121 problems related to horn assembly have been reported for the 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

36 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2016

While driving vehicle several issues presented without warning: suddenly the wipers started going, windshield fluid spraying, horn blaring and lights flashing. Engine then cut out while underway on a city street rendering power steering, brakes and stability control inoperable. Dealer diagnosed this as a bad totally integrated power module (tipm).

37 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2016

While driving the wipers horn and windshield washer fluid randomly comes on and the Jeep will just stall wherever you are and won't start back up.

38 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2016

This problem started in mid auust 2016 and is still going on . . . . Wipers going off n on by themselves, horn blaring, lights blinking on n off, signm=al lights not working at times, Jeep wont move forward at times, steering gets hard to manage, check engine light goes of and on all the time. . . . . This happens at anytime or anywhere. . . . Can go on for about 2-3 minutes. . . People start staring as if I am crazy blowing the horn at them and my lights flashing through out. This should definitely be a recalled issue based on the 2007 Jeep Wrangler having the same issue. . . For all I know the 2008 Jeeps were probably intalled parts from the line from the 2007 Jeep Wranglers which had problems with the ticm. . . . . . I am trying to get estimates right now but the tcim part alone costs $425 or mre plus labor and additional for programming. . . . . . This is ridiculous!!!!! sometimes it happens when stopped at the light with vehicle on and sometimes when driving. . Hard to manuever car when driving due to difficult steering.

39 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2016

My 2008 Jeep Wrangler. 3. 8l, has had a tipm issue for years,I ve had it to the dealer and they could not find the issue, but through research I have seen that many people have had the same issues, horn blowing and wont stop, washer and wipers come on and wont stop until battery is disconnected, door lock work when they want to,a/c blower works when it wants to. . All of which return to normal after disconnecting the battery and then re-connecting, at least temporarily. . . But every time I drive it I worry about it going crazy. . . Today it shut off completely on me going 70mph on a busy freeway, almost caused an accident, again after disconnecting the battery(on the side of a very busy freeway)it returned to normal and I drove it straight to the dealer again. . Chrysler knows this is an issue, I will pay to have it replaced myself ($1200)and hope that's the whole issue, but this issue is much larger if you watch you tube videos and read the Jeep forums. . . This will cause accidents or worse. . . . . Chrysler should recall these as they have others. . . . .

40 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2016

Randomly the horn starts going off, wiper fluid shooting out and the wipers going like crazy, air conditioner not working. Nothing you can do will make it stop, it just, after several minutes does stop. Variation of this has happened 6 times over the last two months. The dealer cannot figure out what is wrong and says will not be able to unless we can bring it in while the car is looking possessed. They acknowledge that it may be the tipm but cannot confirm and given the expense of replacing it don't recommend that we do so without knowing for sure this is the problem. Of course this makes it a problem to be driving this car, as you never know when the wipers and horn will start going crazy. This has happened both when the vehicle is stationary and while driving.

41 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2016

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the horn, wipers and washer fluid operated independently. The contact turned the vehicle off and removed the key from the ignition, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the controller for the windshield wiper in the front needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. However, the failure recurred. The vehicle was then towed to another independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear windshield wiper was disconnected and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer who was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 109,000. The VIN was unavailable.

42 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2016

Jeep will start honking horn, wipers on , washer fluid shooting out, door locks won't work. Then it all clears up, there are time when the battery has to be disconnected . But one day while driving to work. All bells and lights went on, wipers on high, horn was stuck on, and then engine just dies! luckily I had enough speed to get it to the shoulder. Jumped out to pull the horn wire, I was in a residential area at 5 a. M. When all of a sudden engine started back up, with the keys in my pocket! everything finally stop running and I went on to my job reluctantly. Now sporadically the wipers go on, doors won't unlock, engine won't start, horn blares, washer fluid goes on all by there self. This is my only car to drive, I'm going to an independent dealer to get it hooked up to scan the computer, and hopefully find the problem.

43 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2016

Horn/wipers/lights all come on at once. This has happened both with the car running and with it unoccupied and not running.

