29 problems related to tank assembly have been reported for the 2010 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Numerous time over the past 3 years I've had gas overflow / spill / spew out from while filling my tank with gas. This has happened at various gas stations and both using manually using the gas trigger or locking the gas trigger. I took the Jeep to the dealer last year and they said it would cost $1200 to replace the gas tank. From the research I have done there is already an investigation into this matter for my specific make and model.
Hello, my name is [xxx] and on January 4th, 2014 I purchased a 2010 Jeep jk Wrangler from a family friend, upon the first 3 times filling up (all so far) the gas has spewed out of the tank and onto the ground before I could shut off the pump handle. I've probably wasted at least 2 gallons already by doing this, which adds up quick. This seems very dangerous to me, one little spark could send the vehicle up in flames and harm me, and many others. I was wondering if there was any type of warranty to cover this so that myself, and others, don't have to pay hundreds of dollars to get the problem fixed, or worry every time we go to the pump. Thanks for taking time to read this, [xxx]. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Gas tank overfills no matter which pump I used at different gas stations. The vehicle was purchased new. This problem only has been occurring for the passed 4 months.
When filling up the gas tank to full (when the nozzle should automatically shut off), the gas will overflow/spit out fuel and spill. I've taken this into the Jeep dealer to determine what the cause is. The dealer's diagnosis of the problem was a faulty shutoff valve within the tank and to fix this issue, the whole tank would need to be replaced. This is not caused by "user error". This issue is a common occurrence with Jeep Wranglers as cited from numerous other complaints and should be recalled as spilled fuel poses a fire hazard to the fueling station, the vehicle, and the driver/passengers. . I have had my 2010 Jeep Wrangler for nearly two years, and recently the gas tank has begun to back up every time I fill up the vehicle. I do not try to "top-off" the tank, but the overflow sends fuel out of the vehicle creating exposed gasoline running down the rear quarter-panel & bumper. In some cases, a puddle of fuel forms causing a significant risk to my family, myself and others fueling at the station. This has happened consistently over the past two months. I've tried to remedy the situation by trying different fueling stations, pumps, and alternating between manual filling & using the auto fill lever on the fueling nozzle to no avail. Based on my research this is a pervasive issue on the 2010 Jeep Wrangler that should be addressed and remedied proactively rather than waiting for a serious incident to occur. Contrary to Chrysler's response of 'user error', I have been fueling different makes & models of vehicles for over 20 years without having this occur. I urge the NHTSA to further investigate this issue. I enjoy driving my Jeep, but I am now reluctant every time I have to fuel the vehicle.
Every time I fill my '10 Jeep Wrangler with gas, the gas pump shuts off and then the gas backs up out of my gas tank and pours out of my car all over the ground. I have tried not locking the gas pump on, going to different stations, and filling it slowly. Nothing works. It does the same thing time after time.
Gas fill spit back now occurs every time I fill the tank and it has caused burning to my skin from contact with the gasoline. There is also a fire hazard associated with the spilled fuel on the ground at the gas station.
When fueling my 2010 Jeep Wrangler, the tank overflows onto the ground at the pump. I have tried limiting flow at the handle and it still does it. This is a major fire hazard as raw fuel is spilled on the ground and drips from the rear of the vehicle.
Every time I fill up my tank, gas gushes out all over the side of my vehicle and onto the ground. The auto shutoff on the nozzle will not work. I am not "topping off" or leaving the hose unattended. This has happened at multiple gas stations. I feel that gasoline spewing out onto my clothes, all over the side of the Jeep and onto the pavement is clearly a safety hazard. This started happening about two months after my standard warranty ended. I was told by the dealer they are aware of the problem, but repair is not covered, even though the exact problem would be fixed for free if I had an older model Jeep.
Gas over flows out of gas tank at each fill up.
Fuel spills out of the tank when refueling at a gas station. If I fill up the tank, letting the gas pump shut off when it wants to, about a cup of fuel comes back out of the gas tank. I am not topping off the tank.
When pumping fuel into the 2010 Wrangler unlimited instead of the pump cutting off it spews gas out of the tank. Thinking it may be a pump failure I ignored. This problem has happened at every gas pump I go to. You can pump gas very slowly into the tank and when you think you are getting near release, but this does not fix the underlying problem with the gas tank. This is a safety hazard which could lead to potential fire issues, along with eroding paint. I have to get a car wash whenever this happens. The gas gets on my clothes and shoes. This problem also affects my job. The are numerous videos on you tube detailing this problem.
Fuel overflow when getting gas at the pump. Auto-off does not click off but also, when fueling manually, pump does not click off when tank is full. Also, the angle of the gas pump nozzle seems to affect severity of problem. This problem started back in January of 2012. Had the Jeep for 8 months with no problems.
