Driving on an interstate highway in florida, hit a small "rut" in the roadway at highway speeds and the front end started shaking "violently" to the point I though the vehicle was going to "roll over". I had to slow down, switch from the center lane of a three lane highway crossing over the outside lane then onto the shoulder of the highway, get the speed down from 70 to 50 mph before the "violent shaking" stopped. When speaking with a service center for Jeep I was told this is a "known issue" with the 2021 Jeep Wrangler but there is no recall for the vehicle year 2021 but there were for other vehicle years, which I find unbeleivable!!!! as a retired police officer I will tell you this is a very dangerous situation that needs to be addressed immediately or someone will get killed in a crash!!!.
Beginning September 30th I experienced the death wobble while driving on the highway. It cause violent shaking of my vehicle. It stopped when I slowed to about 50 mph, each subsequent day after that it would start shaking when I reached a speed of over 60 mph. It is currently with the dealer to be repaired. Issues include: steering shock has air, also there is an updated longer shoulder bolt that holds the dampner that should fix the steering wheel shake. They also discovered the shock absorbers leak shock oil. In addition, I have had to replace the auxiliary battery placed 2x since I have bought and it is already draining to low levels, which will prevent the electronic system to work less than 1 year after replacing the battery last. These all are defects to the design and should be recalled as they are safety issues.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving 74 mph, the vehicle vibrated violently, after which the steering wheel began to jerk from the contact’s hands, prompting the contact to pull over to the shoulder the roadway. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was able to duplicate the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was experiencing the death wobble; however, the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 31,000.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving at various speeds over 45 mph, the vehicle was shaking and vibrating after driving over bumps on the roadway. When driving above 30 mph and going over a bump the car shakes and wobbles violently feeling like the tires and steering wheel will fall off. This has been referred to as the “death wobble. ” the car has some warranty remaining and is going in for repair with an authorized Jeep dealer.
Jeep death wobble. While driving at 65 mph on the freeway, I drove over a small bump in the road. My vehicle started to shake uncontrollably. The shaking would not stop until I slowed down to under 30 mph. This is very unsafe to do while driving on a busy CA freeway. The first time this shaking happened my vehicle had about 26,000 miles. Within the next 1000 miles of driving, the wobble has happened approximately 10 more times, one of which the vehicle went off the road into a ditch. I contacted Jeep and they said they would not fix the problem because the 3-yr/36,000 mile warranty expired. I asked if they were ok with having unsafe vehicles on the road and they said "yes". The front suspension is the system that failed. My safety was at risk when the vehicle was shaiking and went off the road. The safety of other drivers was at risk when I had to slow down to under 30 mph to get my vehicle to stop shaking. The vehicle was taken to a Jeep dealership for inspection/repair but they would not diagnose the problem without me pre-paying a $250 fee. The vehicle was taken to an independent service center and the problem was confirmed. The vehicle was not inspected byt he manufacturer, police, or insurance. There were no warning lights or symptoms before this problem first appeared.
Death wobble. Loose, or misaligned mechanical parts shake violently when driving on highway causing the “wobble” in the front end steering and suspension. Exactly the same way the 2018 and 2019 Jeep issue occurred, as noted by nthsa in 2019.
I was driving to work on 7-25-24 at approximately 65 mph and suddenly my Jeep started to shake . It was so violent I just grabbed the wheel so tight , let off the gas and hoped I didn't crash. Cars were swerving around me. I called the dealer and told them the problem. I refused to drive the car and had it towed to the dealer. This is the second time this death wobbled happened in the last two years. The dealer ended up changing the steering damper both times. I feel just changing the same parts is not fixing this problem. Now I have a vehicle that I'm deathly afraid of driving. Apparently there is a known problem with this death wobble . I am writing this not just for my self but everyone else that is at risk and don't even know about this. I hope someone really looks into this problem . I am not sure what my rights are and want to get out of my lease . This car is not worth dying for. Thanks in advance for you help.