44 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/29/2016

I am having continually increasing episodes where my 2008 Jeep Wrangler 4 dr 4x4 experiences what I can only describe as an electrical "spasm. " all of the windshield wipers, washer fluid manifolds, door locks, & horn all operate continuously, and will not stop unless the battery is disconnected. How can I be sure that this "unknown electrical problem" isn't going to get worse, and by worse, I mean affect something crucial to the safe operation of my vehicle when I'm driving it at freeway speeds? if this vehicle has some electrical problem while I'm driving it at freeway speeds, then a lot of people could be severely injured due to the size of this vehicle becoming uncontrollable. This has happened while the car is stopped/idling, while it is driving, and now, after it had been parked for several days. I have taken it directly to a Jeep dealer immediately after both episodes. The first time, I had to wait several hours before the vehicle could be driven. The 2nd time it occurred I drove it directly to a Jeep dealer, and they could not identify the problem after several days. The manufacturer should at the very least, be able to identify the problem, and redesign whichever electrical component, or system, that's causing the problem. I would even be willing to purchase the part at the manufacturer's cost, if it got rid of the problem.

45 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2016

The clock spring failed and now the airbag, horn, and cruise control does not work. It started with a clicking noise in the steering column when turning, then after a popping noise everything mentioned stopped working. After research there are a lot of people with the same exact issue but no recall has been issued.

46 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2016

To date this is the 3rd time in a year I have parked my Jeep got out key in hand and for no apparent reason my horn and wipers have gone crazy had to pull battery terminals to get it to stop and now will not start back.

47 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2015

While driving or when no one is in the vehicle. The wipers start going, windshield washers start and stop, horn starts blowing, lights start flashing off and on, all dash instruments go off and on and the horn blows intermittently. The door locks engage when the car is sitting with the motor off and no one in the car.

48 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2015

The security system activated without cause. I removed the key, tried locking the door and unlocking, inserting the key in the door to turn it off. Nothing worked. I to had to pull the fuse for the lights and horn so my neighbors could get some sleep. I took another vehicle to work. It has not acted up since. The week before the alarm system activating the lights would come on without cause as well. We were sitting in the house and the lights would go and off for no reason. We took the batteries out of the key thinking it was the batteries going bad. This did not fix the intermittent lights issue. I had the tipm replaced July 2015 because the headlights stayed on all the time then would flash from time to time. The wipers would go on and off on their own. The horn blared when it felt like it. All these symptoms happened while driving. The Jeep dealership ran a diagnostic and said the unit was bad. Surely an $800 part without labor is suppose to last more than 5 months!!!!.

49 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2015

Last week while driving, suddenly the wipers, washers and horn came on and would not turn off. Today it was raining & the wiper would turn on while driving on the highway while its raining. So dangerous it was really scary. You absolutely have no control over any part of the electronic electrical system & you putting yourself and other to danger & can cause some serious accident.

50 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2015

I have no safety horn, no airbags, no cruise control and tire presure monitore gives faulty reading. All because of and due to a bad clock spring under the steering wheel.

51 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2015

Vehicle when parked and / or while driving will start blaring the horn, spraying wiper fluid, wipers engage, lights go on and off / then off and the only way to make it stop is to battery or give the tipm an easy tap on the top. I have taken it to dealer and they want to start replacing electrical components starting with the cheap one at 350. 00. This started happening at around 40k miles and at the time there were not any modifications on the Jeep. . Read more...

52 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2015

In 2009 my tipm failed and I experienced the 'possessed Jeep' condition where everything turned on (lights, turn signals, horn, radio blasting with no display). I took it to the dealer and they replaced free of charge (under 5 year warranty). In 2012 my rear brake calipers seized on both the passenger and driver side, they were glowing cherry-red after a 1 hour commute into work, perfect to start a fire if I had pulled into a gas station with some gas spilled on the ground or something. I got after-market calipers because the guy at auto zone said that he had several customers with the same issue that replaced it with factory calipers and they failed within 40000 miles, they went with after-market calipers and never had a problem, I have not had a problem since myself. Well now all of a sudden my horn, front passenger parking lamp/turn signal stopped working. There are no blown fuses or unhooked wires, everything is stock (I bought the vehicle brand new). At this same time, my passenger seat keeps coming unlatched and flying forward and back (as if someone were trying to enter the back seat). I can push the seat back into position, but it will fly forward all by itself at random. This started immediately with the horn and passenger parking lamp issue. This is dangerous and presents a choking hazard, especially if someone is sitting in the seat with the seat belt fastened. Since the horn has stopped working, I am concerned that my air-bag may not deploy (clock-spring issue) or if it is that tipm again. I don't think I should need to pay for yet another tipm this should be covered for the life of the vehicle since it is a safety hazard.

