My Jeep Wrangler warning light cycled on under normal driving conditions. I drove it to my mechanic he said the code read was for the transmission. We checked the transmission fluid and it was filled with fluid. I drove it home into my driveway and I saw smoke and looked under the vehicle. I didn't find anything. When I stood up and walked around the vehicle I noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment. I lifted the hood and flames where present. I closed the hood and ran for fire extinguishers to put out the fire. The Jeep has always been maintained and only has 92k miles on it. The whole incident was captured on my ring camera.
150,000mi on my Jeep and my heat has gone completely out. I live in a cold climate area in the north east. . The heat stopped working when the car was moving down the highway causing my windows to fog up dramatically reducing visibility. This fogging has continued and I can no longer drive the vehicle without the windows being partially cracked down.
The engine was on idle. The car was stationary. I pressed the gas pedal. The car did not move. I saw smoke coming out the air con / fan on the dashboard. I got off the car and look underneath it. I saw red liquid pouring onto the ground and flames. The fire subsequently extended to the entire engine. The fire brigade came and manage to put out the fire. There was no warning of overheating or any lights that would have indicated that something was wrong. The car was regularly maintained (every 10,000 km) at the local Jeep service center. The car only had 77000 miles I have never been off-road. I have never made any upgrade or modification to the car.
When I purchased the vehicle I had noticed it made a noice , I had a mechanic take a look at it and mentioned the sub frame was welded and that the car was very rusted and falling apart. I went back with in the 15 days and under 500 miles and brought it to jason's attention (the person ho sold me the vehicle, jason argued that all Jeeps sub frames are like that from factory, even tried comparing it to another Jeep he had. I had took the Jeep to a few shops for evaluation and all of them came back with the same bad results that the car was a safety hazard. The vehicle was advertised at dealer "that car place" as a good reliable and safe car. My big cocern is that I know very little about cars and I don't feel comfortable in a car that has safety hazards for others and my own safety. I had requested a different vehicle and the reply I gt from jason was that he couldn't do that because he had brought down the price an had given me a discount. I don't think its fair for him to use that excuse and deny my request just because I didn't ask him to it was by his choice.
I was delivering mail, and while stopped at a box I noticed smoke coming from the passenger side of the hood. I pulled into the nearest driveway, and got out of the vehicle just before the engine compartment went up in flames.
At 1030 am 08 September 2016, my Jeep Wrangler caught fire and was determined a total loss. I dropped my Jeep off for a noise in the transmission on 06 September 2016, I then received a phone on the 8th that my Jeep had caught fire because the transmission had overheated. The dealership was in possession of my vehicle through this process and stated that I would need to file a claim through my insurance company.
Approximately 4 years ago, the heater core in my Jeep failed suddenly, pouring antifreeze out onto my passenger floorboard repeatedly. At the time I was not aware that it was my heater core. We asked a mechanic to let us know what was wrong and that's when we found out. I am so glad that we noticed it in time because we have 3 dogs that frequently are in my vehicle and one, some, or all of them could have died. This was not a cheap fix as they had to take apart the dash to gain access. I love my Jeep, but come on you guys. . . . No customer should have to fork over so much money for manufacturer defects.
While working my mail route, only about 20 miles in, my right hand drive Wrangler started to smoke. I assumed because the vehicle never turned off when it began to smoke it was something small causing the issue. I was driving 15 mph when this occurred. I pulled over, shut off my vehicle and opened the hood. There was a fire on the passanger side of my vehicle under and behind my battery, rolling under the vehicle moving very quickly. I immediately closed the hood, got my belonging out of my vehicle and watched as it blew up, and I called 911. My vehicle is totaled. I am now learning that this is becoming a common occurance with Jeep! why are there no public warnings!! where are the recalls!!!!!!!! I and others could have been hurt or killed!!!!.
The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. Approximately one year ago, while driving approximately 35 mph, smoke appeared everywhere. The contact quickly grabbed her baby and jumped out of the vehicle, which was momentarily engulfed in flames and burned to the ground. There was no warning indicator. The police and fire department were at the scene and the fire department extinguished the fire. Police and fire reports were filed. There were no injuries. The insurance company towed the remnants of the vehicle away. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was not provided. The failure mileage was 130,000.

Started my car with the remote starter. Everything from wipers to alarm to window washer to lights went on a fritz. Smoke came out of the hood. I made sure car was turned off and opened the hood to discover a fire. I had a small fire extinguisher and was barely enough to extinguish the fire. Once extinguished I called the dealer who had just serviced the car and am waiting for an idea why it happened. It melted the electronic components next to the air dam, wires around the battery etc.
We called autopark Chrysler, the dealer we bought it from and they said that since we did our last oil change on our own that the warranty was void and that we would be charged to dx the problem and the engine would be $7k. We had the engine replace at another shop. Cost $5k. At time of repair we found out that the problem stem from a mfg defect. The oil pressure valve located inside the engine was made of plastic and was completely melted. I contacted Chrysler by email and was told that since we did not have the powertrain inspection done the warranty was void. I explained we were not wanting to file a warranty claim. We were requesting reimbursement because of a mfg defect. They refused to cover cost of repairs. I than got connected with a case manager at Chrysler. She said I had to get the powertrain inspected by 11-18-14. It failed because the engine was replaced I than spoke to mr susalla with Chrysler. He said that I should have contacted Chrysler in Feb 2014 not the dealer regarding the warranty. The dealer should have offered to do a free powertrain warranty inspection than or refer me to contact Chrysler. Mr susalla also said that the powertrain inspection I was required to have done Nov was to negate their responsibility on the replaced engine. We feel that Chrysler is responsible for the cost of repairs. There should not be any plastic parts inside the engine. Chrysler is very aware of this defect. The dealer should have told us they needed to perform a free inspection of the motor when it failed in Feb 2014 to determine if the repairs would be covered rather than turn us away stating the warranty was void, or at least refer us to call Chrysler. Please understand, my concern is not regarding maintaining the power train warranty. My concern is that the problem stem from a mfg defect. There should not be any plastic parts inside the engine.
Driving down the road and my Jeep shut down. I was in the middle of traffic trying to miss cars but I had no power steering. I pulled to the side of the road and took it to the shop. They had to replace my tipm module. I would like to have someone contact Chrysler to have them put in a recall so this does not happen to anyone else.

2009 Jeep Wrangler. Consumer writes on behalf of his wife who was involved in a motor vehicle accident when another vehicle made a left turn in front of her. Right after the impact, the Jeep remained in drive and continued to move forward. The engine compartment also ignited, resulting in a fire after the vehicle was brought to a halt, and a fire retardant was applied to extinguish the flame, as the Jeep was being set up for towing, the fire re-ignited and caused additional damage.

My 2009 Jeep Wrangler 4 door caught fire when my wife was driving my children to school. It had 6,000 miles on it. The Jeep was deemed a total loss by safety insurance. The vehicle had not been touched since leaving the dealership. We contacted the dealer who has been very helpful but forwarded us to the manufacturer . We have been getting the company policies and procedures run around. Customer service to the special investigation unit { no phone number to contact them direct}to the legal department where it is right now. Beware of this problem and the not so friendly customer service that follows. Its been our experience the company is more interested in a law suit than a potential safety problem.
2009 Jeep Wrangler hesitates when accelerating, sometimes loses power, and/or bucks randomly. When starting from a stop, the vehicle will take some time to start accelerating, with the delay being in the order of 2 seconds or more. When merging, the vehicle sometimes loses power if you step on the accelerator hard. When driving the vehicle and accelerating gently, it sometimes hesitates or 'bucks' and then gains power.
