I was driving 70-75 mph on interstate xxx going south from [xxx] to [xxx] after picking up my friends. I had e-save mode on to save the battery for later and out of nowhere the car lost all power and would not accelerate. Some writing flashed across the screen telling me to pull over in the emergency lane and stop and then restart the Jeep in hybrid mode. I had to throw on my hazards and pray someone who wasn't paying attention didn't hit me while I was no longer accelerating and trying to change lanes to get into the emergency lane. One in the emergency lane I was able to shut off the Jeep and restart it but e-save mode was no longer available. I was able to resume driving but only in hybrid mode. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I was involved in a collision. The front driver's side hit another car, causing a lot of damage. The surprise was the fire. There is no reason for it to have caught for the way it did. The door was jammed, so resorted to unhooking the soft top, while I caught fire. I opened the top and jumped off the top, crawling away with burns and cuts before the entire engine exploded. I could have still been in that car, and I don't think I would have made it.
On 3/3/2026, I brought me Jeep 4xe to the Jeep dealership in paris, kentucky to have the 68c recall performed. The Jeep dealership used version #7 of the 68c recall instructions to updated all software modules and then to perform a 7 mile test run to engage the electric engine and to stress the vehicle per the instructions documented in the recall instructions. Document is identified * high voltage battery * reference: 68c/NHTSA 25v-741 * revision: 7 * edition: February 2026 * details: additional dtc added to the end of section b. Bpcm software update after picking vehicle up from dealership, I proceeded home via a state highway route 68 (paris pike). The roadway is a 4 lane divided highway and has a speed limit of 55mph. I set my vehicle to hybrid mode and then placed it on cruise control as I had done numerous times over its 25,000 miles. During the drive there were occasional rolling hills and inclines. I gauged the hills to be about a 1% grade on average but never exceeding 2% grade. During these inclines, the gasoline engine engaged and the rpm gauge on the instrument cluster registered 3000rpm. This excessive engine rpm had never occurred before the 68c factory recall procedure. In all other instances of the engine engaging, the rpm would engage at 2000rpm. I contend that the the engagement of the gasoline engine on these small inclines was not warranted and that the excessive rpm's of 3000 is not normal and was never experienced prior to the 68c recall fix. I am submitting this information for review and documentation. Video of the instrument cluster gauge showing the rmp gauage and the display panel showing the engine and battery kw used were taken to document the process. I believe that the engagement of the gasoline engine at 3000rpm will cause excessive wear of the engine and is a direct result of one of the software updates that was used to complete the 68c recall.
After 68c recall fix in January, the following has occurred: -check engine light on immediately -replaced electric coolant heater -sluggish in both hybrid and electric modes -form indicators - constant fuel oil refresh mode -change oil required indicator on -engine revving high at low speeds -jumping when putting into drive / idling / shifting issues --replaced all 4 shocks and just yesterday on 2/27/complete and total loss of power while driving on the highway. Major safety issue and a near crash.
68c recall did not fix recurring issue with this vehicle: 12/2/25 – the vehicle was towed to the dealer under safety recall 68c (battery fire risk) in an undrivable state “service charging system” message, vehicle would not disengage from park, no power, battery, charging, service engine lights on. 12/18/25 – the dealer informed me that recall 68c had been completed, stated that the vehicle was repaired and safe to drive, and told me to “rest assured. ” I was instructed to pick up the vehicle on that basis, and I did so. 12/20/25 – just two days later, while driving approximately 60 mph on the highway in electric mode with more than 90% charge, the vehicle suddenly lost electric propulsion for over 30 seconds, rapidly losing speed and nearly requiring an emergency stop in active traffic. A dash notification appeared stating “electric mode unavailable,” and the vehicle reverted to hybrid mode. I immediately left a message for the dealership that same day requesting a call back to determine next steps; no call was returned. 12/20–12/26 – because of this serious failure and ongoing safety concerns, the vehicle was driven only minimally. 12/27 – when I attempted to start the vehicle, it again failed. The dash displayed “service charging system” along with battery, service engine, and service electrical warning lights. The vehicle would not disengage from park, would not start, and had no usable power. 1/1/26- the vehicle remains at the newport Jeep dealership & service center, technicians continue to try to diagnose the problem and are unable to do so. The 68c recall was an ineffective attempt at resolving this significant recurring safety issue.