53 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2015

So I own an '08 Jeep Wrangler x. My problem happens to be with the factory timp on my vehicle. On three separate occasions the car decided it was time to blare the horn non stop as well as flash lights and utilize its windshield whippers and fluid. Today, 11/20/215, was the longest and most frustrating episode. Usually the horn would start but then subside after 20-30 seconds. This was not the case and at 5am the horn, lights, and whippers started going off and didn't stop until I had to pull the fuses for the horn. After that everything stopped and I only had to remove the two horn fuses. I also want to add that the heater did not work until after this entire episode as I was in fact driving while this all occurred. In addition to this issue I have experienced gas spit back on multiple occasions while filling up. I have researched both issues and it seems as these are both related to a defective timp. I have also read there currently isn't a recall and they are on back order nation wide. I have not attempted to repair issue yet.

54 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2015

Horn goes on & stays on, wipers go continuously, wiper fluid flows constantly, back up lights go on, heater fan goes off & on, the engine continues to run with the key out of the ignition and the last time the abs came on while I was delivering mail and my brakes locked up. Once it happened while parked ( the engine was running without keys), all other times I was driving on rural roads and in developments, both driving home & delivering mail. I have video on my phone of the occurrence two separate times.

55 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2015

Airbag warning light coming on intermittently when turning the steering wheel to the right. Horn working intermittently and cruise control unexpectedly turning off. All issues seem to be happening while moving and turning.

56 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2015

Without warning . . . Horn starts blowing, windshield washer comes on, lights flash, door locks won't work, key switch off doesn't stop the problem, so far have able to pull off the road and open the hood to disconnect the battery. Reconnecting the battery sometimes works but the heater/ac stops working. . . This situation is a real road hazard!!! after awhile things work ok until it repeats. Very dangerous car to be on the road. Jeep service people respond by saying that that they find nothing wrong! well sure, the event is over when we are able to bring the vehicle in to be "fixed"! basis for a class action suit for sure! vehicle has been in motion on the highway and stationary when this has happened.

57 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2015

Vehicle horn stopped working. No accident or event occurred. Possible malfunction. Tried to use the horn while in motion on the road, no horn sound when pressing into the steering wheel. Vehicle horn does sound when locking the vehicle and when setting off the "panic" alarm. This leads me to believe there is an issue with the clock spring. Took vehicle to maintenance shop, staff said the horn is in good working order, but the clock spring is likely "bad".

58 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2015

Airbag light constantly on and digging. Horn intermittently does not work. Happens right when you turn the ignition on and start the vehicle and does not go away until ignition is turned off.

59 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2015

This morning I opened the unlocked front passenger door and the craziness began - doors locked on their own, horn started blaring, headlights tailights and hazards started flashing, front and back windshield wipers started going, windshield washer fluid started shooting out. I attempted to use the remote to unlock the doors - nothing happened. Used the key to manually unlock the door - against the system trying to relock. Then cranked the engine to try and get everything to stop. It did not stop. I turned off the Jeep then popped the hood and disconnected the negative terminal. All the craziness stopped. I waited @5 minutes and then reconnected the battery. All the craziness started again. So I pulled the negative and the positive from the terminal hoping to reset the system. I have not reconnected the system to try again. I am worried that even if the craziness doesn't start once I reconnect the battery, if I am driving down the road and it begins it may cause me to wreck. I will send a follow-up email. Thanks.

60 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

Windsheild wipers turn on automatically won't stop simultaneously horn honks, lights flash - happens when stationary and when driving. Faulty tipm.

61 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2015

Jeep is possessed. Horn, wipers, wiper washer, a/c, radiator fan, door locks, and lights turn on at random intervals even when vehicle is shut off and no key in ignition. Same behavior occurs while drving. In one case the putting the vehicle in reverse cause the problem.

62 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

On or around the 15 April 2015 while pulling into a parking lot the horn and the wiper as well as the washer began to randomly go off and even while the vehicle was completely unattended. I had to physically remove the horn connection to keep the horn from sounding at inopportune times and possibly distracting the drivers around me and causing an accident. The wiper to this day still start to randomly move and the washer squirts at any random time. The horn remains unhooked at this time. The tipm module is suspect in this vehicle for repair.

