Failure Date: 12/03/2019

My 2009 Jeep Wrangler unlimited x was struck at approximately 35mph almost head on. On a city street moving straight. No air bags deployed. This Jeep has had at least three clock springs replaced and is on a clock spring warranty for life. The Jeep had no signs clock spring failure prior to the accident I. E. Airbag light nor check engine light. Although wearing seatbelts my face struck the steering wheel and I was injured.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2019

Horn doesn't work and cruise control doesn't work airbag light on n.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2019

I was traveling around 50-55 mph on a straight road, when the Jeep started shaking violently and I almost lost control. I had to pull over and come to a stop. I was very shaken up. I did have it looked over to see if anything was wrong. Couldn't find anything (tires, tie-in rods, ball joints, and alignment). This was the first time it happened, it happened again. I found out they call this the Jeep death wobble. I checked to see if there was a recall, but didn't see one. I can't believe there isn't a recall on this with all the complaints I've read. Don't wait till someone gets killed.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2018

We have been experiencing severe wobbling of our vehicle. This has occurred three times while driving approx. 65 mph, on a city free way. The wobbling has been initiated where slabs of road meet, especially if it is not even one. On all wobbling occasions were fortunate enough to find ourselves on an outside line. We were able to control the wobbling by holding the steering wheel and slowly pulling over on to the shoulder. I have had all the brakes replaced, front and rear shocks and coils replaced and tire lubed. We are still driving the vehicle very carefully by avoiding rough areas on the road.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2017

Dash cluster flickers, Jeep shuts off while driving, sometimes starts threw out stall on its own. Won't start all the time. Have an issue we're my battery cables are massively melted causing smoke.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2017

Air bag light turns on and off randomly.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2017

When driving between 45 and 55 mph the Jeep will begin to violently shake so bad it is hard to control the steering wheel, and the only remedy is to slow down or come to a complete stop. The violent shaking is intermittent, I am able to drive the same route with no problem, and other times the vehicle will go into a violent shake.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2017

For the past 2 years, whenever it rains, water flows in from the top left corner of both front doors. Also, if my vehicle is parked and it rains, next time I drive it water absolutely pours in all over me and the passenger seat, or my passenger.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2017

I was delivering mail, and while stopped at a box I noticed smoke coming from the passenger side of the hood. I pulled into the nearest driveway, and got out of the vehicle just before the engine compartment went up in flames.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2016

Driver's side (left) exterior side mirror fell off while driving on a city street. Mirror fell into road way posing a hazard for other drivers. Upon recovering mirror I found that the structural base that attached the mirror to the body was severely corroded away and it broke where an attaching bolt affixed the mirror to the mount not at the point the mount attached to the vehicle. My selling dealer covered this under our Chrysler extended warranty with a $100 deductible. But this is a common defect and poses a safety hazard both to the owner and others around the vehicle or other drivers.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2016

Clockspring was replaced July 18, 2016 due to recall. Now the vehicle wipers come on anytime and vehicle then stalls. Takes 5 minutes or more to start vehicle again. This occurred while driving in traffic. Dealer claim faulty wiper motor and abs module. Replaced both August 1st, it happened again when driving home that same day, problem still not resolved. Dealer has vehicle again. My vehicle ran great before dealer changed clockspring.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2015

Approximately 4 years ago, the heater core in my Jeep failed suddenly, pouring antifreeze out onto my passenger floorboard repeatedly. At the time I was not aware that it was my heater core. We asked a mechanic to let us know what was wrong and that's when we found out. I am so glad that we noticed it in time because we have 3 dogs that frequently are in my vehicle and one, some, or all of them could have died. This was not a cheap fix as they had to take apart the dash to gain access. I love my Jeep, but come on you guys. . . . No customer should have to fork over so much money for manufacturer defects.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2015

Death wobble shakes terribly while driving and most often after hitting a slight bump.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2015

