13 problems related to steering is loose have been reported for the 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Very loose steering from factory, with original ae steering box. Had the recent TSB done that replaced with aa (black) version of box and steering is still loose, a lot of freeplay and vehicle wanders at speeds above 40. Still dangerous.
Steering is so loose that at highway speeds the continued motion back and forth on the steering wheel that is required to attempt to keep my vehicle in it's lane causes it to wobble and become unsteady on the roadway. It is loose all the time but is most dangerously noticeable when the vehicle is driven at higher rates of speed. The date listed below is just one date that I specifically remember although it happens all the time.
2020 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sahara complaint. VIN: 1c4hjxen8lw285111 date of purchase 07/20/2020 I leased a brand new 2020 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sahara with a 2. 0 4cyl turbo. I am loving everything about the car except the steering. The steering on this vehicle is terrible and dangerous!!! the steering is loose and on it's own, it will drift or float to either side, right or left, on a smooth dry surface at virtually any speed. It is even worse at higher speeds. It cannot steer straight like any normal vehicle. This is a seriously dangerous problem that Jeep should be instituting a recall and repair order for! I've instructed my family members to contact our attorney if anyone is involved in a crash with this vehicle that receives injury, serious bodily injury or death. My family members will inform our attorney that this dangerous problem existed since the day it was purchased and that the manufacturer (Jeep) knew about this from numerous complaints from customers, and yet so far has failed to institute a recall for repair. Check online and you will find many owners complaining about their new Wrangler's steering problem. Online aftermarket companies are attempting to sell products that "may" resolve the problem. Why should any new owner have to spend money on an after market product for a brand new car? if Jeep does not initiate a recall, I will write complaints and negative reviews everywhere I can and this will be the last time I purchase one. I will recommend to everyone not to purchase a Jeep product because of this gross negligence.
The steering is loose and vehicle wanders at highway speed. It's very difficult to keep in a straight line at highway speed. Feels extremely unsafe. Dealer says this is "normal" for a Jeep.
While driving the Jeep, it is almost impossible to keep the vehicle in a straight line. I have to constantly adjust the wheel to keep myself in my lane, otherwise I drift from left to right. It does not matter the speed either, if I don't keep correcting myself, I just end up in the lane next to me or almost crossing over the lines. Besides the vehicle wandering all over the road, the steering is very loose.
Steering is loose which manifests as wandering while driving. Constant correction is needed to stay in a lane. This is fatiguing and could lead to an accident.
The steering is loose and has play in the steering wheel. It is difficult to keep the Jeep going straight because you constantly have to make steering corrections. The dead zone play in the steering wheel happens while stopped and driving.
The steering is very loose. You can turn the wheel several inches before the car reacts. Difficult to keep the car between the lines. The tire inflation has been checked.
While driving at highway speeds, the steering become sloppy and unresponsive. This causes the vehicle to wander from side to side. The steering is loose, so any correction to prevent the wandering is not enough or too much. This causes a loop where the wandering becomes side to side driving. At these speeds it is in danger of flipping or hitting another car. Any wind or seam in the road is also cause for concern, as the outisde forces cause the driver to correct the vehicle. With the steering correction is nearly impossible. 2 events in 1 week of ownership resulted in letting the car coast to a stop (on highway shoulder) in attempt to regain composure after excessive side to side wandering nearly flipped the car. It is unsafe to drive.
The steering is very loose and extremely dangerous on the highway. While driving on the highway, it is extremely difficult to steer straight. I have to make large steering wheel adjustments just to remain in the lane. Driving this Jeep is very unsafe at highway speeds.
The steering is very loose and dangerous to drive at speeds over 50 mph. This is not a safe vehicle and will result in injury or death to the driver and its occupants.
When traveling on the highway at or above 60 mph, the Jeep wanders and doesn't maintain a straight line. The steering is very loose and very difficult to remain in my lane at all times. I feel very unsafe traveling on the highway with this vehicle.
Driving at highway speeds, the steering feels loose and the Jeep tends to wander left and right. Under certain circumstances, such as curves in the highway, especially going downhill, controlling the direction of the vehicle becomes difficult and scary. The only thing to do under such circumstances is to slow down sufficiently to maintain directional control. On sept 1, 2019 I've almost ran into the median divider on I-70 west, west of evergreen CO. On sept 2, 2019, I was struggling to stay in my lane heading east on I-70 into denver, just east of golden, CO.
