than a year ago and now the dealership is saying it is going out again. Also having problems with pcm and part is on national backorder.
While in motion car dies and lights begin flashing, horn goes off and on, windshield wipers and fluid are activated and doors lock and unlock.
Tipm- door locks shorted out, fuel pump quits stranding the vehicle on the street, will not restart without pulling and resetting the iod fuse, causes airbag light to flash fault, rear wiper quits. This makes the vehicle unsafe or unable to be used. Vehicle was bought new and wouldn't think much about this if through research I had not found how many failures experienced by many have been related to this parts failure rate. Parked the vehicle and when went to restart it it would not resart, then the doors started locking and unlocking repeatedly locking me out of the vehicle with the keys in it. I reset the iod fuse and it started. Then going down the highway the warning lights in the dash started flashing, airbag, tcs, anti theft, tire pressure, abs, stability control all came on then vehicle shut off. It would start then run for a few seconds and die. Through research I found this to be related to the anti theft in the tipm-. Tried replacing the door lock fuse and it started arcing and smoking. Vehicle is parked now with a tipm- on order. As stated previously, I bought this Jeep new and if it was not such a widespread issue with Chrysler products I woul not think much about a part failure at ten years.
Jeep has mind of its own. No start, no headlights, wipers work on their own and spray all fluid. Jeep shuts off driving, then cant shut engine off with key.
I've called my local Jeep dealership about these open recalls for over a year numerous times they tell me they will call when parts are in. No calls et. This is my only car to drive they no that. Can't believe this!.
Jeep recall-major electrical issues: horn, alarm, windshield wipers and fluid, lights, locks and windows all these things will just start working on their own-sometimes just by pushing the unlock button. The key doesn't have to be in the ignition and if it is running and all these things start going off like the car is possessed, when removing the key everything stays and and won't turn off-even the car will continue to run-literally run until it runs out of gas. Very serious and dangerous issues-this is going to cause a serious accident or death. Many other Jeep owners have complained about these same issues via the web and nothing has been done. Dealerships are acting like it isn't a major ordeal and it needs to be addressed. This should obviously be a recall and it has been continued to be overlooked. These problems can and will occur when the vehicle is stationary, in motion, on a city street or highway-literally all of the above. It affects vision and being able to operate the vehicle safely. Although I put today's date on when this happened it has been on ongoing problem for the past 8 months to a year.
Lights flicker on and off, horn honks uncontrollably, wipers go crazy, alarm go's on and off.
Last year (2016) I had a piece of plastic (looks like tape) coming out between the steering wheel and steering column while driving on our local street. I didn't realize it was wires at first. This wire 'tape' eventually broke which means you don't have a working airbag, horn, etc. Brought it to a local garage last fall (2016) and was told the clock spring caused this and there was a recall on it. Put the Jeep in the garage for the winter and today (3/2/2017) called the dealer to make an appointment. After giving them the VIN # I was told that the recall didn't apply to my Jeep Wrangler. Btw it only had 40,920 miles on it!.
This problem started in mid auust 2016 and is still going on . . . . Wipers going off n on by themselves, horn blaring, lights blinking on n off, signm=al lights not working at times, Jeep wont move forward at times, steering gets hard to manage, check engine light goes of and on all the time. . . . . This happens at anytime or anywhere. . . . Can go on for about 2-3 minutes. . . People start staring as if I am crazy blowing the horn at them and my lights flashing through out. This should definitely be a recalled issue based on the 2007 Jeep Wrangler having the same issue. . . For all I know the 2008 Jeeps were probably intalled parts from the line from the 2007 Jeep Wranglers which had problems with the ticm. . . . . . I am trying to get estimates right now but the tcim part alone costs $425 or mre plus labor and additional for programming. . . . . . This is ridiculous!!!!! sometimes it happens when stopped at the light with vehicle on and sometimes when driving. . Hard to manuever car when driving due to difficult steering.
Head lights come on by them selves. Turn signal does not turn off.
