4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2023

I bought a 2012 Jeep Wrangler with 97,000 miles on it in December 2022. It was brought in for service due to some issues with the dash screen lighting, right blinker, and the heater. They first told me that all parts were on back order. I looked up the parts myself as I have a wholesale account and I showed that they were not on back order. I let them know this and conveniently, they were able to get all parts within a week. They called me when the vehicle was done for repairs and when I was driving it home, I noticed that the odometer was off by 23,000 miles. When I drove my vehicle home after having work done, it was at 74,355 miles. The dealership told me to bring it in right away. I brought it in the next day at 4:30pm. After a week, they told me that chilson's Jeep dealership gave them the wrong information when they were replacing the cluster for the dash lights and they did not reprogram it correctly. They asked me how long I was planning on keeping the vehicle because if I kept it for a while, then I would be okay if I went over the initial 97,000 miles and no one would know. They also gave me the option for them to buy it back. This was on 1/9/23. I called them on 1/11/23 and told them I did not want to keep the vehicle as it was a liability and illegal to roll back an odometer in a vehicle and the title would have to be changed along with other risks that are incorporated with it. I talked to my insurance company and other dealership owners in the area and no one was comfortable with me keeping the vehicle due to legalities and risks associated with this. Chippewa valley Mazda sales managers adam and nariah both told me they would only give me the purchase price and would not pay for anything over that. If they bought it back then I would need to come in with the vehicle and a check for over $6,000+. There is an open dot investigation on this. Adam stated today, 1/16/23 that they need my vehicle off their lot because it can't stay there and the loaner back.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2020

I had bought the car from the dealership with 34,000 miles on it and when I drove it home over 500 miles away I noticed the heater started blowing cool air on the driver side. The passenger side worked fine. As days went by it got worse and the driver side now completely doesn't work. But the passenger side does. I googled this and found hundreds of people saying the same thing. Most people pointing to the heater core and that something blocks one of the outlets. My local Chrysler/Jeep dealership wanted to charge me for a diagnostic test to see what the problem was. Apparently other people had this problem with even less miles on their Jeeps and also less than a year after buying the Jeep. It's very frustrating knowing I have a very lightly used vehicle with minimal mileage with this kind of problem. The problem happens while driving and stationary while idling.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2020

Clockspring going out , controls on steering wheel and horn not working plus no part available under the part # 05156106ac. Now traction control light is on and won't clear.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2020

Air bag light going on and off intermittently. Everything say clockspring issue from all I have read online. However, for some reason, left handed models not covered.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2020

After replacing battery (2 x) and having all battery cables thoroughly cleaned car will occasionally not start from parked position. Alternator and starter all pass tests as ok. Turns out win wireless module is faulty and needs to be replaced.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2019

Attempted to start my Jeep on the street parking and the alarm went off, horn blaring, wipers and fluid on constant, all lights flashing, reverse lights on, and it would not start. Pulled the total integrated power module (tipm) and sent it out for repair. Was told the tipm was in complete failure and had to be replaced. Searched the web and found that 2007-2015 tipms should be recalled and it was rejected.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2019

Vehicle stalled while in motion on a highway. This has been a consistent issue for the last several years. I believe it first occurred in 2016. The vehicle will just stall on a city street, in a residential area, or even on the highway. Fuel was not related as it has happened on a full tank of gas or a quarter tank. It was taken to the Jeep dealership on multiple occasions (that has been documented) because of this dangerous hazard, and they were not able to replicate so it was never fixed. I even showed them video evidence 3 times. The vehicle just stalls randomly while driving (in the middle of high speed traffic). The rpm would just go to zero, and when trying to start the car back up, it would try to crank, but would not start. The car would have to be turned off for 5 minutes and then the car would eventually start again. This would occur at least 1/month for several months. The Jeep dealership replaced fuel pump, and checked other components as the engine light never turned on, and they could not find the resolution to this issue. This is a highly dangerous problem and seems to be very common among this model year Jeep, and Jeep continues to claim no fault. Someone could die if their car stalled on the highway with cars going 70+ mph. An experienced driver may be able to maneuver, but certainly an inexperienced driver would not. This vehicle was intended to be for a teenage child, but I could not knowingly give this to them having this unresolved issue. After much research, I believe it is a faulty or defective crankshaft position sensor, but Jeep refuses to acknowledge this and continues to say this is not the issue, yet the car has continued to stall on various occasions still. They should be liable for any serious injury or death that may potentially occur! I will be taking this vehicle to be repaired elsewhere after my own research and troubleshooting.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2019