I have experienced at least five times in which my vehicle does not start and a "service charging system" error message shows on the dash resulting in the vehicle having to be towed to newport Jeep in middletown ri for service. Every recall that has been issue has been "fixed"- my hybrid battery has been replaced, my high voltage wire has been replaced. I tried to pursue a buyback request and was rejected in March 2025. I am aware of the 68c safety recall and that there is no repair at this time. Again on 12/9/25 my vehicle would not start, the "service charging system" error message was on the dash and my vehicle has had to be towed back to the dealership. They are not able to diagnose the issue. I want to pursue a buyback as this vehicle is defective and unsafe.
I received the recall of my leased vehicle and I immediately called Chrysler stelantis and was told that there was nothing they could do. This recall materially restricts the safe use of my leased vehicle. I request early termination of my lease without penalty or a replacement vehicle. I am a 100% disabled veteran and cannot comply with the recall’s conditions they stated that they will take back my lease but I will be penalized for the early termination and also for any recoupment of the vehicle when it goes to auction. This is unacceptable and has placed myself, my family,, my residence and other vehicles in danger. I cannot abide by the recall.
The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle started losing motive power. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The contact stated that the message "performance issue" was displayed, and a red light was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and drove the vehicle to a local dealer. The dealer was unable to diagnose the vehicle, and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The contact stated that months prior to the failure, the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 24v720000 (electrical system) by the same dealer. The contact related the failure to the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
Car shut down on 8/25/25 and would not start. Indicated problem with charging system. Vehicle is currently in cabo san lucas, bcs, mexico. Towed car to local Jeep dealer. Car had outstanding recall (zb7 2021-2023 jl 4xe loss of motive power). Dealer diagnosed issues as a failure of the battery, so that was replaced, along with software updates to address the recalls. We had to pay over $900 out of pocket for these repairs, and it stayed with the dealer for 3. 5 weeks. Two days later the vehicle is again failing with the same issues and will not start. It began with the check engine light coming on, then a/c stopped cooling, then the car only would stay in hybrid mode, and the transmission was revving. After stopping the car and shutting it off it will not restart.
I was traveling at 80mph on an interstate in the fast lane. There were only two lanes. Road was straight with a slight incline. Temperature was 98 degrees. I had been traveling for 10 hours that day. I hear the same bing chime the Jeep makes when it switches from electric to hybrid mode. I was already in hybrid mode and I experienced a lost of power. My vehicle started to coast which it never does because the regenerative breaks always slow me down. I noticed a message on my display but I could not read it as I used the momentum I had to reach the shoulder of the slow lane and coast to a stop. I put the car in park. The message was gone. A few seconds after putting the vehicle in park, it restarted and behaved normally again. This happened one day after being serviced at the dealer. I have all recalls completed including one that covers this issue. I took the Jeep in to be checked and they were unable to read codes or detect any issues.
The vehicle experienced multiple serious fuel system failures, including a failed fuel injector and high-pressure fuel pump. After these components were replaced, it was confirmed that fuel was still entering the engine crankcase. At no point did the vehicle trigger a “check engine” light, oil dilution warning, low oil pressure alert, or any hybrid/electric powertrain. This represents a critical safety & reliability issue. Fuel dilution of engine oil can: severely degrade lubrication, increase crankcase pressure, and/or lead to internal engine failure or fire the lack of any warning or diagnostic code suggests either: a software calibration issue in the ecm/bcm that failed to detect the problem, a sensor failure, and/or a defect in the onboard diagnostic system itself. This could indicate a broader defect affecting the safety of the 4xe platform and request investigation. This failure delayed necessary service and put both vehicle and occupants at risk.
The exhaust system is ran underneath the gas tank . I am concerned that if I’m involved in a rear end accident that it may cause an explosion such as what has happened to previous Jeeps that had the exhaust system ran underneath the gas tank.