While working my mail route, only about 20 miles in, my right hand drive Wrangler started to smoke. I assumed because the vehicle never turned off when it began to smoke it was something small causing the issue. I was driving 15 mph when this occurred. I pulled over, shut off my vehicle and opened the hood. There was a fire on the passanger side of my vehicle under and behind my battery, rolling under the vehicle moving very quickly. I immediately closed the hood, got my belonging out of my vehicle and watched as it blew up, and I called 911. My vehicle is totaled. I am now learning that this is becoming a common occurance with Jeep! why are there no public warnings!! where are the recalls!!!!!!!! I and others could have been hurt or killed!!!!.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2015

While stopped at a light, my Jeep's airbag light came on and the warning ding sounded. The light would regularly switch off and on again, every time accompanied by the warning ding when the light turned back on. The light is pretty much always on now, and the warning ding only sounds when I start the vehicle. I had the airbag warning checked out at the local Jeep dealership and they have confirmed that the clock spring has failed. The clock spring appears to be a faulty design; Chrysler issued a voluntary recall after a previous NHTSA investigation (pe11019) but the same part/design is used from 2007 through 2012 in Jeep Wranglers.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2015

Every few minutes the airbag light comes on with a chime then goes away after a mile or so comes back on.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

Bought a used 2009 Jeep, when taking off it jumps out of 1st gear.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2014

I own a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. Over the past year and a half, I have experienced increasing issues with my Wrangler in that it begins to shake uncontrollably when I am driving above 50 mph and hit even small bumps in the road. This past summer I had it worked on twice in order to address the issue. My car has been in storage since September and I drove it for the first time this past weekend. Today (12/23/14), I was driving on the freeway and in less than 30 miles, the car began shaking 3 different times. Each time this happens, I have to bring the car to a complete stop (obviously, this is difficult, and sometimes impossible, on the freeway). The situation becomes very dangerous to myself and the drivers around me. I have made no modifications to my Wrangler.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2014

While traveling on highway valve stem fell into rim this ,I believe was caused do the fact the steel rim has a lip that holds water if the valve stem is in the six o clock position it sits in water /the only way the water can be removed is by the rim turning ,the rim is steel ,the stem is aluminum the lock nut is aluminum all of these different metals mixed with water creates a corrosion (electrolasis) problem inside the rim the valve stem connects to the tpms sensor on other model Jeeps the valve stem is rubber it seems to eliminate the corrosion problem I called Jeep case#25386092 offered no results.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2014

I just purchased my 4 door, 09 Wrangler on Thursday March 13. I first had to fill it up that Saturday the 15nd. When I did, the gas tank clicked off but gas still came pouring out of the tank (not the nozzle). I was incredibly irritated I just bought this Jeep and now there was gas pouring down the side and fenders. After cleaning it up I chaulked it up as faulty equiptment at the gas staion. However, the next 2 times I filled up, the same thing happened. This is incredibly frustrating. Not only is it dangerous but its disgusting. Not to mention these vehicles aren't cheap, we dont need to be worried about gas eating away at the vehicle as another expensive. I've heard there are several complaints regarding this issue and that Chrysler refuses to address it. I find this embarrassing on their part and shows poor business practice.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2014

While driving on the highway around 65 mph I encountered a bump in the road and the front of the car began to shake uncontrollably. I had to come to a complete stop on the highway to regain control of the vehicle. I got out of the vehicle and checked for any visible issues, but found nothing, so I continued with my trip. This occurred again later that same day in very similar circumstances, I was traveling around 65 mph hit a dip in the road, at a transition where the bridge overpass meets the asphalt, the car again began to shake uncontrollably in the front of the vehicle, and I had to stop the vehicle again to regain control and stop the shaking. After a little research I learned this is a know issue with Jeeps know as the Jeep death wobble.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