Same case reported on sept. 24/2019 , incidend # NHTSA 11257650.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2019

This vehicle caught on fire between the rear of the engine and the firewall on the passenger side of the vehicle. All fire suppression efforts failed and the vehicle burned to the ground. This vehicle had just returned from the dealership after being serviced for transmission problems. This vehicle a long history of mechanical defects requiring service, all of which was done at a Jeep dealership. Shortly before the fire began it looks like the vehicle started leaking transmission fluid. It was being operated at about 50mph on a paved roadway just prior to the fire. The fire was first noticed when pulling to a stop and parking after leaving the main roadway and pulling into a private drive of a residence. A trail of fluid was found on the main roadway beginning just prior to the turn into the driveway and ending at the Jeep. This Jeep had no modifications to the suspension or drive train and had stock size tires. The vehicle was up to date on all recall service work. I do not know what was the initial source of ignition but I did see transmission fluid feeding the fire.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2019

The vehicle is stalling while driving or acting as if its going to cut off while in motion causing a very uncomfortable jerking motion. It also powers off and will not move until 3-5 minutes later regardless of what gear it's in. This vehicle has cut off on me numerous times while driving and has even caused me to be stuck in the road blocking traffic. I've contacted the dealership multiple times over the past few months and I also have diagnostic receipts that claim they can't find any issues with my vehicle when they inspect it. However, about a week ago I was watching channel 4 news and they reported a recall for 2011-2013 Jeep grand cherokee and durangos for engine stalling issues related to the fuel pump. . Read more...

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2018

Continuing issue with little or no heat being produced in the passenger compartment. This has been repaired four time in the past six years. It works for a few months and then the issue reoccurs. This effects the ability to defrost/defog the windshield as well as making the interior very cold during the winter months. Chrysler cannot fix the issue even with a TSB having been issued about the problem.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2018

My Jeep has the clockspring damaged and my horn stopped working and also the airbag light came on .

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2018

Heater stopped working, leading to lack of defrost and inability to clear condensation from windshield. Only cold air comes out of the vents. This appears to be a common and known problem with 2012 Wranglers Chrysler issued a star case s1207000008, but has done nothing to offer a fix. This is clearly a safety issue with winter coming soon in michigan.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2018

The heater on my Jeep, which only has 41,000 miles on it, slowly stopped working. I took it to the dealer to have them check it out. The called later that day and said I need a new heater core which costs $1200. The next day the called back and said that I actually need a new heater core, radiator, thermostat, etc. Basically the whole heating/cooling system for the engine and the estimate is up to $2200. I looked online and found that this is not a new problem which is frustrating. It seems like it is a radiator problem that sends particles through the system and clogs the heater core. I'm hoping that there will be a recall so that I can recoup some of this $2200 that I'm about to have to pay to fix my Jeep. Especially since this is a manufacturing defect apparently!.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2018

The air bag light on the dashboard just randomly alerts off and on and this was at the same time all the left side panels of the steering wheel stopped working including the horn. If someone is sitting in the passenger side front seat and their distribution of weight shifts the air bag passenger alert system let's you know it's not functioning properly. I was told the problem has something to do with a clockspring and it's air bag wiring under the passenger side front seat to the alert system. I saw on this site where it mentioned a clockspring problem. It does this whether stopped or going. This is continuously an issue now. Please advise how I need to proceed with the recall.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2017

My Jeep Wrangler jku has the same engine as the Chrysler 200, the 3. 6 pentastar. The heat doesn't work. It doesn't matter if it reaches operating temp. The fluids are at optimum level, new thermostat. Performed a radiator flush and other heat trouble shooting checked out. I have about 88,000 miles. The dealer ship did some work on a cylinder head and discounted. At first I thought it was a favor but after I looked into the fix, I found others with same fixes.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2017

The heat just stopped working. I see this is a known issue and presented lawsuit against Jeep. It was working fine, stopped at store then nothing but cold air on the way home. Once finally home, turned car off then back on a few minutes later. Still cold air. Turned on high then all the way cold then all the way back to hot and finally warm air again. Please correct this issue. This is suppose to be the "most american car". That's why I bought this tank. Time to do the american thing and back your product and do the right thing.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2017