On [xxx] my 2022 Jeep Wrangler hybrid was parked in my carport. Around [xxx] I started smelling something burning so got up to check the house and then went to the garage to check our cars. On checking the Jeep I noticed that the inside of the cabin was filling with smoke. I immediately called 911 and as I was on the phone with them the Jeep spontaneously burst into flames on the inside. The fire department arrived shortly after. They began flooding the Jeep with water and had to drag it out of our car port. Once they had it away from the house the continued to flush it with water and also placed a fire retardant blanket over the top of it to contain the fire. It continued to burn for several more hours until a tow truck arrived to take it to a yard. The fire truck had to follow the tow as the car was still smoldering as they loaded it. According to the fire marshals' initial assessment he believed the fire was started from the Jeeps lithium ion battery. * it is believed to be the lithium ion battery. It has a recall and I had the recall scheduled for 1/9/2025 but it caught fire on [xxx]. The Jeep is with progressive my insurance company and could possibly be inspected at request. * luckily we caught it before it was fully engulfed. Jeep did emit noxious fumes while it was on fire and being put out. Our neighbor had to evacuate because of the fumes possibly entering her house. * it has been confirmed by progressive and they have placed Jeep on notice. * it was inspected by the ins CO. They are awaiting on the inspector from Jeep. * there were no warning or indications prior to this happening. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The engine lost power while driving and was almost t-boned the first time the issue happened. No warning lights were present before the loss of power. I was leaving a stop sign and crossing traffic did not have to stop. The posted speed limit for the cross street is 40 mph. The dealership updated the software, and the Wrangler 4xe was returned the same day. Less than two weeks later, the loss of motive power occurred again. The dealership had the vehicle for almost 40 days and replaced the high-voltage battery pack. About 50 miles after the car was returned, the check engine light came on. I was almost home when this happened and had the 4xe towed for the third time. Texan Jeep claims they had engineers from Jeep look at the vehicle while it was in the shop for an extended period of time. These vehicles are not safe to be on the road! the safety of any other vehicle around a 4xe is at risk. They can shut down and go into limp mode without warning, with or without the recalls being complied with. The only reason I did not have a significant accident was my training as a commercial airline pilot and dealing with simulated emergencies.
My 4xe goes into turtle mode several times a week and loses power as I am driving. I have contact Jeep and 2 dealerships regarding this several times and they said since they can't duplicate it, there is nothing they can do. Has been happening for over a year.
My Jeep began experiencing a death wobble going about 65 mph . When driving at 65 mph and went over a bump on the roadway my vehicle’s steering and suspension began shaking violently and almost caused an accident. Anytime the vehicle was cranked up the throttle was elevated and stayed elevated till for 10 mins and you can not drive for 20 mins because the throttle would stick wide open and unable to lower . The exhaust has a backfire upon acceleration as well. The exhaust system is ran underneath the gas tank which I believe is a hazard . There is a ticking and knocking noise in the engine as well.
Dec 23 took mine in for recall service. Had no issues prior to having this done. Pick up the same day. Was told passed the drive test. Drove to work Dec 24th (26 miles round trip) no issues. Did not drive on christmas. Placed it to charge that night, for drive to work the 26th. Noticed it did not charge completely. On the way in to work service light came on. Time to leave work, it would not start. Dash had the service charging station. Waited a few minutes. Then it did finally start. Tried to place it in esave. It would not go. Regeneration went off. It drove horrible. Slow acceleration, especially from a complete stop. Got it home and had it towed to a different dealership that had performed the update. Was told a module is bad and they are keeping it until the 30th to check for other issues. They said as a precaution to ensure I was safe on the road. Terrifying experience.
Wife was going to work. Started to notice difference in the feel of the drive. Then the check engine light came on. When she started to accelerate the vehicle jerks. When the vehicle is at a stop then accelerates the it takes about 5 seconds for the car to start moving. Today the vehicle turns on but can’t switch gears to put it in reverse or drive. Vehicle is a paper wait and the earliest time I can take in to a certified mechanic is 1 month. I’ve had multiple issues with this car. Death wobble, electric recalls. And a recall that stated part not available park your car not in your garage and don’t charge your hybrid…. How can this car be allowed on the streets with this many issues under 2 years.
See attached document for complaint.
When applying brakes at low speed (under 20mph) pedal feels soft and brakes do not engage as expected- vehicles travels further than anticipated. At times engine races and vehicle surges forward, other times abs malfunctions, causing tires to squeal and vehicle to lurch. There is no reason for the abs to engage when traveling under 20mph on an even, dry road. I have had other issues such as overheating, which the dealership observed, but the computer had no trouble codes for, so I would be happy to have it inspected. The vehicle surging forward when brakes are applied is a safety concern, as is unreliable braking and the abs engaging inappropriately. I have not been to the dealer for this issue yet, I was able to document the occurrence from my dashboard cam this weekend. I have video in my dashcam with the squealing and lurching that I can't upload.
I have a Wrangler 4xe that I purchased August 2022. Yesterday the Jeep went dead while driving 30mph. This already happened 2 times.