In Jan 2023 my Jeep experienced the “death wobble” where I hit a bump at speeds above 60mph and the steering started violently shaking. The Jeep was less than 2 years old and had less than 20,000 miles; all stock, never lifted and not used for offroad. I took the Jeep to the gilbert az Jeep dealership who determined it was the steering stabilizer and replaced it. This week, in July 2024 the death wobble returned on the freeway going full freeway speed and I struggled to maintain control of the vehicle. I contacted the Jeep dealership and they said I could pay $200 to diagnose and if it was the steering stabilizer again all they could do was put a new one on. If it was anything else they would not cover as the Jeep was 5 months out of warranty - but has only 29,000 miles on it. His suggestion was to buy an aftermarket part. He said this part fails frequently. This is unacceptable! why has this part not been recalled or remade?? this is going to result in a violent accident or death.
The 2021 Jeep Wrangler wheels wobble at moderate speeds. The dealer informed me that Jeeps up til 2020 had this problem and it was covered under a extended warranty. I just had to spend over $300 to get the steering damper replaced and I cannot get anyone at Jeep to talk to me about this problem, even though it is a known problem.
The front and rear driver side shocks were both leaking oil discovered by the local Jeep dealership service department. This looks to be a common occurrence as others with same make, model, and year have also experienced this problem with the leaking shocks. This failure in the shocks did cause a vehicle wobble at higher speeds while on the highway. Both shocks were replaced.
I am reporting a serious safety defect involving my 2021 Jeep Wrangler rubicon (VIN: [xxx]). The most significant issue occurred at approximately 50,000 miles when the vehicle experienced a violent steering and suspension instability event commonly referred to as "death wobble. " while traveling at approximately 60 mph on a highway, the vehicle suddenly began shaking violently from side to side. The steering wheel became extremely difficult to control, and I had to fight to maintain control of the vehicle while slowing down in active traffic. The event was severe enough that I genuinely feared the vehicle could roll over or cause a collision. Prior to my experience, my wife experienced a similar incident while driving the same vehicle. The safety risk extends beyond my family to surrounding motorists who could be involved if the driver loses control. Immediately following the incident, I contacted the servicing dealership, Jeep Chrysler of somerset, massachusetts. The dealership informed me this was a known issue and instructed me not to drive the vehicle above 55 mph until it could be inspected. After inspection, I was advised that the steering damper was defective and that additional suspension-related components could also be contributing factors. The steering damper was replaced, but I was required to pay for the repair. The dealership further advised that instability could continue and recommended changing to smaller tires to reduce the issue. I also reported concerns through Jeep/stellantis customer service channels and have documented multiple service visits regarding this and other vehicle issues. Despite repairs, the vehicle has never driven the same. My family avoids highway travel in the vehicle, and we do not feel comfortable transporting our children on long trips due to concern information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
When I encounter a bump in the road or uneven pavement at highway speeds, the Jeep begins to wobble violently (being shook like a bag of popcorn). I have to release the gas and slow down for it to stop. This has happened numerous times over the past 2 years. I didn't report it previously as I thought it was just a Jeep thing and poor manufacturing. Now that I have become aware that it is prevalent in the Wrangler for years and most likely a part (suspension damper or bushings) issue, I am reporting it.
Known Jeep “death wobble” sudden violent shaking after hitting pothole or uneven surfaces.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at mph, the steering wheel began shaking violently, making it challenging to steer. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the air was bled from the dampener and rotated the tires there was a crack in the ball joints, and it was diagnosed that the steering dampener needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 18,000.
Jeep will occasional shake violently at approximately 60 mph. Had vehicle in to dealer in July 2023. Dealer said problem fixed. Most recent incident March 19th. Commonly referred to as Jeep “death wobble. ” vehicle in shop again.
While driving vehicle on highway at 70mph, vehicle went completely out of control shaking violently and would not stop violently shaking until a complete stop on a highway. My wife thought she was going to die. Apparently this is known in the Jeep community as the "death wobble. " there needs to be a recall immediately before someone dies. This is completely un expectable.
While driving our Jeep there are many times on the highway that it starts to shake and wobble very bad. To the point where we have to slow down sometimes under 50mph before it stops doing it. It is very dangerous and the dealer keeps telling us when they test drive it it doesn't do it so there's nothing they can do. Stay away from these.
My 2021 Wrangler began experiencing a violent shaking and reduction of steering control in July 2023. The violent shaking would begin if my vehicle hit a bump while traveling at 65 mph or more. To regain control, I would have to brake and reduce speed to under 65mph (which also is extremely dangerous to do on a freeway). Thunder Jeep in bartow, FL replaced a broken steering component that temporarily fixed the issue. The issue has now returned in late January 2024. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle.