Abnormal flashing of instruments panel. Speedometer and gauges turn off while vehicle was in motion, turn signal indicator go off and on. Vehicle temporarily loses engine power. Intermittent loss of electrical power to all dashboard components. Radio, blinkers, wipers go on or off on their own. Vehicle ignition won't start. Diagnosed by dealership tipcm failure; "computer fried" I had to pay for a new wiring harness, had to replace fuse box, brand new sway bar control module along with a brand new tipcm computer bought from dealer. Dealership won't cover repair cost nor is covered by Jeep manufacturer's warranty.
Sway bar light was flashing, brought to dealer needed new electronic sway bar due to corrosion. This is enclosed and should have no corrosion I was concerned that my Jeep may go into a death wobble if I drove over 18 miles per hour. My Jeep has only 40,000 miles. I believe there is a defect due to complaints I viewed online I not the only one so actuator, stabilizer bar, wiring chassis, screw & ret push code u1159 was showing. Power wire was corroded and weak cleaned & bent pin new wiring harness was needed. After 2260. 00 I got my Jeep back2.
While driving about 50 mph violent shaking of entire vehicle. This has happened twice. It is brake or stability control related. Have to come to a complete stop and start again for shaking to stop. Also have had to change both front calipers due to overheat damage. The overheat is a result of brakes applied by stability control or traction control when there is no need for either.
Three warning lights are two stability and one airbag. The windshield wipers act strange and won't turn off. The clockspring needs replaced.
I have a faulty clockspring. There is a recall associated with this: s33. Nhtsa campaign #: 16v290000. The faulty clockspring is effecting the airbags, stability control system and windshield wipers. For some reason my vehicle is not being covered by the recall.
When turning I noticed that the vehicle started vibrating and the abs, esp, and traction control lights and also the brake light come on. My son drives this vehicle also and I am afraid the air bag is going to deploy.
While driving on the road the Jeep starting flashing the esc light, the traction control, brakes, abs and the speedometer would skip and not give a reading. The headlights would also flicker. Just to note the altenator and battery are good. This could have caused me loss of control in slippery conditions.
Passenger side brakes come on automatically , almost caused me to loose control in right hand turn ! is there a recall on this ?.
The clock spring on these vehicles are notorious for being faulty. Chrysler recalled right hand drive Jeeps for this same issue. This disables the horn the cruise control, the airbag, and the electronic stability control. All very important issues in case of an accident.
After I shifted into 5th gear going appx. 50 mph front rt tire shimmied then lt front tire at equal 1 to 2 second intervals until the shimmy got so bad I could not control steering and had to decelerate to pull of to side of road. I had to lift myself off seat and lean into steering wheel with my all my weight to steer Jeep safely to side of road. About 1 week before my incident my daughter, 22 yrs of age, had same problem during morning rush hour. Same speed while accelerating.
Airbag light illuminated due to clockspring failure.
Airbag, abs and esc lights all come on and won't turn off. Meaning airbags may not deploy if in accident and abs may fail when braking. Esc has been randomly kicking in which cuts power to my powertrain and causes a safety hazard when in traffic and my vehicle suddenly slows and cannot maintain speed. Recalls have been done on the right hand drive models from 2008-2011, and the left hand drive model for 2007. This appears to be same issue (clockspring) as the recalls and is a safety concern that the dealer is not taking responsibility for.
From one day to another my Jeep turn on the esp bas light also with the esp off light so I thought that I had bad alignment on my tires so then I went to the dealer and he told me that they have to replace the clock spring inside my steering wheel. . . I was reading that a lot of Jeep jk owners are suffering this also Jeep already made a recall for right hand drivers but left hand drivers are suffering the same.
While in normal driving conditions my dash board lit up, esp/bas, traction control, abs, and airbag light all were lit up, and later I found out that my horn was inoperative. I have done extensive research and believe the cause to be a faulty clock spring. As of now I understand that there is no recall on the clock spring for my year of vehicle. Those systems are installed to protect my family and I. Those systems are vital to safety, especially the airbags! I do not believe that each individual that has this problem should have to pay to fix a faulty system that the manufacturer originally installed. I, along with many other Jeep owners request that there is a recall put in place for this product.