Brakes stopped functioning. Jeep started accelerating. Very unsafe speeds approaching a school zone. Eventually brakes reengaged and then engine shut down.
Recall #95b one of many since I purchased my vehicle. Cannot use it for what it was purchased for which was to use electric and save gas money. Now recall states not to plug in vehicle and that it can catch fire and explode at any time running or not. I am scared to death to drive this vehicle and have my child anywhere near it. And it is our only vehicle which costs me over $1000 a month payment I can barely afford. Its causing us extreme stress and anxiety. I have been trying for months to get rid of this vehicle which has dropped over 50% in the value.
22’ Jeep 4xe loss of motive power vehicle wouldn’t start for approximately 15 minutes. Showed charging system error and a battery light was on. Once vehicle started it was driven 5 minutes, parked and turned off. Within 30 minutes it was started again, and driven down the street when it lost power and indicated the speed was limited. I attempted to turn around to get back and park it when it quit in the middle of an intersection. Vehicle had a message to put it in park. I did. It wouldn’t restart or go into neutral to even push it out of the road. After about 10 minutes it started and I drove it back. It kept losing throttle and rolled opposite direction down a hill while in gear and still running. The throttle intermittently would work and rev then move forward. I backed it uphill into my driveway with it continued to roll forward and then rev the engine and reverse. When it losses power to the pedal it doesn’t rev the engine and will roll. Instrument panel and lights/entertainment still work when it does this. Mine and my children’s safety were put at risk. We called the dealer where we purchased from ‘orangeville Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram - 207163 highway 9 east, orangeville on l9w 2z7’ was told to bring it in. I said it was extremely dangerous and unsafe to drive. I asked for them to have it towed in and they refuse to pay for the towing. We mentioned a query into safety recall 22v-865 by odi we found but they stated it was unknown to them and VIN didn’t show an open recall. We are without a vehicle as it sits in the driveway presently. (incident may be related) in Nov 2023, about 9 months prior to this my [xxx] daughter was driving with my 9 and 11 y/o in the back seats and went into a ditch, damaging the front passenger fender, front bumper and hood. She mentioned something happened to the car and she lost control. There was no police report for this. There were engine lights on. We called a tow to get it out. The engine light went away on it own. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of infor.
I own a 2022 Jeep Wrangler rubicon 4xe, I purchased the vehicle new on [xxx] (purchased in TN, registered in va). Since owning the vehicle it has been in the shop 9 times, most recently in the shop because it was completely dead and they found out the battery was leaking acid, this is the same battery they had just replaced a year earlier. It has lost all power and shut off several times, Jeep continues to say there is no issue. The loss of power is concerning because it happens when driving on busy roadways. I filed 2 lemon claims with them, both times offered $2800 for inconveniences and $3600 the last time. I have also been instructed to park the vehicle outside of my garage and told it might be a good idea to not charge it daily due to a fire hazard, when buying a hybrid, I paid extra in hopes to get better gas mileage when traveling to and from work, now I put my children's lives in jeopardy everyday while driving it! and most recently when driving across a bridge or rough roads (I live in the south so rough roads are an everyday thing), it has started shaking so badly that I have pulled off the road due to fear of the vehicle flipping or causing an accident. It is frustrating to pay for a vehicle that is a hazard and does not work properly. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Upon purchase of the Jeep, within 8k miles, the fuel pump went out and left me stranded. Now, at 27k miles, the car has been undriveable for 4 months. The engine will not accelerate, causing near collisions on highways. Over 13k in repairs are currently in place and there is still no resolution.
I have received at least three 19a recall notices for my vehicle. Each time I call the dealer to schedule an appointment they tell me they have to order the part, they will call when it is in and that they are only allowed to order a certain number of parts each week. Still waiting on that call back! yesterday when I called and was given the same "we'll order and call you", and "no I don't see anything previously ordered for you", the service clerk also told me that the 19a recall was not a big deal, not a safety issue and I didn't need to be concerned. Seriously? I don't know what else to do. I am afraid to drive this vehicle that I spent a ridiculous amount of money for. Someone should be holding stellantis accountable. Sarasota Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram, 7745 s. Tamiami trail, sarasota FL 34231 (941) 922-2400.
My 2023 Jeep 4xe shut down in the middle of the highway in arizona while traveling at 65 mph. The dashboard displayed an error message: “service charging system. ” shortly after, the vehicle experienced a total loss of power, and the screen instructed, “put in park to start vehicle,” with a flashing “d” on the gear indicator. This has happed before in a 2022 that we traded in because we didn't feel safe driving. We have a service appointment 8/7/24 at larry h miller Jeep in avondale az.
