Carrier/rack problems of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Four problems related to carrier/rack have been reported for the 2012 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2017

I have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler unlimited with 26000 miles. It has never been off road or damaged. It recently started stalling. It has been to the dealership 3 times for this problem. Initially none of the diagnostics found anything and they gave it back. It continued to stall while stopped and stalled, temporarily, on the metro train tracks. I took it back to the dealership and they again could not find anything wrong-based on my reading I suggested it might be the tipm. The dealership drove it again and said it did stall on the mechanic. So they fixed something ($700) dealing with the power. I picked it up and it stalled on me again on the next day. I called the dealership (river oaks Jeep in houston) and they did not return my call. I have also submitted an online report. 2 days ago, the Jeep again stalled while I was reversing out of a driveway. I put it back into park from reverse and restarted it. It restarted but would not go into gear. I then turned it off again, restarted again and it then went into gear and allowed me to get out of the way of oncoming cars. This pattern of stalling, being unable to go back into gear, requiring turning it off and restarting has been recurrent and has occurred exactly like that about 8 total times now. It additionally will be full of gas, going at a consistent speed down the road and the engine just "gives" and almost feels like it pauses. When it's in motion, it hasn't actually stalled, only when idling or in reverse. . I feel like at this point this is a major safety concern. The vehicle is no longer under warranty just due to the years since purchase but is under the required mileage. I see online that Jeep/Chrysler has had multiple issues with the tipm in other models and believe that this may bee the cause of these electrical problems.

2 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2015

I was involved in a single vehicle accident on 10/5/15, traveling approximately 30mph, when my Jeep suddenly jerked to the right without warning, causing it to swerve off the road and into a ditch. The Jeep hit the front end of the ditch at an angle that launched it airborne, then landed on the cement wall of a culvert approximately two feet away. The Jeep bounced twice on the cement wall, cracking the frame in two places, then landed in the culvert, hit the front end of the culvert, then hit a small pole where it finally stopped. Despite slamming on the brakes the entire time, nothing in the vehicle seemed to be working. My airbags did not deploy and my seatbelts did not engage, causing me to slam my forehead on the steering wheel with each impact (3-4 times, I honestly don't recall) and hitting my chest once on the steering wheel. I called Chrysler to report the incident after the insurance adjuster raised concerns about the airbags not deploying, and was given a case number and told I would be contacted. After a number of further attempts to contact them, they have refused to return my calls or acknowledge my complaints. I am now aware of a number of recalls regarding the orc module in many Chrysler vehicles, and wonder if this could have been a contributing factor in my accident. I suffered a severe concussion and was out of work for three months. I had to quit my second job, causing significant financial strain on my family. I have since had chronic neck pain and migraines, an mri showed traumatic disc herniations at c2-6, for which I have to see a neurosurgeon. I have had multiple injections and other procedures on my neck since the accident, but continue to have pain daily. At my request, my insurance company has kept the totaled Jeep, untouched, in a secured lot, until I can find someone to help me determine why the seatbelts failed to protect me.

3 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

Tailgate swings beyond allowable limit, even when the vehicle is parked on a level surface, causing the swing arm to break, brake light to crack and interior trim panels to be damaged.