Traveling down road, noticed air bag light staying on, esp wouldn't work, horn inoperative. Called Jeep dealer and they said to come in for diagnosis as the air bag light indicated a fault in air bag system. Took to dealers and they had to replace clock-spring wiring harness to cure problem. Not in warrenty period and when Chrysler was contacted they would not accept cost as it was not under recall. I therefore had to pay for repair. The dealer said to keep invoice as it may later be a safety recall. It should be as I was told the problem could cause the air bag system to malfunction. Being in the Jeep community I know of thousands of Jeep Wranglers having the same problem. Copy of invoice attached.
Horn stuck on until I pull wire off of horn. Air bag light is on esp light is on and traction control light is on. Research on Jeep forums appears to be the clock spring. Many other 2008 models seem to be having the same issue. Please provide some resolution to this issue.
Upon turning on my Jeep the airbag light did not go out after the start-up light check. When restarting the vehicle it went out. While driving it came back on and chimed, it has continued to come on intermittently while driving and while parked. The esp also began intermittently illuminating while driving on a smooth straight highway. This intermittent issue has persisted for over a year. In doing research both issues can potentially be related back to the airbag clockspring. A recall exists for rhd Jeep Wranglers of my same year that use the same part. When contacting a Jeep dealer about this safety issue they said they would not do anything to resolve it unless I paid for all parts and labor. In checking online forums this is apparently not as rare as the initial recall states. There are even online tutorials on how to change it yourself since the manufacturer doesn't recognize this as a problem on lhd Jeeps. . Read more...
On approximately 01/21/13 at about 8:00am, while traveling on the 405 freeway at about 50mph, my Jeep got the "death wobbles". It was found the entire front housing snapped off. It was fixed and returned to me. On 02/11/13 at about 10:30am, I was merging on to the I-5 n/b from sand canyon in irvine. When I reached 45mph, I got the "death wobbles" again. This time, the dealer said it was because I had cheap tires on the vehicle. I have nitto tires which are about $250 each. I have looked into the death wobbles and it appears Jeep has a real problem. The vehicle shakes so violently you feel like you are losing control. Someone is going to get killed and Jeep knows it. I have had my vehicle in twice now for the same thing. Once more and I am going lemon law. If they give it back and my family is injured as a result of a known flaw. Stand by! this is crap. You cannot knowingly sell a defective vehicle can you? seems like it would be criminal to defraud or fail to disclose this death wobble issue to buyers. I did not know anything about this until it happened to me.
While driving on a curvy road, my air bag light came on. It now has been coming on intermittently since. Upon investigation of other vehicle owners, the electrical connection to the steering wheel looks to be the culprit (the clock spring per Jeep).
On the 2008 Jeep Wrangler (left hand drive) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags (clock spring). This has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2008 Jeep Wrangler (left hand drive) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty within the vehicle's steering wheel. This faulty clockspring is the culprit for airbag failure in the 2008 Jeep Wrangler (left hand drive) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around, horn failure, elec. Stability control, cruise control (if equipped), failure in turn signals, and difficulty with steering . Chrysler has refused to address this safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause most importunely failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying. Chrysler has made a recall for the 2007 Jeep Wrangler and certain 2008 right hand drive Jeep Wranglers. Chrysler states that the 2008+ left hand drive Jeep Wranglers are unaffected by their faulty clock springs, which is not the case for my motor vehicle and several others like myself.
The steering wheel momentarily wouldn't turn until I forced it and broke what I'm assuming is the clockspring assembly. Very dangerous if my mom or someone else who wouldn't have been able to force the break while driving the Jeep. The airbag, abs, esp, and traction control lights all came on in the dash. There is a white ribbon wire now hanging out between the steering wheel and column.
The esp, bas, abs, and airbag lights are all on. When you start driving there is a clunking noise and it hesitates to go. Sometimes when you are driving it starts to clunk and it is hard to steer. At times it is like you are dragging the rear end. And at times it even feels like you are dragging the rear end sideways.