Vehicle has had multiple instances of lurching forward and/or not even moving when gas pedal is pressed. Several of these instances have occurred when coming to a stop or when trying to start from a stop. When the brake would be pressed the vehicle would jump forward. In one very memorable occurrence I was at a 4 way intersection coming to a stop and the vehicle lurched forward into the intersection almost hitting another vehicle. It also has issues when pressing the gas, you will give is gas and it won’t go anywhere and then all of a sudden lurch forward. We have several instances of a hard transmission shift where the vechile will “buck” and jar you into your seat. Vehicle has been to 3 dealerships, all state nothing is wrong, no codes were thrown.
Water pump fail.
We ordered in April 2022, a 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe sahara plug-in hybrid, arriving late may 2022. In mid-June 2024, when starting the Jeep, it went into "limp" or "safe" mode. The samsung ev battery was fully charged, indicating a 99% charge available, which translates to an approximate 24 mile range on the ev motor. The check engine light (cel) came on as well as a "charging system failure" message came on in the center of the message center. The Jeep dealership in temecula, CA, received the Jeep, which would only operate on the internal combustion engine, and even then at 50% of available power, with the a/c system non-operable. The internal combustion engine would not respond to throttle input, where it would not start (from engine off mode) more than a dozen times while en route to the Jeep dealership. It was unsafe being at the front of a long-line of cars when a light turned green and then applying the throttle, nothing happened, where we very nearly got rear-ended on multiple occasions. The dch temecula dealership who is servicing the Jeep advises the samsung ev battery had an internal failure and requires replacement. The samsung ev battery is on order or in transit/shipping, has not arrived. We have been without the Jeep approaching a month. In addition to our concern for this happening to others, we are really concerned about this being a recurring issue and problem.
There was a prior recall where if there was discoloring or charring of the battery terminal a new battery was suppose to be installed. I reported this and showed the damage, and they just cleaned the terminals and sent me down the road. Now that these are burning houses down I would like to get out of this lease, its almost up anyway.
E-torque battery issue. My e-torque battery was having issues for 20k miles that caused a “stored” code to appear saying the e-torque had a fault. I started bringing in the Wrangler at 35,500 miles still under bumper to bumper warranty but because it was a stored code there was no repair order issued. This continued until around 50k miles when the Jeep started shutting off at low speeds. The dealer took it in and Jeep corporate stated that because it was still a stored code they would not release the battery pack needed for the repair. The dealer fought the warranty department for 3 weeks holding on to my vehicle. They eventually returned the car to me un-repaired per Jeep corp instruction. The check engine light came on days after it was returned to me. No repair but documented at dealer. 12 days after the car was repaired it died again rolling to a stop light and then again in the same trip. The second time, it died in rush hour traffic, with a semi truck behind me. Thankfully I was traveling at about 20 miles an hour and the semi had several car lengths behind me because it shut off as though it was so dead it was sitting in my driveway. It did start back up when I placed it in park. I drove it to the dealer where they kept it for 2 more months fighting warranty to release the battery pack. I went through five Jeep cares case managers and had multiple “star cases” that were opened and closed without the dealership being made aware at times that they were closed. They finally approved the repair. I have had the vehicle returned to me and plan to sell it as soon as possible because I do not know when this next battery pack will fail.
05/03/2024: while driving my 2022 Jeep Wrangler sahara 4xe the vehicle unexpectedly had a complete loss of power resulting in my Jeep shutting down without warning. The warning light “service hybrid electrical system” illuminated after the I attempted to restart it. My Jeep would not restart or engage out of park. The vehicle was towed to the dealership where it remains in the same exact spot with no repair or identified problem. Fca/stellantis is aware as I have an open case with Jeep cares who really don’t seem to care. This complete loss of power could have resulted in a severe accident putting myself, passengers, and other drivers on the road at risk as there was no prior warning.
The detective reported that the 2022 Jeep Wrangler spontaneously caught on fire. The contact stated that after the owner parked the vehicle, approximately six hours later a fire occurred which started in the engine compartment of the vehicle. The fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the flames. During the incident the vehicle was destroyed. No injuries were reported. A police and fire report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was later tow away. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified by the contact. The contact was concern that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the NHTSA campaign number: 23v787000(electrical system) which did not include the diesel models. The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced that same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was unknown.
