Five problems related to vehicle speed control have been reported for the 2009 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 72 mph, the accelerator pedal was released however, the vehicle would not decelerate. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be replicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 41,900.
I just purchased a 2009 Jeep Wrangler unlimited x that is entirely stock. Within one week and the second time on a highway I experience what has been named the "death wobble. " within seconds it will go from a shimmy to a violent shaking that forces you to slow down or come to a complete stop which can be very dangerous on a highway in the left lane doing 55mph! since it started it has occurred every time I take it on the highway. Apparently this is a common issue among Jeeps but Chrysler is ignoring this defect and stating it is not a safety hazard.
Pulling away from a stoplight the plastic gas pedal snapped off - resulting in the inability to accelerate out of the intersection. I purchased a replacement from the local Jeep dealership that same week - and this has just occurred again (February 22nd 2013). This past time I was pulling out of a parking lot and the gas pedal snapped again. I am not an aggressive driver. There must be a flaw in this design.
While crossing 2 lanes of on coming traffic in the middle of the day the abs, esp and traction control lights came on and would not let me push the gas along with the right front brake "locking up". Because of the traction control coming on when I accelerate from a stop, even slowly, the engine responds as if I was slipping and losing traction, sputtering power and then all of a sudden it just stops. Now this has happened a few times within the last couple of days which is very scary considering there is absolutely no warning and can happen at any speed while driving. I have read some other forums on this issue and it seems to be pretty common with the make, model and year of this vehicle. This should not be taken lightly and should be fixed by Chrysler as it is a manufacturing defect.
The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. When applying pressure on the accelerator pedal at 10 mph the vehicle would not accelerate. She shut the engine off and restarted it to reset the computer system. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the computer system was repaired; however, the failure resurfaced and became progressively worse. The vehicle was taken to the dealer thirteen times and the technician replaced the throttle body. None of the repairs have remedied the failure. The vehicle identification number was unavailable. The failure mileage was 900. The current mileage was 16,000.
