43 problems related to electronic stability control have been reported for the 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Air bag light comes on intermittently, esp bas light comes on intermittently. Depends on wheel orientation. I am suspecting clockspring is at fault.
Going up to 50 mph,,,,get severe shaking,,,not safe at all,,,I have spent over $1000 on repairs, re alignemnets, rotations and had the stearing damper replaced 2x by Jeep,,,,still does the wobble,,,,I am furious about this. This is very dangerous. The Jeep dealership has told me they have done all they can do.
My 2008 Jeep shakes violently when it hit a rough patch of road. This has happened 10 times to me the first time was 4/06/2011 the most recent time was 3/26/2012. I have replaced the damper bar (3) times, rotors and brake pads. I have taken my Jeep to glendale and south county Jeep in st. Louis, mo and they tell me I need to replace the damper bar and get new tires. [xxx] from customer care at Chrysler has been very nice but not very helpful. I am not convinced this is the problem since reading that many other Jeep owners have experienced the same problem. I hope the us government steps up and helps. Please help before someone get killed. I look forward to someone contacting me since Jeep feels they do not have a problem. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
My Jeep is experiencing what Jeep owners refer to as the death wobble. Violent, intense shaking of the front end after hitting the smallest of bumps. Must slow down immediately to gain control of vehicle.
My Jeep has the "Jeep death wobble", which is widely discussed on the internet. By googling that term, you can see that it's a very violent shaking of the front end of the vehicle, causing the car to ultimately shake out of control if the vehicle cannot be slowed down very quickly. Unfortunately, it's cause is unclear, though there is a list of a dozen or so "fixes" that sometimes fix the problem for 20,000 miles or so at a time. I had the death wobble at about 15k miles, 35k miles and now again at 65k miles. The dealer acknowledged the problem and was scared when he drove my car to see the problem for himself. It's unsafe for me and my 2-year old daughter in the back. My car needs this repaired again right now, and I assume will need it every 20k miles or so. On the last occasion this happened (yesterday), I hit a small gap in the pavement (for example, the normal seam where two pieces of concrete come together) at about 45mph. The front end started vibrating and then the vibration increases (almost like the car is resonating), until you can't hold the steering wheel and the car is about to vibrate off the road uncontrollably. This is how the issue always occurs and it occurs between 45-70mph. It's begins with a small bump or imperfection on the pavement. It's easily reproduced.
Rear brakes on 2008 Wrangler unlimited wore completely out in 24,400 miles. The front brake pads were at 80% according to the Jeep dealer service tech. There was no underlying cause such as sticking calipers or slides according to the technician. The discs were scored and needed to be resurfaced. Although the end result was within tolerance, the surface of both rotors remained scored in several spots. After complaining to the manager they decided to replace both rear discs with new mopar discs. My fear is not identifying an underlying cause for the premature failure. With advanced design and computer driven sensors, there may be a safety issue yet to be identified. I've never had the need to replace rear brakes on a vehicle so soon and considering the condition of the front brake equipment, my suspicion is a system fault that may need to be identified. Please call me with any questions.
Steering wheel is lost goes all over the road shifts bad rpm goes up to 5 hot oil lights comes on.
Jeep is a stock 2dr 4x4 Jeep Wrangler x with 28500 miles on it when it first happened. This vehicle has been on a couple of dirt roads but no off road usage. While driving around a curve on loop 470 in denver at 65mph, my Jeep began to aggressively "wobble" jackhammer and throw Jeep from tire to tire side to side literally jumping inches off the pavement. It was jumping from front right tire to rear left tire to front left. Back and forth 1 tire was on the ground while the other three tires your could feel literally jumping off the road and had no contact with pavement. Very scary. All vehicle control lost at this time. Manual stick was actually being thrown so violently left and right I could not grab it to throw in neutral and stop the vehicle. Braking system had very little effect since all wheels but one were off the pavement. I was able to slow down to 45mph and the death wobble mysteriously stopped and I was able to regain control enough to pull of the freeway and inspect the vehicle. I discovered a little snow around the tirewell but certainly nothing that should cause this violent of a reaction. Very dangerous been driving for 23 years and never seen anything like it.