When filling the tank gas spills out when the handle stops flow at the full tank level. It doesn't matter if you fill the tank slowly or even decrease the gas flow to the point just before the handle shuts off. It still overflows. I have read in forums that this is a common problem with Jeep jk models, possibly a defect with the tank check valve or the overflow drain line. The TSB's I've read only indicate a free dealer warranty fix for the 07 and 08 models but reports continue the be noted for '09 and '10 models as well. This safety hazard must be addressed.
2010 Jeep Wrangler rubicon unlimited: I recently took my Jeep to the dealership to attend to another recall and check out some problems - overflowing gas tank, squealing brakes, rough idle in traffic, increasingly rough and loud ride. I purchased my Jeep new 18 months ago and it now has approximately 22k miles. They replaced the gas tank which I now understand is a common issue on the 2010 rubicons. They told me I needed to replace both rotors which are no longer covered under warranty due to debris getting caught between the brake pad and rotor on both rear brakes. And, they explained the loud/rough ride was from the uneven wear on my front tires. The tread on my front tires showed severe cupping. The tech said it was from not rotating my tires often enough and this is a common problem on Jeeps since the front has more "play" and the rear is more "solid". He said there was nothing wrong with my Jeep. I questioned whether the significant uneven wear was acceptable after only 22k miles. He offered no other solution other than rotating the damaged tires to the back and wait for them to wear evenly. My concern was rotating the tires would just create issue with my other two tires as well. He said it's just normal and I'd need to replace all of my tires soon anyway. With the age of the vehicle being only 18 months with 22k miles, I question if this issue is not related to my suspension.
The contact owns a 2010 Jeep Wrangler unlimited. The contact stated that when refilling the fuel tank, gasoline would overflow and approximately one quart of fuel would spill. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised the contact that he needed a new fuel system. The fuel system was replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
Fuel tank overflows upon complete fill, major problem in many Jeep Wranglers over much of their production since 2007 evidently. Gasoline spills over vehicle , people and ground upon filling tank. Major safety and environmental hazard.
The fuel tank overflows when doing fill up every time. It happens at all gas stations and I never try to "top off" the tank. I do not want a fire, so my concern is for more than my ruined shoes and deteriorating paint near the tank. I have read of many others who have had this issue and is yet unresoilved.
On the first day Jeep gave me my new truck I took the Jeep to the nearest gas station to fill up the tank for the first time. When the tank filled up, it spilled fuel all over the ground , truck and gas station personel who was refuelling the truck ( there is personel in charge of refuelling in gas stations in my country : peru southamerica ) my 2010 Jeep Wrangler rubicon unlimitmed 4 dr was bought on this February of 2011 , and keeps having the same problem . My concern is that since my truck is not on the u. S territory ( but manufactured on the u. S ) Jeep on my country will try to avoid taking care of many of the recalls been made allready to the braking system , which I have read after I bought the truck. Is every Jeep dealer ( even outside u. S ) obligated to call his Jeep Wrangler customers for recalls ???. . . . . Cause they have not told me anything yet about everything written on the web.
Was refueling 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited at a local hess station and just as the tank was reaching capacity and the automatic shutoff on the nozzle engaged, fuel sprayed out of the tank. Gasoline sprayed on myself, the car and the ground. About 500 ml of gasoline was spilled. This was the first time I have refueled the vehicle since purchasing it.
Fuel spills out of the filler port during the refueling process. This condition generally occurs when the fuel tank is filled to the full or nearly full level and the gas pump automatically shuts or clicks off. The fuel splashes on the person fueling the car, the car itself, and onto the ground. This happens repeatedly, not just a single occurance.
Overflowing gas tank on 2010 Jeep Wrangler, when filling tank it overflows and spills to ground and person filling tank and onto Jeep.
I keep getting splashed with fuel when I fill up my gas tank. It's like there is nothing to prevent overspill when the tank is full or near full.
Tank overflows on gas fill up.
When I am filling up my gas tank on my 2010 Jeep Wrangler unlimited, the gas will sometimes overflow when the tank is half full or more. This has happened on 8 different occasions with various levels of fuel in the tank.
I purchased a used 2006 Jeep Wrangler x (tj) in July 2010 and the fuel tank overflows while pumping gas.
Fuel spilled out of the filler port during the refueling process when the fuel tank was filled to the full or nearly full level and the gas pump automatically shut off. Spilled fuel splashed on the person fueling the vehicle, and on the side of the vehicle and the ground.
2010 Jeep Wrangler when fill gas tank always over flows on first click from pump.
When fueling up my 2005 Jeep Wrangler the pump stops, but seems to have pressure built up in the tank because fuel spills out all over. Usually averages about 4-8 inch in diameter puddle on the ground. This happens every time I fill up and has been doing this for the past 9 months.