I have a 2009 4 door rubicon. I am experiencing major rust on the body under the doors, and with oxidation on non steel parts such as the mirror hardware and tire valve stems. I experienced the oxidation from the very start of owning the vehicle. In general event some bolts on the inside of the vehicle have rust on them. Chrysler is not will to do anything about it.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2013

Air bag light/chime began illuminating frequently (approximately once every few minutes) throughout the course of every drive, regardless of distance or speed. I took vehicle to dealer for inspection where it was determined the clockspring was defective. Part was replaced under a consumer purchased extended warranty.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2013

I drove over a dip in the road at approximately 45mph and my car started shaking uncontrollably. I truly felt the car was coming apart and I would wreck. I let off the gas and the shaking stopped. I have since discovered the "death wobble" and feel this is exactly what happened to me.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2013

I have not been in an accident yet, but a year ago I started having electrical issues inside the steering wheel of my 2009 Jeep Wrangler. I was told it is called the clock spring. With a bad clock spring, my horn and cruise control does not work, and also my air bag light is always on. If I were to get into an accident I do not feel safe knowing my air bags are not working properly. Also, with a bad clock spring there are chances of my air bag activating randomly for no reason so that really worries me. I have almost been wrecked into several times and I am not able to honk my horn. When I took it to the local dealership, I was basically told that it has been a very common problem in 2008-2012 jk Jeep Wranglers but they did not have the part to fix it. I figured there would be a recall for it since it is such a common problem, but only the right hand drive Jeep Wranglers had a clock spring recall. I believe the recall number for those are m31 and l37. I don't understand why the left hand drive 2009 jk Jeep Wranglers are excluded from this recall. This is very hazardous and I feel unsafe knowing my air bags may not work and also knowing I could potentially cause an accident if my air bags go off randomly. Not only that, but I know more Jeeps like mine that are driving around with the same problem. I would really appreciate it if this issue could be looked into. Thank you for your time.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2013

Driving to work at 5 am, and hit a uneven patch of pavement and front end of Jeep began to shake violently; like both tires went flat. I inspected, but tires were not damaged. After a few more days of this happening on regular occurence, I made appt. At authorized dealership in my hometown. They inspected and said steering dampner went bad. A couple days later, same problem started happening again. Made appointment and dealer suggested that balance and rotation was needed to correct problem. Had that done and problem started up again very next day. Made another appt. With same dealer and they inspected. I was told the dampner that was installed week previous was bad, so they replaced it again. When they finished installing second dampner, I asked what next step was if this didn't remedy issue. They simply told me "we don't know. Replacing dampner and balance/rotation of tires usually fixes it. " while searching the web for similar issues associated, I came across article an article about the Jeep "death wobble. " after reading thru numerous online forums, and watching related videos, it would appear that my Jeep is experiencing exact affects. Called Chrysler and registered complaint on 11 March 2013. Oddly enough, they have never heard of the "death wobble" nor had any recent complaints of these issues. This vehicle is very unsafe to drive!!!!.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2012

Every time I fill the gas tank, ever since I first bought it, it will spill gas upon shutting the pump off at top off. This was a problem with the 07/08 models to the point of a factory tank replacement, but the 09 model is not covered for some reason and should be. It will eventually ruin the paint and possibly the bumper cosmetics as well. Please help.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2011

Vehicle shakes uncontrollably around 55 or when I hit a bumb , took the Jeep two the garage and explain what was going on and was told it was the tires so bought new tires and wasn't the problem , I looked up the death wobble and seen many people with Jeeps have had the same problem and Jeep Chrysler won't do a recall and they should because this can very much cause an accident when you have no control , this is left up to the owners whom thought they bought a good product to figure out and pay to fix a problem that Jeep Chrysler should of fixed in the first place but it's all about profit and not safety !!!.

31 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2009

I have had a "hot oil" light come on my 2009 Jeep Wrangler a few times. From what I understand there is a recall out on this issue already for those people who do not have the "hot oil" light. This is not a fix! all this light is doing is saying that your transmission is hot enough to the point to cause a fire.