Experienced death wobble at 50 mph multiple times on an hour drive on paved highway. Jeep is stock, no lift, no big tires. Jeep has 32,000 miles.
I have been experiencing the "death wobble" front end issues. It prevents me from highway driving. First experience almost caused an accident. Dealer said it requires a new steering damper but have been terrible with information on if and when part was shipped and when I can expect the issue to be resolved.
I have experience multiple episodes of the "death wobble"that previous 2021 Jeep Wrangler have reported over the past year. The steering wheel starts to wobble at times going over 60mph or hitting a bump. It appears that that the auto maker does not have an answer given the reports I have reviewed by NHTSA.
At 48,600 miles when driving on bumpy road, the infamous death wobble occurs where the front end/steering wheel shakes uncontrollably for a few seconds until the vehicle slows down.
1. Driving 70 mph on rt 95, the road was somewhat rough. I experienced severe wobbling (Chrysler calls this a shimmy) from the front end up to the steering wheel. I had to slow to about 35 mph so I could maintain control of the car. Jeep dealership said the car was manufactured with an older steering dampener. A new one is not available. 2. The display screen sometimes takes over many electrical functions. Heat and defrosting were not working during driving in a snow storm. Both of these deficiencies are safety issues and should be on a recall.
Jeep death wobble. Same problem as the 2018/2019 models. Over 45 mph and/or hit a bump and the Jeep wobbles uncontrollably and won’t stop until you slow to almost a stop. Incredibly dangerous for highway driving. There are no warning signs before it happens. This happened to me on a congested and fast moving highway.
While driving on the highway I have went over bridges or hit uneven pavement and my vehicle will go into a violent wobble with no control. It is a factory vehicle with no modifications. Happens more frequently in cold weather.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at highway speeds, the vehicle was violently shaking while driving over a bump in the road. The shaking eventually ceased after allowing the vehicle to coast to a slower speed. The failure occurred without warning and mostly occurred during the fall and winter months. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to the death wobble. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither the manufacturer nor the dealer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
Death wobble at higher rate of speed. Has happened multiple times.
Driving down freeway or any road with bumps set my Jeep into an uncontrollable bouncing. Today was the worst one so far. Very scary on freeway almost lost control had to drop way down in speed just to get control again. Took Jeep into dealer service department right away. Waiting for service to follow-up with me.
At speeds about 35-45 mph and again between 55-60 mph vehicle steering will shake uncontrollably, with tire bounce. Requires sudden slowdowns in order to regain control. Dealership has replaced tie rods and steering stabilizer with no resolution. The shake has been present since purchasing from the dealership and has become progressively worse. Those driving behind report the appearance that "tires are going to come off".
Death wobble on my 2021 Jeep Wrangler after getting over a certain speed and hitting a bump it shakes violently.
My Jeep started shaking violently and was uncontrollable. I have to carefully decelerate and stop to resolve the issue. This seems to happen @ 45 mph & higher. This happens in traffic which is unsafe for myself & other drivers.
Death wobble. When traveling over 45 mph and Jeep hits a bump or even mild uneven area in asphalt it can occur. It is unpredictable as it will not always happen. Vehicle has varying degrees of severity in shaking, threatening to become out of control and cause accident. It will force you to try and slow which is not easy and pull off highway until it stops. Dealership (in manassas) sold this vehicle to us this past March and dealership in fredericksburg (stafford cdj) left us without a rental car until replacement part comes in. They have been horrible about responding and getting in touch to resolve this issue and did not give us a rental call even though our warranty covers it. It has become apparent it will put our lives at danger and others.
Vehicle at highway speeds shakes uncontrollably and makes you slow down to maintain control also causes you to vear into other lanes when trying regain control. It happens all the time at those speeds and have to park the vehicle and not drive. Jeep is having hard time finding parts. My vehicle is all factory stock and no modifications have been made to it. Very scary and very very dangerous to drive.
Violent wobble in steering wheel when going speeds above 50. Has happened 6+ times over the last month. Feels very unsafe. Car under warranty. Dealer cannot identify issue.