63 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2015

Horn does not work when pushed, but horn sounds off when locking or alarm, as it should. Asked dealership to fix it soon after we bought and they would not. Didn't think dealership could sell defective car. Took Jeep to get checked and mechanic could not find anything wrong. Mechanic recommended replacing part for a total of approximately $600. 00.

64 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2015

On 4 occasions, my horn and windshield wiper have spontaneously activated. On the most recent occurence, we were driving at night and the headlights turned off for several seconds. This happened at highway speed but luckily my wife was able to cycle the headlight switch and power returned to the headlights.

65 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2015

My Jeep will randomly squirt wiper fluid, lock and unlock doors, honk horn, turn off and on headlights, etc. All things that are controlled by the electronic system. I never know when it will happen and it differs each time, but I am worried that it is beginning to happen more frequently and will happen when I am on a highway - it has the potential to be dangerous. Due to all of the other complaints I have seen about it from Jeep owners of my year and the recall on previous Chrysler's due to the tipm, a recall needs to be issued for these.

66 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

Jeep basically possessed. Horn goes off, wipers turn on, wiper fluid sprays, door lock and unlock rapidly. (all by themselves). Remains running after turned off and key removed. Periodically shuts off while driving. Problem is tipm(totaly integrated power module). 2007's were recalled for these same issues but they will not acknowledge for the 2008's. I've spoke with several people who had 07's that had the exact same symptoms. Affected part number - 04692236af.

67 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2014

After leaving the gym on my lunch break I took (thank god) the not so heavy traffic road to get back to work. My Jeep cut off on me while driving. I had to pull over. Again my wipers start going and the lights come on and the horn won't stop blaring so I had to open the hood and tap on the fuse box lid. After the 5th attempt the car decided to come on. I do not feel safe driving my vehicle if I am right next to the emergency lane. This has to stop and should be a recall. I have a child and this is very not safe. The same incident happened to me last week coming down a busy street. Again blessed I was near the driveway of a business I did not get into an accident and pulled over waiting for my Jeep to decide when it wanted to start again. Why is this not a recall? I took my Jeep several months back to the dealer and was without transportation for 2 weeks before they got to looking at it and stated they could not find the problem and sent it back home to me. Please investigate this issue as I am not the only person this has been happening to.

68 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

2008 Jeep Wrangler sahara trail rated horn, locks, wiper fluid will come on while driving down the road for no apparent reason, causing other drivers to stop or look around due to the horn going off and the driver of the Jeep cannot see due to the water being sprayed all over the windshield unexpectedly. The only way to stop this is to pull over and pull the fuses or battery terminals once you get home. This is a serious safety issue.

69 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2014

Jeep Wrangler still acts up with electronics. After picking up some grocery as I open my passenger door my horn, both wipers, washer fluid spraying out, and lights started going haywire. Everything turned on all at once. I jumped in and tried starting it up maybe rest what ever short my be experiancing, I was able to start it but continue to go haywire as I turned off the ignition, it continue to run. I jumped out to pop the hood and pulled a fuse. The engine stopped and car stopped going haywire. I waited about 10 mins before replacing the fuse. Jeep Wrangler still honks horn (beep) and wipers shift a little in the morning when I open the driver door. Should I be concern that this melfunction will cause a fire or possiable harm?.

70 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2014

My Jeep's horn began honking, wipers came on, door locks began locking and unlocking. Nothing stopped until I got home and my husband disconnected the battery. He connected it several hours later and it was fine. I took it to the dealership where they told me nothing could be done as the problem had stopped. Several months later, the same thing occurred along with the a/c shutting off. We went through the same steps; disconnect battery, reconnect and took to dealership. Again I was told that they really couldn't diagnose because nothing was happening at that point. Last night my Jeep began shaking violently and scared me as I could not regain control. I had to slow and pull over so it could stop. My husband came to get me and was following me when in addition to the past things happening (I call it possessed), the warning lights came on; brake, engine, abs, battery, etc. It then stalled as I was turning. Luckily the woman coming the opposite direction slowed and went around otherwise I would have been hit. My husband towed the Jeep to the dealership and left it there, and told them to fix it as it is a real road hazard. In reading about Jeep complaints, I'm assuming it is a "tipm" problem and something called a "death wobble". I am absolutely shocked that this hasn't been recalled.