There are many of these vehicles that were manufactured in mexico and they had issues leaving residue in heater coil making the heat not work properly. If the heat does not work properly it can cause issues with person not being able to see due to heat not being effective enough to defrost a frosty or icy windshield. Jeep has been aware of this problem but will not issue a recall and the burden is pushed off onto the consumer. These are costly repairs and I am sure many people can not afford the repair the vehicle properly. I have also contacted Chrysler. If you google "no heat in 2012 Jeep" all the complaints are the exact same. This is major safety issue to anyone owning a vehicle that may not having warm air to keep windows clear of debris.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2017

When driving my Jeep it has shut off on its own. Today I when from drive to reverse and was trying to park on a busy street and the vehicle just shut off on its own. I had to put the vehicle in park turn the key to the off position and then start the vehicle again before I could drive again. This is very dangerous and could possibly kill someone if this happens on the interstate. Ive read many reports on line of people having the same problem.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2017

This is a known problem and yet still not recalled the tipm just failed in the Jeep (second one in a month) this time it did it while driving. The Jeep went all ape shit. Alarms going off, trying to restart, the speedometer wouldnt work. I thought I was going to crash and die. Happened on the highway and continued when I got on to the city streets the dealer mech said it probably went bad again(in less than a month) I see many people with the same issues(other suvs from same company have recall on the part, just not the Wrangler).

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

From: customer vehicle: 2012 Jeep Wrangler sport, purchased new in 2012. Reference: problems in heating system to whom it may concern, I purchased a new 2012 Jeep Wrangler sport from hendrick Chrysler Jeep in fayetteville, nc. Fourteen months later, I moved to florida, where there was no need to use the heater. Upon my return to north carolina in the winter of 2014, I noticed that heater on the driver's side was not as warm as the passenger's side. The following winter, the heat on the driver's side faded to a point where it was barely working. After researching the issue and speaking with a representative at hendrick Jeep service center, I learned that the heater core was likely the problem and that I would need to flush the heater core. In January 2015, I took my Jeep to a private mechanic to have the heater core flushed, which fixed the problem for a short time. Research online among Jeep owners of my model and year revealed that the long-term solution is a new radiator and heater core (neither of which are under warranty or under recall). The poor cleaning at the time of manufacturing has caused the casting of sand in the heater core and radiator, resulting build up that blocks heat. Now, in winter of 2016, my heater does not work. I cannot find a recall or a rebate for the more than $2,400 dealer estimate I received to replace my heater core and radiator. I found a Chrysler star case (see attachment) that gives steps to fix the problem without acknowledging its origins in manufacturing. I have emailed Chrysler with a request for support, to no avail. Given that this problem is so widespread and consistant among Jeep owners of my model and year, I wanted to share the case with the recall agency, although I know this is not a direct safety issue. .

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2016

The vehicle loses completely heat annually since 2013.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2016

My vehicle's heat is very poor on the driver's side which causes defrosting issues. I have had the heater core flushed but the issue still remains. During the flush I found what appeared to be casting sand in the coolant reservoir.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2016

The heat shield baffle above the muffler becomes completely unattached because both the nuts holding it in place and baffle itself corrode away. The baffle then drops on to the muffler and rattles. The baffle is made of very thin metal. This Jeep is a 2012 with only 30000 miles.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2016

Fire.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2016

I took my 2012 Jeep into a dealer spirit Dodge in swedesboro NJ 08085 Saturday 2/27/16 my complaint was no heat. I was told it needs a heater core a radiator, and trans cooler. And that my easy care extended warranty did not cover it even though it says it covers heat. My easy care contract number is egtk886782. My Jeep has 52000 miles. They said it has sludge in the system. Now my system is not schuelded to be cleaned flushed till 60 month. So it failed before the time. I was told it's a know problem but they have not recalled them. I bought the Jeep at vann Dodge in vineland NJ. So I really feel cheated. I have had no heat for a while but I didn't report right away.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

Faulty clockspring airbag light appears sporadically when vehicle is in motion and I have someone in the passenger seat, notifying me that their airbag is deactivated. Horns volume is weak. Possibly a coincidence, but the low tire pressure alert appears at start-up. All tires (goodyear lt285/70r17) read 45-50 psi. This part is recalled in 2007 and 2008 Jeep Wranglers, but not for 2009-2016. It is the exact same part.

31 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2015

2012 Jeep Wrangler was put in neutral and started with the ebrake up. I let up on the clutch as I exited the vehicle. As soon as my feet hit the ground, the vehicle accelerated at full speed and drove 60 ft, crashing completely through the garage door and ripping it off. Jeep claims that the vehicle is in properly functioning condition since they cannot repeat this independent acceleration.
